If you listen to their cover of Gold (Kiiara), what she can't do live because the voices are almost all electronically produced, Mitch does just sitting in a chair with no enhancement.
Not too long after you recorded this, we were on a tour in Haarlem, the Netherlands and walked by the finish area for half marathon. There was music blaring and I heard Daft Punk, thinking, sure, it’s Europe. Then I realized it was this Pentatonix track!!!! My wife was unimpressed.
I still think this is possibly the best a cappella arrangement ever made. They won their first Grammy for it and the Grammys actually created a category for them. There are many live versions of this that sounds extremely similar so they are doing most of it with their voices, rather than production. They have a strict rule that they don't record anything in the studio that they can't produce live. There is one private performance of this in a hotel room without even mics, just recorded on someone's phone and they still sound incredible! If you like this, you should check out their original EDM track 'Love again'. The video has an alien Steampunk kind of vibe and it's amazing. Much under-rated (as are all their originals sadly!).
There are 7 Daft Punk songs included in this medley: Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder-Better-Faster-Stronger, Television Rules the Nation, and Around the World. Yes, AtW is in there, although only the title is sung by Kirstie (3 times, with the vocals panning from left to right) in the background during Avi's solo of Television Rules the Nation, and in the big final mashup.
Check out either the cell phone video of this live (completely off mic) or their live version from the Hollywood Bowl. It’ll give you a good idea of what is produced and what is just them. This obviously has reverb and other production qualities, but not as much as people tend to think.
They won their first Grammy for this. Has anyone told you they only had $400 and recorded this in a pantry closet in a kitchen! I love your reactions and your comments were spot on.
Check out Love Again. It’s an original by them with the EDM feel. Can’t Hold Us shows off their ability to rap. Dance of the Sugar Plum fairy won them their 2nd Grammy and is unique because it’s an instrumental song done by a group with no instruments 😊
Although it is not one of my favorite songs you should check out their cover of Kiiara’s Gold. It is a perfect example of how good they sound just them sitting in front of mic’s singing with no production. I’m not saying that there is never any tweaking done in their videos but as stated in a previous comment they tour constantly and they have a very loyal fan base so they are careful to make sure they can reproduce their music live to satisfy the Pentaholics. These guys are not just an a cappella group. They are very talented individually and together. The three main singers have known each other since high school and along with Kevin have been a group for 12 years so they are very in sinc.
Around the World is in there too, 7 songs in all. Their first Grammy in this, and it sounds almost exactly the same live (yes, they do the staccato section live too, it’s not edited). One of my faves
And that's why it's a Grammy Winner! Here's a little goofy check for this song. Watch it again and count how many times they blink. They close their eyes a few times but they don't blink!!!! It's crazy!
They did sample around the world. It was Kirstie saying "Around the world" during Avi's solo & the mashup at the end. I didn't catch it either until someone pointed it out to another reactor. But once you hear it you can't unhear it
The three main vocalists, Scott, Kirstin, and Mitch - have sung together since their teens (and have known each other for even longer). You can find a video of them in high school, billed as The Trio, doing Lady Gaga's "Telephone." They added Kevin as the beatboxer and Avi as the bass when they decided to try to do The Sing-Off. That skip effect goes back to their performance of Video Killed the Radio Star (by The Buggles) on The Sing-Off. You can find that video online, recorded 2 years before this one. Their precision and emotional intelligence are their hallmarks.
That vocal skipping was first demonstrated when they did 'Video Killed The Radio Star' on the Sing Off competition. Kevin is an amazing beatboxer - in their song 'Sing' he refers to himself as the human 808. I believe there were 7 Daft Punk songs involved. Try their original 'Love Again' for a real EDM feel!
Around the World was in there a bit. You'd be really impressed if you watch a live version, I think. They just recorded one in September at their Hollywood Bowl concert if that interests you. There is also one called "Private Performance" of just the five of them standing in a row in a random room with terrible acoustics and no microphones which is kind of interesting.
This Daft Punk Medley was made at Avi and Kevin apartment. The video was made in Avi and Kevin closet and the sounds were made in the Kitchen. The total cost of this production was only $400. They do this song live check it out also.
I hope that you check out their live versions of songs also so that you can see that they sound about the same live as on the official videos. Thanks for this reaction to this medley of 7 Daft Punk songs.
I *think* they made this just after they finally got a recording contract, but they still didn't have their own studio or anything. The budget on this one was $400, most of which went for makeup (presumably including the blue wig and contact lenses), one ring light, and professional editing. The audio was recorded in a closet (for the acoustics) and the video was recorded at their makeup artist's kitchen table. Kevin couldn't tolerate the contacts, hence his visor - judging by how red his eyes looked Avi must have been having trouble with the contacts, too. And this song presented NARAL with a problem - it obviously needed to be nominated for a Grammy, but in which category? The proper category didn't seem to exist, so NARAL decided to change one of the categories they already had to properly accomodate Pentatonix. "Best Arrangement Instrumental" was changed to "Best Arrangement Instrumental or A Cappella" and Pentatonix got a nomination in that category, so this song could win them their first Grammy, which it did.
Check out some of their Evolution videos. Favorites are Evolution of Music, Evolution of Michael Jackson, and Evolution of Rihanna, but they are all good. You asked at the end if any other group does similar things. There are other a cappella groups, but PTX is unique in many ways. Fun thing to watch is a marching band made up of several branches of the French military perform a Daft Punk medley based on PTX’s for a Bastille Day celebration not everyone watching ‘got it’.
Man, you are busy on here! Loved the reaction, here always for Pentatonix. Talking about hitting the notes - check out Gold. Kiara did it electronically, Mitch does it naturally. Peace from Ohio …
They have so many great upgraded covers and great originals. You can't go wrong choosing one. I love their version of Blinding Lights, Come Along - their collaboration with Todrick Hall Wizard of AHHS, and SuperFruit's collaboration Black and White with Todrick Hall and Kirstie. Then if you get into Superfruit, you really need to hear their collaboration on Rise and many, many others.
Either for a reaction video or at least for your own enjoyment, you should find them doing this live at the Hollywood Bowl recently. None of the really wild stuff is editing (though of course, yes it's been produced for balance etc somewhat) but in my experience the only way to convince your brain of that is to see them do it live.
"Around the World" is in there. Listen to Kirstin while Avi is singing "Television" (and in the big breakdown at the end). Are you re-uploading old videos from another channel to jump-start this one? I have a strong deja vu from a couple of the Pentatonix videos you've posted in a relatively short period of time, and I am absolutely positive that I have encountered your name before. Since my footprint on RUclips is pretty narrow, that means Pentatonix, Home Free, Peter Hollens, or Voctave. Am I nuts? (Perhaps we might leave that unexplored for now...)
Subbed for more PTX reactions! I am loving your take on their stuff like the musical side of everything and I think it's awesome. If you liked this one and want to hear something similar but one of their Originals - go check out 'Love Again', it will blow your mind!
Here is a link to a concert last year where they did this song, ruclips.net/video/a8PZ7_KMGM4/видео.html Here is a private performance, not even a single mic. It is a fan-cam recorded on a cell phone, so the audio is not great, but you can hear enough ruclips.net/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/видео.html I know they did some post production, but it's not as much as one might think.
These guys don't record anything they can't reproduce live. That's the standard they have set for themselves and they never fail to do it just as good live as in studio...minus the studio enhancements like the reverb, compression, and noise gates.
I think there were like 7 daft punk songs in there....could be wrong, I'll look it up: Technologic, one more time, get lucky, Digital Love, Harder better faster stronger, Television Rules the Nation, and Around the World!...7 songs
With a few exceptions (ie 90s medley, which was a style choice) the amount of production in any of their work is minimal. Pentatonix have said many times they only want to do arrangements that they can reproduce LIVE. So 99% of their music is instrument free and production lite. They certainly don’t need it, they are all so talented and always manage to blend their voices insanely well. ❤
If you react to PTX on The Sing Off, you will see them skip on live TV. If you react please do all of them. Every reactor who has done The Sing Off has not been disappointed. Ivthink it was in Video Killed The Radio Star
Pentatonix never does anything they can't perform live, though obviously the visuals are different in live performances (the only song this actually harms is their -cover- upgrade of "Imagine," where they can't do the cards in live performances). There's a live performance of them singing "Daft Punk Medley" off-mic., recorded on someone's cell phone but in a very quiet environment so you can actually hear them properly: ruclips.net/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/видео.html Try listening to that and then tell us how much of this was manipulation in the editing.
new subsriber here. Love your reactions! They recorded this in Avi's closet for $400 They have done this live with no production. Its crazy! You should check it out. You should checkout Bohemian Rhapsody, it's so amazing!! You h
The skipping is done LIVE. No editing on that
If you listen to their cover of Gold (Kiiara), what she can't do live because the voices are almost all electronically produced, Mitch does just sitting in a chair with no enhancement.

