If you are reading these comments you might share my same experience. I have watched dozens of instructors on youtube for years now. I have tried every method taught on youtube of swinging the club. I have paid for multiple subscriptions services, lessons, and training aides over the years. I understood the mechanics of the golf swing but I could not translate it into realty. I was ready to quit until I stumbled on this video this afternoon. I thought "oh great another youtube golf instructor... not going to fall for this again" Chuck's story resonated with me so I decided id give it a shot. Let me tell you his few videos have saved my golf swing. The theory is aligned with the instruction and he explains it in a way that is translatable online. I know I sound like a paid affiliate 😝 Just grateful I finally found content that helped MY swing. Thank you Chuck!

Just got back from the range. If you can throw a ball 50 feet, you can do this. Everyone at the range thought I was a scratch golfer. This video brought me back 40 years. I'm 69 still hit the occasional 300 yarder and now have the tools to shoot my age. I still can't get into the site for the orher 53 minutes. This stuff is worth the cost of a new driver!

The content of this video is why I joined RST. I wanted to have a swing that was effortless, did not hurt me, powerful, and efficient. Chuck, your journey is my journey, but mine only started in 2014. I told people that if I’m suppose to hit an 8 iron 160 yards with a standard swing, then I want to do so. I should not have to come out of my shoes to do so. I feel that it is found in making the most efficient swing that I can. I’m tired of people telling me “ age is what is slowing you down.” Get out of here with that. I will checkout those 5 videos

Quinton, just came back from the range after viewing this video. Wow!! The results are amazing. I touched on throwing the club after reading Fred Shoemaker’s seminal book “Extraordinary Golf” but there wasn’t enough technical info to help me. Your video is the perfect accompaniment to his thoughtful work.
Quick question- do you still use the right shoulder back for the start of your backswing and do you try to keep the club head low to the ground in the first move back as well?

Thank you! I may have to give the champions tour a looksy, wanna loop for me?! lol. Only 2 years away! My swing speed hasn't changed much. I've been in the low 120s for a long time time now and I don't really try and swing any faster than that. I'm not trying to make it on the long drive tour! I'm really focused exclusively on repeatability and control. And that is what has changed the most. I can hit the ball with incredible precision (let me know if you need a member guest partner!) without trying. My swing is so simple now that good shots are merely a matter of getting out of my own way. I did play in my first fun event last week with this swing and won closest to the pin at 6' from 180 with an 7 iron, so that's something I guess lol. As you'll see in the comments on the 5 video series on the site, people are pretty jazzed about this!

Chuck, I notice that both of your shoulders rotate independently from your head in the transition/downswing. I have a tendency to keep my chin almost connected to my left should in the transition. Scratch golfer, so I have a decent swing all things considered but this is a small thing I’ve had trouble getting rid of. Any advice?

    • @Rotaryswing
      @Rotaryswing  6 месяцев назад

If it’s just during the transition that’s a tiny amount of time so your head likely wouldn’t move too far forward but what I think you are describing is actually caused by pushing from the trail side of your body and makes them move together and mostly laterally

That's one thing about Tiger is his hands are the best in the game. That's the number one reason why he was able to hit every shot, fade, draw, low, high, stinger, was because he knew where his club face was at all times because of his hands

Hi, did you know Tiger wrote a book on his swing and golf game back in 2001? Below are some excerpts of him describing the downswing. He repeatedly mentions starting from the ground up with the lower body. So while you may have found a way to create a similar sequence through your own feel, it is a big statement to say you know that Tiger is trying to throw the club from the top of the swing and use a video of him at 5 years old to prove it. He actually talks about why "throwing" from the top of the swing is a bad thing, and I'll include some quotes below on that as well. That being said, it's entirely possible your videos may still be helpful.
    - LOWER BODY LEADS THE WAY On the downswing, the sequence of motion is from the ground up. First you shift your weight to your left leg, then you turn your hips with all you’ve got. The shoulders come next; as you can see in the photo, my shoulders are still square to the target even though my hips are aligned well to the left. The arms and hands come last. If you’ve performed everything in order, they’ll deliver the clubhead into the ball along the correct inside path.
Woods, Tiger. How I Play Golf (pp. 298-299). Grand Central Publishing. Kindle Edition.
    - With the driver, I turn my shoulders as far as they’ll go. My hips turn, too, but my shoulders turn a lot farther. There should be a healthy feeling of tension and resistance down your left side at the top. From here, all I have to do is unwind my hips a bit, and my shoulders will follow, unturning with tremendous speed on the downswing.
    - Good golf is played from the ground up, meaning that my feet, legs and hips initiate the downswing.
Woods, Tiger. How I Play Golf (p. 178). Grand Central Publishing. Kindle Edition.
    - When the shaft extends beyond parallel, you tend to “throw” the club from the top with the hands, rather than letting the unturning of the shoulders transport the club into a sound position on the downswing.
Woods, Tiger. How I Play Golf (p. 298). Grand Central Publishing. Kindle Edition.
    - More Causes of Deep Divots There are other reasons why divots can be deep and irregular. It may be that your ball is positioned too far back in your stance, which necessitates a steep angle of approach with the clubhead. You may be throwing the clubhead at the ball with your arms and hands alone, instead of assisting with your shoulders.
Woods, Tiger. How I Play Golf (p. 239). Grand Central Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Just for fun analysis: Seems to set up for a fade - standing up: Tigers makes a counterclockwise swing (hip rotation), the presenter seems to make a clockwise swing (hip rotates later, he is standing up; just a fraction). My guess would be that Tiger applies rather full strength in this video and the presenters has to be careful not to apply too much power. Not so? In my impression, one should be dragging the club, drawing a counterclockwise circle in the sand while doing it.

I have to disagree that the modern goats swing is/was simple. Before his car accident, he had undergone multiple surgeries as a result of his golf swing mechanics. He is also renowned for having a relentless practice regime - Butch says that to this day it is unequaled by even the most dedicated of the current pros. I would say that his swing is actually extremely complicated which is why is it so difficult, if not impossible to replicate. In the same way that Hogans ‘secret’ is mythical, I think Tigers is too. The ‘secret’ to both is a unique talent combined with incredible hard work - not simple by any means.

I would agree that Tiger worked harder than anyone on the range but my opinion is that he primarily worked on hitting the 9 box grid with all shape types (fade, draw, hook, slice). If you watch Tiger on the range, he is always shaping the ball. He does work on mechanics sometimes but he is always shaping shots. It all starts with feel for him. Tiger can hit all the shots that why he is the best. He doesn't have training aids or even alignment sticks. He is a lot more right brain than left brain
