Thanks Anurag! During my practices, I also found myself struggling a lot with quant timing as well. I would make sure you're taking enough practice exams in conjunction with your studies and frequently timing yourself (you have approximately 2 minutes per quant question because you have 62 minutes for 31 total questions). Ask yourself the following questions during your studies: how long am I taking per question on average? Are there specific types of questions that are most time consuming for me and why? Veritas Prep has great videos in their free app that teaches you some key strategies to most accurately answer questions in a timely matter (because honestly, if we had all day to complete the exam, I feel like most people could eventually figure out the answer to the quant questions through trial and error). Hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for this informative video and congrats on your high score. How much did you score in IR And AWA sections. I presume that due to time crunch, you could not prepare much for these sections.👍
Thank you, much appreciated! Good question: I only spent a few hours on IR and AWA (as these do not count towards your overall score out of 800 and while they do matter slightly, these sections are certainly not as important as the Verbal and Quant sections). The scores I got on the final exam were 8 on IR and 6 on AWA; hope this helps and feel free to let me know of any further questions!

I am doing a BSc in Psychology and want to apply to business schools, but only have 2 courses in social science statistics (no other quantitative background besides standard high school stuff). Hey Maya thanks so much for watching! I got my undergrad degree in finance and honestly for me, it’s a bit difficult to tell how much my educational background helped for the quant section. I genuinely think prospective MBA students from all different backgrounds can do well on the GMAT quant section through diligent studying and figuring out the right strategies and shortcuts that would be really helpful in getting the accurate answer quickly (if it’s any consolation, quant was much harder for me than verbal but practicing consistently was the key to rapidly improving my score). Great question: I touched on this in my latest GMAT video about best resources and "runner-ups" and I would definitely try to get your hands on the latest versions of every book, though I wouldn't say it's absolutely necessary, especially if you're on a budget and can find an older edition or similar book for cheaper / at the library. Fun fact: the reason I accidentally linked the older one is because I used the 2014 edition during my studies haha; hope this answers your question and feel free to drop any more questions if you have any!

Hey! Great video! I am retaking the gmat in 18 days and I am in panic mode. The first time around, I scored a 640. This was around 7 months back, and now I have restarted my prep around 20 days back. I took my first mock 2 weeks back and scored a 680, but then scored a 620 in 2 consecutive mocks. ( I took the Kaplan mocks for reference). Now I am freaking out completely. 18 days to go, I hope to follow this schedule to get a better score. Did you skip any topics in quants at all, or did you diligently master everything (to the extent possible of course)? I personally find topics like Permutations and Probability quite tough, so Im wondering if you skipped some topics too?
Hey Aashna! First of all, I totally feel you on the panic mode and experienced that basically everyday during my two weeks leading up to the exam. As difficult as it is, try not to stress in general and don't worry too much about the score; instead, focus primarily on the type of questions you're getting right and wrong and how you're going to improve on those moving forward. (Also, I would say the GMAC CAT exams are more accurate than other practice exams.) In my personal experience, I honestly didn't have enough time to go through and master everything so I mainly tried to master the ones that I found especially tough. This ties into the point I made in the video about categorizing questions, prioritizing topics and how to create a personalized study plan from there. Maybe start with Permutations and Probability first since that is a more difficult topic for you but also keep in mind that some topics are tested much less / more than others! Saloni, thank you so much for watching! That's correct, I went in a bit more detail about that in my more recent videos about best GMAT resources as well as resources on a budget. Honestly, I was lucky enough to have many of these resources (though not always the latest edition) in my local library or bookstore and I've also heard of people who were able to borrow from friends or buy secondhand for a cheaper price. Thank you Shashvat! I would say 2 days is most likely not enough; in my personal experience, it took at least 4,5 full days each to master the concepts for a total of almost two weeks and I would consider pushing back the test date if you only have two days to study. Hope this is helpful!

@@shashvattripathi Great question, I spent all day studying to get through the Manhattan and OG books and for the Powerscore book, I actually used it mainly for critical reasoning and unfortunately didn't have time to get through all of it. Did you go do the Manhattan books first and then the OG or did you do both the them together? I am doing questions from the OG but I have Manhattan books as well. I don't know how I should use them together. I have my Gmat in 50 days and I am going to follow what you did but it'll take a little more time since I have a full time job as well. @@shashvattripathi i started with the OG but would use them concurrently. For example, during a quant focused day, I would work a bit in the OG, realize I needed to work on a specific quant concept (such as integer properties) and then go into the specific integer properties Manhattan book. This is what I personally found to be most effective. Studying while working full time is not easy but hopefully you’re able to carve out some time out of your workday every day to dedicate to focused studying! Best of luck on the GMAT!

