I think the gouache gave the painting a very vintage pinup styled look! I love how softly the skin and hair blended together! Though, it was nice how the bird and blouse turned out with the water colors, very detailed looking and not as soft. I really enjoyed watching both of them develop into something beautiful. Great video, thank you!
Great demo and commentary. I was a little wary of sitting through a >10 minute video but each minute was filled with applicable content instead of just words. Very useful!
It's hard to watch someone create something so beautiful with so much talent and know that people scoff at the idea of having an art decree or of aspiring to be an artist. What people like you do.. takes so much time to learn, so much talent , skill, and passion... Most people simply can't do what you can and they simply do not see the world the way an artist does to to create original work and skillfully translate it into being. Anyway I know this is just a demonstration of the two mediums and she is using another's artists work as an example, but I was just looking up the word *gouache* because I didn't know the definition and I stumbled upon this video. I just remembered how therapeutic creating art used to be for me and I wish I could spend all my time playing with different mediums. ☺
I personally think watercolor is very hard to use, and I love the solid gouache colors. Whenever I paint, I use gouache. But in your case both turned out beautiful!! I definitely like the rough edges in your watercolor painting, it seems to have much more personality!
+berryberry96 yes, watercolor will give cool random feathery effects and when handled well can look just gorgeous, but I agree that gouache is lovely as well and much easier to use!
Excellent instruction! I've never heard of gouache until maybe a couple of days ago. Thanks for the explanation and the demonstration of the differences.
Budhag Rizzo You're very welcome. Yes, I love gouache (opaque watercolor) as much as transparent watercolor. They can each do different things and by choosing one of the two for a particular project, any subject can be painted well.
I've used both in one painting together (most commonly by using gouache for highlights or corrections in an otherwise transparent watercolor piece, or doing a watercolor background with a gouache subject/foreground), but this is just a clear introduction to them separately so people can compare the two as different products with different properties.
@Harja I'd love to see some examples in your videos! I have water colour paints, but I'm completely self-taught. I'd love to see how these two types of watercolour painting can be used together
Well, I'll be doing more in the future, but here are two examples where watercolor is used with gouache highlights: ruclips.net/video/p5-YAYYOl3U/видео.html ruclips.net/video/ZQKFpYrZMJo/видео.html
Both images are beautiful! I love the effects of both, and I can see how one can use either watercolour or gouache to achieve a certain mood or tone in their artwork!
This was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I just bought a kind of beginners gouache paint set, and someone told me that its like watercolors. So I was like, why not just stick with watercolors then? Whats the difference? Perfect video.
Such a great comparison! I use watercolours for most of my work and only used gouache and acrylics for adding more detail on top. This was excellent to see what a full piece looks like in both mediums. Thanks so much! ^_^
Ah yes! I was indeed thinking that you had fun shooting this and sharing your tips and tricks. That made it more enjoyable to watch, too. It wasn't a chore for you. :)
Great instructional videos! I deeply appreciate your crisp, confident delivery - no long pauses, stammering, giggling, etc. I work primarily in water media and was pleased to discover your channel dedicated to watercolor and gouache.
Seth Tidball Thanks, Seth! Yeah, I have a short attention span myself, and I don't like to watch videos with long, dead spots and very little useful information throughout, so I try to avoid those things in my own videos. And I guess my teaching ability also benefits from my having been a lecturer at a university for some years before I pursued being an author-illustrator full-time. Glad you like my channel!
This has helped me IMMENSELY; I'm an oil painter by trade, but I'm going on a trip and I need a medium that dries a bit faster. This video and your instructions have given me the confidence to invest in a new medium and give it a go. Thank you so much for this!
Wow. I was looking for an explanation of the difference - this is dead, solid, perfect. Great explanation, clear, concise and wonderfully demonstrated. Thank you.
Thank you for this video. Your commentary does not stray, stammer meander, and that shows that you have done your homework. Presentation as they say, is everything. Good job.
That is fantastically helpful. I've been a watercolour artist for 25 years and I've always been utterly at a loss how to work with gouache - this side-by-side is just what I needed!
