      I’m so in doubt buying this year’s model. I retired my 12(?) years old Nordica fire arrow 80 pro, which was a strong carving ski, but also twin tip and playful. It feels a bit today’s offering is either playful, or solely power, and I’m afraid to buy the declivity and find out it’s a lower speed limit than I had.
      How do you find your declivity?

    Thanks for another incredibly informative review. This is my 'everyday' ski category. Last winter I decided to try out Thunderbird R15 WBs based on your review. Took them out for a test run and found everything you said about them was absolutely true! They're mine now and I love them. I've got some fatties for steeper and deeper but snow conditions meant I skiied the Thunderbirds about 50 days. I can't ask for anything more than an accurate, qualified appraisal without the sales blurb. You've re-set the industry standard with these comparison videos. Can't thank you enough.

    racing background is probably the reason for that habit of lifting inside ski off the snow in most turns. also people old enough to have spent many years on LONG straight boards they (I) developed that style. It has taken lots of focus to just relax and roll and keep both skis on the snow. Unless there is so much pop tht both skis get airborne. lol great info

    I keep watching this over and over again. Without the opportunity to demo 2025 skis, your description of the Stöckli AX and the Peregrine 80 sound like either of these would be up my ally. I'm replacing a 2019 Atomic Vantage 82ti, 3 ski quiver it's the narrowest and I loved it over the Deacon 84 as the second choice. I loved how responsive and active the Vantage was, I usually am in the 176-180cm range but went short with the vantage at 167. Been a ton of fun, but it's time for a replacement. Would really appreciate your insight!

    Interesting comments about the Armada 82ti as in its perceived popularity and recognition. They didn't even bring the 82s into NZ this year.
    My 2023 ones were easily my favourite ski this year here and in Europe earlier. They absolutely exceeded my performance expectations, especially for how light they are.

      There's more of a dense feel in the 2025 for sure. I didn't feel that they took a huge downturn from an energy perspective, although that was a standout feature of the previous versions. Confidence in a carve is the biggest bonus of the new build. Keep in mind that 2025 product cannot be discounted on our site until about March. That said, if you have loyalty points from us, you can use those on 2025 skis.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 месяца назад +1

      I found the Arcade skis, both 84 and 88 to be exceptional front side carvers and not quite as versatile as they indicate in their catalog. The 84 is very happy making clean and round carves on groomers, but with the stiff flex and short radius, it feels a lot more like a wide front side ski like the Atomic Redster Q9.8 or the Nordica Spitfire 80.

      For all-mountain skis that are a level up, I'd narrow focus to the Stance 84 and the Declivity 82. Nice to have a bit of width for a balanced platform. The Declivity is a bit stiffer and a bit more carving-oriented while the Stance has more rocker and a more versatile character. I think you've already outgrown the M-Cross 78.

    How would you compare the declivity’s carving characteristics with the peregrines? Are they miles apart?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 месяца назад +2

      Declivity feels bouncier and more lively. You can access the entirety of the performance of the Declivity while most skiers won't quite find the limit of the heftier and burlier Peregrine. The binding matters, too, as the Peregrine's system puts you up higher and creates more leverage. Most skiers will put a flat binding (not demo) on the Declivity, bringing forth its all-mountain capacity.

    These reviews are brilliant. Was gonna buy last year and chickened out. Love the look of the Elan Wingman and your specific reviews on them indicate the amphibio nature really aid carving the skis. Stuck between Wingman 82Ti and 82 Cti... I ski in Europe so piste mainly. I'm an intermediate/advanced skier I guess. Get down anything (done the Wall and Harikari - just!) but really need to work on carving. Carving reds most enjoyable for me.. occasionally hitting around 40+ mph. Always had 72-76 mm renters (Rossi Hero MT/Dobermann Spitfire Pro etc) but want my own slightly more versatile skis for occasional off piste and also need to improve moguls which is a real weakness. Thought the Ti due to predictability but then you said if you want to work on carving the the Cti. What do you reckon?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 месяца назад +1

      Both are quite good at carving, the CTi has more energy and feedback through a carved turn due to the carbon rods. The lack of those rods in the Ti version allows for better mogul and short turn compliance. It sounds like you're looking at the Ti version to me.

    Hey! I’m a 22 years old ski instructor, somewhere in between intermediate to expert. I am searching for skis for my off days, something that I’ll be able to carve at different turn sizes and yet be playful at the bumps and in tree runs. Also, this will be my only skis for the season and I’m based in Colorado. So I definitely need something that can at least survive some powder. I thought about the m-cross 82 for its versatility. Would you agree? Would you recommend something else?
    Thank you so much in advance!!!

      M-Cross is great because it has such good carving chops for having more of an all-mountain profile. This mixes on and off-trail skiing quite effectively. I'd say the Armada Declivity 82 and the Blizzard Anomaly 84 also contain these characteristics.

