There is an overriding clutch in the transfer case, that kicks the front axle in. Remove axle front driveshaft and the front housing off the transfer case simply clean the clutch the front axle will engage fine again.
@@macbook802 wrong as a person who plows drive the front axel provides a great amount of traction when getting unstuck if that front axel was engauged it may have been able to pull its self out
@@thebad300 I drive in the mud loaded with rocks and I never have front wheel drive and sometimes I don’t even get the luxury of being able to lock all of the duals. I’ve been stuck but never more than a few inches in a long time. Over the course of about 17 years I’ve been stuck 5 times and have been able to fix it with a Ford or a shovel
We just put in a road for a house site with 2 springs running under the road bed. Ended up building the road with surge (6 inch) before a truck would stand up on it. Wish all the creek rock wasn't gone. That worked better than anything and the smaller stuff bonded up with the large and made a smooth surface. Fix the 5-ton.
I feel your pain. This is about what my week has been after I busted 4WD on my plow truck. With bald tires and a plow on the front with no 4WD I was getting stuck on flat ground (ice).
Dieselman8v92 actually hit on some of the problem when he said the word, 'tired',...that's what the AM General needs, good mud gripping tires,...Well, that mud would almost stick a tank, I'm thinking.
Finally a comment from someone that doesn't know everything, thanks. Like different tires, really, you could put any tires it wouldn't make a difference with that soup.
What's wrong with the 6x6 is it broken both that it would've gotten it out of there but it probably would've helped haha. Don't worry we got about 70 inches of snow in the last 3 weeks all I've been doing is getting one tons unstuck Bobcats unstuck and our occasional backhoe pullout to so I know how it feels haha
The bugger here is that you are pulling up; fighting against gravity as well, and mud having a kind of suction to it... Pulling level and you would've just fought against friction...
the 6x6 isn't working , the front axle wasn't even pulling(that was only part of the problem I'm sure). maybe ya coulda used some tire chains(ha ha).that stuff looked pretty sloppy not much left there for traction.
Is the t-case messed up? Doesn't look like the front axle is pulling. Lockers would help too. Have a M925A1 and some xmls sitting in the barn just need a dumpbed.
Wow, it was in there pretty good! How much did you lower the tire pressure? those super singles can go down pretty far, and that will help with traction. They actually sell manual locking hubs for the rockwell axles, its a good way to by pass that air/lever lock. (I assume thats what went wrong with the front end?
That's a weird looking Mercedes. Also, if you're not gonna put additional wheels on it, to have double wheels in the rear, at least put some chains around them before you dive there.
Sorry to make a comment about being slow in the head, but dump the rock and lighten the truck up and it would come right out with a little help. I have done and done the same thing over and over before, and where the rock is dumped, it will be needed to firm up that soft spot anyway. My God and this guy who goes by let's dig or something speaks like he's a pro, but so very far from it.
justfakeit888 I'm not saying the truck is junk, but it has been aggressively used and abused at times. With some love it could be a better truck but depending on how much they use a haul truck off-road it may just be better to get an actual off road dump truck.
just so everyone knows. how they hooked up that chain is super risky. if you were to do this on a regular pickup you run the risk of folding your frame in since there is pressure pulling the two points together and truck frames are not made to resist that type of pressure
DISASTER --------TO MUCH WEIGHT AND BAD DRIVING NON WORKING FRONT DRIVE ----IT IS OWNLY A FIVE TON TRUCK ----FIX FRONT DRIVE DONT LOAD TO HEAVY AND STAY OUT BAD PLACES------ IT CAN MOVE THE ROCK----I LOVE IT .
Maybe you will learn that you never try and pull any loaded truck out like that. That’s a great way to completely break something on the truck itself. And for what? The loss of a cheap load of rock??? Stupid.

Front axle engagement is the least of their worries

Time to call Ron Pratt!
Bummer. What a cool looking old truck, though.
I'm sorry for laughing so hard about the buried tailgate...
Whoa... Now that's SERIOUS mud! Glad you were able to finally get it unstuck!!!
What a fine mess you have gotten us into this time Ollie. Some serious sucky mucky mucky mud there Chris. Good job though.
Mama always said there would be days like this. It's never any fun when you get equipment that size stuck.

Damn, I swear I could see that chain stretchin'! It seemed heavy enough, but still made my ass hairs draw in!☺
That was awesome guys, now that is on the job action videos. Thanks...
That sink hole looks like a good place for the load of rock. maybe 10 more loads and you will have the sink hole full of rock. :-)
Or democratic voters, hahahaha.
I had to laugh when that popped up in the suggestions after hearing you talk about this truck on the podcast with Mike.
Chris, another great video of what you encounter in your job! Thanks for the great video!
Kurt
I love seeing the old general in your videos. If you wanted to sell it govliquidation has newer ones that probably won't break the budget.
you can find new ones for like 8 grand
Atvsrawsome I believe it. They practically give away stuff on there.
Sure do haha buy a fire truck for like 10 grand too
Atvsrawsome haha. Ive seeb those on there and helicopters. Lol
Fix the 6x6 and get better tires!
Anywhere from 1200×,1400×,and 1600× are the best Tires on Off-Road for a Military Truck.
it can still get stuck
Chain truck to counterweight. Sink frost ripper. Pull with arm and tracks simultaneously.
Really only helpful if tracks are otherwise spinning.
looks like a good place for some ballest anyways

if you were looking for a clay mine ... you're getting warm
Sounds like you need to invest in a bigger Dumptruck with 2 more axles to spread out the load. I've seen M1070 8x8 HETTS converted to dumptrucks.