So glad to be helpful! Comments like yours are what keep me posting on here--I don't get many views on my channel, despite feeling like I share a lot of unique art info. Wishing you many epic gouache adventures!
I finally realised that gouache doesn't have to be as opaque as most people make it! I just gave it a go last night and I'm so happy the medium! I've uploaded my first gouache painting to my account. I'm rather pleased with the outcome.
You've done an outstanding job with your explanations. I was not really interested in the comparison of these two that much, but I still learned a great deal by just watching and listening. Good job!
Beautiful work! I really love the gouache one here, especially the way you've done her hair and face. It really looks like one of the early 1900's prints in the way that the detail shows through and the colour choices. Wonderful :)
Jefferdaughter Oh! I didn't know that, thank you- it's wonderful to learn new things! I would assume that the clarity, smoothness and controllability of the medium would transfer to print well.
+Meghan Biedenbach thanks, you're very kind! It's different for different paintings, but I agree for this painting that the gouache side turned out better.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing, I've never used gouache before and I'm getting a sense of its feel. So far I've used watercolor like gouache with mid-tone method and using white acrylic for highlights.
Two questions if you have time: 1:how much are you watering down Your gouache? It's so translucent. Even when I try watering it down I don't seem to be able to get that effect. 2: what kind of brush do you recommend for gouache? I have read you should not use your watercolor brushes on that medium. Any thoughts would be so much appreciated! Thank you very much for your videos!
+Barbara Vance No problem: 1) Don't know how to quantify it, but I water down the gouache A LOT for under layers and then let it get thicker for the top and last layers, it's an old habit from glazing with watercolors. I don't know which brand you're using, but the cretacolor aquabriques or the schmincke gouache colors I use do water down well and become translucent, but this will vary with brands and how much white you may have added to a tinted color. I just put a dab of gouache into a palette well and add water until it is see through right in the palette well for glazes and later on, use much less water for top layers. 2) I use the same brushes for watercolor and gouache, i.e. all my brushes are watercolor brushes. However, I save the delicate sables for watercolor use only, and use the synthetic nylon or synthethic-natural mix watercolor brushes for gouache as it's thicker and harder on brushes. Hope that helps!
What a great idea!. You are very knowledgeable and it shines through. I find your tutorials to be interesting and a trusted info. source. I now have to go watch your griselle videos. PRO! Thanks
+Matt Val yay! What a sweet comment to see in the morning. :) hope you have have fun watching more of my videos, and good luck with your grisaille adventures!
do you teach? I thought your breakdown was lovely in terms of how direct and easy it was to follow. Also, your editing in the video was solid. nicely done!
Beautiful illustration and great information delivered effectively. Really appreciate the side by side comparison, which helped me understand. Thanks for sharing, Hajra!
I appreciate this demonstration. I have some gouache on hand, but haven't "figured it out". This was a great introduction. I also appreciated the application of the grisaille. I have been playing with this concept recently in my drawings. It really enlivens the simple drawing. So dynamic. The subsequent wash can be so simple as a final step. As a local teacher has said, "Gray does the work and the color gets all the praise." Thanks for doing this demo. (Seattle. January 2016)
+Gretchen Williams what a fun and awesome comment to read! thanks! Yeah, values do get a lot of credit as far as painting techniques go, which makes sense given how effective well done values are. As another artist put it, "painting is like life: As long as you get your values right, the rest is easy!"
I love watching people paint. As a child, I would watch Bob Ross obsessively. You have that same calming effect. I really think I could watch your videos for hours. I like to paint, but I find that when I try to do nature scenery, my colors are very vibrant. I know that may not be as natural, but it is just how I like it. I am nowhere as good as you though.
+K. Witt yes, also love how soothing Bob Ross is, I'm nowhere near as calming, trust me, but thanks for your kind comment. Vibrant colors look lovely and tweaking colors to add a personal mood or twist is exactly what artists are supposed to do, so good for you. :)
Beautiful work! I've been experimenting with watercolors. It's a lovely medium, but working light to dark is really challenging! I ordered a primary color gouache set & I'm even more excited to try them out after seeing your videos!
