The magic about this guy is whenever i want to learn something to improve, he always comes up with the right topic at the right time 😭😭..thank you very much sir
so true!!!
He has done ssssooo much for the online guitar community....and it's basically ALL available FOR FREE.
What a guy?
I've been doing this for a long time without realizing the benefits. When I don't know what to play or if I'm just noodling on front of the TV I'll do this without thinking. Thanks for the lesson. I've learned a huge amount of things from your videos.
Thanks Justin! This is magic. I don't think "The Ventures" back in the 60s and 70s ever sang a song. They made a whole career of exactly this melody playing as I'm sure you know. Cheers!
Even though I finished your beginners course a few years ago, you keep adding awesome content that is so helpful to even intermediate players. Thank you!
Great video! This is the exact process I've been using to learn to sing more difficult songs, by tabbing them out on guitar first. Then I can play through the tab as a quick reference, rather than searching through the audio file for the right part, which tightens up my feedback loop for learning to sing it.
Wonderful lesson and just what I was needing to stay motivated! Thank you, Justin!
That House of the rising sun at the beginning was such a banger. Bless you Justin.
the thing I struggle most with. so this year I want to learn this! thank you Justin, you are the best!
I found out decades ago that I could figure out the melody better in context of playing chords (open usually). Why? I don't know for sure, but maybe because the melody contained notes from the underlying chord, reducing in effect the "search space."
Great stuff. I m encouraged to practise scales again.
at 59sh I began to play banjo, playing melody as my aging fisherman/ shearers hands are so slow at learning to get chords .
As i progress i often guess the chords by the melody .
So thankful for singing in school and now church.
Fantastic lesson. Just what I needed to take my playing to the next level. Thank you Justin 👍
Very timely, I was actually doing this today. Listening to the second solo part of Wish you Were Here and trying to learn it by ear. I managed to do it. I surprised myself
Awesome Lesson! Thank you!
Fantastic as always Justin. Thank you for sharing all these lessons with us.
Take care of yourself and your family and stay safe.
From Charlie in the States.
Pumped for this one!
Figuring out song melodies on guitar is what I do most on guitar. Steve Winwood's Can't Find My Way Home is one of the first full songs that I figured out. I am still building on the little nuances of the vocals on electric and acoustic guitar. Thanks for this video! I always thought my efforts were not what real guitarists did.
Sincere thanks. I keep coming back for more!
Great, new for me, to practice and improve all round. Can't believe I've not done this before....and I'm 65!!!! Thanks, loved it....
brilliant lesson, thanks once again Justin
Really useful lesson and a real eye opener!
Cheers Justin👍
loved it!!!!
This is just what I needed! Thanks!
Its honest people in different industries like Justin who makes life on earth interesting and hopeful whenever I read bad and hopeless activities humans do here. Bless you and your loved ones Justin! you set a role model!
Great stuff!
Thank you Justin for this lesson . It was the missing part in my starting for learning to play the melody of the song . I am a 75j old beginner player from Belgium . And as you as said it is very defucult to find tabs for a song on the internet. So like you said I will start to fond the notes in a open position. Dank u wel Justin !
You are the best Justin. Thank you so much
Thank you Justin, I appreciate you.
Absolutely necessary one for many guitar players who may not be good with vocals 👌❤️💐
So useful ! Flawless
Love the lesson. And your t-shirt.
Marvelous video❤
That's an important message on your shirt, thank you. Thank you for your great tutorials.
hi. justin, its a lengthy but very clear n useful explanation. thanks n best wishes..
Thanks Justin 👍👍👍👌
A good idea. Thank you. 👋
Thank you...
Awesome lesson! This is when a looper pedal would come in handy…
Cool bro
Love that rendition of House Of The Rising Sun
This is the only way I play guitar now. I just could not master chords and strumming, and I haven't mastered playing melodies one note at a time, but I am so much better at that than anything else on guitar. I learn them off RUclips, one phrase at a time. It is fun and interesting, especially figuring out the easiest finger movements to hit the right notes, or moving it around on the fret board.
Why I find it becomes difficult to use key even?
Love the polite 'rhythmic melody' a euphemism for ' no melody'
A great idea for my new looper pedal :-) i don't have enough time in the day
That acoustic sounds so beautiful
Thanks!
