Make Faster, Powerful Golf Swings by Hitting the ‘Folding Point’ instead of Turning & Pulling🚫

  • With your natural turn the club will hit the ball from an earlier release - most golfers pull the club and turn too far & are unable to hit the ball High, Far, & Straight because of it. Hit the Folding Point and you’ll see quick results! Here a link below where fellow Professional Kerrod Gray explains it a bit differently - #1 reason amateurs who have slower swing speeds cannot hit the ball well🙌🏼⬇️

    Dan I’m so glad this video randomly appeared in my feed, your teaching is so easy to understand. I’ve been struggling with strike and consistency, and even after trackman lessons I felt I hadn’t really improved. Previous lessons the PGA coach was all about “pulling the chain” but I couldn’t understand how that could work. And I was told don’t ever try and cast/release…..I went to the range this afternoon after watching some “fold the club” videos of yours and sure, there was some left and right, but WOW I couldn’t believe how far and straight I hit the majority of shots. I can’t wait to play the next few days. A HUGE THANK YOU to you for your great tuition.

      @@danaltongolfinstruction It really does work, wow...Does ball position matter too? Is it better with up, back, neutral? And, what about with a driver? Is the folding point higher up, more toward the shoulder? or would it be the same, which seems to be about the right hip area for me. Tnx, again, this is the easiest swing to replicate too, it almost seems like i'm not trying to even hit the ball, as in, I'm not worried about it as I'm swinging through the ball, i've even been taking up divots!!!

    WOW! - literally just watched a golf video that was advocating the popular pulling the handle forward and rotating hard through the ball. So much instruction is suited for the elite player. But most of it leaves the average golfer way out of position - and struggling to square the clubface. Identifying this "folding point" is genius, and releasing from there takes so much of the endless compensation out of the golf swing. Thanks so much!

    I just want to say thank you for this video. For months i have been struggling to get consistency (while getting coached by a pga instructor). My backswing looked spot on but I could not stop pulling down from the top resulting in an out to in path. Feeling like I release from the top/fold and turn makes effortless power and most importantly puts the club on plane coming down every single time.

    I started playing golf at 25...28 yrs ago. Took me 2 yrs to shoot a 73 on a par 72. Then people started to "suggest" pulling handle thru, delay the release, etc. This swing by Dan came natural due to baseball and other racquet sports. I gave up on golf 10 yrs ago until recently when I started seeing this swing concept. Now I'm hitting straight again and my ball speed up to 160-170 with 1.40 avg smash factor. This guy and others with the "early release" or "over the top" from INSIDE need more views. It will save your game and make golf fun again.

    I have been a handle dragger for DECADES. Embracing casting on plane has taken my game to a whole new level. In the past, some teachers made my handle dragging even worse, by getting me to swing with my "big muscles". These are great concepts and I believe helps me understand the golf swing as a whole, but without releasing the club correctly, it was all for not. Thank you so much. I wish you were local.

    Genius concept.Liked and subscribed. As others have said you are articulating the "Malaska" move in a very clever way. I am a professional coach and trainer in computing. Sometimes a simple change in terminology makes a lightbulb moment. "The point of no return" when the club goes beyond the folding point means we are dumped underneath and all kinds of bad shots happen. It worked for Nicklaus as you said at the end.

  • @Michael-v2y1v

    The "Folding Point" resonates with me. Mike Malaska seems to teach the same concept but Dan's "folding point" description delivered clarity. Would love to see Dan post a couple of videos related to chipping and short pitches to understand if the folding point is relevant to those shots as well.

  • @Grayback1973

    Was just in the field hitting PW's with this.Struck every single one solidly and took a divot. It's really the feeling of releasing all angles immediately in the downswing.The opposite of trying to hold the angles and rotate. Hopefully this sticks and doesn't turn into another "swing thought" that works for a while and then stops working.
    I've been chasing a better golf swing for two decades with lessons, band aids,etc.....lol........but Dan I do appreciate teachers like you that seem to want to help people genuinely and not milk them along for their money.

