I remember in primary school reciting a poem by Dorethea Mckellar written in 1903, it goes like this: "I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains, of ragged mountain ranges , of drought and flooding rains, I love her far horizons , I love her jewel sea, her beauty and her terror , this wide brown land for me". The bush fires to be followed up by floods and rain were bd but they are nothing new.
Couldn't agree more Ron. Both of them are so well suited and such a blessing to each other. And their life is such a great example to the rest of us. ;-}
You guy should work for the tourism ministry. I'm really loving both your sailing VLOGS and touring Australia through your eyes. Thank you so much. Fair winds and following seas.
Ahhhh.....the J.B. shuffle. I remember it well. Enjoy the close proximity to super market, servo and grog shop. Leave dinghy at foot bridge. Cheers,Rob
Pascale and Troy, I'm still watching, every episode just gets better and better, just lovely mate and first mate, it's such a pleasure to see you two, living and working together, it gives me pause, it gives me hope and faith in life, if Y'all can do it on a 30'er, then it can be done anywhere, by anyone! God Bless you both, by Christ Jesus, and bless Mirrooll and everything you put your hand to do, Amen!!! P.S. That's a free one, I had a left-over blessing, that I wasn't using, so I saved for Y'all, so Y'all don't worry.
@@philipritson8821 Philip, it is nonsense. 2019 was the worst drought year for Australia since the government has kept records, but the trend for annual rainfall is upwards. If climate change is doing anything to Australia, it's making it wetter. And why wouldn't it? Higher temperatures produce more atmospheric water.
Been a while. Gotta say again you remain my favorite channel. You can't imagine the design changes I've made in the finishing details of what seems to be my forever build. Pascale has caused a complete remodel of the galley, the type and stowage of the dingy, types and location of the winches, all manner of things. Have to review the episode of the windlass, I'm a bit leary of a power only system and at my age I need mechanical advantage to houist by hand. Hell of an adventure for something I haven't yet floated.
We had a unusually high 80 degrees at Hermosa Beach, Ca. Today... Took a long bike ride and stopped to enjoy evening sun against a flat calm Pacific .. Not a bad Winters day 👍. Priorities are correct across the pond 👍
So happy to see another episode hot off the press! Great start to my afternoon of working on our boat and getting it ready for our voyages. Very inspired by both of you. Cheers!
Nice one guys. Hope you are having fun down south. I often think I don't want to ever go near Sydney. But you and a couple other channels have shown me it might be alright for a little while. My boat has stalled while I try to find a new place to build. Going to get a trailer so no matter what state the boat is in, it's transportable. A little down in the dumps at the moment about people not saying what they mean, and meaning what they say. But a little bit of FRS goes a long way. Thanks.
As you left Sydney and headed south you pass a view point near Watson’s bay, years ago I carved “PILL SHARKS, PILL ON THE MUD” into some timber, I often wonder If it’s still there, you passing it just reminded me again... I’ll have to have another visit to Sydney soon! That smog looks like London in the 1800s, I bet you couldn’t wait to leave...must be crap having to live in that 24/7...
Great music choices this week. Troy really is allergic to cities, isn't he! Even in hidden inlets, or on walks in wild parks - the city is still there lurking over the horizon, and he needs wide open spaces and far-away feelings. I'm happy to watch from a safe distance.
I thought for sure that once you got to Sydney you would have access to the resources needed to replace that broken boom. The patch to the broken one seems to be holding up well though.
Thankfully I always wear headphones :) That whistle would've had all the puppies yapping here! Loved it!! I'll have to remember when you land in Vic to not bring the puppies or they'll just absorb Troy into their family :D :D :D Loved that snuggle with you both at the end, that looked like pure bliss for you both, a true representation of freedom. I know close quarters 24/7 can have it's moments, but it's in those quiet ones that you can really see the joy that you have. Until next week,