It’s been produced to a point, but they reproduce this live so incredibly that it’s amazing how little they had to do in post!
How'd they do the "skip?" With their voices! 🤣
On their BOHEMIAN RAPSODY, Mitch does electric guitar and Kevin does crashing cymbals!
They did this in their apartment after losing their recording contract. They've been amazing from day 1. All with their voices and beatboxing .
Check out Love Again. It’s an original by them with the EDM feel. Can’t Hold Us shows off their ability to rap. Dance of the Sugar Plum fairy won them their 2nd Grammy and is unique because it’s an instrumental song done by a group with no instruments 😊
Another EDM song they did was Love Again. It's an original and it WOW'd me when I first heard it!!! Definitely worth checking out!
Very well done indeed. 1st of 3 Grammy's for this arrangement. Thanks for your reactions. All are enjoyable.
Back to back PTX……THANK YOU!
Around the world is in there - when Avi (the bass) has his solo and again at the end. You just need to listen for it.
I’m so excited for you to hear them do this live. There is a recent video of it from their appearance at the Hollywood Bowl. Watch it! 😊
check out their 2016 Popspring performance 3 originals and the Evolution of Michael Jackson. Then you will understand how little production there is.
You will enjoy live of this song without mikes, a kind of a private performance recording. They do it all without anything but their voices in a room.
Although it is not one of my favorite songs you should check out their cover of Kiiara’s Gold. It is a perfect example of how good they sound just them sitting in front of mic’s singing with no production. The panning on her part behind 'Television' was a GENIUS touch!
Please react to the Making of their album “ Evergreen” behind the scenes of how they come up with their arrangements. Excellent!!!!
Listen to the Hollywood Bowl version of this one it'll show you just how good they really are.
Best Pentatonix Medley, for sure!
The three main vocalists, Scott, Kirstin, and Mitch - have sung together since their teens (and have known each other for even longer). They recorded this in a closet and filmed it in the apartment kitchen shared by Avi and Kevin for $400. They won their 1st Grammy for it!
Winning a Grammy for $400 plus editing/production will probably always be one of the most impressive things I will ever hear.
Grammy number one (of three)
That vocal skipping was first demonstrated when they did 'Video Killed The Radio Star' on the Sing Off competition. You don't get tighter, vocally, than this...

