Having the ability to pre-set brush sizes of any given brush and quickly select them is a real game changer; incredibly helpful while either drawing or painting.

@@ghostpaper Consider that a compliment of sorts :D Now, if only they could stop the app from crashing all the time on 5000 x 4000 canvas with all layers.I dunno about you but mine has been going nuts recently and I have to shut off a bunch of layers I'm not needing to continue. I am aware of creating duplicates to get around layer limits but the way I see it, I shouldn't have to, as I can work with 22 layers at the moment. I'm using the 3rd gen iPad pro.

Yeah I’ve just kept duplicates of the same brush in different sizes to keep things consistent… this update will make it much easier!
As a children's book illustrator, I rely on Procreate to complete most of my work. I cannot wait for these new updates!

I’m beta testing, the new pages feature is going to really be handy for book & comic illustrators. Atm I’ve been playing mostly with the 3D features, which is the big focus of this build…but there’s a lot of other really nice additions that I can’t wait really check out.

This review was actually much better than the official video from Procreate's RUclips channel that speaks on version 5.2. Their video seemingly put the overwhelming focus on the 3D and barely any focus on the 2D additions and upgrades. It was way too casual/informal in feel and, as a result, that made the video drag.
Your video was formal and straight to the point and while you did have a good bit of focus on the 3D side (not in a bad way), you didn't rush through the 2D portion and act as if it was an aside. Thumbs up.

I agree I have the beta as well and thought of doing a couple show and tells about the new features, but your explanation was top notch and to the point. Love this update, my only gripe was them not doing more brush category organization. Still, super great update.
I have to say, between Nomad Sculpt and Procreate I'm getting very impressed with the iPad's capabilities as a serious art tool. The problem with using say Zbrush or Substance Painter on a Surface Pro is that the interface just isn't really designed with a keyboard-less tablet in mind--they're designed with desktops in mind. So although you get all the powerful features, the experience isn't too great. But on the iPad, the apps are being designed from the ground up with pure tablet interface in mind from the beginning, so the experience is much better and streamlined overall, even though in some cases they might be lacking certain features compared to the desktop software.
You can just use bluetooth keyboard and your workflow will improve immensely

holy crap. i love how simple , quick and informative this is... i have watched quite a few videos and though they are great in a sense...they make me feel like "this is the display...so im gonna read the flamboyant settings added" and idk how practical they are unless i personally touch them... this is a great video.

I'm a 3D artist but the 3D painting isn't quite enough yet to be useful for anything more than just playing around. Because of this I've been more interested in the 2D features but there's been so much features on the 3D stuff it's been tough. So thank you for the concise and informative video
I don't have much use for the 3D aspects but the other improvements are great! Wonderful video, got the new version today and am looking forward to playing with it!

Can’t wait for the new brush size setting
These are great updates but procreate is still missing basic features which makes procreate workflow so destructive-particularly, layer groups!!! No blending modes for groups, no clipping groups, no changing opacity for groups, no referencing groups, no referencing multiple layers at all. I like to keep different colors, shading, and lighting in all different layers but procreate forces me to merge all the color layers so i can even use blending modes. Procreate is an amazing program but why are they ignoring such a basic feature that almost all other art programs have?
In their next update (after 5.2) they say they will be addressing improving the app rather than adding new features. So hopefully some of those will be addressed then.
Plus, adjustment layers. Right now the only way to add adjustments is by flattening the layers.
U can create layer groups already.
Yes!!!! We need more love for group layers please. Like group masks.

Can't wait for this new version of Procreate. For me, the biggest improvement is the the increase in new number of layers, because it is currently a real limitation. 3D is cherry on the cake, but since don't know what 3D models we will be able to use, I am not sure yet whether I will use it much.

Ive never had this problem w procreate. Maybe ur canvas is too small? Or are u talking about something else
I’m not sure what your referring to, Procreate hasn’t had a 3D space until this new build. What objects are you referring to? If your meaning 2D selections, I haven’t had an issue or seen it mentioned anywhere. It may be as mentioned your interpolation may be the issue.
agree, when cutting something and rotating, the edges get blurry or lose their sharp edges. I also don't know how to fix this
@@andysarno1 you just have to change the interpolation method off of "nearest" to one of the others during the transformation. bilinear works best imo, but there's times when you'd want to use bicubic. by leaving it on "nearest" you're telling it to pick the nearest pixel rather than allowing it to cut through them like the lines do when you're drawing.

But there is a gradient tool; under the Adjustments icon; I’m not familiar enough with how it works, but that’s where I found it.

@@HalfWarrior Yeah but that's not the type I was hoping for. You know, the gradient tool like what we see in other softwares like Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, etc...
You can technically make gradients with magic tool fill + Feather
I really want it to have brush history feature. Sometimes I don’t remember which brush I used for certain areas. I don’t know how to check which brush for which part of drawing after artwork done.

sometimes I use a guide layer for that, it's the topmost layer where I store all the colors and brush names where I use them.
@@zaxele oh. Pls can you explain more on this ? How did you create guide layer with brush and color ?
@@manisha-colorcreativityartwork for example, if I have a drawing on a layer and I want to remember the different brushes when I drew it, I'll make a "guide" layer above it (rename the layer to Guide or something) and draw lines of these brushes on this "guide" layer, in the exact same place where I used them below, and note down the brush name next to those lines.
To create and name a brush, I swipe left on a brush, choose Duplicate, then tap the new brush to edit, then tap the name to rename it. If I use a default brush then I just write down its library name.
For colors I just use the color picker tool.

Would be nice if the top menu bar was customisable to put things like Liquify and fav brushes there. Also would be nice to see improvements in the brush engine. It’s good now, but more things are possible, like better ways of paint mixing that’s more natural to what happens when you mix colors in real world. Some desktop software has watercolour modes, would like to see that here too.

Do you have to use an apple pen to paint on the 3D models? I’ve been trying to paint the guitar and it just keeps moving the model around even though I have the paint brush selected :/

This is amazing news! Does it paint across UV islands and seams too? I'm assuming it will import existing UVs along with the models? I have the 2020 12.9inch iPad Pro, this is my first apple product, and I've been nervous about updating it to ios 15 in case it slows things down as I love love love it so much!
15 might slow down some of the very earliest supported models, but you won’t notice anything different as your pro is still very much current.

What is the storage capacity of your M1 iPad?
The reason I ask is that if you have the 512GB model or lower then your RAM (memory) is 8GB, while if you have 1TB or higher then your RAM (memory) is 16GB. This directly effects the amount of layers that can be achieved.
Mine is the M1 with 1TB - I’m curious to see if there will be a difference with the 512MB models or if Procreate hasn’t yet being able to reach into this second slot of 8GB Ram (Apple OS was holding them back)

Does anyone know if nomad sculpt has some simple meshing and unwrap tools so that you could have some simple 3d workflow all on the iPad? I know it will not be game and production ready, but would be cool to use for quickly adding some colors for some concept models and then over paint in the 2D paint. If that makes sense. 😁

In regards to the new page assist/pages. Are we to assume (judging from the quick demo seen in this video), that despite having "pages", everything is still technically on "one" canvas? Not that each new page is a "new canvas"?
This is correct Robin - as understand they are all pages of the same canvas - like layer groups that you can turn on and off for each page- but exported easier with one click rather than hiding and showing each page and then export like in Procreate 5x

I'm curious to see what we can do for 3D/2D art in the future. I want to see procreate expand this mode to have drawing similar to greasepencil or mentalcanvas. Like the art Dedouze is making.
