I saw FIREBRAND last night in the cinema and my jaw was on the FLOOR - he was so damn good as HVIII. This man has had an illustrious career, with some of his best work in the latter half but THIS performance ? For me, the BEST of his career. Hands down. He is stunning in firebrand, horrifying, complex, multi layered - just as the real Henry was (Tudor historian, here!) ❤
You say he had wounds that hadn't healed in _years?_ Things like that make me glad _I_ don't live back then. Even the wealthiest were not really very well off.
My favourite of Jude's roles is still his performance as Jerome in Gattaca - but goodness he's inhabited a lot of vastly different characters exceptionally well in his career.
I was a location manager on gattaca and everyone cast ,crew producer s catering etc... was mesmerized when Jude was doing a scene said that guy's going to be something going to be huge 😊😻
Jude got my attention and I became a fan after his role a contract killer in "The Road to Perdition". Of course, you had some heavy weights there too: Tom Hanks, Paul Newman & Daniel Craig.
I mean, he was okay! Just sort of playing a handsome rich playboy, only real challenge I guess was the American accent but, not as if it was very challenging of a role I’d think. I’d actually go more with Matt Damon in that movie, just for the sheer volume of acting required. I actually prefer that movie to the recent show that came out, I like the new show but felt it was a little unnecessary at times, and also of course the character was played completely differently by that dark haired guy, wayyyy more creepy
@@DroolRockworm I have to disagree. Sure, Damon has to do more of the lifting, but Law displays the whole gamut callousness, vulnerability, irritation, anger, delight so effortlessly, sometimes all within the same scene, all so naturally. He radiates off the screen.
One of our greatest living actors. Damon is good, but isn't in Jude's orbit in terms of talent.. After Dickie was killed, it was like all the light and energy went out of the film. He did so much more than play the rich playboy with an accent. Who can forget the chilling scene when Tom tries to get in his bath--the look of absolute recoil on his face, or when he catches Tom trying in his clothes--the visceral disgust. Or when the pregnant girl he slept with drowns--his guilt and grief, but then he kind of shuts it off. One of the best performances ever.
This was filmed at Haddon Hall Bakewell Derbyshire. I saw film trailers in the car park ( Hall closed during filming of course) it was very impressive site .This is on my way to Bakewell. Look forward to watching the film. 😊
I was confused when he called Catherine "his latest wife" because I thought Catalina de Aragón was his first wife (so the one Henry broke up with the Church to divorce). Went to check and there were two other Catherines later on lol, seems he liked the name more than the women.
He was king... who had personal physicians constantly trying to treat them. They DID get infected.. had episodes of sepsis and fevers etc (they're basically what killed him). There's documentation of it you can read about here: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2789029/
That's the point, they were infected, bvut possibly kept from completely rotting off by the way that medieval doctors applied leeches and maggots. One sucked the blood, the second ate decaying flesh. Still, accounts that I have read are pretty clear that no one offered an honest opinion that the king, in fact, stank to high heaven. Imagine having to be one of his wives, bedding that humongous lump of rotten flesh.
They did, often and recurrent. He seemingly was brought back from the brink several times by draining the wounds but eventually it did kill him, that and other ailments.
I thought ‘Wolf Hall’ on PBS was an excellent production, although not as sexy as ‘The Tudors’. I’m excited that PBS is going to be broadcasting ‘The Mirror and the Light’, which is in production now and picks up where ‘Wolf Hall’ left off in continuing the story of Henry VIII, his Court and specifically, Thomas Cromwell.
You will need to go back further than that to the best depiction of King Henry VIII. The best depiction of King Henry VIII is by Keith Mitchell in the early 1970's.
Mad director mad actor, the wardrobe department must have hated him as you can't just run those clothes in a machine or dry cleaners. So they'd have to work in the stink too.
Incredible actors, costumes, cinematography.. I just really don’t understand the need to change everything from both historical record and even the book they supposedly adopted.. Parr actually outsmarted everyone in real history. Why the need to completely change her real history (much more badass) and make her into something that would go against her beliefs?
Making most cursed most loved 😅😅what an actor...he was supposed to be prop...title to dialogues to all was around her....yet he manages ro after months still keep theatres on fire🎉
Jude Law's next project should be the biography of Phil Collins as a member of Genesis maybe start at the point where Monsieur Garbriel departs and Phil is left to be front man .... with the right director and script, this could make a few bob ...
I’m trying to imagine what his rambling dialogue would be like, and what the director’s face would look like when Trump as Henry goes off script and starts complaining about windmills, or about how unfairly he's being treated, or begins making creepy remarks about his own daughters.
How did the man stay alive with an infested wound for all that time back in those days?? 😮 Maybe his personal doctor cleaned it every day, does anyone know?
They cauterised the ulcers with red hot irons (iron sticks heated in fires) when the ulcers oozed too much pus. Maybe that's why the film gets its title from!
It’s not sad that it was a girl. The lack of a thriving male heir put Elizabeth on the throne and brought about the golden years. Of course, I don’t expect most Americans to understand.

