Great information. Using eggs shelves to balance your pH and provide calcium to you aquaponics. I never thought of using a lime to do that. Not everything is by the books. Like banana full of potassium. Keep the cramps away.

I've 50 gallons tank with ph 7.8 from tap water. I threw in two lime and nothing changed. My fish still swimming. However, I don't think lime is good enough, so I'm going to play with muriatic acid for my 200 gallons.

My Name is Manfred from Namibia. Am trying to set-up Aquaponics in Namibia and has already installed tanks in a building to grow fish and vegetables, but has no glue how to go about vegetables. Your website is very informative and a eye-opener for me! Don't you want to come to Namibia and become my partner!!! How can you assist me! Please I love to grow food for the vulnerable and destitute children and also making an income for my self Am 61 years old and a pensioner. Thanks Manfred Uxamb, Namibia.

Manfred Uxamb The best is keep it simple don't over complicate the system.

What about a 20 gallon tank?? How much will lower the PH in a system that size? I'm thinking of also using driftwood to lower the pH, have you ever use it and if so would you recommend this?

Does 1 tsp of lime actually change the ph at all? Seems like it wouldn't move it a smudge. Why use citric acid when you could use ro, distilled, rain? Seems like citric acid is the last thing you would opt for. RO is available at almost every super market. Looks like you have a beautiful place there. peace.

turdfurgison A system with a high pH with 300 gallons of water will need about 50-100 gallons of water to make a change. pH is a lot like hot and cold water one gallon of pH 8 mixed with one gallon of pH 6 = two gallons of 7pH. Some places don't allow the collection of rain water and some just have low rain fall.

39 cents a gallon for ro water. 20 bucks and a lot of lifting. Got to get that exercise somewhere! I realize that this is not practical for most people and using some sort of concentrate would be an option. Does a tsp of lime juice really change the ph in 300 gallons?

turdfurgison I would not have told everyone on the video if it would not work. I will say the one tsp is a little conservative but most people are always going to think more is better. Plus aquaponics needs to change slow so 1 tsp max 2 is all I ever add in one day. I maintain 4000 - 5000 gallons of fish tanks here at my place and its the method I use when needed. I have used the methods for around 25 years in aquariums and over 10 years in aquaponics. I am not here just making videos of what I think will work. As for the 39 cents a gallon water, your area is a lot cheaper then my store. My supermarket is nearly a $1 a gallon. I have seen a new 300 gallon system need as much as 100-150 gallons change to adjust pH. If you choose to purchase bottled water that is ok to use. I am just not going to recommend everyone to use something so costly and a lot of trouble plus I try to be considerate of our environment and use as little plastic as I can.

You can bring your own container. I am sure you have an RO machine that is near you. It is a machine that is usually in the back and you have to turn a knob or press a button to operate it. It is plumbed to the municipal water supply. There is no plastic bottles involved. I guarantee you have one of these machines near you. Maybe this is the first you are hearing of it. I am definitely NOT talking about buying bottled water. Also, I would have to see the ph meter change right in front of my eyes to make me believe that 1-2 tsp of lime juice will change the ph of 4000 gallons of water even a tenth of a point. Sorry. peace and love brother. we are on the same path. P.S. - Primo water machine in Walmart 37/gal in Statesville.

turdfurgison The reverse osmosis system will work if that is what one chooses to use. I never stated anywhere that 1 tsp will change pH in 4000 gallons. I said I maintain around 4000 plus gallons here at my place and the lime juice is all I ever use. I have not been in Walmart in 10 plus years. I try and support mom and pop independent business as much as I can. If that is not a option I order online. I am sorry that me doing a video of how I maintain pH at my place has become so controversial with you. My intentions are to show others what I am doing in hope to help them do things organic and not use the acids and such as some of the others use. How you choose to do your pH is total up to you and really makes no difference to me. I don't do the videos to start this bickering of whats better.
