I run a 242 tower farm this is the best info out there if you're making the journey. His humidity controls lessons, along with the Nute videos, are very informative. He is honestly ,why I'm a good farmer.
Thanks very much, just delving into aquaponics now and I'm near 70. So lots to learn and use. We have a water shortage in Australia so every drop counts. All you vids are very informative, thanks again. :)
love your videos. I bored with all the update and how to build videos. I always think I know it all, but then you post another video. Thanks. Please keep schooling us
Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge Nate. I look forward to this series. This is my second summer season with my system and it frustrated me a lot this year. I think nutrients is most likely the reason. Many good thing to you and Bright Agrotech.
We appreciate the nice comments, EcoCrewAquaponics ! Happy to help grow the #Aquaponics movement and get people growing healthier, more sustainable food.
Hey Nate, I just wanted to thank you for all your hard work and adding all of this great content for us! I ordered two of your grow towers and I am eagerly awaiting there arrival. I have a very small backyard system that I am rather proud of. I will have to post a video of it as things start getting bigger. I am incorporating your towers with two gravel media grow beds. The grow beds are doing great and all of my seedlings are growing like crazy.
Hey there, grackleone! Thanks for that! We're working to make more educational videos and do our best to make them as concise as possible as to not bore you guys. We're getting ready to publish Dr. Nate's Ph.D dissertation on our website - it's chocked full of all kinds of great stuff. Stay tuned!
Hi Bruce, While plants only "need" the big 13 mineral nutrients, they also take up many many more and make them available to us. However, they technically don't need these nutrients to survive. Most of the other nutrients humans need are available in a diverse diet, and the plants grown in your system are still supplying a vast majority of these- they just aren't listed as "essential" for plant growth and development.
Hi Nate. Greeting from South Africa. Thank you very much for this video. I've been trying to get more info on this subject for aquaponics. Have you maybe got useful links to read up more info?
Hey David, thanks so much for your order. We value your business and your trust. We would love to see your backyard system when you have a chance to make a video. Keep us posted!
Always love your videos! Is 1,610 ug/L (1.6 mg/L) too much iron to have in my well water to use for aquaponics? Just bought a new place and got well report.
Hello guys, I see that on the newer videos you are using hydroponics system instead of aquaponics. In your opinion, what system is more economic viable? Great work by the way, you have progressed a lot since 2013. :)
Hi +MrJohnnation - Thanks! It's been fun! The more growers we help, the bigger our company gets and the more we can help growers. It's a nice cycle. So "economically viable" is a bit of a loaded question. It might actually be the wrong question all together because of course the answer is "it depends". What does your market want? Do they want/care about the fish part? How much experience do you have with either? How much time do you have to learn the ropes? There are a lot of questions that must be answered but in general, hydro is much simpler and easy for people to get started in which is why recommend it as an aspiring commercial grower's first system. The learning curve is much less steep and you're only worrying about plants, instead of trying to balance plants and fish (i.e. automatically doubling your complexity.) However, that's not to say there isn't a market for aquaponics, but that question requires one to examine not only what their goals and they are capable of, but also the needs of their markets. Too many variables to say one way or another without knowing more about the individual grower!
Thank you for all of your videos they are very helpful. Can you recommend a product that will provide the needed micronutrients for a aquaponics system. Will it harm the system to use hydroponic nutrients?
Hello, it's okay, my name is Ricardo. I'm from Brazil. I have an aquaponic system. I'd like to know how you fertilize plants. could you answer me in writing. I always watch your videos are very good.
I haven't used in in AP systems, and don't have the label handy. I usually shy away from telling folks to supplement AP systems with hydro fertilizers meant for pure hydro systems. It's a great solution in conventional hydro though.
Because the fish don't offer the micronutrients due to the food they are fed. The macronutrients are fairly well represented from the fish waste, provided a proper bioreactor system is working. Otherwise you would be buying fertilizer on a regular basis to feed the plants. In liquid form it is expensive to ship, and powdered form requires careful measuring and mixing. And as Dr Nate described keeping the right balance is critical for availability and uptake into the plants. Just like pH, it all has to balance. You are providing an environment for several life forms: Fish, two bacterias, and plants.
Plan on watching hundreds of videos to get an understanding. I've watched for 3 years, and just starting to build. Search aquaponics on YT, find the system style that seems to fit your needs and then study. Dr Storey has a PHD in this, so don't expect to glean it over in one night and get started. :-)
Hi Julian, I'm actually getting ready to publish a few intensive papers on our website's store (zipgrow DOT com). For right now you may want to look into our Vertical Food Blog!
Nate~ great stuff...u speak about plant needed nutrients..got that~ where we as humans get our 60-70 minerals needed for optimum health if a plant only has 16 minerals? What can we add to this system to achieve the best plant life for human consumption that will feed our cells?? As I want to do this on a big scale but in a first class manner....colloidal mineral supplementation? or some other way? Bruce
As always, all of us here at AgHub love your content! Have you seen any of the stuff from fellow partner Rob from Bigelow Brook Farms (web4deb)? He has an Aquaponic Geodesic Dome Greenhouse. And it's AWESOME.
I'm part of a start up company that provides curricular courses for online classes certified and designed by PhD professors around the world. I really wish we could get all your instructional videos like these, combined with the hands on videos when you work out in the garden as labs; we can get to start collecting royalties and reaching a broader field of watchers who have horticulture targeted as their future profession. ~ Marc Don UC. Hey everyone, the best results that i've ever had was with the Keiths Ponics Site (just google it) definately the most helpful info that I have ever followed.
There are several components to studying aquaponics. One resource I discovered that successfully combines these is the Keiths Ponics Site (check it out on google) without a doubt the most incredible course that I've seen. look at this awesome resource.

