I always admired double P's. Didn't have one in my collection so I have Tom Clement custom build me one, the bass is a beast and a work of art. I may have him do a 2nd one with double reverse P's on a fretless.
I have a double P made but I wanted 24 frets and I had the measurements from a BC Rich Eagle that I furnished to the builder and the pickups are reversed. Sounds killer.
Happy to see you pull the double P out I have always loved this bass! It has such a vibe and amazing tone! Shada ka ka brother!! Droppin the wisdom for the young kats as always!
I added a jazz pickup near the bridge on my Mexican P-bass. It's never been that great. I didn't know until after the fact that I couldn't have both pickups turned up all of the way. The sound gets real thin. I know now that it is due to the P pickup being a humbucker in a sense with the 2 pieces helping to cancel noise and that the J is a single coil (although my J is supposedly a stacked J). I wish I had added a 2nd P instead. Your bass sounds amazing!
Seems like there's a hole below your neck pickup for a dial or switch maybe? Curious what your setup was or what that hole is/used to be for. Wild bass!
😄I have the same relationship with flat wound strings. I like the sound once in a while, but I don't want to sideline a bass by leaving flats on it full time.
Yes indeed...but he moved the original neck pup location closer to the neck and added the bridge position P... which, imo, loses "that P tone" position sound. Please don't get me wrong, bass community, I love that bass and I would trade all of mine for that one and has been on so many recordings we've all heard. This is also why I'm not fond of reverse P's that so many companies seem to be doing nowadays...I could go on for days but I have a double P to assemble in the shop!!!
Sent you that picture of my Vox standard with the same pick ups at the bridge, love that sound. Jaydees are double P's, which is why they sound amazing 😍
That sounds ace. Reminds me of the bc rich that wields the same Model Ps. Fgn made something like this with 2 QP which are beastly. Lowendlobster modded one with 2x Dimarzio relentless. Sounded absolutely fucking crazy!!!!!!!!!
What he did not say is how the bridge pickups were wired. I've just (last week) replaced my p bass pickup to Dimarzio DP122. I had it wired through a switch for double sound. Meaning the pickups are wired in series (which is normal) or parallel. The range of sounds I now get when in parallel mode sounds suspiciously like the bridge pickup. It's like having a whole new bass. Dose anyone know how they are wired ?
That’s a beautiful looking (and sounding) bass. Tremendous and inspirational playing as always. Question: Did I spot a battery compartment at the back of this ‘66 beauty? Are you running a preamp with the Dimarzio pickups?
"Cuz its my bass!" Preach bassman preach! I have a 1984 Washburn Force bass I decorated with sparkle fingernail polish on the black pickguard and headstock along with some 1940s pinup girls on the body and some 60s white dice I had drilled to make knobs, why? CUZ ITS MY BASS and I wanted something 1 of a kind that looked as cool as it sounded, which it does 🤣
Thank you for the video and the explanation. Jerry Preston (who played with Macro Parker) used a double P. And he sounded really good and Funk. Listen to "Shake everything you got" as an example of his sound. ruclips.net/video/xTfRjihu2rY/видео.html
I have a passive bass with p body and double p (bottom reverse) seymour duncuns, with a j neck and sounds H U G E... And i bought it with MY MONEY!!!!!
the double P combo is a secret weapon of killer tone
I watched this during breakfast and found myself buying a chisel and drilling before lunch.
Got that growl like my 77 B.C. Rich Eagle bass. Those old DiMarzio double Ps are awesome.
I played a double P back in the day and all I can say is...Shada Ka Ka!! I was awesome sounding indeed!
Bass legend Lee Sklar has a “Frankenstein “ Bass that has a double p setup with EMG pickups
John Lodge of The Moody Blues played a Double P for years . I heard them live and the bass was Double Thick !
Sounds great. You play great. Your videos are educational and funny. Keep doing it. Keep having fun. I am.
We need to help Johnny & Hootie hit 100k! Such a fun and educational channel.
Thnx Johnny. I took all my actives out. Back to basics.
The flavor is in the fingers!
Johnny is a master !!!

You ain’t lying about that Double P tone!
“Basses that sound like them”. Too true!
I love the vintage dimarzio pups on my PB. You have double bubble 😎
Nice vid , subbed and liked.
I built a firebird bass with a P neck and of course double Ps and a Tone Monster pre. I love it.

Double P gang stand up ❗❕❗❕❗
I put 2 emg px in my Yamaha. It is a weapon now. The thump? Check, the sting? Got it
I could watch JLL all day, every day. His enthusiasm is through the roof...

Great Video bro, thanks for always staying true to the music and the sound. That true raw sound is coming back yeah lol
What a pretty humbucking sound 😄

I love double P basses!
truth told right here on this one
Leland Sklar’s homemade Frankenstein bass played on hundreds of records is a double P.

As a p worshipper, that looks as funky as that tone! With that other pickup, it has a mid scoop but with a chunkier vibe than a j, very unique.
Been wanting a double p for a while, May be a nice future project. What electronics do you have in it??
Double P is good compromise between jazz bass and g&L L2000
That sounds ace. Reminds me of the bc rich that wields the same Model Ps.

I think that bass is screaming for a 3rd 'P bass' pickup right in front of the neck!😈
So cool! I put a Rick 4003 pup in the bridge position of my P and I don't think I'll ever go back to PJ
Such truth about bass tone said here. 🤟thank you Mr. Long!!!
Man, Fender used to sell a double P, I wanted one as a kid but then I saw Louis Johnson and his StingRay and that was it!
Sweet bass Johnny ‼️
you can get many tones out of 1 bass, but every bass has its own character
LA 12 with no horn in it❤❤❤❤❤❤
What about a triple P?
looks like there's definitely room for a third pickup on there... jus' sayin' ;-)
thanks that was fun.
ONE NOTE,,my brother!
MEGA -P Bass X2 !

Bootjak7@yahoo.com

Sounds so so dope and I love the J bass sound but you may have just converted me to the church of double p!!
I would like to have me one of them
Because it’s my bass 😆
Nice vid. Keep it real bro. Happy bhm
Why would you do that to a 66 p!!
Simple that's my desired bass, plus it's sounds so cool