      I don't think so only because it's in such a specific location in the shovels and the tails (model applicable). The rubber dust is whole ski so it feels like a more cohesive thing. That said, the K2's do a great job with that I-Beam and the stiffer sidewall underfoot, so there's certainly something there when it comes to damping--I totally hear what you're saying.

      The Peregrine 76 and the Rally are a lot more similar in terms of density, stability, and power. The 80 is a lighter duty ski that still has a lot of good grip and energy, but not quite the race-like feel of the other two which contain 2 sheets of metal and denser wood cores.

That said, in the mid-80's these are great choices. The Rossignol is the most advanced of the three with a lot of power and precision. Evolv is a great carver, but not very versatile. My opinion is that they are what you graduate to once you've mastered some of the better skis in this comparison. They are very precise and can shoot you into the air between turns if you really go for it. You can vary your turn radius easily and thankfully you can get to the brakes very easily with the slightest drift. They glide better than any other ski I've ridden, you are going to have a fast day when you're on them! One day last year I finished and realized my hearing had taken a bit of a beating. We talked about it, and it was on the original wide frontside list, but in order to balance the number of skis on each wall (narrow and wide), we elected to keep it in its narrow zone. Also, there are a lot of 75's from Atomic and Rossignol that we needed to have in the narrow comparison, so it just kind of had to go there. It's nice to have a more all-mountain ski in the narrow group to provide balance and to show the range of skis in a certain width zone.

      For short carved turns, the Curv is a better ski, but for short skidded turns and easier access to the performance, the Peregrine is more engaging. Just one, but important question:
    Do you tune the new skis before testing or test them as they are coming out of the factory wrap?
    In most of the cases, factory base bevels are "inaccurate" and they have a quite bad effect on the skiing experience.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 месяца назад +1

      We normally ski them right out of the wrapper if they come to us. If a rep brings them, they've more than likely gone through a tuning machine at some point, but also we seem to get first crack at a lot of very new skis. From time to time we can tell if a factory tune is off and it does affect the performance.

    It does not take long for groomers to get carved up.. So on and off edges fast is important for me but also to be able handle the ice to crud transition.. Early season groomer skis;)
    I watched your Stockli AS video and your Stockli AX and I heard you say that AX and AR have changed for this season but AS has not.. When you talk about AS being faster but also good at slow speed what do you mean by that? Is it faster on and off edges or faster when it comes to a speed limit.. I also saw in both of your videos that you were skiing both skis in crud.. And you even mentioned how they are both good in the moguls.. You mentioned how all Monteros are softer in the tips.. I know that some of Kastle skis are softer in the tips and I was not a huge fan of that.. Which Montero would be the best for early season when there are a ton of people on the 1 or 2 runs that are open with carved up crud? The other thing that I will mention is that my 25 year old race skis are 70mm x 170cm.. All my other skis are 177-184 range.. What benefit would I have with going with a Montero 177?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  3 месяца назад +4

      I'll try your questions in order:
      1. The AS can make clean and round turns at a variety of speeds better than some that can't. Thunderbird, for example, doesn't really start to smooth out until you get it up to speed. AS can make relatively easy and fun turns at slower speeds. It's also super-smooth like all Stockli, so you can let it run and it's quiet and composed in straighter-line speeds.
      2. I would say the AX is the best Montero for early season trail skiing with munched up groomers.
      3. Vs. your older race skis with a 70 mm waist, you're getting a more composed and quiet feel with a Montero. You're likely getting a shorter radius with any of them, specifically the AX. Like you said, the shovels are a bit softer for easier initiation and increased versatility, so that will be a change from a stiffer race ski, assuming that's what you've got. The Montero is more compliant and eager to initiate a turn as a result and you don't have to drive so hard to get them up on edge.

      Based on the boys separate video review, and some email advice, I bought the Wingman 82ti.
      I was looking for something to cruise around the groomers on, something a bit lighter and a bit easier to turn. I'm 55yr male 173cm 83kg advanced skier.
      I skied them Australian winter 2024, found them to be exactly what I was after. The description above is spot on, I found them easy to turn, effortless and predictable. You can carve them, skid them, easily come out of a turn, don't throw you into the back-seat. Best short turns I've ever done was on these and even a few bumps this year.
      Can rip it up when you want but at higher speeds (70kph gps) they do get a bit of chatter in the tips being softer and a bit more flex. If you want to rip it all day, hard aggressive skiing (expert level), I'd probably suggest the 82cti.
      The 82ti wingman is the perfect intermediate ski for someone looking to improve, to an all day cruiser for the advanced skier.

      The 86 Ti has a bit more rocker in tips and tails than the 82. Other than the width, that's the biggest difference on paper. On snow, the 86 does feel more versatile and amenable to bumps, trees, and other off-piste zones while the 82 feels more glued to the snow in a groomer and carving format.