Was wondering if there is a silica pack or system that you could use on the yacht to help keep the moisture down for things like tools and electronics and such? Love your videos, they are top notch! Just about finished binge watching them all from the beginning, but popped down here to the latest video to leave this message hoping you'll see it and that it may be helpful. Thank you for sharing God's awesome creation and creatures, I'd have never seen it otherwise. Watching your videos takes the pain away for a while, thank you.
Great vid. ( as usual) You are one of the best Vbloger in the sailing fraternity. Down to earth and living the dream. Keep up the good work . I believe you are heading to Tassy. (if not already there) I have recently sailed back from there and now in Adelaide. Where else in the world can you tie your yacht up in the main street of a capital city. We ended up spending 3 + months in Constitution dock. If you want to see some of the best cruising grounds to Australia, please allocate 12 months down there. I cruised the Whitsundays in a TS and intended to take the keel boat up there but ended up being "trapped" in Tassy. and need to sail back there one day.
Nice draw bridge. Fog/smoke so big boys sound their horns. In the fall season it gets it's foggy days & tugs & ships sound their horns a lot any time of day or night on the Fraser R. BC province. I'm 3-4 KMs away so it's not too loud but many people live close to the river the noise must wake them up from their zzzzzz. One boater in a runabout boat told me he got into so thick fog off Vancouver( Georgia Straight/ Howe Sound) that he had zero idea where he was. Like he could see maybe 5 meters. He even was out all night...yrs ago so he had no cell phone. No radio either. After he drifted on shore & had no idea where he was. Forgot exactly the story from there but anyways he lived to tell the story. Ah Troy looks alittle like Ringo. Thought I'd add that in. Yous looked like your so happy to leave the busy city & get out on the water highway(s) . God bless safe & happy travels.
Hehehehe, having a good chuckle about the fog, and your whistle. We had a pea soup fog rounding Cape Point and all the way into the port of cape Town and the guys took the piss by giving me one of those little plastic horns which sounded like a duck being shagged up the freckle😂😂😂 instead of the aerosol air horn, well I was laughing so much I couldn't blow it properly. Good fun after a longish light air passage. Fair winds and safe sailing, I know you've already crossed the Bass strait to Tazzy which I'm glad about. Keep em coming, I see you're still sailing with your patched boom
That's a gorgeous waterway in places is Middle Harbour. You could have picked a worse spot than that. I can't wait to see what JB has in store for you. An area I lived in and have holidayed to for most of my life. I'm not exaggerating when i say that there are oysters as big as a bar of soap down there if you know where to find them. I hope someone put you onto them and surely you did well fishing in that region. cheers.
Love the ASMR sailing, maybe you can upload a longer ASMR sailing video of like 60 to 90 minutes. I like the smaller Smaller Vessels, under 30' cause it's the only ones I'll be able to afford when I retire soon. Lol oh well it's still working on a boat in exotic places.
Far..Kurnell Botany Bay? Opportunity missed guys. Birthplace of a nation. Neat museum, coastal walks and 👍fishing. May have been of interest to your "international" viewers.
I love the smell of Oil refinery in the morning :) .. only kidding, I used to be a Kurnellian (now moved all the way to Cronulla), and it's not all that bad.
Hey guys 🤙🏻 did you end up catching up with Ross boardman (life on the hulls) while in jervis? The one I told you about building the Catamaran. A long way since Hervey Bay, enjoy guys 🤙🏻 🏝⛵️
You guys used to fish alot off the boat when anchored, haven't seen you guys do that for some time. Is the fishing just poor in the part of Oz you are currently in?
Hi Guys, enjoy your footage, we have just left Jervis, been to Ulladulla, now at Batemans and tmrw at Bruoelle then Bermagui, we are on a Catalina 36"Elle", on our way back to Lakes Entrance, Vic. We are a couple like you based in the Gippsland Lakes, if you are considering entering Lakes Entrance , visit Gippsland Ports website and study the tide flows etc, its not that hard but you need to consider the current flow throught the bar, i usually time it with 1kt or zero flow. Who knows we may cross paths, cheers Paul & Jodie, ruclips.net/video/yqPLneO8fNs/видео.html

