Just purchased this book! Was not aware that it was out but I have grown to love Rupert and his teachings, so I am excited to have made the order! Stay safe and healthy everyone! Sending love and good vibes from New Hampshire!
today that everyone is becoming a non dual teacher in a sense is very good because they are on the path and mpre people may hear the message, but it gets a lot diluited and most teachers fall into confusion, when they think ok i realized there is no person bam it's done i'm enlighten, which is just only another tought,in this ambient people like Rupert keep shining the real light with their experiential clarity so i profoundly thank you for your service, may we all realize what we really are, many many blessings.
You point out a real problem in the nonduality teaching community, one that Rupert has commented on numerous times. It is tempting (to the ego) to start teaching as soon as one has learned this life philosophy intellectually and has had one or two unusual experiences. Mariana Caplan writes about this in her book, "HALFWAY UP THE MOUNTAIN; the Error of Premature Claims to Enlightenment". Dennis Waite has also raised this issue. The living teachers of nonduality I recommend as reliable and clear are Rupert, Mooji, and Swami Sarvapriyananda.
Beautiful. Truth is beauty and this is true. I had a revelation last night while I started to listen to this. It's something I've always known and seen before in my years of spiritual interest but somehow it was really seen in a deeper way: Whatever is feeling this anxiety and grasping for the next temporary pleasure or distraction, this is NOT ME. Wow. We hear that a lot but when you actually see it.... How can I suffer? That which feels is seen by that which only sees. And that which only sees and remains unseen is closed to "I" than anything that is seen. . I'm remaining humble of course because I'm sure this will be put to the test and I don't feel so confident yet that I will always remember or believe that I am not the feeler. But still. What a joyous step in the right direction! Every once in a while you just feel that click. Like you've permanently settled deeper into yourself. Rupert, thank you. for 9 years, you've always been among the very best influences on my life.
Listening to you read excerpts from 'Being Myself', makes me wish this book, as well as all your books, were available as audio books, read by you, Rupert. What a gift you are.
A realised soul. God, absolute realm, Tao or ultimate reality embodied in human form. A brilliant torch carrier of the Buddha, Krishnamurti, Ramana Maharshi and Eckhart Tolle combined. Oh re Jack and Jill. I forgot to include the line: To fetch a pail of water (Symbolic of our obsession with objects which veils knowing Reality as it is)
That was wonderful Rupert! However, the "I AM" is the realisation that "I" exist, when I was a baby it was the first thoughtless, formless and wordless feeling/awareness of a realization of my Being. The sense of Being or "I AM" was just a precursor to thoughts leading to a personal life. Before this "I AM" state I was not the "I AM", therefore I was the Absolute No-thing. The Absolute No-thing is God which is beyond (and prior to) the "I AM". This I AM is the sum total of all that I perceive, is time bound and is an illusion. I am not the I AM, I am prior to it, so the secret to immortality is the freedom from the "I AM". It sounds like a paradox, but to obtain the perfect freedom from the illusory "I AM", is to remain AS the "I AM", because once the "I AM" is fully understood, you go beyond it. The "I AM" is the first ignorance, you are before the "I AM" appeared and it's your own personal/inner guru. So stay with this I AM and eventually you transcend it. I’ve heard 🤔: eheyeh should not be translated as "I AM" but rather as "I WILL BE," since the verb form is grammatically "imperfect," that is, expressing ongoing or future action. Moses asked for God's Name, and God then said eheyeh asher eheyeh (אֶהְיֶה אֲשֶׁר אֶהְיֶה), "I AM that I AM" (or "I will be what I will be"), abbreviated simply as eheyeh (אֶהְיֶה), "I AM" (Exod. 3;14). Note that God identifies himself with being itself, since eheyeh is the Qal imperfect form of the verb hayah (הָיָה), meaning "to be." 🌻
In our normal state of duality, where we experience limitations and suffering, our feeling of 'I' is an identification with the separate self, a mental construct representing our history and characteristics as a person. As we traverse the Direct Path described by Rupert, the feeling of 'I' transforms to an identification with our true self, unbounded awareness, the only consciousness that exists. So the meaning of 'I' is structured in consciousness and transforms as we transform, from a constantly-changing individual to the never-changing impersonal pure consciousness, which can be called God. So what you have heard reflects the nonexistence of the separate self, while what Rupert usually refers to is the existence of the true unbounded self. Yes, it is certainly possible to become confused if we are not clear about which level of 'I' we are contemplating.
