I feel exactly as you do about _WALL-E._ It's not just a great animated movie. It's a great movie, period. I mean what I say about it being the best love story I've ever seen. Fun fact. They did not employ voice actors for the robots. Their “voices” are comprised of electronic sounds. This was done by legendary sound designer Ben Burtt, who cut his teeth on movies like Star Wars, where he created the sounds of R2-D2 and Chewbacca, as well as all of the other alien and droid sounds.

    • @almas4663

@@almas4663 Burtt takes sounds from the real world, digitizes them, and reassembles them to suit his needs. It’s what he does. So, yes, you can say that he “voiced” Wall-e, in that he recorded his own voice. But he then broke that recording into component parts and assembled them into Wall-e’s dialog, changing the tone and pitch as needed.
The same was done for Eve using a Pixar employee to supply the original sounds. Neither of them read every single thing the characters said in the movie. They were created by piecing together component sounds from the source recordings.

Another wonderful reaction Addie! As eveyone else has said, it's a masterpiece. But for me, it has an extra level of significance. It was the first movie that our autistic son ever connected with. He was 6 when this came out (he'll be 21 in July), and for some reason he bonded with it, and the two main characters. My guess is that for much of the movie there was not much dialog, but it was visually striking. Also since he's always been fascinated by mechanical devices rather than living things, he found the two main characters impossible to resist. For whatever reason, he watched this movie daily for months after we got a dvd copy of it. So it's always had a special place in my heart.

    So at the end;
1- his tape was replaced and wall-e reverted to his "factory" setting so thats why he didnt remember.
2- Listen closely to Eve during the spark, she hums the song for holding hands that wall-e had played earlier
3- Back up a bit and if you see the captain portraits, Auto gets closer and closer to the portrait this emphasizes that the order he recieved was "Take control of everything." really adds to the dark element.

WALL-E, M-O and the majority of "male" robots are voiced by Ben Burtt, the very sound effects guy who made the sound effects for the first six Star Wars movies, such as R2-D2's voice, the blaster bolts, the lightsabers, Darth Vader's breathing, Luke's Landspeeder, the X-Wing, the TIE Fighters, etc.
Elisa Knight, a Pixar employee voices EVE and her voice is distorted through a wo-coder. She previously voiced Tia, one of Lightning McQueen's girl fans in Cars.
AUTO is voiced through MacTalk, the text-to-speech program used on Mac computers (Pixar uses Mac as Steve Jobs, Apples' founder and CEO until his death in 2011, owned Pixar after buying the unit from LucasFilm in the 1980's).

didnt even realize beforehand, but a cool detail: The BnL ceo gives override command A113 to Auto, giving him the command to not return to earth. From the very first time Auto scans eve, at 14:43 , that code flashes in his eye, showing his machinations from the get go

There's a really cool theory about this movie! It goes something like WALL-E slowly got smarter over time to do his job better and after SO LONG out there he learned to take parts from broken down WALL-E's to keep him going and eventually gained some form of sentience. When all of his parts and motherboard was replaced, he lost his memory, but the spark from EVE allowed the bug or glitch to happen again so he came back! I'm sure whoever I yoinked this theory from worded it better, but I thought it was so interesting!
Such a good movie. Makes me so warm and fuzzy

One of my favorite animated films. It really warmed my heart to see how much this touched yours, from the very first minute of the film.
The big red eye in the middle of AUTO was a reference to HAL in 2001. Then the addition of a few bars of the 2001 theme to the score toward the end.
There's a short called BURN-E included on the DVD that goes nicely with the story in WALL-E. You should watch it if you can.
Addie, if you like animation, does that include Claymation? There's a brilliant British artist named Nick Park who made a series of Oscar winning shorts starring Wallace and Gromit, and inventor and his dog. Together, they would make a great reaction video. The first one, A Grand Day Out, is even about space travel. There's also a full length Wallace and Gromit movie that was released in the US, and he made the Chicken Run movie that was also released in the US and that maybe you're familiar with.

Glad you finally got here, Addie. Congrats.

One of the little details that I think a lot of people might miss is AUTO referring to EVE's mission as the "annual reconnaissance". Annual. It isn't EVE's first time on Earth, or second, or third. Given BNL pulling the plug on everything after five years, I doubt she (and her siblings) was made after that point. So she's been at her work for just as long as WALL-E, and moreso has likely spent much of it in sleep mode going back and forth between the Axiom and Earth. It makes her frustration at not finding anything even more understandable.
I for one would absolutely love to see you react to Shane Acker's 9! One of the most creative stories I've seen in any film, animated or otherwise, and has an ending that punches just as hard as WALL-E's in my opinion.
