Round 5 was when Naseem realized he was not winning the fight. He landed some hard shots on Barrera but Barrera ate them like a typical Mexican fighter and just stood there and fired back.
I was 14 when this fight happened and had my little part time job. First fight I ever ordered. That fight was worth my pay check.

Barrera was one of the best. Hamed was just a flash in the pan. Greetings with lots of love from the Philippines here. Pacquiao, Barrera, Morales, Marquez are the real deal.
37 fights with a 90% K/O rate, holder of every belt and only 1 loss in which he was out of shape with a broken hand, and yet Barerra still couldn’t knock him down. Naseem also won 4 of those rounds so it was not a landslide and had Barerra gotten a real Prince that night he would’ve been barbecue chorizo.

@@VillainArc09 bro in hindsight all that boasting he did was for the sport, to bring a vibrant confident personality like Ali back to boxing so that it would attract fans from all over the world whether they hated him or not, because it was good for the sport. And what I said still stands true, it’s documented he was out of shape due to breaking his hands since he hit so hard, so he neglected training for Barrera to recover when he really should’ve postponed the fight. But he took it lightly then got fat and had to lose some 30+ pounds in 2 weeks, shadowboxing for hours in a sauna the night before the fight to shed the last couple pounds, which is terrible for your body losing that much weight that fast. That’s why this was the only fight where he didn’t do a somersault into the ring, he was exhausted lmao. But he took the L like a boss and wasn’t salty about it. He also proved how strong a chin he has to have taken so many hard shots from Barrera and never falling once.

I'm willing to bet that since the night of that match, he has secretly relived it many times, and has a tough time coming to terms with it. He was undefeated with mostly KOs. Berrera is a rock here. All this talk about Naseem being unprepared is nonsense as is the talk that Hamed was past his prime. Hamed could have had a rematch, but ducked. Both fighters were 27 and Barrera was still fighting 10 years after this fight.
Summary of Naseem Hamed: southpaw with unusual boxing style and great natural talent, ultimately undone by believing his own trash talk and not being a match for a serious challenge from a hard champion boxer who countered his unorthodox style.
barrera i think would have stopped him they were unsure of naz power so they stayed on the outside naz landed a big power punch and it didnt bother barrera at all at that point barrera became more agressive but too late in the fight for a stoppage. i`m a brit but a huge fan of the mexican style and so was with barrera all the way

Looking at the comments section, it seems I’m the only Prince Naseem fan. I think he was a very naturally gifted and talented fighter. I know he didn’t train properly for the fight and was underprepared, I still think the best man won. I’ve watched that fight a few times and Barrera had his number. Prince should’ve switched his game plan when it wasn’t working.
So tired of the delusional Haseem excuses. He fought low tier fighters until this match. Barrera broke his fragile soul and basically retired him. His "hand issues" didn't keep him from doing cardio to keep the weight down either.

Being a great fighter is more than just boxing. It means DISCIPLINE -which includes not letting yourself get FAT. A broken hand would not have stopped from running, eating right and doing some calisthenics and stretching. Dude fell in love with his own hype and power and paid the price. THAT is part of why Marco took him by the hand and walked him to school.

After Barrera beat the shit out and schooled him, he retired cause he want no of Morales, Marquez and Pacquiao. Morales and Marquez are better counter puncher than Barrera and they could have KOed Prince. Pacquiao on the other hand would be the most brutal annihilation Prince could ever taste in the ring.
you do realize prime hamed, healthy, fully prepared for the fight would murder all four of your boys. hamed is just on another level of speed and agility. but his biggest strength was his natural talent for boxing and fighting in general. i think he could have been an even better mma fighter than he was a boxer. he was always going for the ko, not like this dumb bitch barrera just putting his hands up and countering and scoring the fucking points.

Emmanuel Stewart had warned him and told him to stay away from Marquez as he thought that Hamed had too much to lose if he fought someone like Marquez and instead took what they believed would be an easy fight against Barrera who was thought to be at the ends of his career
This was a wake-up call and Hamed retired shortly after this loss realizing he was not on any of the level of the real stars like Barrera, Morales, Marquez, and then new comer Pacquiao

I think that’s a bit harsh on Nassem. He was a naturally gifted boxer with a great deal of weapons in his arsenal. I do agree that his ego was too great and in the long run, that served as his undoing. Even if Naz trained properly for a rematch, he’d still struggle against Barrera, he’d have to completely change his style of fighting to beat him.

One of my favorite fights. The documentary centered on the lead up to this fight and the fight itself is top notch. Barrera was a bad dude.
I had seen both fighters prior to their meeting and Hamed never convinced me as a legitimate fighter. Barrera had tougher fights than Hamed before their meeting. I felt the same way about Lomachenko. Too flashy and awkward stance and throwing unorthodox punches. When they have awkward stance, they are frequently off balance, and they can easily get hit and even knocked out.
Difference is Lomachenko miles better than rubber bloke,and more importantly he's took it on the chin and trying to regain his stature.
And for all you people saying he fought bums you guys wouldn't last 10 second with thos bums... Kevin Kelley and wilfredo vazuez sr are future hall of famers and he beat both... And oh he's a hall of famer himself