Another great episode from Free Range Sailing... Especially enjoyed watching the Pascale snuggle at 13:36 and Troy’s grin ! Lucky man !

love watching you put that rail in the water
She projects such a kind personality, I just friggen love her!...I'm sure I'm not the only one to be intoxicated by her, you're a lucky man Troy!
Another ripper! Thank you !!
Another great video! It's heartbreaking to see the destruction the fires caused. I'm glad you guys were safe on the waterr

I hope you agree

We appreciate all and every blessing you send our way CJ. Best wishes to your family.
The burning of Australia has been very distressing to watch. I'm glad you are safe and sound. Best wishes and safe sailing to you both.
The sea don't burn!
But yes it's difficult to be climate crisis central!
Maybe we should stop selling coal!
Feel better now?

The wind has done that. Give credit where credit is due!
Nice Video Thanks

Thanks T & P another great video beautifully filmed.

Funny with the ugly cat, wave driven ”scaregull” on the fore deck (at 6:16).

You’ll working through the fog and smoke was the most exciting footage I have anywhere in a month. Thanks for Sharing
I see you are still running the patched boom, it seems to be holding up well, perhaps the patch made it better than new : )
13:38 Picture.
Thanks Guys. Homesick for Sydney. Pittwater Shipwright marooned in Port Lincoln.
Love your Channel.
A peaceful change of pace. Enjoyed this episode. Cheers
Nice one. Envy sailing in sunny weather and the warm when the winter is pressent her in Norway, even thow it's a mild one this year. Fair winds🤙

great sailing !!!! fair winds and a cool beer for the crew !!! Cheers
Nice. An Informative and relaxed presentation. The smoke looked awful, so glad those fires are past. Where to next? The Apple Isle maybe...
Amazing footage and attitude. An inspiration. Thanks. Fair winds, from Lisbon !
You didn't replace your broken boom!

Hi Bruce. Hope your year is starting off great.
Thanks again for the great videos. I'm curious, why there are lines or bungees between the upper shroud and mast above the spreader at 10:28 & 13:26?
Stop halyards wrapping around and fouling on the objects at front of mast.
again a vy nice video, thanks - you are really a good team - congrates pascal and troy :-)
best regards from austria
The whole ethos of `washing the city grime off me` say`s it all.. Sooner I can get to it the better.

Yep, we save each one we get. Chemical supply stores often carry it in tubs for little cost. It can be reused after oven baking usually.

Birthplace of a nation.

I imagine the container ships and airport noise was a factor for not wanting to anchor there.
Yep. It was a bit more placid when the good Captain Cook dropped in.

@@Potsie born and bred on the Port Hacking (Burraneer Bay)...lot of mates worked at the Oils...good mates with the Morgans.👍

It was only an observation and no skin lost...✌sail on.👍
Cookie would be proud of what we did with the place 👍
Surprised you did not replace the boom in the big city? great job as always.
Sydney is $$$ and 3 weeks wait.
Aye m8's, amazing to find such a quiet spot in a 5"000'000 town! (yes, I checked it out on Google Earth as always)
You can imagine our surprise! We were bracing for an assault of the senses but ended up having a lovely time in Sydney.
" i've got my ole trusty conch shell horn " Can't whistle loud enough to raise an eyebrow 😄👍👍🇺🇸
Buy a whistle??
Now I thought whistling on a boat was a sure way to raise a wind - and then a big blow comes along. Just don't go sticking your knife in the mast.
I once saw a conch shell jazz band at the London Hotel at Balmain, Sydney. It had to be seen to be believed the tunes they could play. Just amazing!
Great to be able to escape the "big smoke"... Notice you have a new stablised camera or editing technique?
Thanks for sharing!

No, didn't get to
#121 ... and always good. I cant help wondering what you are thinking and what #500 will bring :)
More grey hairs I suspect.
Where is that peaceful anchorage in the harbour? Great video guys! love you! Stay safe.
The people who told us asked is not to say.
Haha. Troy may not want to give it away but I’ll blow its cover. Bantry Bay. 😁
Hello from France
👏👏👏👏👏😎😎😎😎
You guys used to fish alot off the boat when anchored, haven't seen you guys do that for some time. Is the fishing just poor in the part of Oz you are currently in?
We prefer to spearfish wherever possible because of how selective it is. In the Kimberley that was a fatal passtime!
Greetings from Germany.
Is it possible to wash dishes on a yacht by trawling them out the back in a netting bag?
What kind of sail material are you using? It seems pretty quiet on your videos! All the best.
Normal dacron
🌈❤️💪😎
is that fog or smoke?
Gun emplacements around Sydney?
Presumably, they are left overs from the Napoleonic Wars.
The cannons seen in this vid probably are. There was much larger guns around the harbour for WW1-2.
Just asking - do you guys never have any plans to sail anywhere other than Oz ?
Depends if we can afford it.
Troy, Love your videos, but I would rather see Pascale washing off the city grim than you. Come on mate share the soap. 😜
