Crazy that VQ turns 30 this year and I think VHR head turns like 18 (came out in the 2006 G35/350Z). Definitely a lot of potential.... just make sure you find a good engine builder
Thank you for rethinking the vq ‘s better engine better compression . Make way more more and handle it right if you put sleeves and studs in it. And eagle rod and pistons. And lately more and more 3.7 q50 are making a lot of power . Whether supercharged or twin turbo single turbo .
The vq is a good motor my main gripe with it is that the nissan engineers make some silly decisions on it as far as accessories eg internal water pump something that goes out n is a bitch to change, the gallery gaskets made from cheap materials n other cheap parts that will cost u big, the vr on the other hand made major improvements overall they’re both reliable stock
I’m at 219k miles on my 08 g37s coupe original engine and trans. Didn’t have to even touch those and isn’t leaking a drop of oil. At this point, if it fails, I wouldn’t be mad at all. I got my moneys worth and would get that maintenance done and drive it another 200k
vr30 didnt make any major improvements. the vr38 made huge improvements. the vr38 and vq35hr and vq37vhr use the same aisin water pump btw lol. dont go out on boosted vq nor built 1500whp+ vr38
Dude water pumps and gallery gaskets is easy work on compared to vr30 turbos and engine regularly, plus the VR share NOTHING and I mean NOTHING in common with the VQ & VR38 which actually shares a lot with each other
Im about to get a cammed 6th gen Camaro, but I honestly bittersweet about leaving the VQ behind. Really great cars! I wish I just had the money to do it lmao

I’m inspired I would love to do a single big turbo, twin turbo or supercharge built for my G37x I feel I may go supercharge or pro charger for cost n reliability smh I gotta get my money up
We built my homies 370z on a single turbo top mount. Went through two motors. Conservative boost with a good tune is key. We did it back in 2015 -17 so I’m sure there are a lot better ways to do it.

The gallery gasket isn’t a problem on the 14+ q50

@joeblowig yeah I picked it up, stage 2 cam and btr valves n springs with a warranty lmao. I couldn't pass it up for $27k. Motor was just rebuilt too