I haven’t even finished watching and I know this is a great lesson
It's great ear training to learn the intervals of a melody you 'thought' you already know. (I know that melody. I can play it. Easy. Oh, wait, that's not right. Hmm.) Wish I had done it a long long time ago.
Νice my friend! 💯👌👍💯
🎸🤘🎸🤘💪😉
Brilliant, and no posing or posturing like the home of the brave / land of the free
Hi Justin ,Another interesting video, I will give this a go. At present I play simple melodies from top line fake books. first four frets or frets 8 to 12 . I can play hundreds of songs this way. but never actually learning the songs by memory. My idea was that if i can do this with ease, using embellishments i will make the simple melody sound good and interesting. I am now not sure if this is possible .I would really appreciate your thoughts on my "method" Cheers Mike
This could be just what the doctor ordered .. looking forward to checking this out ..
Cheers Justin ...
T 🎸 🇮🇪 😎
yeah! hope it is :) cheers!
@@justinguitar That was a very video ... very enjoyable .. very interesting & very educational ... thanks again .. hope you have very weekend :)
Oh no, what now - we need to LISTEN? HERESY 🤣
great lesson :)
Hi Justin, would you be able to prepare some lessons on how to make arrangements for guitar where you combine the melody and rhythm on one guitar?
For that, it would really help if you tackle the lessons of grade 7 www.justinguitar.com/classes/advanced-guitar-course-grade-seven. These cover some concepts that are crucial foundations to fluently think of chords and melodies at once. If that is beyond you at this time, it will be harder but you will at least know the basics of how scales and chords work. | LievenDV | JustinGuitar Official Assistant
I do love trying to find melodies on guitar and I the first song I tried to learn was I Do I Do I Do by ABBA.
Took me a while but got there. Another good ABBA song is Fernando. They’re mostly on the g b and high e strings. In the open position.
Thanks for the lesson. I did work out Molly’s Lips,by Nirvana on my own 😁 The chords not melody.
Mamma Mia is a good one to try btw
Great lesson Justin...btw where did you get that cap from ?...Love it
Very interested in this, would love to be able to play anything just by picking it up,
Struggling with Fingerpicking at the moment, this could help
Did u check this out? It might help u! www.justinguitar.com/guitar-lessons/rolling-chords-to-spice-up-your-fingerstyle-bg-1603
@@justinguitar good man , I'll check this out, 👌
Love your tee shirt. Great lesson, hard for a tone deaf person.
Great guitar tuition justin, what guitar are you playing buddy?
So generous to use the word melody for one note.
I call it rhythmic poetry
House of the rising sun is the first (and only) song that falls out of my fingers every time I pick up my guitar.
I had plans today but now I'm going to have to play guitar all day instead 😀
Wow, that intro. I would buy a cut of that song from you.
love your lessons very much I'm wondering to ask is it possible to add Chinese on your app?
I cant believe after all these years I am still in grade 3!
Absolutely love this lesson!! Thank you for all your help. I was really hoping you’d touch on Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton. You did inspire me to challenge myself to figure it out today.
This might help! It's an older lesson but we explore its key! www.justinguitar.com/songs/eric-clapton-wonderful-tonight-chords-tabs-guitar-lesson-bs-906
Thank you Justin. I’m working are on that one. It’s easy to play but challenging to play the Melody.
@@shauntackett4497 if you want to play it try out the fingerstyle version. i think the channel was named fingerstyle club or some like that its a lil challenging at first but sounds beautiful.
Hi can you show us how you strum like that please for 3 little birds. Or is there a lesson some where. Many thanks
Cool video, can you do On Every Street by Dire Straits some day?
Johnny Flynn's cover of Amsterdam from the film Stardust (2020). I would love a tutorial.
Really struggling with this lesson. Got the chords and strumming down to a tee but can't seem to get my head around this.
Sneaky Justin trying to get us into transcribing😁
Hey Justin , I’m tryna to learn chord but it’s very hard for me and I don’t see any improvement in my chords but when I get into scales , it’s way more easier and i get better quickly, do u suggest me to focus and scales rn and come back to chord later or anything else? Ty
insane lesson thank u
I think that Chet Atkins said when in doubt, play the melody when improvising.
