    Incredibly lucky that didn't occur on the journey home - timely maintenance. I think the diagnosis on the drum shoe is spot on - though as I am months behind, you already know this or not... 😂 Great content as always, Marc. The old bus is still a beast. Good to see Matt back on the channel, you've a great friend/channel dynamic.

    I restored a T2 and yeah, the “easy-to-fix” engine was made as such for a reason. I love the look, it’s a hoot to drive, buuut… I’m done with air-cooled, carburated engines. Thankfully doing a FI AP engine swap is fairly easy. I’m doing that for my current 1975 Puma GTE project.

  • @mcmotors100
    @mcmotors100 Год назад +1

    I think one valve had been adjusted too tight, put load on the stud, it finally gave up, loosening the rocker shaft and making the valve adjustment really loose and very noisy. Nice that it waited to give you some content before failing. I’m guessing as you said the handbrake locked on through lack of use and was ripped off when trying to free it. Give us some more symptoms of the starter issue… is it clicking… getting power. Much enjoyed… I thought I was the only one jinxed with new(to me) car issues.

    • @SimpsonsClassics
      @SimpsonsClassics  Год назад

      Yes I think your right with the stud. New parts have arrived now so hopefully we can sort it out.
      The starter issue is odd it’s like the battery isn’t charging but the starter doesn’t always engage. Obviously not had chance to look at that as the engine is in bits currently. I will keep you all posted.

    That the lash cap from the swivel foot

  • @georgeclements2742
    @georgeclements2742 Год назад +2

    That stud must have been overtightened. If replacements are not readily available, it doesn't look like a difficult job to make them for anyone with a lathe and turning experience. Perhaps a tougher grade of steel to prevent recurrence of the problem although, to be honest, it shouldn't need a lot of torque.

    • @SimpsonsClassics
      @SimpsonsClassics  Год назад

      Yes that’s what we think also. I have the new correct fitting kit now. So hopefully we can get it all built back up and running soon.

    • @rennkafer13
      @rennkafer13 Год назад +1

      Overtightened was my first thought as well. The EMPI covers are known leakers, and the usual solution for most people is "it must not be tight enough" leading to overtightening and broken parts. From what I can see there the engine builder did it right correcting the rocker geometry when assembling the engine (or at least made an effort at it) so I don't think that's the problem. If it were me, I'd probably be making sure you weren't near coil bind on the valve spring at full lift, and that you have some room to the piston as well, as either of those could also cause that failure.

  • @TVtwarn
    @TVtwarn Год назад +1

    It seems so obvious that stud not being captive to the rocker shaft ! But it’s not 😅 soon as I saw a snapped stud my brain went straight to doom 😂 images of trying to remove it clouded any mechanical sense
