    Most logical explanation of the golf swing by far. I’ve never struck the ball better than I have since talking with Dan about the folding point and frontal rotation.

    I had a pro teaching me the proper weight transfer and re-centering move and I never really felt like I understood it but I think in reality I was over exaggerating the movements. if I bump the club back and squat a little at the top its almost like I automatically "recenter" and im primed to deliver the club more efficiently. I never told the pro what my "feel" was but he said it looked great lol I was basically doing what you are here. I feel like when people teach, everything is so exaggerated that its hard for an amateur to understand. If someone says you need "70% of weight on your back foot starting the swing before recentering at the top"... well to me that tells my brain that its an absolutely conscious movement of weight but in reality it is SOOOO subtle and happens so quickly. this video is close to sort of explaining it without too much technical jargon and numbers. great vid man. thanks!

    As a certified human movement coach this makes complete sense and it a great video! With that being said, I understand what you’re saying by Frontal and Sagittal but it can be confusing for the average person to understand. Perhaps a video showing your average viewer the different planes of motion would be super helpful.

    I've been playing for 15 years or so, and just recently my swing just went. Struggling for 3 weeks at the driving range. First 10 balls fairly solid contact then bam, it was like I never even seen a golf club before. I went back to the basics, which is what I always have done when I struggle. Slowly coming out of the funk, but this video right here has me going down the right path. Sometime, the simplest little reminders bring it back. I have been hitting some of the most solid iron shots that I've hit in awhile. The T150 clubs feel like a knife cutting through warm butter again.

    Congrats on having achieved this level of mastery over your swing. It is a pleasure to watch. Notice that at 1:39 left image, if you extend the butt end of the shaft, it points at the ball. If the clubhead, shaft, hands, and ball remain on that line, throughout the swing, this is what being connected means. The idea comes from Seymour Dunn's Orthodox swing from the very early 20th century.

    Dan, your instruction is world class. The content, demonstrations, and brevity are excellent. Using students (Sarah, etc.), training aids (pool noodle), different angles, and numerous demonstrations are reenforcing. The shortness of your videos make it easy to take to the range and review. Plus, the content is 5 stars. And, even an octogenarian can get back to hitting quality shots. Thank you, Sir.

    Glad I found your site. Just got back from the driving range, after getting familiar with the swing, some amazing results. I hit 10 straight and long 5 irons, never did that before. After several swings with the driver, had many great results. I needed to get the driver a few inches above my shoulder line and the backswing instead of below, and then the only thoughts were to release early and let the club head carry a turn through the ball. Most of my shots were straight or a slight draw, a few fades. I know you said turn is automatic, but being 68 if I didn’t think about turning, I stop. Dan, virtual session requires WiFi, does a garage session work for a virtual lesson? Thank you.

    4 at the top is your left arm straight right arm on a 90 elbow facing down towards your seam of your right side of your shirt golf club parallel to the target at the top

I was a good 10 handicapnon my sixties. Now I'm about a 20 die to distance loss and flipping a lot. I have never heard the term folding. Can you explain that. It probably what I used to do but now I can't. I have arthritis in every joint in my body from 50 yrs of racquetball, weight lifting and golf also two hip replacements, 4 heart attacks, knee injuries, and neuropathy in both feet. But I still play as much as I can. I've watched most of your videos. Im having a tough time with the frontal position and the folding of my arm. Very good - remember, the up portion is relative, some people feel they have to ‘jump’ or come up and some will just do it naturally. The important thing is to make sure we’re folding that release thru they was it’s shown from a more frontal position (not transverse twisted)

  • @maxwired2235
    @maxwired2235 10 месяцев назад +1

    Is this similar to what Malaska talks about, "keep the club in front of you during the BS, and as you transition, let the chest stay back and just let gravity drop the arms while you squat and drive the left hip back and up, which allows centrifugal force to move the handle in as the clubhead moves out to the ball at with great speed?" Not forcing things and remaining tension free is key to this.

    • @danaltongolfinstruction
      @danaltongolfinstruction  10 месяцев назад +1

      While you do have to have the club in front of you on the back swing, you also do on the downswing. Not really sure what all the mechanics there are but…. MM thinks the swing will just happen from motion like this ….but in reality you have to fold the the face thru like I explain or else it’s still liable to twist and roll

    I notice with this concept that you don’t appear to move the right shoulder too far around behind the head. Is this a result of your front Sagittal move or the fact you were hitting a less than full shot for demonstration. I see in pros a full turn of the right shoulder behind the head. How come they can do this and still swing in a sagittal plane. Thanks again for some original thought about the golf swing.

