Band-Maid has no genre, cause they are a genre.
No argument here. It's a pretty kick-ass genre too! 🤘🤘
It's a weird kind of flex, because right now, I can't see somebody saying, "This part reminds me of Band-Maid." But in the future, I can totally see someone - after hearing multiple songs from a band - saying "This artist reminds me of B-M," because the a artist is really good but all over the place doing everything. And this reminds me that we should all not judge an artist by their "hit" cuz that's often the least interesting thing they ever did.
They're a previously unreachable level of excellence.
Tool is the same, each album and song are different. And nobody ever say that band sounds like Tool
They are great yes, Tool is the last Rock band to be number 1 in the world.
I don't really care what box people try to put them in, it is ever changing. They don't play to a genre. They play what makes them feel good and what sounds right to them.
I would put BAND-MAID in a lovely quilted box to protect Miku's shins :)

Very true. I guess I like to bring up genres for the purpose on "analysis", but my favorite genre is good music, and Band Maid definitely fits that description! 🤘🤘
Being privileged enough to be in a Band Maid audience and obeying the commands of the Ice Queen Saiki is an adrenaline rush and a dopamine dump 😃 🤘🏽

@@oglschmitt Yes, I saw them in Charlotte, NC @ the Underground, a little 700 capacity venue. Three feet from the stage. One of the best concert experiences ever.
You’re right about Saiki. I’m a big fan of Kanami, so I was in front of her. But I left the show pretty overwhelmed by Saiki’s charisma and “star power”
When, we saw Tool Jan 21st of this year in Charlotte
"Play" was 21st of 23songs of this concert. And just after this song, they started "Domination". So last scene of PLAY is first scene of DOMINATION.
Wow. That's late in the set. I never would have guessed, they still had so much energy! The Play/Domination sounds killer though! 🤘🤘
The orchestra analogy is an excellent description of how their songs are composed. Honestly, they’ve stepped up the complexity since both this and Domination was written.
Warning or Shambles are relentless. You might try out the double video of Manners and Blackhole. Manners is lower tempo that won’t knock you on your butt, it’ll get you warmed up for the absolute insanity of Blackhole.
Interestingly, I saw the double video for Manners/Blackhole while I was scrolling through RUclips and almost chose it as a reaction. Danny and I's time was limited so we went with "Play" since I remember some people requesting it. Your description sounds pretty awesome; going to have to check it out! I like to say Band-Maid songs _feel_ familiar but _sound_ new. Thanks for the reaction!
That was a really good way to put it. They're not like when you get an album and go, "This is amazing!" and then you get the next album and go, "Same exact thing but not as good." Band-Maid's "problem" is the reverse, where they yank the listener out of that discovery "I love them" comfort zone and challenge you to keep up.

Beautiful "orchestrated" composition, catchy hooks, melodic harmonies, killer solos, an ensemble cast of superstar musicians performing their hearts out and enchanting the entire audience into participatory chants. To think that this song was originally composed by Kanami as an instrumental. We're blessed that Saiki loved the song and asked Miku to add lyrics so she could join in on the fun.

I saw something about their 10 year anniversary! For some reason it just seems crazy that they've been around that long. It shouldn't. You don't get as good as Band-Maid without putting some time and mileage in. And they certainly don't look like grizzled veterans! 🤣 Were they this good when they first came out? Have they changed their sound any? 🤘🤘🤘
@@oglschmitt They are extremely hard working and have honed their talents and performance through a lot of touring and in the earlier days this included some pretty dingy clubs, so they have certainly paid their dues and it does show, initially songs were written for them but the Maids infused these tunes with their own "Maidness" 😁 Their first big release that saved the band from the corporate chopping block was Thrill. Great tune written for them that they own Kanami (lead guitar), MISA (bass), Akane (drums) immediately show their talents Saiki (lead vocals) shows what a powerhouse she is to become, Miku (vocals and rhythm guitar) shines and interestingly in the clip she just holds the guitar because at that stage she didn't know how to play, check it out it's great rock, hope that helped, cheers 👍🍻

They have been adding subtitles to their older videos as they can. Hopefully they will get to this one soon. I long for the days when we could submit subtitles. Many of us Maidiacs would gladly translate and submit them for the Ladies.
I do believe that emotion transcends language, but it would be nice to see subtitles videos so that I can appreciate the band's lyrical content. It's cool that fans, Maidiacs (that's awesome!) could submit subtitles. Another great example of the passion of the fan base. 🤘🤘

Very true. They do a great job picking from every genre, combining that with their own unique ideas, and producing a distinctly unique tapestry of sound. 🤘🤘
Lead guitar, Kanami is the main composer. She started on piano as a child. She certainly was exposed to classical music compositional ideas.
It is interesting how many rockers started out on piano. James Hetfield, Trent Reznor, ect. Kanami has a gift for interesting arrangements that grab you by the ears and don't let go! 🤘🤘🎹

Good to pick up the orchestral arrangements. Kanami only listening to classic music as a child, so that is probably why.
It is interesting that the arrangements have that thought behind them and the great sense of melody, but still don't sound "classical". Another example of Band-Maid's unique songwriting skills. Thank you so much for watching. 🤘🤝
Great song!! Too bad they muffled Kanami's guitar recording on this one. In fact most of the show wasn't mixed that good unfortunately. I read the crew recorded this show through the speakers, thus the flat guitar at times.
I saw them in Charlotte last year, had a BALL! New album should be out soon.
I guess the sound was a little muddy, but man, THAT ENERGY!! 🔥🌩I'm glad you got to see them in concert. Hopefully I will be able to do so at some point.
BAND-MAID consider themselves to be Hard Rock, though Metal is among their many influences. As for Genre Hairsplitting, they're more like Genre Jumpers! Punk, Funk, Power Pop, Metal, Jazz, Classical and Traditional is just scratching the surface for The Maids. They don't use an orchestra but if they need one Kanami will put it in the backing tracks. P.S. Saiki's name is pronounced Psyche (Sigh-Key).
