    Kung Fu is divided into external(Wai Jia) and Internal(Nei Jia):
    External:Known as Tough still. Stills of Shaolin: Tang Lang, Cha Quan, Wu Ching, Li Gar. They are usualy named on animals, places or familiy that was popular on that still.
    Internal:Known as soft still.Most popular are Tai Chi Chuan, Bagua Zang, Xing Yi Quan. Most popular to philosopher ideas, combat values.
    Two more types are based on geographic differences:Northern ann Southern.
    Northern: uses long, low positions, more techniques with legs, something like Tae Kwon Do.
    Southern:Uses High positions, focus is on the speed, techinques with arms. Like Wing Chun.
    If u ever watched the movie Ip Man 1,2 with Donnie Yen, u will understand the Southern And Internal.

      i've always felt that way about excersize and meditation, that there are ways to make yourself healthy, live longer and stay younger, become resistant and at times immune even to diseases that are harmful and incurable for most. and that you have to find out what those ways are, but 1st look inside, because since animated living things are spirits, that what is happening inside our souls holds most of the answers to lifes problems, for instance a lot of people are worried about flu and ebola, and cancer, while i worry more about things i see, hear, smell and feel, for instance, i know how crazy this sounds, somehow my bioelectricity is being conducted to power homes and business. i know at 1st i think its just coincidence until i read the patterns of how say if the electricity in my body spikes up, my fridge or boiler will running at higher capacity at the same time and vise versa, i end up connecting from them too, is there some sort of generator that conducts electricity from people daily. must be part of some clean reusable energy project, like a generator that can conduct electricity from the vibrations of millions of people walking, it really adds up at the end.

    I've seen many Indians here notoriously claiming that kung fu was invented by an Indian Buddhist monk Bodhidharma. With all due respects, Bodhidharma was not the creator of Chinese martial arts, however he was greatly respected in China and Sinosphere areas for his monumental contribution in the spread of Zen Buddhism. Due to his closed association with the Shaolin temple, people thought he was the founder but that legend has been heavily disproved by many scholars. Historical research shows that long before and after his arrival at Shaolin, the temple was in fact a refuge for military personnel. There is also an archaeological evidence of Chinese martial arts dated back to at least 2500 BC and how they were used in a military and self-defence.
    Bodhidharma arrived in China in the early 5th century AD. It would be accurate to hypothesize that he had influenced the following development of Chinese martial arts e.g. proper meditation, spiritual balance, etc.
    By saying Bodhidharma created Chinese martial arts or Shaolin Kung Fu is like saying Hakka people (who are known for their culinary skills) migrated from China to India long ago and invented curry...

      RiDDlE A little info is a dangerous sin, western people are jealous of India, just like chinese people had some form of martial art Indians too had martial art system in north and south India, Bodhi Dharma went to china as a buddhist monk from South India and he spread buddhism and taught his martial skills (which he did not invent) to the new buddhist disciples and it is very well documented in the history of Shaolin monastery , the system of Louhan kungfu is an example. The chinese too developed it further but you can't discredit Bodhi Dharma . Know truth and come to India and learn the ancient martial art called Kalaripayattu and discover some similarities to Shaolin kungfu !

    The training methods, (although not necessarily the passive rehearsed forms), of traditional Shaolin Kung Fu are just as valid now, as they were in the distant past IMHO. Flexibility, strength, conditioning, balance, coordination, speed, precision, power, etc., are valid in all martial art systems. True Shaolin Buddhist monks avoid fighting, but are capable of amazing feats of acrobatics, endurance, power, agility, etc.. Hence, by definition, if they don't fight, how can anyone criticise the combat efficacy of their arts? It is only conjecture and personal opinion, to judge either way.
    The majority of Shaolin Kung Fu has become theatrical and flowery (i.e. Wu Shu), in recent years. Hence, losing some of its martial effectiveness IMHO. Good Kung Fu always contains economical motion, extraordinary speed and directness. Comprising of lethal strikes, Shuai Jiao and Chin Na. This may be a contentious statement, but if you can break thick pieces of stone with your hands, feet, knees, elbows, head, etc., are very fast, direct, mobile, flexible, strong, resilient, acrobatic and accurate, then anyone would be a fool to underestimate opponents with those attributes e.g. fatal strikes to throat, temple, heart, etc.. The dilemma is, the fundamental training methods of Shaolin take a very long time to master and from beginners to modern day professional fighters (i.e. MMA), everyone wants immediate combat effectiveness. Therefore, they are not inclined to spend years in the former training.
    Personally, the only Chinese martial arts i practise now are, Sanda/Sanshou, in conjuction with the traditional Shaolin training methods i.e. Qian Chen Zhi, Da Mu Ren, Ti Mu Zhuang, Yi Zhi Jingang, etc., some Shuai Jiao and Chin Na. Sanda has been pressure tested via constant sparring/competition and is probably the most practical version of Shaolin Kung Fu, for unarmed 'stand-up' self defence IMHO. Chinese special forces units also train in Military Sanshou (i.e. Jūnshì Sǎndǎ), so that would indicate 'unarmed combat effectiveness' in battlefield conditions. If the system didn't work, it would obviously be discarded. It's a pragmatic compromise, given that there is no empirical evidence of traditional Shaolin Kung Fu combat effectiveness i.e. the premise that 21st century real Shaolin monks, due to their Buddhist/Taoist belief system, don't participate in real fights, unless embroiled in self defence situations.