+Natalie Strickel how wonderful, Natalie! Hope you have fun with your gouache and glad I helped make the prospect more exciting. Yeah, watercolor is fun and gives lovely effects, but can be very challenging as well.
i'm only starting to get into painting again. thank you for these videos, this has helped me so much. especially the making watercolors into gouache tip.
This video was incredibly helpful! I am regularly a watercolor painter, but am really excited and more confident about trying gouache after watching this! Thank you!
wow this is incredible. This is super helpful bc watercolor is my main medium but ive been seeing a lot of gouache lately and wanna give it a try so this really helped see the differences before i get started. also both of these are beautiful
I got a starter assortment of gouaches without realizing how hard it is to find actual instruction in the medium, and I don't paint in watercolors either, so this video is one of the most encouraging thing I've seen in a while!
kendalchen I'm happy to hear that! Good luck with your painting, and I plan on doing more gouache videos as the several I've done so far have been so well received.
Gouache really looks like fun to use. I have only three primary's in this and have not yet tried them. I don't know why I never did. Tubes just sitting there.
awesome, wishing you epic gouache adventures! here's a link to my gouache vids playlist if you want to check them out for more info: ruclips.net/p/PLAMQu8Nf_JPUHlwX2po2Tlg60-adaIUXe
New subscriber! Just started watching your videos last night, and I have to say, they are some of the most informative I have seen on RUclips. Thank you! I'm new to the watercolor world, so this is all very helpful.
Really enjoyed this...it's so nice to be introduced to you through Steve and Marty's live stream which I just watched. I'm intrigued by the grisaille technnique...Didn't know there was a formal name for it. I've also been a huge fan of Alphonse Mucha since the 80s when I studied costume design in grad school. Big fan of Erte, Art Deco, Art Nouveau periods as well...I've subscribed and look forward to viewing your videos. Cheers!
Thanks so much, Liz! I had a ton of fun chatting with those two lovely gents last night. Welcome to my channel of Watercolor & Wizardry, lovely to have you subscribed! Here's a few vid links with an Erte study, Mucha studies, and a grisaille playlist in case you're interested: Erte study: ruclips.net/video/Rtbq7ARAW7w/видео.html Mucha studies: ruclips.net/video/ZxNW3ypYBwU/видео.html ruclips.net/video/ilie5YpS5nE/видео.html Grisaille playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLAMQu8Nf_JPVx9l7Mf3u6jYjvX_7fGCbX
+Pati Pena (Daisy Avenger) You're very welcome, and thanks for your kind words. Hope you enjoy my other videos and good luck with your watercolor and gouache endeavors!
This is why I find watercolor such a challenge....I’ve always in mediums I’ve used worked dark to light....so hard to turn that around, much harder than I thought it would be. What about mixing these two mediums, using both? I’ve done a few WC paintings, and used gouache in some areas, like where I needed a touch of white, or wanted to highlight something.
Wow, Truly Amazing, Your demonstration should be used around the world as the perfect way to demonstrate art technique . Your artwork is amazing, Your speaking is amazing, your looks is even more amazing.
Great video - I’m out to buy some gouache paint to give it a go ! I’m an oil painter, but I like the qualities of gouache - correctable, fast drying and good for fast plein air sketching!
+uselesspace thanks! yeah, in this particular demo, I liked the gouache better. In this one, though, I liked the watercolor better: ruclips.net/video/ctZKBqXmIXU/видео.html
Very skilled! I just got frustrated with a painting I worked all day on, that was sucking really bad; so I tore it up, lol! But after watching this video, it was a good reminder that you only get better if you keep trying.
Kim Cornell Thanks! Yes, practice does help. :) And don't worry, I've torn up my share of paintings and more, (and will probably keep doing that every now and again!), and some of them, looking back, I might have wanted to keep... :P
Thank you so much for this, I've only just started with gouache and your video has been extremely helpful so thanks. ^___^ Your art is also beautiful, this piece reminds me of a etre style 1920's piece.
you're very welcome! I probably won't be working in tempera again for a long time, but I'll look your comment up and let you know if I do, and best of luck on your painting adventures!