Sitting here watching this like ,Aw man hope that doesn't rip the front end off!
The trails a little soupy! Wonder how much if any the front drives would have helped? Interested in the repair if you work on it. Cool rig! 👍
My kid loved this
Payload was too much for it, sometimes that happens!👀😞
Love how there are tons of comments about the front drive but you said it broke in the video
they all get stuck, dont matter what tires you run....
Good tires and 4x4 doesn't mean you won't get stuck. It just means you'll get stuck farther and deeper
Lol, that looked like me taking a sliver out of my finger.... nice video

Attention owner of dump truck: fix the frontend.
the load was heavy now he's got room for the tailgate in the bed its a win win
Crazy how this company grew in the last few years
Looks like you could use a lot more of that rip rap to make that road more passable for the truck(s)?
Needed some bobby Goodson power
Time for the swamp pads and spreadin' some rock :-)
Thanks for getting video of this.
Is the t-case messed up? Doesn't look like the front axle is pulling. Lockers would help too. Have a M925A1 and some xmls sitting in the barn just need a dumpbed.
Wouldn’t it be smart to unload the cement debris out of the back of the truck since that’s what’s keeping you from pulling it out of the woods
I was watching and wondering why they didn't engage the front axle... time for a little repair.
Could be worse though. Like a 18yd end dump trailer that can't be dumped without rolling it on hwy traffic. I've seen it.
great video Chris and ya sometimes ya get stuck big time LOL
The curse of the open differential
Those rocks will fortify the road, add some traction.
Why you tyrna pull it out without drive to the truck ??, that's the best way to pull the bumper clean off !!
You can’t pull that bumper off, those pintles are bolted to the truck frame. These are used to air lift the truck.
Nice job

How about dumping the load first and then trying .... then reload it?
Why is the 6 wheel drive broke ?
Did you try and drop the clutch when the excavator was pulling the truck? It might work.
Are you thinking of replacing the general anytime soon?
Not a whole lot of fun getting stuck like that, did you manage to get the gate back in half way decent shape?
Why aren't the truck wheels spinning?
Looks like fun!
The 6x6 doesn't work on it? Noticed the pumpkin on the front axle...
That's a weird looking Mercedes. Also, if you're not gonna put additional wheels on it, to have double wheels in the rear, at least put some chains around them before you dive there.
IT IS A AM GENERAL ARMY FIVE TON DUMP TRUCK MADE BY AMRERICAN MOTORS GENERAL
nice truck...
uhmmm that don't look like no dosser.....that looks like a excavator :)
gotta fix that front diff locker
the only down fall to the 800 series trucks were the sprag transfer case....
David Anders what is that 813
Does an excavator have more force pushing or pulling with its arm?
The same, for all intents and purposes.
But pulling with both the boom and the bucket curl is stronger than pushing. Research breakout power.
Need to use your bucket to pull truck out it has more pressure than any thing on exavator
wheres your winch at on the dump truck?
That digger is around 20 ton should be able to pull that lorry easily
how long did it take you to get it out?
does that got the airshift transfercase of the sprag type?
2:00 Are the painted rings around the tree no trespassing symbols?
I would not want to be any wheres near that chain if it let go !
did he release the brakes?
Time 2 call Ron Pratt
hahahahahaha funny video at the end
DUH dump duh rock. DUH
doe's that truck have Diff lock/6 wheel drive
yes but its not working
matthew church So pushing on the gas to help isnt a option at this point... really.
James Roe You can see the back wheel spinning.
JohntechFL No you caint, he was filming on the wrong side! :(
That IS some gooey mud!
Is the truck in 6 wheel drive

I, in your place i would stop right now!
Heavens to Betsy!! lol
Chris you really need an actual off road dump truck. Or a new AM General, this looks a bit tired.
The hell are you talking about? It was in great shape when he got it, that was only about 3 years ago.
justfakeit888 I'm not saying the truck is junk, but it has been aggressively used and abused at times. With some love it could be a better truck but depending on how much they use a haul truck off-road it may just be better to get an actual off road dump truck.
I think that you would be hard pressed to find a better dump than that am general. What would you recommend?
justfakeit888 I would recommend a new Volvo 25 ton.... but I don't think that's in the budget :(
Yah that would be sweet. But if not maybe just fix the 6x6 and get some wider tires if they fit.
just so everyone knows. how they hooked up that chain is super risky. if you were to do this on a regular pickup you run the risk of folding your frame in since there is pressure pulling the two points together and truck frames are not made to resist that type of pressure
most of those have a front diff lock to engage and disengage it's on the dash
6wd didnt work I can see why you guys got a rock truck.
Thank you.
You need a 220 for that or dump the rock
sinkhole?
Hi must mist the buildin road😏😏.. com and drive herr in the northen Europa....
Why not put the truck in awd
DISASTER --------TO MUCH WEIGHT AND BAD DRIVING NON WORKING FRONT DRIVE ----IT IS OWNLY A FIVE TON TRUCK ----FIX FRONT DRIVE DONT LOAD TO HEAVY AND STAY OUT BAD PLACES------ IT CAN MOVE THE ROCK----I LOVE IT .
front wheel drive was not working !!!
Why the hell would you film on that side?
Поставь родные колеса задние! Двухскатные, эти же узкие режут грунт. А вообще сказать ты ездить не умеешь! Техника то хорошая
Bummer !
I dont understand why your not helping with the truck. Way your doing it your just trying to pull dead weight.
Maybe you will learn that you never try and pull any loaded truck out like that. That’s a great way to completely break something on the truck itself. And for what? The loss of a cheap load of rock??? Stupid.
Not ideal working conditions.
Is she still for sale?
Gezzzzzz
In this video, you can see that this problem can only be solved by a Volvo and a good operator 🙋😊
Link Belt vlog update......☺
front wheeldrive is not working
