I’d definitely recommend an upgrade to the fuel pump as well. Injectors for certain. This is pretty unique to this platform as well. Most NA engines will not benefit from switching to E. The high compression VQ loves it though.
E85 is an 85% mix of 87 and pure ethanol. It has an octane (knock resistant) rating of 105, which allows the timing to be advanced and an stoichiometric ratio of about 9.8:1 (vs gasoline at 14.7:1). That's why you use more E85 compared to standard gasoline. The fact that ethanol is alcohol means it is oxygenated which is why it burns cooler (that coupled with the richer stoich makes a less hot boom), which allows you to advance timing even further. It's cool stuff.
With e85 becoming more readily available over the last 5 years (was hard to find in some places just a few years back) this is becoming an much more common change to performance vehicles. I second your suggestion-upgraded pump and injectors are definitely necessary.
You can have stock fuel lines with a high ethanol rating, if I’m right, I can upgrade the pump and my injectors and switch to e85 to make better horsepower with a tune.
According to z1 Motorsports The 3.7 Q50's you don't have to change your fuel pump just get injectors and a flex fuel kit The older 3.7's and a 3.5's you're going to have to upgrade the fuel pump
The harm outweighs the benefit. The VQ was not made to run ethanol in mind. Ethanol is highly corrosive The constant use of ethanol will harm the seals and rubber. Of course, this is normal even for F.I, but changing your basic maintenance a lot early, such as spark plugs, oil, etc Your Injectors will get clogged if you use ethanol constantly, so you might have to take them off and get them cleaned. The worst downside is having to run the car until empty (stalls) if you want to switch to normal tune or store car for long periods of time....or simply drop tank and drain whats inside. Also, the car will behave weird without a flex fuel sensor... With an e85 tune, the car will go into limp mode. For using it a couple of times is fine. Just keep in mind that every time you use ethanol, you are killing your engine, but it will take a lot of ethanol