+Hajra Meeks I was looking for info to know the differences about témpera now it's ok someone told me about the differences between watercolor, gouache, and témpera. so thank you anyway.
Thanks for your compareson. Like it very much. Unfortunately we can't pick some things from watercolor and some from gouache. We must to choose. Well, maybe that's even better for ours creativity 😉
Very informative, thank you very much, Hajra! BTW, I really admire your courage of working on top of your laptop without worrying your ink will splash on it. Good job!
+Jet W ha! thanks! I sort of have to work on my laptop when filming otherwise the reference on screen is too far away, and yes, a reckless attitude helps get that going...
I have been experimenting with Water Colors, Gouache, and water soluable media to make backgrounds for animated cartoons that I'm going to make with anime studio.
wow, that sounds amazing. you should share a video or image scan of that sometime. I've always wanted to make cartoons or stop motion movies--but, too many interesting things to put on a list and way too little time to do them!
Hajra Meeks I know just what you mean about way too many things, I have spread myself way too thin with several different hobbies,LOL I will share some work soon
This video was really needed. You found the niche for explaining gouache. I'm on to learn Grisaille (arg, those French!) See you on the flip side Hajra
What a great video!! I just stumbles across your channel and I'm so glad! You are very skilled and this was incredibly informative. I loved the hair, especially in the gouache portrait and would love a more in depth explanation of how you did this - but I'm about to check out your channel now so maybe it is covered elsewhere :-) Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
You're welcome and thanks, glad you like my channel. :D You can see me paint hair in numerous other videos with women, here are links to two of them: ruclips.net/video/kNL8v6oZDrw/видео.html ruclips.net/video/ctZKBqXmIXU/видео.html
ArtOfBh1 Yes, people are more intimidating than other subjects. I suggest students try grisaille with botanical subjects, then birds, then other animals and people. Of course, it's all specific to the individual though. Thanks so much for your sweet comments!
Daniel MnA Thanks! In my opinion, the watercolor one can be just as pretty, it's just the colors I picked were a unintentionally a bit too warm for this illustration, which is too bad--I hope it doesn't turn people off to the possibilities of transparent watercolor.
Hi Hajra, I adore your style of teaching ! I just ordered two gouache sets from Holbein to learn some techniques. I did look at your favorite paint recommendation and it is next on my list after much practice and enjoyment. Best Wishes J
Mistress JHolly Wonderful, and thanks for your sweet comments. Holbein is a good brand, too, as well as Sennelier, and both are more affordable than my favorite Schmincke. These are all artist quality paints and should give similar results.
Hajra Meeks Lots of excitement today my Holbein watercolor sets arrived today. I received the 18 set of 5 ml watercolors, the 18 set of 5 ml gouache and the 12 set of 15 ml designer gouache. I purchased Strathmore series 500 8 x 10 and 11 x 14 ready cut watercolor paper 140 lb because it was on sale ( $24 for 36 sheets total @ Blicks art supply). My hands are small so I decided to get a travel set of brushes Richeson Plein Air rather than use the long handled brushes I had that seem like whispy swords rather than elegant brushes to me, but I will feel my way around as I play. Thank you for the inspiration to try various techniques.. By the way, I liked your goat illustrations on your website, I am sure if you keep telling stories about lovely animals lots more will appear in your life. J and the pups, birdy friends and critters that play in Florida.
Mistress JHolly Yay! I'm so excited for you! Hope you have all sorts of great painting adventures! I agree about short-handled brushes, I only have short handled brushes myself. Long handled brushes are more suited for oil painting rather than most watercolor. Yeah, I used to have pet goats and a rabbit and there were also birds and a fox and deer and a skunk that used to come by since I put food out when I lived in the hills near Yosemite National Park. It was a lot of fun having land and space and all those animals, they bring you so much peace. Again, best wishes to you and all your buds, and happy painting!