Oh Jude Law! So eternally handsome
I was just thinking the same! He has aged like fine wine!
Well said
You say he had wounds that hadn't healed in _years?_ Things like that make me glad _I_ don't live back then. Even the wealthiest were not really very well off.
People still exist, in 2024, with venous leg wounds of greater than 10 years in every country of the world across all socioeconomic groups.

Some people look better when they age. Jude is one of them.
It’s so weird to see Jude without the Dumbledore beard again it’s like they’re two different people 😅 Love him, so kind and ridiculously talented!
When did he play Dumbledore?
@@margo3367 In the Fantastic Beasts movies!
I love Period movies and Jude Law is one of the better actors in these types👌🏽💙
Make him win an Oscar please, for once. Such an underrated talent!
Jude got my attention and I became a fan after his role a contract killer in "The Road to Perdition". Of course, you had some heavy weights there too: Tom Hanks, Paul Newman & Daniel Craig.
This clip of Jule Law performing so marvelously has me NEEDING to see this film!
Jude Law in Ripley is one of the best movie acting performances of all time.

Very good interview!!
He’s so handsome. I can’t believe that’s him as King Henry! Wow!
Sounds like he put the privy in Privy Chamber!
I was confused when he called Catherine "his latest wife" because I thought Catalina de Aragón was his first wife (so the one Henry broke up with the Church to divorce). Went to check and there were two other Catherines later on lol, seems he liked the name more than the women.
He was on a Parr with her. Excuse me…
Wives: 3 Katherine's, 2 Annes, and 1 Jane. All popular names at the time. Also Mary and Elizabeth were very popular.
Dang. Jude is a good actor
Jude Law despite the beautiful face played great characters with depth. He's British, and most Brit actors are theater-trained, and smart.
Wow! What an incredible transformation into King Henry VIII !! Magnificent makeup job there.
Henry the Viii I am I am ! So he was, and he played the part well . Trump is a stinky version of Henry.
How in the hell did the open sores he had for ten years not get infected, especially in those days.
He was king... who had personal physicians constantly trying to treat them. They DID get infected.. had episodes of sepsis and fevers etc (they're basically what killed him). There's documentation of it you can read about here: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2789029/

They were infected for years, oozing pus, and that's why the legs stank so bad the stench wafted three rooms away.
Evie and Colbert greatest Duo❤❤❤
I watched it last night. Jude was great in it.
Jude Law as Henry looks like what Tom Green looks like now.
Yes, I just found out.
Jude is such an amazing actor. He has such range and I’m looking forward to seeing his newest movie.
I'm sure this is a good movie BUT if you want the best depiction of Henry the Eighth then you need to watch the series Tudors!
Nah, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is too sexy in that one. 😄
So without even seeing the Jude Law version you say this? Strange.
The tudors was fun and sexy, but it was so not based on correct history!
You will need to go back further than that to the best depiction of King Henry VIII. The best depiction of King Henry VIII is by Keith Mitchell in the early 1970's.
Good to see Jude Law. Always liked him.))
Beautiful suit.
He's on a very small list of "men that I would". 👍
Mad director mad actor, the wardrobe department must have hated him as you can't just run those clothes in a machine or dry cleaners. So they'd have to work in the stink too.
Love Judd Law!!😊
Jude Law 2 of 3

Jude Law Was Willing To Smell Terrible To Nail His Henry VIII Character In "Firebrand"
🤢Pus, blood & fecal matter… 🫣on the pulse points 😬😅
Well, if he doesn't look just like James Spader in this clip!!
Just think henry's queen had to conceive her baby while he had those sores on his legs. Forget the smell, she had to rub up against him.
Trump could just play himself for Henry VIII.
No way; Henry was actually quite smart and very talented in many ways. Just the fat part would work for Trump.
@@Deanrileyfat, smelly, no one wanting to be around him except for the wealth and status he could provide them

JanPlowman Seagrave
He’s not near as complex as HViII was
fucking handsom man
Sorry but I i loved him in the Holiday.
The viewing audience can not smell it so why should his cast members

Why does he remind me of Sting?
Very similar face shape and hairline
What's the name for being straight, with the only exception being Jude Law?
Choosy.
So trump basically could be Henry Vlll physically anyway.
Happy Father's Day

We want ABBA
That’s taking method acting a bit too far.

Great actor. Feel bad the ppl had to smell that awful smell!
As one of the 8 yep it was quite unpleasant I remember mostly vomit smelling sour
It does "sound familiar."