    Hi Dan, Really interesting concept from a few points - the Folding POint could give me an immediate takeaway and swing plane without 1000 positions to “miss” but more importantly for me, it gives me a thought that allows my body to move as a unit and it allows me a relaxed swing - which hopefully will mean less “stiffness/injury”

      I’m really working on this release and getting away from pulling the handle. I was on a Trackman simulator yesterday. Ball striking was much more consistent and i immediately picked up 10-15 yards with my pitching wedge. What I found, however, was almost all of my shots went to the left (I am right handed golfer). The club path was most of the time “inside to out” and the face angle was closed and closed to the path. What is the best way to get the face square or slightly open? Weaken the grip a bit? Release sooner ? Release more from the inside and out to the right ? Thanks for your feedback.

    I think I needed this because I too got so caught up with changing my swing and using all body and rotation with lag that I got in a very bad place and my swing was changing and falling apart constantly and can no longer shoot in the 70s as often. I used to be a flipper of the club, which I still don’t want to do but I was very consistent at it besides losing distance. But this type of swing in the video just mentally makes so much more sense to me and now I can have 1-2 swing thoughts instead of 5 or more swing thoughts and really killing myself trying to turn and rotate through the ball while holding lag. I just always thought this was the “wrong” way based on most other golf videos but seeing this brings my comfort and confidence level back knowing that it’s just a different way to think about it and it works. I was starting to get tired of golf that I didn’t have the motivation and enjoyment like I used to.

    Just to clarify something you're talking about at the very beginning where most instruction to sing to bring the handle through so it's way ahead of the ball they are also twisting the shaft! Collin Morikawa would be a great example of this even if his hands are way ahead he's twisting the shaft to square the face well as his body rotation.
    I do find this concept fascinating! To me it almost seems like it would be ideal for driver or longer clubs though. Well I guess it depends on the goal. The reason Pros are in my opinion dramatically delofting or leaning the shaft and twisting the club is to maximize distance. I do see where your concept would be highly effective though as well.

    Dan, I used this technique today for 18 holes and was shocked how well I hit it with every club. I’m 71 and today I hit a 270 yd drive with a tail wind. My usual drives are 220. The left palm down with the casting release was the key for me. A strong lead hand with a weak trail hand that you can hit hard with, connected upper arms and a strong focus on shoulder alignment we’re awesome together! Instead of calling it the folding point it’s really the unfolding point right? Anyway, thanks so much for this very clear concept! Has been a breakthrough for me 😀

    Thanks Dan, loved this video. I’ve been playing golf on & off for 40 years now, I remember being told by a coach early on to throw the club head at the ball is this in line with what you’re saying here? I’m 70 now and just coming back to golf did the right thing and had some lessons and was told that I’d do better if I created some lag in my swing by pulling the handle through and all I have been doing is hitting right or dead straight pulls with the occasional straight one. Playing of 16 despite this. So I’m off to the range right now to see if I can get some better contact happening and maybe find the centre of the club more often.

    My observations;
    1. He stood up about inch or so from the stance to the top of the swing. Not a huge problem, but better if he was level or even a small dip.
    2. He waits until his backswing finished at the top before starting his downswing. This is a very common and HUGE problem that plagues nearly all amateurs. His entire body moves together from the top, but what should be happening is the lower body starts rotation BEFORE the backswing is finished. In other words there's no X-factor or upper body/lower body separation.
    3. He stands up in the down swing because he has to, otherwise the club would hit well behind the ball. So he ends up flipping at the ball. All the trail elbow and wrist angles are completely lost long before impact.
    4. If you freeze the video frame at impact you can see his hips are pointing directly at the ball, instead of being open past the ball.
    The hips must be open at impact, the trail side should have some bend to it. Freeze a video of Bobby Jones swing at impact. I would have him immulate that impact in a static position first. Right now he doesn't understand what that even should look like, so he can't immulate it a full swing.

  • @DASH1ful
    @DASH1ful Год назад

    well, it's the point of propulsion that takes a player into the folding point. but, the hands don't make any independent release. the right clavicle turns thru, whilst the left hand presses against the left side of the shaft. obviously, with a full shot, the clavicle can't turn thru from the top. it can only turn thru when the club has started to move back round to the ball. the flexion of the right arm, in the full swing, activates the muscles around the clavicle and enables it to turn thru when the muscles in the left side of the right forearm have become fully activated.