U make it look so easy🤦♂️
Currently Tring this now with , linkin park NUMB,
An It works, with a little time I reckon I could Fingerpick my own version of this 👊
Happy trails dude! Have fun :)
thank you for the video, is there a tutorial on you channel about how to adapt the melody's tonality to fit your voice? say when it is too high or too low. (I am a beginner) I assume some people use a capo for that, which can also help to manage to reach some more complex chords (with small hands), yet I don't know yet a lot about capo and arrangements.
There are a few lessons on capo's you can check: www.justinguitar.com/advanced_search?q=capo There is one specifically about matching your voice | LievenDV | JustinGuitar Official Assistant
@@justinguitar thank you! Will check it out
I would just find tabs thats been transcribed into fingerstyle. My guitar sings😀. Great lesson on fingerstyle on Justin's website if anyone interested
What about thank you by Chris Cornell, I cant sing so I want to sing with the guitar over the loop play
how to record this?
Are the words of the song following the melody..?
I've always had trouble playing the entire lyrics on guitar.
great lesson, just a question . is it better to find the melody on on strings first or chords?? for example for hallelujah. the melody on a string is G to A which is moving up one tone but the chords are C to Am which is down tow tones, is kinda confusing for me
The exact melody will be on single notes while the chords of the key use several notes of that key at once. That doesn't mean you can only play notes of the chord you can play over. by default, the notes of the key will always work over the chord but some will work better than others. If you want to know how that works: check out this lesson about diatonic chords: www.justinguitar.com/guitar-lessons/chords-in-a-key-diatonic-triads-mt-421
@@justinguitar thanks
Alr, I don't know if I'll get this😭
Will keep trying tho😭
Are you sure that this lesson is also located on the web site? I tried looking through all the Beginner Grade 3 lessons, and didn't see any with a matching name "No Singer - Try a Melody Duet". It's probably under another name, but I can't find it. Any clues? What module number is it in?
Hi - it is grade 3 Module 16: www.justinguitar.com/guitar-lessons/how-to-play-a-melody-on-guitar-bg-1605

Man that guitar sounds good! Is that a Froggy Bottom?

Ok so a question, the few notes that are played outside of the chord, how am i supposed to know if I’m allowed to play them or not? Is it based on the major scale or the key? How do i know? Because before this video i thought you’re only allowed to play notes that are just in the chords, at least for a beginner
Please someone answer :)
There are two fundamentals to use as a guide here. [1] If it sounds good it is god. [2] Use the scale of the key. If the chord progression is in the key of C major, use notes from the C major scale.
Cheers 😊

@@justinguitar thank you so much and thanks for your amazing videos :)
You know, Justin... after a few more tries, you might just get this whole video creation thing down.
Ha ha.... Just kidding of course... Your vids feel so natural and (as such) are so easy to follow, regardless of the viewer's skill level. Love your work!
Fingers crossed! :) haha! Thank you - have a great weekend!
The reverse seems so much harder. The rhythm chords he played at the beginning seems impossible to figure out by ear vs the melody
thats too hard
Can you teach us the vocal melody for Rap God by Eminem.
M looking for guitar ..plz name this guitar!
My teacher made me play all the major scales and we did melodies and rhythm before the chords
😅
@@justinguitar yeah but that was a long time ago. Thanks for responding!
does anyone have an idea what kind of guitar he's playing?
It's a Froggy Bottom custom guitar. More info on Justin's guitars here: www.justinguitar.com/guitar-lessons/justin-s-guitars-list-and-info-gg-001| LievenDV | JustinGuitar Official Assistant
Now be Chet Atkins and play both at the same time. guy was nuts
Can't you can sing or play a melody in any key. My go to is the key of C because it has no sharps or flats. Work it out in C then change to the right key later if you want.
justin im sorry this is a great lesson but last module the transcribing lesson was very simple power chord songs then you went to this?!?! it doesnt seem to fit in the order of things. i cannot do it at all and im way beyond beginner level player. i mean maybe you shouldve talked us through how do it with some cheesy songs like london bridges or something. i'm not Esteban i cant figure out rising sun melody for the life of me......im not sure but it seems like intervals are more important than specific notes? anyhow i cant post for this video on the website for some reason so i came here
Gospel.
I find it difficult to hear the melody in my head, and even when I do, as soon as I hit the note on the guitar it ruins the melody in my head.
One thing that can happen is misheard or mis-remembered melodies. Often enough, you will find that your recollection of a melody is not spot-on when going back to the original.
Am lost i give up, how did he even identify the melodies 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
