I walk every day, not just for my body but also my mind. I used to live in what we call the suburbs here in Australia and I would walk along roads on the foot path and there would always be cars going by. I stayed in this environment to raise my children and give them stability after I divorced but I always yearned for more space. Six years ago we moved to the beach and there is the most glorious walking path that’s covered by trees, it almost feels like you’re in a rainforest. There’s lots of birds and different animals about. I walk this path every morning and then head down the beach. I’ve never been happier in my life, finally having space and beauty around me. I’m so structured and organised in my business so I don’t want to think logically when it comes to my making. I’m usually pretty monogamous but if I have a squirrel moment then so be it. I’m finally at a point where I have enough clothes so there is nothing missing in my wardrobe. Eek!!! So making is just pure fun and I’ll follow any crafty exploration that intrigues me. Thanks for sharing, nothing better than going for a walk and sitting under a tree, Karen 💖💕
Thank you, Karen! I can relate to the joy you feel when you are finally able to move to a place that feels "more you" and enjoy nature. I know it's not always attainable for everyone, but I really was getting tired of walking the same suburban streets, past the school, past the cemetery (which was the most natural area but also a bit of a downer as my dad had recently passed away.) So when we moved to our new house, I knew the trees full of birds and squirrels would be a joy, but I didn't realize three trails were within walking distance of my home. I am just so grateful to be out alone on them regularly. To not walk thru a refinery to get to them. It's meditative and restorative. So happy for you to have your lovely beach!
Thanks so much for sharing your lovely nature trail. I live near a Salt Water Marsh/nature trail. During the initial pandemic, my daughter and I would walk the trail together to destress. There’s a small Nature Observatory Center there as well. After she adopted her rescued dog, we couldn’t go because dogs aren’t allow on the trail. There a creek that runs along some areas of the trail. Very few people walk the trail, I never walk the trail by myself because a lot of bad, unprovoked incidents happened in NYC after the lockdown unfortunately. I live in one of the boroughs next to the Big Apple. However, I walk to the creek quite often on less hot days to see the creek which is surrounded by rocks, ducks, swans, occasional kayakers. The body of water (creek) is very calming. It is like a quick getaway to destress from the daily stress. You are very brave to venture in trails that might have snakes! ❤
Haha! Well, it was midday. Snakes are usually out closer to evening. And things were pretty open and obvious. But I do still keep an eye out, lol. Your creek sounds like a secret treasure in the city! How wonderful. I have only lived in suburbs near big cities like Houston and Dallas, now Austin. But I found the lack of nature hard to deal with. I'm so glad you had the trail for a time and now your walk to the creek. When all I had was a walk through the refinery and around neighborhoods, I tried to focus on the things that were beautiful Even the rust of the tank farms in the sunset was kind of pretty in the right light, lol. We make do with what we have. Also, open sky is hard to beat.
Hi Michelle. Thank you so much for your videos. I have recently begun watching you. I live on a farm in Southern Ontario canada. So I work in nature every day. With animals -dogs, chickens, horses, cows and goats. We have a screened porch and it is a joy. I find that listening to birds and bees and bugs is very relaxing.
Oh those screened porches are a blessing. Pam was saying sitting on hers is a favorite way to get a little nature. I used to dream of building one on our home, before we moved. The mosquitos were bad there. But since moving they aren't as big a problem here. So I just sit on my patio and listen to birds and the locusts. And of course, watch the squirrels working away all day. Your farm sounds lovely, Jennifer. Thanks for chiming in.
Everything about this was so enjoyable, Michelle. My time in nature during these hot summer days usually involves spending the early morning hours on the screened-in porch, and then bicycling around my neighborhood at dusk. When I’m lucky enough to be at the beach, several hours away for me, I do love morning walks on the sand and watching the waves.
Bicycling at dusk sounds like fun! And a screened-in porch is such a luxury to me! Especially when we were in SE TX - it was unbearable with mosquitos year-round. Thanks for sharing, Pam. I like to cycle here but it is more of a workout than where I used to live- there are lots of hills. So it's fun, but less chill. I'd like to wake early enough to beat the heat and have a relaxing walk in the mornings, but I am not up and at 'em early enough. My walks in the evening with the dogs are very relaxed though. I love it when it is cool. And I almost always see deer coming out of the green spaces near us to munch on all of our landscaping, lol.
I love your knitting tree! And I totally understand the need to be outside and feel more connected. I live in beautiful countryside, so I go for long walks with my dogs every day, and a day without a walk makes me feel something is missing.
