What’s up, from California. I’m rebuilding my Ducati 748, got a friend sending me a tuned R motor with titanium rods. I’ve got the rest of the parts ready for the build. Should be done October
@@DesmoWerx have a quick check this am.... surprising it was nice and free.... I have little history with mine but I do think it has been well looked after.
Hi, I‘ve been following the channel since the winter months when I got myself a „barn find“ 1997 916 Biposto and found all your amazing tips on restoring and rebuilding! Thanks a lot for that helped me out immensely! The bike sat for 18 years and after a lot of work (kinda similar to your ST2 project..) last weekend we planned the first startup since 2002.. now there seems to be some severe connecting rod bearing damage..bummer. So engine out finally.. What I need to do now is build myself some kind of engine trolley from wood as a stand. Similar to your wooden engine stand contraption on your workbench for the Desmoquattros. Any chance you could tell me the measurements of that? That would be great! Thanks again for all that effort, the great work and inspiration! Keep up with the videos!
Hi Hansi, glad to hear the videos are of help, bummer that the con rods sound like they have gone. The dimensions of the wooden box are internally 28cm long x 21cm wide x 12cm deep I use decking board 28mm wide to make the boxes :) Hope that helps and good luck with the engine 👍
DesmoWerx thank you! I just finished the box and the dimensions were spot on! Fingers crossed with the thunderbike and your electrical issue. My bet is the ECU... cheers!
Hello werx :) I don't know if i missed a video. You don't talk too much about rebuild rear shock absorber. I tried to did it myself yesterday on the showa. I wish you made a video about it :)
Hi Romain, I do not have all the tools at the moment to rebuild the rear shock correctly. Will be getting the shock built up by someone else this time round. Will make a video on shock rebuilds once I have everything :)
excelent video i have a 916 sp and a 853 track bike which i was going to strip and check engine and running gear will certainly use your site cheers trevor
Just found the videos .. looking really good.. wish i had the confidence to strip mine down to get the frame painted and rebuild again.. Do you fancy a project?
@@DesmoWerx thanks for the info I will keep watching your excellent videos and will check the swing arm pivot, if not seized I am going to do this for the winter project.. many thanks
Love your videos, I have my first 916 and am attempting to strip it down to the bare frame ready for a full restoration.. At present I am struggling to remove the pivot bolt that attaches the rear shock to the swingarm, can you confirm that the only thread on this bolt goes into the special nut? Once that nut is removed should I be able to know the bolt through? If no other thread anywhere else then I will persuade it with a drift and hammer
HI Chilli, there is no thread other than the nut holding that pivot bolt in place, if it has not been removed in some time it can get corrosion within the pivot that seizes it in place. I would soak it in penetrating oil and see if that helps, then apply a little heat. Try to work it free with gentle taps rather than hitting it out.
Just bought a 996S and your videos are going to be a real asset to my ownership and maintenance of this bike. Thanks for such great explanations.
Glad to help, good to see the videos will be of help 👍😎

Sweet, sounds like a good project ahead of you. The 748R motor is a gem , really needs revving to get best from it though
Another great video... Time to go and grease my spindle bolt!
Its definitely worth checking regularly 👍😊

Thanks for putting together this series of videos. They give me the confidence to strip and restore my 748!
That's good to hear, they are nice bikes to work on :)
Really enjoying watching this series even though I don't have a ducati 😁
There is always space in your life for a Ducati :)

It only takes about 2 hours to strip the bike down to the frame, its not too difficult as long as the swingarm pivot is removable 😎