Ok, I have a question. I just watched the video and loved it. :) I was looking at her hair, and I like that the watercolor side is more red and rich and warm, but I like the depth and detail in the in gouache side. It made me wonder... could you go back over the gouache side with red watercolor and make it more rich? Like, just a sheer, all-over, watery, red layer to give it some warmth? Or is it best not to mix the two mediums on top of each other? Would that mess up all the detail that you had in there?
+Jenn Hoff well, you can put watercolor glazes under gouache paint (which can go over top), but putting transparent watercolor or gouache glazes OVER gouache usually smears everything. That's one of the few downsides to gouache--glazing doesn't work. If you want to glaze, you have to work in watercolors, acrylics, or oils. SO, if you wanted to make the gouache side hair redder, you'd have to do it the slower way, just patch in some redder hair over the top with gouache in an opaque layer, but not a watery glaze otherwise it'll smear or crack.
Thanks so much, very kind of you! Well, I freehand draw my sketches on thin vellum and then they can stick around to be reused and transferred to thicker paper, you can see me explain the process here: ruclips.net/video/HBhCVYpi0Dg/видео.html
+kkulppang thanks for your comment and glad you liked the video and seeing the two versions develop!
A lot of midcentury illustrations, if not most of them, were executed in gouache, so it checks out.
Great demo and commentary. I was a little wary of sitting through a >10 minute video but each minute was filled with applicable content instead of just words. Very useful!
+JayAntoinette Thanks! I try not to bore people, glad it works sometimes. :)
It's hard to watch someone create something so beautiful with so much talent and know that people scoff at the idea of having an art decree or of aspiring to be an artist. Your voice is very soothing.
+Sophia V thanks! i've always felt I speak too fast to be soothing, but it's so sweet that someone thinks otherwise! :)
This is a fantastic demonstration of the differences in watercolor and gouache. You are a wonderful teacher. Thank you for posting. Well done!
+Karen Wolcott Illustration thanks, how kind of you!

A. Catherine Duthie So happy to help! Happy painting and traveling!
One of the most detailled and informative tutorials on how to use gouache I've seen. Big thumbs up!
Wow. I was looking for an explanation of the difference - this is dead, solid, perfect. Great explanation, clear, concise and wonderfully demonstrated. Thank you.
+Denis Bernicky you're very welcome. It's wonderful when someone appreciates the hard work that goes into a video like this one!
Thank you for this video. Your commentary does not stray, stammer meander, and that shows that you have done your homework. Presentation as they say, is everything. Good job.
Thanks for the support and detailed input, Tim, it is appreciated. Wishing you the best on your art adventures!

I love both of them, very beautifully put together!
+Nery Padron thanks, i love both mediums (watercolor and gouache) so I always want people to like both versions; I'm glad YOU do! :)
they were both beautiful and well done! I think I prefer the gouache better however haha
+Meghan Biedenbach thanks, you're very kind! It's different for different paintings, but I agree for this painting that the gouache side turned out better.
You're welcome ^.^
are you the megan biendenbach

I agree. Landscapes are an example where watercolor usually wins.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing, I've never used gouache before and I'm getting a sense of its feel. So far I've used watercolor like gouache with mid-tone method and using white acrylic for highlights.

Chen Chen. Well, thank you ever so much! You are a viewer of high quality. :)
Good tutorial! I learned a lot from your comparisons of these two mediums!
+cecile dougherty thanks, so happy you found this useful!
Wow! I love all the information you covered. You certainly know your stuff! Great video.
+Golighty678 Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! :)
wow, that was pretty cool. I love how directly you compare the two mediums. thanks for sharing!
glad you liked it! :D
do you teach? I thought your breakdown was lovely in terms of how direct and easy it was to follow. Also, your editing in the video was solid. nicely done!
thanks! yeah, i taught as a university lecturer for four years.
I tend to use these mediums together..I can't even remember how I got into gouache. lol I love how they both came out.
thanks! yes, they are fun together. :)
Beautiful illustration and great information delivered effectively. Really appreciate the side by side comparison, which helped me understand. Thanks for sharing, Hajra!