Me too!! I am climbing the walls (on the inside at least) while I heal from this pulled muscle. I feel like the trails miss me and my big dog who can make the hike. My dogs remind me when it's getting evening and they want a walk. But the older, little one just gets a short walk on our block because he is having more trouble walking. I always let him go first and hope he doesn't notice that his walks are a fraction of what they used to be. He is going blind so I vary where we walk a bit and let him smell new smells and take his time. Then the big one gets a pretty vigorous walk - or rather she leads me on one. Thanks for sharing, Hanna!
Well that was delightful! I can see why that tree is your favorite, it's glorious! I am realizing that I really need that time outside, too. It's challenging where I live in the winter, but over the last couple of years I've been embracing the winter cold more and more.
I had a hormonal spell where I was really hot-natured for a year and I realized it was my winter to go outside on the coldest days and enjoy the ability to stand it. Things have settled down and I'm back to normal, but I still like the cold. Plus, people in Texas don't always wear appropriate clothing for the cold. Finally getting clothing that keeps me warm helped too. What sorts of things do you like to do outdoors in the cold? We can do anything we normally would bc it rarely snows and never gets too cold. Even the river here is from a warm spring and there are people who swim in it year round! I am not one of those, lol.
Thank you for taking me on this lovely walk and knitting time. I enjoyed this 1st person video. I’m curious… Do you know what the plant you were playing with that had the white fluff seeds? It was beautiful. One of my sons and I like to go on hikes on the mountain trails here in the desert. 🏜️ Even with it’s bare landscape I’m always mesmerized by it. I’m a very detailed person so I love discovering and admiring the little things. I wish the weather was nicer for those hikes this time of year but we have to wait until late fall, winter, and early spring to go. Thanks again for the video my friend. ❤
love this, i'm like that also and need to be in nature and actually just walk I just want to keep walking take a break and then keep walking but I go with my husband so can't knit or crochet and just relax like i'd loooove sometimes-to just hang out with a book, snack, and a knit or crochet project but do take tons of photos. I miss my little dog Lily, she was always in the woods with us.
Yes, bringing a book or a project is an indulgence for when I am alone. Although if I go to the river with my daughter she will bring a book and not be offended at all if I read too or knit. That is fun. Dogs do make extraordinary companions outdoors. I have a friend who owns a little land and her dogs just roam offleash as they please. They are so funny. Mine are always on leash but our younger dog can walk longer distances and she loves those hikes. Now if we could just get her to like swimming too....
I love these videos!! As you know, I live close to the mountains and try to get a hike in 2-3 times a week. And if I'm not able to do that, then a walk around the neighborhood. I'm lucky to live in a neighborhood with lots of trees and plants now. The best.
It's weird how just having a few more trees in a city walk can make a difference! I used to walk the same streets in SE TX and it was okay, but when we moved here the number of trees and interesting natural landscaping and hills made my walks so much more enjoyable. I didn't know what I was missing. When you go on weekend hikes, how far do you guys usually walk?
Very cinematic. Liked the music and I kept thinking you'd see a snake. Your camera is fine. I had the same issue of splitting with Lindy chain, love that color.
What was the seed head you were releasing? I go for walks round our town area in Somerset, South West England where we are living. We have access to a public meadow, just minutes away from the front door. Our garden is tiny, but after the wall and a couple if garages beyond them, are some tall mature trees. So we feel as though we're close to nature all the time. Plus with the high rainfall we have had lately, everything is SO green!!
Your town sounds so nice, Caroline! I love having a nearby place to roam outdoors, but there is also something special about having a little backyard garden. I am still working on mine, and probably always will be. I am trying to learn which plants don't require much water but can thrive here naturally. It is very dry and there are often water conservation measures in place. Even without a lot of plant life in the yard, I love what we do have and the feeling of being alone in a secluded place outdoors, lol. I'm not sure what that seed pod was. I thought it looked like milkweed but it was very high on a bush or small tree. Maybe it was a vining variety. I'd like to learn more about the plants and birds in my area. Thanks for sharing your natural getaways with me. :)
Thank you, Katinka! I thought of you as I tried to film this. I wonder how make little vlogs so easily. I have always loved your making vlogs and now your adventures.

@@mysocalledhandmadelife At least 3 miles, but usually those miles are uppppp a mountain! It depends on how ambitious we're feeling!
Very cinematic.

Thank you and yes, Turmeric is a fun summer color. I'm so glad I didn't see a snake, lol. I have seen them but not at midday. :)
Thank you for this lovely video. I felt like I was walking with you and I needed to get out. It's 115 F right now and I'm trapped inside in the a/c.
Ugh 115 is HOT! Hope things cool down soon for you. Thanks for commenting bc my goal was to make you guys feel like you were there with me :)
This was beautiful Michelle... thank you. Ivana ❤
Thanks, Ivana! I love this little nook so much I had to share it. :)
