Ok, so this is a massive 25 minute practice session. Here I do the MJ song first, completing the entire melody live in front of you , then completing the chorus to the Wilco song. See if you can pause the video and try and figure out the melodies before you watch me figure them out. Backing tracks included with me playing the melodies completely and room for you to do it yourself. Hope You Enjoy!

Isn't it funny how weird people get when trying to sing/hum a bit just as an exercise? NOBODY expects one to sound like Michael Jackson and so no one cares what the "quality" of the singing is like. It is just a demonstration of the method and sounded great for what it is designed to do. Great video.

Thank you Stich, for all that you do! You’re one of the few Internet guitar instructors that have been able to help me progress. Ironically I also watch Sean Daniels. You’re both quirky and unique in your teaching styles. I found both of you individually and then figured out that you know each other. There are literally thousands of online guitar teachers and two of my very favorites know each other!?!

You lie about not being able to sing. I can hear that you have really good pitch and timber to your voice. Not only that that, you’re hitting those high notes!

I love this! I played piano for a few years, but I've been into guitar because of it's portability and beauty. I've always been STUMPED about how people play chords and melodies at the same time coming from a pianist brain. This makes complete sense now! Thank you so much!

Along time ago an instructor showed me a fun fact about ear “training”. He played a note and had me sing that note . I was to keep singing that note, but when he moved a semitone higher or lower, my voice would “follow” my ear and it was near impossible to stay on the original note. This is a confidence building exercise for your ear. Thanks for posting

But this is if you want it to have it vocal less and if you use the vocal melody use them as riffs.

I am always amazed how you can explain something I've asked other "How & Why?" so many times and gotten some long winded explanation that lost me. I watch your stuff and I am going. " Why the hell didn't anyone else ever say it this way?" Thanks again!!

I can play any melody on flute but I can't do it on the guitar. Why

Hi Stich, this is a great lesson. You show how to find notes by ear! I think the technology of guitar tuners certainly changed things. I started playing guitar in 1965 where we used a tuning fork to tune a string then tune the rest to each other, then we would put a record on once again learning by ear. I tell students to spend time with tech but also spent time training your ear, thanks for all your great lessons…

STITCH! I haven't had the time to take a moment and thank you for all of the work you've done and do for the guitar playing community. For real I was told by someone about 3 years ago " the song sucks and I don't want to play it."

Thank you for taking the time to "spell it out" for us. I've noodled around a bit with playing the singing melodies to songs but had no road map to help guide me along the way. This lesson just introduced a very logical way to approach this facet.

I used this video and your chord tone video to REALLY take a big step forward in my playing. It happens glacially, but then BAM! Thanks again, as always.

Love your Dave Matthews impersonation lol! Thanks Stich, you're not boring at all! This is interesting stuff, and needed, if a person wants to learn melodies.

Mr Stich, in my humble opinion, you are the best guitar teacher on RUclips.