You're very welcome, Leah, so happy to be useful and appreciate your supportive comment!

+Bernadette MaryAnn Rostenkowski-Wolowitz (Alice Butler) XD
+K. Witt yes, also love how soothing Bob Ross is, I'm nowhere near as calming, trust me, but thanks for your kind comment. Vibrant colors look lovely and tweaking colors to add a personal mood or twist is exactly what artists are supposed to do, so good for you. :)
This is so helpful and enlightening. Fantastic walk through as well, i will definitely be using your tips in the future!
What a wonderful thing to read in the morning! Thanks so much, and so glad to be helpful! :D
You are an excellent artist and teacher. Thanks for the information.
you're very welcome, and thanks so much for appreciating the time and effort i put into my video.
This was definitely helpful. I haven't had a chance to work with gouache and had wondered about it. TFS
You're very welcome, glad to help!
You did such a great job with this demonstration... Excellent... Thank you.
+ThatOldBiddy you're very welcome, glad you enjoyed it!
i'm only starting to get into painting again. thank you for these videos, this has helped me so much. especially the making watercolors into gouache tip.
wiggitywhacked yay! glad to be helpful. best of luck with your art journey. :)

Lovely work. Thank you for sharing it.
+mariteri15000 you're very welcome! :)
wow you are a real talented artist .please do some digital painting video !
wow this is incredible. This is super helpful bc watercolor is my main medium but ive been seeing a lot of gouache lately and wanna give it a try so this really helped see the differences before i get started. also both of these are beautiful
thanks so much, so kind of you. wishing you epic painting adventures! :)
I loved it. Thanks for teaching these mediuns.
+Monique de Moraes Thanks, your appreciation is most welcome!
Gouache really looks like fun to use. I have only three primary's in this and have not yet tried them. I don't know why I never did. Tubes just sitting there.
Thanks for sharing! This makes me want to try out both of these mediums
You're welcome, and I hope you do--epic painting adventures to you!
thank you so much :)
Excellent narration! I learned a lot. thanks!
you're very welcome! :)
Thank you Hajra you are very talented 👍
You're so very welcome, Bev! :D
Fun demonstration-thanks! I just got some gouache after using watercolor for about a year.
+Christine Schmidt you're very welcome, and good luck on your gouache adventures!

I really love this video. I'm new to the watercolor world and have really appreciated examples like this! :)
+Samara Cole thanks a lot, I'm so happy to help introduce you to watercolor and gouache. Hope you have many fun painting adventures!
New subscriber! Just started watching your videos last night, and I have to say, they are some of the most informative I have seen on RUclips. Thank you! I'm new to the watercolor world, so this is all very helpful.
FarlyCreates Well, welcome to my channel! And I'm so happy you are finding my videos helpful! regards, hajra
both have personality and I like how they look. I prefer watercolour for more abstract paintings but you did great in both ✌
thanks, how nice of you! :)
Here's a few vid links with an Erte study, Mucha studies, and a grisaille playlist in case you're interested:

Great review, really appreciate it. Very thorough and good use of the time!
+Laura Mansfield thanks! yeah, i try not to have any "dead space" in my videos and I find it so annoying in other peoples' videos. :p
just great!!! its amazing the results of both, the explanation helpme a lot! thanks you so much for sharing your knowledge
you're very welcome, epic painting adventures to you!
thanks a lot!!!!
Yes, Gouache definitely can be used just for highlights at the end of a watercolor piece, people have done that for centuries.
Wow, Truly Amazing, Your demonstration should be used around the world as the perfect way to demonstrate art technique . Your artwork is amazing, Your speaking is amazing, your looks is even more amazing.
:D :D How extremely sweet of you!
this is so helpful. thank you.
you're very kind, and you're very welcome. :D
Its both pretty
thanks! :D
Thank you! Very well done and informative.
Debra Carrier-Perry You're very welcome, I'm glad you liked it!
Great video - I’m out to buy some gouache paint to give it a go !
I’m an oil painter, but I like the qualities of gouache - correctable, fast drying and good for fast plein air sketching!
