You also have to see the short of Wall-E called Burn-E. It's only a few minutes, but it a sort of side story about another robot.

He really rose up, and proved that he deserved to be the captain. He may not have represented himself as a responsible captain in the very beginning, but you come to realize that's just because years of mundane duties never demanded anything extraordinary out of him. He had sunken into a dull routine, and became lackadaisical as a byproduct of repetition. But when push came to shove, he was ready and willing to shove back. He took his position and responsibilities seriously, even if his first impression in the film implied otherwise.

Pixar set a very high bar, so that’s not to say anything bad about their other movies… I just always felt something special about these two… and just below for me would be Up (the first 10 minutes might even be the greatest 10 minutes Pixar ever created) and The Incredibles.

Was so lucky to see this 3 times when it was in theaters. I was 14 but even then I fell in love with the film. Also remember how in a theater full of much young children everyone was appropriately quiet in the first 1/3rd of the film since it’s very little dialogue but that only speaks to the powerful storytelling that children were entranced by a film about an expressive robot that’s a hopeless romantic. One of Pixar’s masterpieces.

Pixar movies are definitely known for being able to get you to cry, for getting you emotionally invested. Sadly, Disney seems to have caused that reputation to slide, as now people think of Pixar as the "straight to streaming" studio, but they've made some amazing movies. Once, they were the prestige studio from Disney, making what their parent company only wished they could do. Maybe they can get back to that level of notoriety.

I remember not really liking the film much as a child, but it's really grown on me as I've gotten older, and I now think it's one of Pixar's best films, and one of the best animated films ever made. The fact they're able to get you so invested in a love story between two robots with basically no dialogue; the fact that this kids' film has such powerful messaging and commentary about environmentalism, consumerism and apathy in the face of disaster; the fact that the big subversive twist is that the evil robot is evil because he's rigidly following orders rather than developing his own identity and personality like the other robots. The animation is gorgeous, the little dialogue we get is poignant and powerful, and Thomas Newman's score is honestly one of his best, this entire film is just brilliant, it's one of my favourites now

As a fan of both the Pixar films and "Hello, Dolly!", this had me hooked in the first seconds. The eerie fadeout of the opening song wasn't just an editing choice but also necessary to preclude any chance of hearing Barbra Streisand - with whom they apparently couldn't strike a deal for the use of her voice. Part of what makes this movie so amazing and beloved is that WALL-E is such an absolute sweetheart who brightens the day of everyone he comes into contact with. Also, the little robot that put the plant into the escape pod, is called GO-4 (aka Gopher, like the kind of person sent to do menial tasks). He took the plant and tried to get rid of it because he was ordered to do so by the Auto-pilot, who had orders not to go back to earth. Personally, I feel that the Auto-pilot also liked being in control and didn't want the status quo to change.

This movie is like the inverse of _Up_ in a way. Where _Up_ ripped your heart out and stomped on it at the _start_ of the movie, _WALL•E_ waits until the _end_ to do it.

The filmmakers dubbed the cockroach WALL-E keeps as a pet "Hal", in reference to silent film producer Hal Roach (as well as being an additional reference to HAL 9000).

Theres a nice VERY tiny detail in the last part where Eve sparks wall-e on earth. In the close up you can very faintly hear Eve hum a part of the song where the two humans hold hands, It makes the scene that much more impactful that she remembers what Wall-E wanted.

The message of this movie is inversely proportional to the spoken dialogue between WallE and EVA. Ie huge!
The master class of conveying emotion simply through eye and hand movements has not been exceeded yet.
I really loved this movie when it came out and discover new hidden gems in it every time I watch it. Definitely a movie that will advance into the realm of the classics.

what an ending right? the thought that the one you loved is gone forever and even though they're "alive", they don't know you at all... like that was DEVASTATING... that like physically hurt me in the theater. the reason why he comes back seems to be just "true love's kiss" and it doesn't quite make sense. what i would have liked was that during that final moment, she accidentally hits "play" on his onboard tape deck and that he had recorded his personality data and that loaded it back. like in the 80s, old commodore 64 and other 8bit computers used tape decks to save and load programs so that would have totally been a sensible plot point.
also... "OTTO"... otto pilot... auto pilot. like "manual" is "manuel" lol.
just an amazing movie. i don't buy a lot of movies but after watching this in the theater, i purchased it as soon as the dvd came out.

Hey Jen, Wall-E follows the tenant of 'Show rather than tell', -------- The animation study developed at Disney is to give inanimate objects personality and make you connect with them. -------- Pixar has taken this concept and made it into an art form. -------- You feel it from the logo animation at the start of every movie when the lamp draws you into their world.

Didn't know that a "spork" was a thing until I worked inside a state prison for 4 years. The inmates could buy their own spork by ordering from an approved catalog, but of course, they mostly choose to steal them from the mess hall. Just one of the little things that kept us busy, enforcing the rules and confiscating contraband.

Oh, Jen... I almost broke my screen because I stretched out my arms because I felt like you needed the biggest of big hugs. I came across this movie completely by accident, I was travelling home and had a stop at Copenhagen Airport, I went to an electronics shop which also sold DVDs (remember those?) and bought one or two. As I went to pay, the cashier told me, hey, wanna buy this one too, I really recommend it. So I allowed myself to be persuaded and bought the third DVD. And that third DVD was Wall-E. It got to sit on my shelf for over a year but then one day I took it down and put it on. And man, did I ever fall in love with a movie quickly. The story really captivated me.
So yes, great reaction as always, Jen. Really looking forward to the next one.

Actually in this masterpiece there was not such a thing as an intentional villain.
The Autopilot of the Axiom just worked within its given parameters. And those were implemented by the management of BnL who had good intentions to save mankind after they messed up earth, but then failed in the cleanup and tried to cover it up by keeping the ships away from earth. The instructions just were negiglent implemented, not considering a possible sealf healing of earth.
Just with the autopilots model after which it was designed and which Jen recognized by the music: In the movie "2001- a space odissey" the acting autopilot, the HAL 9000, had exactly the same interface look with his single glowing red eye. And just like here the catastrophe was caused by putting computer logic in dilemma with conflicting orders.

This is the first (and only as far as I know) Pixar movie to have real humans in it. It is also the first (and possibly only) one to use primarily pre-existing music for the soundtrack. One question though: If they've been traveling for 700 years A) How did Wall-E and Eve get to them so quick and how did the Axiom get back to Earth so fast? I think the answer is that they've not been traveling in a straight line away from Earth but rather in some kind of orbit around the sun, waiting for conditions to improve).
