Hey Mate thinking of doing this to a Series 1 Vy S Ecotec. I’m not bothered by shifting gears from 1st to 3rd to Drive, But being my daily I’m worried it might cook my transmission or maybe even an Engine light? Have you had any troubles with this before on the Vy before you swapped it to manual? Cheers
Hey matey. Thanks for watching. There have been a couple of instances where it can throw the engine light on, but I’ve only seen it on Berlina’s and Calais, and only a couple of times, I’ve done this mid dozens of times, but anything is possible. It won’t wear out your transmission any quicker or anything like that so you don’t have to worry
@@cassarindustries_wheelwerk that’s awesome I’m gonna give this ago and follow your video step by step the wires should be the same considering it’s a Vy thanks heaps for the reply🤙
Similar transmissions but the wiring harness and ecu is still very different. It won’t work mate and I haven’t found anyone that has managed to do it on vz onwards commodores
This mod shouldn’t affect how the car drives when it’s in D. However removing is super simple. Just cut the diode out, and re join the wires. Can’t mess it up as the wires are coloured
Hey mate thanks for watching 👌🏻 Yeah they are quite different in the earlier models. As far as I know this mod only covers VX and VY. Can also be done for VT but I think colours are slightly different. Pretty sure There is a way to do it on VS, but will be different colours and different pins. I vaguely remember seeing something in google about doing this mod to VS.
VT is deferent wiring to VY. If the VY is going into limp home I’d double check you’ve used the correct wires and connected them the way I have, and also check the diode is around the right way. If the diode is back to front you’ll have to replace it as it’s probably fried
Unfortunately you need shift gears. If you put it in drive, the car will take off in third gear and then will shift itself to fourth. But first and second gear need to be selected manually. Also it’s worth mentioning, depending on the series and range of your car, it may also cause an engine light to come on. Recently did a series 2 VY Calais and it’s thrown an engine light when you shift gears
@@CameronFaulkner-p9qyou’ll need to wire it to a switch and have the switch mounted near the steering wheel that way you can turn the manualisation off
Thanks for the comment mate. Never encountered that issue before. The wired that are messed with for this mod only wires to the auto, so can’t see how it would affect anything engine related. Done dozens of these and never had that problem, so not sure
If you look closely in the video you can see which one it is. Both the yellow wires have other wires between them so it’s hard for me to tell you exactly which one without physically showing on the plug
@@cassarindustries_wheelwerk yeah im gonna do it to be safe, just live in a smaller country town and most things are closed on a Sunday but tomorrow ill be getting the same haha, video helped heaps by the way mate 👌
Unfortunately not mate. VZ have the 3.6lt alloytec. Completely different engine, completely different wiring and ecu. Haven’t figured out how to do it on a vz yet
VX and VY V6 are the same and that’s where it stops. VS is different, VT is different again, and VE is totally different. Looking at diagrams i think this will work on Vx and VY V8 also, however I’ve never tried it
In most circumstances yes. It’s a bit of a weird thing. I recently did this mod in a VX and in drive the car would take off in 2nd and then shift normally. After 2nd it shifted fine. Would only get first if you pulled the shifter down to first. But most times, yes
Unfortunately not mate. VZ wiring is quite a bit different. Not sure if somewhere out there has managed to ‘trick’ the ECU like you can in the earlier commodores
Nup. To manualise the tranny in a LS1 VX-VY/VZ you can do it all through the stock OS while maintaining the drive function. Stock LS1 computers are very, very capable, even on stock OS
VX are Ecotec. If you have a VX with an Ecotec then it should, but you must check the wires are the same colour at each of the pin outs . If you have a VZ an alloytec then no. Very different
So my car is doing a weird thing where when I hit 20km going to park it stutters and feels like it’s shifting down to slow but when I manually change it to first when I hit 20km it’s fine and doesn’t do that any thoughts?

@alcatraz1849 all good mate good luck! Just make sure you use the correct diode.
So I found out that the transmission is th 4l60-e can I still do this trick?

Would I be able to do this with my 2003 Vy ecotec they seem way you have done it

Yep shouldn’t be a drama

Might be neautral safety switch
Did everything and just revs higher in first before still shifting to second anyway? Any ideas what I did wrong?
What model car do you have? And are you trying in drive or are you pulling it back to first gear?
Hey mate I tried following your step but I've got a 96 vs calais and the only matching colours are on the 3rd pinset does it change from vs to vy?

Hey mate you wouldn’t happen to know the colours for a vt?
Not off the top of my head mate I’d have to find my old notebook and have a look.

Hey mate would a 1n5404 diode do the same or need the 5408?
Different resistance so I don’t think so
Do you have to use the same diode as that? Or could you use a 4 amp one, still does the same thing im guessing
Not sure mate for the sake of a dollar for the diode I’d say just get the correct one e

dos that work with vt commdore as well

Not sure what you mean by pin point number mate, but it’s easiest to just go off the wire colour

Not that I’ve heard of but I’m sure there’s a way
Could it be the same way as VS to VY transmission
No. VS is different to VT and VX, VY is different, and VZ is different again
Ok I tryed finding out but still no luck do you no wat the name of the wire you cut and join together
They are shift solenoid wires but the ones you need to cut are different for every model. Plenty of wiring diagrams in the old google though
Everything is working good, revs out good, but my D turned into neutral after doing this