Thanks! And how fun that you are starting out in gouache--I think as an oil painter you will enjoy it immensely. Wishing you epic painting adventures!
very helpful, i've only used gouache once but now i'm excited to try it some more!
yay! wishing you epic gouache adventures! :D
Wow, very helpful!! Thanks for this!
you're very welcome!
They both look great! I think I like the gouache one better.
+uselesspace thanks! yeah, in this particular demo, I liked the gouache better. In this one, though, I liked the watercolor better: ruclips.net/video/ctZKBqXmIXU/видео.html
this is so informative! thank you for making this video :)
this is gorgeous
thanks, it was one of my favorite pieces I ever painted as 2 studies!
Your channel keeps me inspired .. Thank U🌻
***** awwww...you're so sweet! thanks for keeping me motivated!
Thank you for the lesson!
+Heather Whitlock-Shoppa you're very welcome!
Should always give finished work aging time before trashing it. We all have work we wish we would've kept. The best tip u give...keep practicing
Thank you so much for this, I've only just started with gouache and your video has been extremely helpful so thanks. ^___^ Your art is also beautiful, this piece reminds me of a etre style 1920's piece.
+K Mocks Yes, I love the Art Nouveau style, and demo was done using an old flapper era Henry Clive pastel piece as a reference.
Very helpful! Thank you for this video.
You're very welcome, and thanks!
thank you so much for this video! can you make a comparison with tempera paints?
you're very welcome!
It has been a very long time since i used Gouache, i think i will give it another try. Excellent artwork and video,,:)
Thanks so much! Yes, gouache is great fun if you also enjoy transparent watercolor.
we have to use both because i think watercolor is good for blending (like on the moon) and guache is better for the shades (maybe)
Well, you can use either watercolor or gouach by itself, or both together--all 3 options can make beautiful paintings.
Nice little video. Very interesting.
+Bluebuthappy182 thanks!
Thanks for your compareson. Like it very much. Unfortunately we can't pick some things from watercolor and some from gouache. We must to choose. Well, maybe that's even better for ours creativity 😉
you're very welcome! And, yes, I feel the same way, and the way I handle that is I use BOTH watercolor and gouache so I don't have to choose one! :D
Very informative, thank you very much, Hajra! BTW, I really admire your courage of working on top of your laptop without worrying your ink will splash on it. Good job!
+Jet W ha! thanks! I sort of have to work on my laptop when filming otherwise the reference on screen is too far away, and yes, a reckless attitude helps get that going...
this was heaps good, helped me out heaps, thankyou!!
Jevith you're very welcome!
Greetings from Utah. Terrific video. Thanks! Subbed.
Wonderful, and welcome to my channel of Watercolor & Wizardry!
I'm on to learn Grisaille (arg, those French!)
See you on the flip side Hajra
+Bodhi Rus :) Good luck with the gouache and grisaille! (yeesh, the both together are even more of a mouthful...)
Utterly beautiful! I always wondered how the grisaille effect works on skin tone (always been too afraid to try!).
ArtOfBh1 Yes, people are more intimidating than other subjects. I suggest students try grisaille with botanical subjects, then birds, then other animals and people. Of course, it's all specific to the individual though. Thanks so much for your sweet comments!
The gouache one is so pretty! 😃 I like the watercolour bird tho!!
I know you posted this a while ago but THIS IS SO HELPFUL thank you so much for taking the time to create this!
You're so very welcome, glad you found it useful. :D
Loved this. Thanks!
you're very welcome!
This was just what I needed. Very informative! Thanks!
So glad to hear it, and you're very welcome. Wishing you epic painting adventures!
This was really useful thanks.
you're very welcome, wishing you epic art adventures!
From one artist to another, Bravo! Great instructions and amazing talent!!! What do you use for your tracing?
Thanks so much, very kind of you! Well, I freehand draw my sketches on thin vellum and then they can stick around to be reused and transferred to thicker paper, you can see me explain the process here: ruclips.net/video/HBhCVYpi0Dg/видео.html
Great work and explanation:)
thanks so much. :D