Hi Kaarthik, thanks for your question! I believe that the OG is the bare minimum resource when it comes to studying and depending on your goal score, that one bundle may or may not be sufficient for your studies. However, if you would like to get more practice / are not achieving the desire score with just the OG, I would suggest looking into additional resources such as Manhattan as well as Verbal / Quant specific books. there isn't a pdf version that I know of, though gmatclub.com has most (if not all) of the questions from the OG including answers + explanations, and Veritas offers a free app that I found to be very valuable. Did you see overlap between GMAT / IR any investment banking ?
Hi Jaideep, there really isn't any overlap in GMAT content and investment banking. GMAT is testing general quantitative and verbal skills for schools to try to access your overall candidacy and ability to take on MBA courses, while investment banking trains you to have a very deep understanding of corporate finance, financial modeling, the markets, etc. Hope this answers your question!
Did u completed all the questions from all the resources u mentioned?
hey Julia that's a great question! Long story short, 2 weeks definitely wasn't enough time to fully go through all so I focused on the resources that I personally thought were the best. I would then borrow practice tests / questions from the other books listed if I ran out or would read the concepts / explanations from the other books if I felt like I didn't fully understand it / needed another way of explaining. These are the resources I finished cover to cover (keep in mind that my strengths were heavily skewed towards Verbal):
- Official Guide to the GMAT
- Official Guide to the GMAT Quant
- Official Guide to the GMAT Verbal
- almost all of the Manhattan Prep Verbal books (I skipped the ones that I was already getting mostly right and I didn't need practice in, such as Algebra)
(Also all of the GMAC CAT exams)
I used a lot of...:
- PowerScore Bible Critical Reasoning
- PowerScore Bible Reading Comprehension
- GMATclub (this website is a godsend,)
- Veritas Prep videos (if I didn't understand a concept, I found these to be incredible in clearly explaining the best way to tackle specific problems)
All the others, I completed a few sections from and are listed in the description in descending order of how much I used them. Hope this helps!

hey Sanket, thanks so much for watching! In terms of a month's worth of study time, I would approach your study plan similarly but would include more practice exams / reviewing those exams if possible, ideally AT LEAST once at the end of each week (try to simulate the exam setting if possible because part of doing well is about your test-taking stamina). Personally, if I had a month, I would focus spend week 1 focusing on either verbal or quant, second week on the other topic, and having the third and fourth week to be reviewing all concepts to improve on / taking more practice exams. Hi Akila, good question! Whenever I got a wrong answer, first thing I would to do was re-try the problem and pinpoint why I got it wrong. Was it a silly mistake, did I genuinely not understand the concept? Figure out exactly where the mistake came from. If it was just a silly mistake, I would write done ways that I could avoid in the future (ex: "read question stem carefully so I know what question I'm answering") and move on. If it is a misunderstanding in the concept and I know I need to work on the subject matter, I would make a note of what subject / concept it is and then go straight to that chapter to learn and practice until I completely understood. Once I had learned the concept, I would do practice problems on just that specific type of problem / concept until I was CONSISTENTLY getting it correct. There is no specific number because it really varies from person to person based on personal strengths / weaknesses but this is the process I went about when it came to rectifying incorrect answers. Hope this helps! :)

Hey thanks for your question! I cannot guarantee anything besides speaking from my own personal experience but the GMAT OG as well as the Verbal and Quant books were definitely extremely crucial to my score improvement / getting 700+ and arguably the best resources to use; thus I would highly suggest going through all of those from the bundle because they certainly worked for me. Hi thank you for watching! I would suggest starting to study within 5 years of when you plan to attend graduate school (since based on the current guidelines, your results last for 5 years) and giving yourself one to a few months to study intensely before taking the exam. I can only speak to US schools, but there are definitely early admissions programs that are specifically for college seniors who won't have any job experience at the time of application, such as HBS 2+2, Chicago Booth Scholars, Stanford GSB, Yale Silver Scholars, MIT Sloan MBA early admissions, etc. Hope this helps!