For people whose minds have not been prepared through the practice of silent meditation, to receive the teachings of emptiness can be dangerous to mental health. Please, people, prepare your brain so these teachings can flourish. Otherwise they can lead to depersonalization or nihilism. It is like running a marathon without training. You can injure yourself. From a concerned well-wisher.
Everythging is already, done. It's enough, does not "need" describe, define, search, objectify, learn, teach what it is indescribable. What is is what is. There's no "my self", no "free will and choice". There's no separation. It's enough.
I want to see a non-dualist say these things who are not in a content situation. For example; a woman living in a slum owned and abused by a pimp and whose 9 year old daughter is being raped and groomed to go into the sex trade. To me, from my observations, all the non-dualists who speak as Rupert does are in content well off places in life. It easy to say such things from such a safe place. The reason I say this is because he states that peace is the natural state of myself, yet I come from the realm of the romantics, the existentialists, who say the opposite. That suffering is the natural state.
Two of the greatest non dual masters (Ramana and Nisargadatta) suffered from cancer and you can read their accounts of it, how it didn't touch them. There have been many such sages in India and I'm sure all across the world who faced atrocities, most of them remain anonymous. The speaking masters are a minority. Usually when faced with difficult situations it is not a priority to discover our true nature, though it doesn't mean the discovery can't take place at all. Suffering is the natural state if you're identified with the body-mind and a limited "I" . The romantics and the existentialists did not go deep enough, so their proclamations make sense.
yea the existentialist were popular many years ago-- YET now ideas and discoveries in Quantum Physics negate the whole worth of existentialism like old bones with no life. You make what is natural- it is NOT something outside of your consciousness- in terms of suffering read the book Night!
Both are our natural states, but I would say that bravery is our natural state over fear. All of the comfort of modern life and illusions of safety cause fear. We have merely delayed death for a while. People ignore death, but it only makes them more afraid when it comes knocking on their door. Only when one KNOWS death is coming, feels the full weight of it on their soul at all times, and has come to terms with it can be truly enlightened. Only then can you truly let go of the attachment to this body and become your true self. This is a kind of death in itself. You have severed yourself from the deluded ego. You have stopped running from the darkness, and you shine your light of awareness into it unflinchingly. People are always running and they do not even realize it. They have deluded themselves. I watch my body decay a little bit each day. I have a little less energy. Something is a little more stiff than it was before. I can feel the stress and fatigue eating me from the inside little-by-little. It's like a little progress bar of death in my mind's eye that I sort of enjoy watching.
There are no natural states or all states are natural, but there are three fundamental states of consciousness which exists; the God-state and the non-God state and the Soul-state. The Soul-state is when the Soul, which exists, awakens. It is pure and powerful and is in total knowing and submission and love to God. It will slowly progress it's way to unity and oneness with God in which it will merge. The God-state is when you are directly conscious and aware of God, you are one with God, connected and togheter with God. In this state, God looks through your eyes (God IS consciousness and awareness), moves the body and puts the ego in it's right place aka under his God's Lordship. The ego loses it's control and will to God. God's Will and Commands cannot be gone against. In this Absolute God-consciousness, you experience Truth, Bliss, Love, Goodness, Will, Intelligence, Power, Knowledge, total liberation from falsehood etc - which all comes from and is part of what God is. The default state, the non-God state, is a state of consciousness where the individual is not conscious and aware of God, he is asleep and ignorant of the existence of God which is the Absolute Truth and Reality.

@@aquietsky Well put. Same for Ramakrishna. He had throat cancer.
