I think probably the comment that got her was when he said "Wow everything is extra these days". It's not just the $3 cheese, it's that she can tell that he's going to be the kind of person who isn't going to want to pay to experience the finer things in life. She clearly values experiences over material possessions. So it makes sense these two aren't a good fit.

@@jikook7457 As someone who has purchased a home and also eaten $3 cheese in New York City I can promise you that the reason why people can't afford houses, cars, and other things that were much easier purchases 50 years ago isn't because they're getting $3 cheese on their burgers. There's much more complex economic reasons. This is the boomer cope where they're like "The reason you can't afford a $500,000 house is because you eat Avocado Toast!". Living a little bit and spending $50-100 on a saturday night so your crappy life is just a little bit more fun isn't going to be the difference between buying a house or not.

People have had tuition debt, housing costs, low wages, child care, utility expenses, etc for years, so not sure how those things are so "complicated" now. Besides, boomers generally were 1 income families, at $3.25 min wage, making helping their grown children, like many do today, financially impossible

She lives the same lifestyle as I have seen in lots of young girls, this day and age. Spend it when or if you have it and cry about not having any money to pay bills later. No thought at all for fiscal responsibility.
I think it's a consequence of a certain fatalism young people have these days. The world is crap, the economy is garbage and their future prospects are not great. They figure they'll be in debt no matter what they do, so they might as well enjoy themselves while they can.

My daughter and her friends all seem to have the same view. if someone tries to save money, they are cheap and should be kicked to the curb. I had an argument with my daughter recently over a xmas gift for my grandson. She felt it was a priority over her car payment. I was blown away with this mindset. My grandson is 4 and couldn't care less how much a toy cost.

Like you said, you can get an entire package for $3. I am the same about ranch dressing. Some places charge $1 for a small side ramekin of ranch to dip in. My husband and I get dinner out a couple times a week and spend about $50. We tip 25% too. The majority of the time we get it to go, so I'll just use my own at home. This guy dodged a bullet. She's definitely one of those people that would pay for a sows ear and calls it a silk purse.

When your order a cheeseburger the price of the cheese is included in the price you see in the menu ! But if I take an hum burger (maybe it’s a place with a lot of different kind of burger who probably come without cheese)so if I take a special humburger and don’t come with cheese for sure I would ask how much it is extra !! It’s the same thing if you take a plate who come with French fries and you want instead a poutine or a salad we gonna ask how much extra I need to pay and some restaurant are really really overpriced their stuff

My wife, who I love to pieces and who loves me to pieces, when she was first dating me, noted that I had a very measured approach to money. I liked value and quality, and I liked making sure I got a fair price. She told me later on this literally turned her on, that I was cautious with my money, while still being willing to get good things, when it made SENSE to do so. So this king should continue turning down $3 cheese upsells, and find himself a woman worthy of him.

My friends and I had a similar discussion at a restaurant 20 years ago about the price of a slice of cheese and how humorously expensive it was.
I'm glad you mentioned she was probably lying about going on a 2nd date with this guy because that's what I was thinking. She is not financially responsible and is looking for attention. If she truly ghosted this guy and blocked him, she's got issues for sure and he is free of that one.
I had a business as a professional organizer a few years back before I hurt my knee and couldn't do it anymore. But I still run a page on FB with tips. One of those tips is to NOT buy packaged grated cheese or the slices. It's cheaper to buy a block of cheese as you get more product for the money and you can slice it and grate it yourself. I also tell folks to NOT buy coffee out. Get a cheap coffee maker and a thermos and take your own coffee to work and save a ton of money. New York or not, $3.00 for a slice is just stupid.

If it was just "cheese," I could understand the additional price increase, but they don't leave it at just cheese. I stopped ordering Whoppers at BURGER KING decades ago the day I'd learned that they had since implemented charging extra for all of the other veggie toppings that they used to add for free -- and considering how many people request "no pickles," "no tomato," "no onion," etc. on their Whopper sandwiches, it wasn't like increasing the amount of these items onto a sandwich for somebody who'd wanted them was going to cut negatively into their profit margins any.

I now can get all the cheese I want on my burger. But back when I was in my 20s, I needed to budget. It was very rare when I could splurge. A man has to get to that point before we can receive the finer things in life. If a girl can't see that, then it's her lost. My wife go to high-end restaurants at least 2x a week now because we can.