If you are to get one comprehensive GMAT prep book, definitely go with the GMAT Official Guid (it is created by the test makers themselves and is thus most representative of the actual exam itself): amzn.to/2VBUyr4
But here are a couple additional tips I have:
1. Before diving into studying, definitely start off with a diagnostic test and really take the time to figure out which specific concepts you’ve found especially difficult / tend to get incorrectly.
2. Have you always been a math whiz, or more of an ace at reading comprehension and grammar? Based on the diagnostic and your own understanding of strengths / weaknesses, start creating your personalized study guide. Focus on your weakest first.
3. On both Quant and Verbal focused days, spend day 1 taking a quick practice test or quiz of that Verbal / Quant section. Many GMAT books have these quizzes; starting off with this way is the easiest method to prioritize quickly and create a list of concepts to learn over the next few days.
4. ALWAYS go back to the questions you got wrong and the ones you guessed right and figure out exactly where you went wrong. Utilize an error tracker (this is an essential tool to rapid score improvement, I have included my favorite ones in the descriptions as well.) Go back and study / practice that concept; it is not enough to just take practice problems without learning the material.

I have a 2020 GMAT prep book do I need to upgrade to the 2021 version?
Hey Christopher, thanks for your question! I answered this in my recent Q&A video and to summarize, in my personal experience I found that there wasn't much of a difference between OGs that are one year apart. I would still suggest researching and double checking to make sure there aren't any significant changes between the 2020 and 2021 prep book; more often than not, the newest edition is nice to have, but not a necessity (also most if not all questions in the latest edition are on the gmatclub.com). Hi. I am taking GMAT in 10 days and have been studying for a week now. I have scored 490 and 430 on practice tests. I am in a complete panic mode. Can anyone please tell me how to make error log. I have tried it but it's not working for me.
Amruta, first off, there is always the option to take the exam at a different date if you feel like you need more time. This would also depend on your current goal score and how much you’ll need to improve to get there. If I were you and still set on taking the exam in a week’s time, I would focus the first few days on maintaining the questions you’re getting right and mostly improving on the concepts that you’re sometimes getting correct. (At this point, not that much time left to improve on the concepts you’re often getting wrong but that is just my 2 cents.) As for the error log, there is one in the description but as long as you’re knowing exactly what subjects and concepts you’re getting wrong, that’s basically the whole purpose of the log. Is it ok to only study from the quant and verbal OG and not study from the official OG?
Can I solely just use a GMAT official guide as my study material? I’m planning to only study about 3-4 weeks before I take my exams
Also would it be ok to use 2019 GMAT official guide? Does it have a lot of difference and will I loose out on anything if I get the older versions?
hey Naega, thanks for your question! 1) I would suggest the reverse: studying from the official OG first and if you realize you need more practice / still need to improve your score, then I would look into investing in the Quant and Verbal OG, or other similar resources 2) In my opinion, the official OG is the bare minimum. Given the amount of time you have before taking the exam, that could be enough but it really depends on your goal score and if solely using that guide will get you there 3) Generally I don't believe there are any material changes if it is only within a couple years but as always, I would recommend doing some research on the key differences between the different OG publications before making a decision. Going and getting another degree is an option I've heard from others as well, especially with the pandemic which has unfortunately impacted so many of us. Regardless of which path you end up choosing, I wish you the best in job searching / gmat studying and applications! :)

kalpana totally understand the overwhelm / sentiment! First off, if you were to only use one resource, definitely use the official guide and go through it cover by cover. Make sure you understand every single question in the book, why you got certain questions wrong and how to strategically get to the right answer . If you find yourself weaker in certain concepts, definitely go back to that section and learn the concept / continue practicing those problems (there are specific books for quant and verbal that I have linked in the description which I found incredibly essential to score improvement). Importantly, have a day to day plan on what you’re going to study and get through on a daily basis and make sure to take a couple times practice exams (especially the CAT). Also, remember to take care of yourself; it’s perfectly normal to feel nervous / anxious and you very likely know and understand more than you think. Best of luck!

Good question! By learning concepts, I'm referring to the lessons at the beginning of each chapter / section in GMAT books that teach you the concepts, strategies, etc. before you get into the practice problems. Hope that helps!

Hey Nimisha, thanks for your question! I think it certainly is possible, though you'll likely have to dedicate a decent amount of time over the next two weeks in order to do so. Based on my research, it seems like on average, it takes ~50hrs of studying to improve score by 0-50pts and 100hrs of studying to improve score by 50-100pts.
