    My personal favorite automatic door has been the Hen Hut Automatic door. It was only 65 dollars, and for that price it is made out of quality metal and has been reliable for months. I would recommend The Hen Hut if you are looking for an affordable and quality automatic door.

    I like this door. Note that if the door is in an area where racoons can access it they can pry the door open. My coop is fully enclosed and secured

    Hello Ms. Cara, Cute chicken door. I have not seen one that opens to the sides. All the ones I have seen open up and down. I have heard that Chicken Rub has some really good automatic doors. TFS! Blessings to you! ✝🕊🙏🏼💖

      Opening side to side is a nice feature if your coop didn't have space for it to go vertical.

    Do you still love it? I lost 3 girls to a raccoon, looking for an automatic door that is tried and true, can't afford to go wrong and have to buy another one.

    How do you feel about it now after some months? Do you live in a place where it gets extremely cold? Sometimes it can get to -40° with windchill and I just dk how to find one that will stand up to that. Even if it doesn't need to opened during those Temps I've heard of them freezing so much they then break. Thank you for the video.

      We still really like this door! I can not speak on how it does in extreme cold though. We do not experience cold winters like that here in Virginia. I am in zone 7 for comparison. It drops into the negatives only a few times each winter and typically only at night for a short period. For the most part our winters are pretty mild though. Sorry I can’t be more help on that specific issue. -Cara

    My question is concerning the chickens kicking or tracking bedding into the door track. Have you had that issue yet? Your rooster is very handsome also! 💙

    • @bluebirdhomestead
      @bluebirdhomestead  Год назад +1

      Yes we have had this issue. Dirt and bedding gets in the track and then the door doesn’t close. I use a small screwdriver typically to clear the track if it becomes an issue - Ryan

    • @rubatoguy
      @rubatoguy 9 месяцев назад +1

      We have the chickcozy door as well, and this is our only complaint. The track is the perfect size to get filled with bedding as the hens exit the coop. When this happens, the door will make multiple tries to close, and then will stay open. There is no warning light or anything that alerts you to the fact that the door is jammed. What this has meant for us, is that even though we have an automatic door, we have to manually check to make sure it closed at night. I am going to try adding a lip to the coop to try to contain the bedding so it will not get caught in the track. Very sad for us as we lost a hen to a predator because the door was jammed and did not close, allowing the bad guys into the coop at night.

    Hey. I think this coop door is NOT able to protect our chicken from predaters. I have test many coop doors, but this one the most insecure from all!

      My favorit coop opener are the AXT VSD from Germany whit a separate clock, or the "Chicken Cooper" solar opener from Austria.

      We are in zone 7 with milder winters so I cannot say for sure, because I don’t have personal experience. We currently use normal batteries in it (there are other options for charging) and they do need replaced a little more often in colder weather. Our is also slightly protected from rain because of the roof so it has never iced over. -Cara
