Ace, I've got a 79 bay converted panel van. Absolutely love it. You'll find the 3/4 bed a bit snug for the 2 of you, I'm in the middle of moving my kitchen unit behind the front seats to give me a full width bed.

Congratulations! You'll love it! Having owned all manor of air-cooled vw's over the years, incl beetles, splittys, bays, T25's T3 Squarebacks, Notchbacks and like yourself, the worst ever vehicle I've owned being a T4! Now I'm quite happy just having the Sidewalk but you'll have great fun and the VW scene is epic. The engines are so simple and easy to work on, less than 30mins and the engine can be out. Enjoy, if you need anything, just ask, still know quite a few guys with parts, especially for engine.

Nice! I’ve got a ‘71 bay. We use it as a mobile beach hut. ‘71 is the best year… all early styling (no crossover styling) and the first year with discs on the front. Enjoy her, we love ours. (I Also have 5 minis, all off the road at the mo 😢 and have had an amazon for a bit)

Well done that's really nice. We've got an Australian import 73 late bay. Bought it as shell. Got it useable now. Still needs more work but it's great fun. Good luck. Looking forward to some VW content.

@@SimpsonsClassics ya, in the US, commercial vans were generally a full-sized Chevy or Ford. I don't recall ever seeing a commercial bay window. You will occasionally see commercial splitties though even that is pretty rare.

My Dad had an apple green late bay LHD Minibus from Holland in the mid 80's (even remember the reg lol) and we absolutely loved it. The engine packed up eventually and he replaced it with a Mark 1 Cavalier rather than fix it, I was gutted. You will love this experience, it's a slower pace of life and loads of fun and the LHD doesn't matter as you hardly ever overtake anything!!

@@CooperSTraveller haha it does have a detachable tow bar but don’t think the old girl is a tower.. Low and slow. We have Vera for the towing 👍

That is one awesome VW camper van! I've always loved them. I literally see them all the time by me, especially in the spring and summer (which makes me want one even more haha). Good luck with this project, it lookes solid and perfect for holidays! I personally agree with removing the front cover, although its cool, I feel like its hiding some of the amazing lines and looks of the vehicle. Can't wait to see more content on this👍😎

Congrats the both of you! We miss our early Bay. The first lesson I learned was that Van tinware is a different shape to Beetle Tinware. The rubber seal separating engine bay from road has to be intact and close fitting, all cooling suffers if not, and beetle tinware don't fit :)
Also, Schofields in Glossop supplied all the essential panels for our running repairs

Definitely loose the rear side window. Panel vans are so much better looking 😍
aha I did want one window in the slider, plus it does make driving a LHD in the uk easier. But I dont plan to fit anymore.

Love classic cars but air cooled VW's are the biggest bag of spanners going. Massively overpriced fashion statements. You'll see more of these broken down at the side of the road than you will EV's! Don't hate me 😂

@@SimpsonsClassics I had a bay window 1979 Westfalia 2l twin carb about 20 years ago. Absolute money pit, it put me off them for life! I'll stick with my mini! Each to their own though hey. Hope you enjoy it Mark 👍