    Traditional martial arts is where "it" all started , I was fighting full contact in the early 80s When "it " All became Modified ,Then went from Kickoxing and muai tai , and K1 and UFC , Etc , Grappling became a part of it and again martial arts changed When I was a kid . We trained true self defense along withtraditional martial arts which is different from sport Karate now , We Practice simple things like pull their front hand down and eye gouge , Neck crank ,Groin kicks , Knee kicks And Strike the diaphram to knock the wind out , Those few basics got me through a wild life , Disarmed a couple people , got out of a few situations with neck crank , Eye gauge , and also got my ass kicked , and this is reality . Stand up striking always went to the ground and still does , its a rarety that it turns out like a Bruce lee movie , and I think all of us from that era had a mislead vision of martial arts , I found football players can take a heck of a hit and keep coming in and tackle you , Then I was on My back .I found that in a way . This type of Martial arts is useless against a tough attacker like a football or rugby player . An occasional win for me in a street fight has been simply , Knocked the wind out of them with a kick , However , People do not just take it like the movies , They grab your leg and try to throw you down . SOOOO Martial arts is a good sport and great to practice for your excorcise and well being .But don't takeit all to seriously

    I'm an all rounder martial art trainee... I fight it depends on my enemy foot stances but if they don't know how to do a stance well then I'm lucky to beat him up to the ground easily... I change stance depends on my enemy style... I use Muay thai, Boxing leaning with counter, Kungfu hand waist position and stances, karate stance, sometimes muay thai for getting ready then if the enemy attack witha right job then boxing lean left along with counter right punch while left hand putted at waist like kung fu while bow stance then execute left hand straight punch right ribs lower bow stance change to low stance from left to right then bow stance block right hand using kung fu from the waist up to the head don't forget to grab it after punching him again to the ribs, grab his hand then bring him to the ground like a cop arresting a criminal perform must fast and it depends if the enemy punches you the ledt or right of his hand... Since in my hometown there's a rule in a fight to settle things up which is no kicking but punch only since they didn't mention only use boxing 😆 I can use any form of martial arts

    Typical how people are always fighting over whether this is effective or not. Personally, I do believe it can be effective if you train long and hard and continuously test your fighting/combat skills. I bet most people here who claim to have fought have never even thrown one punch. Bottom line: if you have never tried this (by training or in combat situations) then shut the fuck up and see what you can learn. Do some research peoples.

    I like it when people look down upon the traditional martial arts. Thay way only the dedicated few gravitate towards these arts (be it Shaolin or Wudang), while the rest can join MMA classes & compete.
    Sorry to say but without the inculcation of martial ethics in the students, all they become are bullies with superior set of skills than a layman.
    Hence, I prefer traditional arts which focus on healing & humility, alongwith physical training.

      They only want to beat people in 'real street fight'... They don't care about philosophy, humility, mind/body control, focusing... That's why. But every martial art can be effective. It depends on the practitioner, not the style.

    Useless in a fight? Please. Train harder. Much respect to Shi De Cheng. This is real, people. He has slowed it down considerably to help us see the details. Respect yourself. Learn how.

      +Ady P I gather you studied the traditional okinawan goju ryu. same goes with uechi ryu with their nukite. They ram the fingers through boards so eventually in a fight they can use it on someone's throat/eyeballs which is way more. softer.

      @tedbert2836 7 лет назад +3

      James, boxing would be your best bet if that's what you are looking for. Kung Fu is pretty much useless in a fight. It looks fancy, but it's not that effective. Boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu are the best styles/techniques to learn for MMA. If it is just to develop speed, accuracy, and power then go with boxing

    • @dwsh25
      @dwsh25 7 лет назад +3

      mma boxing etc have rules..... for these kungfu they fight best with no rules..... they aim for the throat etc for max damages which will kill.... they train their chi to withstand impact which in a fight the judges may say u lose

    • @tedbert2836
      @tedbert2836 7 лет назад +3

      Derek Wong , so then Kung Fu fighters can't win unless they allow killing? That shows how weak it is in a fight. MMA fighters know the same killing movies, but they can still fight without using them.
      "they train their chi to withstand impact"
      Why do many of you people think chi is real?

    Good thing I can figure out how to place the hands when it's reverse, but they should really add a reverse view during when he turns away from the camera.