    • @danaltongolfinstruction
      @danaltongolfinstruction  10 месяцев назад +1

      Because if I move the should back - that’s Transverse Rotation - as explained in the video. Also explain was, you’ll think they go transverse because of their 30 degree spine angle - but they really don’t - therefore, they don’t have to twist out of that angle to hit the ball. Any player you see that actually does twist, comes back to frontal before their down swing starts…due to some flaw they had as a beginner coming over the top.
      This move shown is how to do it with 0 compensations - very clean
      Hope that helps.

    The sagittal part is the body moving up and down vertically and the frontal is the arms and club moving up down up by folding the club. I think I got it, golf swing has 2 planes of movement both of which eliminate pulling the handle and rotating the face.

    • @danaltongolfinstruction
      @danaltongolfinstruction  10 месяцев назад +1

      If you’re referring to your left breaking thru and past impact, it’s not a big deal. If you’re doing way before hand, try and keep the handle lower as you swing. But chicken wing isn’t really a huge deal, lots of players including myself do it a bit as they go thru. It’s just another thing the golf industry talks about that doesn’t effect the swing much. The golf industry likes to ‘put in a new air conditioner to fix the broken engine’, they just don’t know any better or what to look at.

      Same with driver. Except there are more options you can add. You can really bomb it by hitting up (bc the ball is on a tee) and to do that, you’d weight from front to back (yes you heard that correctly, front to back) as you swing….you can also swing a little more under or over plane with driver depending on what you wanna do with the flight.

      Most players can only describe what they’re feeling, not what they’re actually doing. I used to have a video frame for frame with me and hogan and it was the same. Check this out and you’ll see what I’m talking about:

    All makes sense but the squat at the top. My squat happens during the down swing.

    You need to have a paid course teaching all of this......I would pay if it was organized and done well. I have no doubt you would do that! Thank you.

      Funny, I was suppose do a 2day shoot in FL doing a 3 part course on the whole game in Dec. Sprained my back the night before I was suppose to go. Still recovering, even making this was tough. But, coming this year I’ll have one made 👍🏼

    My man, this is earth-shattering for me. I was so in "transverse" dumb technical golf nerd mode that I couldn't even do the one-legged cross body med ball throws that my personal trainer was teaching me yesterday. I kept losing my balance because my upper body was twisting all over the place. Feeling frontal/saggital with the whole swing feels so bizarre (I somehow made it to 5 handicap by twisting), but it works. AND now my head finally stays steady. I have been working to keep it from bobbing up and down for 14 years. Amazing. Thanks so much!

    Dan: This guy Christo is now teaching OTT Miracle Swing where he wants you to pull the club WAY inside - have you seen that? A lot of the students he shows look like total hacks doing it. Opinion??

    • @danaltongolfinstruction
      @danaltongolfinstruction  9 месяцев назад

      I just watched it. He sucks it inside and then feels that he comes over, in reality he’s just coming to the plane and probably not knowing that. He still holds on too much and doesn’t know how to release. Dangerous move to just blatantly teach people. All these instructors find one little thing and think it’s eureka. They don’t understand the swing fully and/or how to get all types of people to do it. So basically you get a piece that might be correct, can only be applied to a certain type of flawed player, and that’s that, on to the next guy the amateur goes for help. It’s annoying from my perspective. Here’s the answer:
      1. Where’s the plane & how do I get on it
      2. How do I fold the club thru the release at impact
      3. Limit transverse movements as it compromises the above laws
      Done.
      Hope that helps.

    Looks like early extension with very little rotation to me. Never seen a good player do that.

      It also feels like very little rotation, so it's surprising that the ball travels as far as it does. I was expecting to lose a ton of yardage with this swing, but that didn't happen. Gained consistency tho. And yes, it did feel like I was releasing at the top of the swing, but that didn't result in casting the club. Very different from the way I was previously swinging.

      You’re mostly likely losing ‘outward angle’ which you can see in a video covered here:

    I was squatting naturally...I just didn't know to stay frontal. All my well-meaning friends said "Don't squat on backswing and rotate". They meant well, I guess. We'll try this again tomorrow.

      Yes and if you do it correctly, it’ll look like ‘a turn’ - give it a go!