There actually is a little nod to "Around the World" in the bass/beatbox breakdown, Kirstin sings that little easter egg under their bit
After hearing you please react to their original love again. You will be floored
You need to check out one of their latest live performances of this…it’s amazing 😮💨
Can’t wait for you to fall down this rabbit hole with us
They actually recorded and filmed this video from one of their apartments, when they were still just starting.
There are live versions that are just as amazing! 😅
They do this live too! This was really early on and their first Grammy.
You want to completely blow your mind? Here's them doing this song live, no production, not even mics
ruclips.net/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/видео.html
It is fun watching this live.
they filmed it in one of their apartment,

Never later! Always on time!
‘Studio” = Apartment closet.

= Grammy
Man, you are busy on here! Loved the reaction, here always for Pentatonix. Talking about hitting the notes - check out Gold. Kiara did it electronically, Mitch does it naturally. Peace from Ohio …
Are you a doubter...check out their more recent "90's Dance Medley".
Subbed, love your comments on Pentatonix.
There's a video of them doing this live. They are amazing!
Love the reaction and analysis. They actually had Around the World in their 90's Dance Medley.
I think you're thinking of 'Around the World' from ATC.
@@jerolddavis Touche. My ignorance was on full display. I appreciate the correction.

Pentatonix have lots of wonderful original songs too! Try Love Again, Coffee In Bed, Can't Sleep Love, Be My Eyes, Sing, A Little Space, and more.
There is a live version on RUclips in a room no mics and sounds great.
Check out their live version!!!
Subscribed for more PTX! You should check out some of their originals! Happy Now, Coffee in Bed, etc. You can’t go wrong with any of them, though ❤

They have a video of a live private performance of this song and they sound exactly the same
I’d love to see you check out Evolution of Beyoncé, even if you’re not a Beyoncé fan their video is incredible. Kevin is amazing with the beatboxing

They shot this video in Avi and Kevin's apartment. It cost them $400.00 and they won their first Grammy for it.

Yep they do it live lol.
They recorded this in their kitchen and closet for $400... their first Grammy!
I saw them do this live, so not really edited. It sounded the same!
PTX🔥❤️🙌
The glitch is in the score. They do it live.
If you react to PTX on The Sing Off, you will see them skip on live TV. If you react please do all of them. Every reactor who has done The Sing Off has not been disappointed. Ivthink it was in Video Killed The Radio Star
No, dude, NO post production tricks in there, they do it exactly like this LIVE
There were 8 different Daft Punk songs in the medley.
All them...
I love this, but your not the only one late to this one.
Michael Jackson medley is very cool. I think you’ll enjoy that
Check them out live! Better if not amazing ❤❤❤❤😂😂
