As someone that loved to go to the gym and paddle boarding EVERY day, I always thought that was my way to get the mental relief that I needed. Then 3 years ago I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer that spread to my bones and left me with a 2 inch tumor in my hip joint as well as my spine. I was crushed and I feel the hardest part of dealing with pain is the loss of yourself. Not being able to do the things you love. BUT….then I turned back to knitting, that I had stopped doing for a few years, and I realized that we can always find something to bring joy and peace. As much as I think being strong and a “graceful sufferer” is good for my family and friends to see, its also important for them to understand that breaking down sometimes is also a way of relief just as going paddle boarding was. If knowing that you must not stay in the grief, that is the important part. So I keep on KNITTING 😁 And thanks for another great podcast while I do!

Hi Michelle: So sorry that you are dealing with pain! I have them too, I can relate! Since life before and after marriage and kids is always a struggle, I knit and watch podcasts to destress since I have become an avid knitter in the last ten years. Knitting is my escape from dealing with reality. When I was recovering from surgeries, I knit rather than take pain killers. In some cases, less pain killers.
I have a friend that suffered a devastating lost of her only child in her late 20’s, who don’t knit or crochet, I don’t know how she is able to deal with such loss.
Thanks for sharing such poignant podcast! Hope your pain will permanently be gone! 🙏

Hi Michelle, Praying for relief and healing for your pain. I like to listen to podcast friends like you and do some crafting. I crochet and want to learn to knit, also I’ve recently started cross stitching and embroidery. I also love English paper piecing. It helps to occupy your hands and talk to God when you have a lot on your mind. Take care and thank you for your podcast.

Thank you for sharing. This was a reminder to me that we all go through similar challenges in life. We are not alone in our "suffering". or in our healing.

Oh I know the 2 people you spoke about, they have helped me through so many physical problems.
The book "a more excellent way to be in health " by Henry W.Wright helped me so much through the years, and to work through some of the physical problems. I love seeing parts of your house and to just sit and knit here with you today.

It's so timely that I came across your video. I'm sorry that you are in pain, and glad that you have found some distractions. I find that I need to find distractions from my almost constant pain. I am not a suffering saint either. I also don't like to get hung up in suffering, and I'm a lot more likely to retreat then show the pain. However, I can push the pain into stitches, or brush strokes and then maintain as normal type of relationship with others as I'm capable of, LOL, whatever normal is.....
I cope with pain, stress, negative emotions through making. I used to say art & craft, but really, I just need to make stuff. I usually have a simple project that is repetitive when I can't think (RA / migraine / vertigo fog), however, I love a challenge as well. I find that solving a problem, working out a challenging idea, etc works really well to distract me and keep me in a good headspace. Thank you for sharing your day. Take care ❤

I hope your back is healing Michelle.
I, on occasion, deal with a pinched nerve in my upper back/neck which causes me to be bed ridden for days at a time so I understand. I’m not one to ask for help (even though my family would do anything for me) so I find myself struggling to get out of the bed long enough to use the restroom, lol. I’ve dealt with this enough times to know that it goes away. With that said, I’m unable to knit so I generally read or watch TV. I’d much rather be up and moving around but it is what it is so I just accept it and have the best attitude I can while I’m going through it. We can’t change the things that happen to us but we do have control over how we react, and that controls the quality of our life.
    HUGS ❤

Hey Michele, I’m sorry you’re in pain 😢. I hurt my back in February and am still dealing with the pain. It really sucks. But my knitting keeps me going. I hope you feel better soon ❤

I forgot to say, I also like to keep my hands busy, when I am dealing with things. It almost broke me, when my hands seized up in and I couldn't knit or hold a sewing needle anymore. Hope your back feels better

Thanks for sharing Michelle. I started having migraines the last few years and they would knock me out for about five days. I’ve had abuse, trauma and betrayal starting at a very young age continuing for far too long. Seems I signed up for an advanced course in these areas this lifetime 🫣😬 so it’s been a very interesting life for me. I had a lot of work to do and forgiveness and acceptance were a big part of the journey.
It seems the migraines for me were about letting me know that even though I have intellectually processed a lot my body had a different opinion! I started working with a body specialist who helps release trauma and stuck energy. When I get a migraine instead of wanting to curl up he teaches you to lean back and basically do everything in opposition. Lots of staying in stretched positions and breathing - crying if needed and letting go physically. Staying out of telling yourself stories and just being present. Not for everyone but it helped me. I also move when I hit a certain level of stress/anxiety to release energy. Walking has been my friend for so long. I’ll jump up and just dance around and notice everything that’s right and give thanks.
Life certainly is an interesting journey and knitting has saved my sanity these last few years. Thanks for sharing and glad your back to being well again 🥰