Thanks for the nice feedback! We're excited to publish this series of videos.
love your videos. I bored with all the update and how to build videos. I always think I know it all, but then you post another video. Thanks. Please keep schooling us
Thanks for the great information as always. Every gardener should watch your videos even if they do not grow in Aquaponics.
You're welcome, Michael - Glad you're enjoying them.
I'm just getting started on my small home barrel aquaponic system and want to thank you for these videos.
Thank you for starting a new chapter. I have lot of questions regarding the subject. Looking forward for more.
Very informative intro. Can't wait for the follow-up vids. Can't thank you enough.
You're welcome, Pete. Best of luck in your aquaponics ventures!
Yes, Rob's a good friend of ours. He's pretty awesome- one of the only truly off-grid AP folks out there. . .
Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge Nate. I look forward to this series. This is my second summer season with my system and it frustrated me a lot this year. I think nutrients is most likely the reason. Many good thing to you and Bright Agrotech.
Great stuff, can't wait to learn more about nutrients.
I really appreciate your videos, but this series is really exactly what I need. Thanks!
I'm glad we could help Randall.
Great intro Nate.. you're a gifted teacher. thank you

Hi David, that's awesome. You'll have to keep us updated on how they perform for you!
Great explanation of the elements.
Glad to hear it, Ray.

Hi Just started to build a aguaphonic system.
Hope to see more useful information Thanks
Thanks James. We'll keep at it.
Can't wait to read it Doc!
Thank you! We'll keep the nutrient videos coming - lots more to go!
Thanks! Super helpful.
Glad to hear it! Be sure to subscribe if you didn't already.
We'll do our best to get you good info in the coming weeks!
Great video :) was thinking of getting some fish and was concerned about the nutrients vs fish system
Small amounts of Epsom salts can be used to supplement Mg in Mg deficient systems- just be wise about dosing. More on this to come in future videos!
Excellent information!
Glad to hear it!
GRATITUDE 💥🐟🐟💥
Thanks! Will do.
We're looking forward to the series too!
Keep up the good work!
Great post more videos on nutrients overload
You're quite welcome!
You bet, Rob. We hope to get some quality info out there to help you guys out!
Always love your videos!

I found out i didnt have any magnisium in my fish food! So super interested if there is something more to add then liquid seaweed and iron. / John
Is it possible in an aquaponic system to use circular nutrients supply system of hydroponic instead of grow bed?
Thanks for doing these videos. Not enough science being taught about aquaponics.
hi Dr Nate..can u discuss importance or non importance of measuring Electrical Conductivity EC in aquaponics...
Is it the case that H-O-C, N-P-K, and Mg-S-Ca serve similar purposes but at different levels within the plants system?
Thank you! Much appreciated.
Yeah nice vid! I just built a new led light but it totaly fried my plants! After some research

Can these nutrients (or some of them) be provided through rocks in a home unit grow bed? Btw thank you for all the videos :) They are very helpful!
what is the ideal phosphorus mg/L in aquaponic?
Thanks, Russ!
ha ha, we'll try to keep it going in the next few videos then!
Hi Hello, please help me by researching the greenhouse system
Hi Dr. Nate, I'd like to know if is good to use the Flora Series from General Hydroponics into the Aquaponic system in small amount? Thank you
I haven't used in in AP systems, and don't have the label handy. I usually shy away from telling folks to supplement AP systems with hydro fertilizers meant for pure hydro systems. It's a great solution in conventional hydro though.
Thanks... I tried to use in ratio 1/4 to 1/8 and I got spikes in Ammonia levels too high. So it was not good! :/
Good to know
Sir in aquaponics, plant raises from fish waste, then why we need extra nutrients npk like in hydroponics?
Because the fish don't offer the micronutrients due to the food they are fed. The macronutrients are fairly well represented from the fish waste, provided a proper bioreactor system is working. Thank you.
thank you so much
Do different fish have different nutrient content in their poop? I have minnows and goldfish lol.
Thanks for this vid
Happy to help, PHILIP PACHO
thank you!! you seem to be the only one that has done a vid on this? :0)
+WhatAmI “TheKingdomeWithin” IsItInMe Happy to help!
Aquaponics comes from aquaculture and the basic explanation for it is using fish to grow plants.
Thank you
i want to start a fill and drain system with fish. i want to know how to add nutrients without hurting the fish.
Jr M I’m wondering the same thing
If your adding nutrients your doing it wrong! #pretenders
You should seen it when the sun was high and hot in the sky!
can't see the board
please post an update :)
Symbol Cp is for what? you had that in the video....last of micro-nutrients????
It's Chloride. It's not a "P", it's a small "l" and a dash. He says it at 5:04
You didn’t tell us how to manage those nutrients, you only listed the nutrients required by the plants to grow
bud, he clearly states that this will be a series of videos.
