The Uni-Vibe Chorus/Vibrato is one of the most iconic effects in music history. Since the late '60s, groundbreaking guitar players have used it to expand the tonal and textural palette of the electric guitar.
The MXR team has just remastered the classic effect for modern players. The MXR Chorus/Vibrato delivers the same chewy, Leslie-sounding goodness with a smaller footprint.
With its simple three-knob interface, you can dial up the iconic effect to your taste in short order. First, use the VIBE switch to select either Chorus Mode-dry signal mixed with pitch-shifted signal-or Vibrato Mode-only pitch-shifted signal. Then, use the LEVEL control to set the effect volume, the SPEED control to set the sweep rate, and the DEPTH control to set overall intensity.
The MXR Uni-Vibe Chorus/Vibrato comes in a Phase 90-sized housing-a fraction of the size and weight of the original Uni-Vibe pedal-and features true bypass switching. Perfect for taking this lush, swirly pedal out on the road.
MXR M68 Uni-Vibe Features:
Iconic chorus/vibrato true to the classic lte 60's
Simple three knob interface
Small footprint
True bypass
9v operation
My favorite modulation pedal is and will ever be the vibrato (Malekko Vibrato, TC Shaker Vibrato, etc). But I always wanted something else too, like a phaser. After many years using many and many "all in one" pedals (Hardwire, EFX Pedals, etc) I really fell in love with this one.
Nowadays this is my favorite mod pedal for a live situation. It has a glorious Univibe sound, very, very beatiful. The vibrato mode does not have a pitch range as deep as a proper vibrato pedal, but it works very well for subtle waves. The speed range is perfect. Exactly what you would musically use, nor much nor less.
Fantastic demo, really shows how you can get so many great sounds from this pedal.
The 'song' you played in the beginning was beautiful.
Thanks a lot!
the more univibe comparisons i watch and listen too the more i realize, you can't tell much difference because of the limitations of the medium through which we are listening. They all sound about the same. an inhouse audition is the only real way to tell what you like and don't like.
bar-none... hands down... YOU sir are the baddest ass reviewer on RUclips. Your playing is ALWAYS stellar!
this guy is indeed the baddest assreviewer on youtube! he doesn't even review any ass!
Nothing on this planet sounds so great as a Univibe. This singular signature was given life by Hendrix and demonstrated by Trower that that life is a long one.
Hoping to replicate the swirling notes found in Leslie organ cabinets, something wonderful was wrought and is readily found in the signal chain of...well, virtually everybody. I love to have mine first wet signal immediately after my guitar, a long, lazy sweep (think Trower's use in "Bridge of Sighs"); use this in conjunction with a reverse echo and prepare to launch!
This new MXR UNI-VIBE pedal is actually the same vibe pedal that MXR made available about a year ago for the Jimi Hendrix 70th Anniversary Tribute pedals, wah, fuzz, octavio and the "univibe" Same pedal with different graphics.
I've said it before, but Mike is without doubt one of the best guitar players I've heard.
If only all pedal/gear demonstrations could be half as cool as this
played the riff from shine on you crazy diamond, amazing.
How can you not?
Cool pedal. I've been waiting for a good Vibe to come out that's not so expensive. Dig that first tune you were playing Mike, I'd like to hear the rest of it! Great demo and playing as always.
Thanks for watching!
-Mike
Great performance! I own this pedal and love it.
I just gotta say it. I love the first few songs! They are so beautiful. I was trying to resist and just read and listen. but I couldn't handle it... just had to say something!! Inspiring!
Thanks eh!
man ive actually sat here with that first jam on repeat, fuck its good
Good demo; it really shows the entire range of this device. Thanks for the insight.
Wohoho, some Jimi vibes right there, awesome play!
Excellent playing sir ... really shows off this pedal beautifully !
Cool! Very exhaustive demo and excellent performance
Really good. Probably better than my Micro-Vibe which I have been hanging on to for quite a bit. Definitely a deeper and more resonant response, more like the original Hendrix tone.
Awesome effect. It's not a chorus, not a flange, not a vibrato. It's a Uni-Vibe!
After having this a couple of years n having mixed feelings on it, I think it’s probably better than a photocell type.
I still have a rotovibe from the 90’s as well
Great demo!
El pedal suena increible pero tu magia para tocar la guitarra es lo mas importante!!
Sold my Deja for this 💥Love it !
excellent performance : O
Thank you!
-Mike
Mike, playing is always to notch, super tasty. What drum loops do you generally use? Do you run them through a looper, or just record everything first on a comp?
a beautiful pedal ,a great review ,as always, well done Mike !...
Thanks! It's easy when the pedal sounds good!
I totally agree ! ... :)
great tones man!!!
Thanks for watching!
this sounds soooooooo good to me... is it just me?
Every forum talks about how bad this is, and every quality demo sounds great. I think I’ll trust my ears. The circuit may not be 100% authentic, but it sounds good, and that’s more important. I’m actually thinking the less exaggerated throb will work better with humbuckers, which is what I usually use.
I think you’re right about the less exaggerated throb and humbuckers. I have a very nice Wilson Effects Vibe that I love, but the pulse of that can almost make me seasick. I’m going to pick up the M68 Univibe for my small jam pedalboard, and I doubt anyone’s gonna complain about the lack of tiny bulbs in it.
fabulous demo as usual thank you these are £119.00 in the UK but that the price for living here lol
Oh and right on! for playing the Beatles. That was cool.
Love that song
Now that's how to do a review...totally amazing man😋
thats some great guitar playing!
I bought this Excellent pedal plus the OCD pedal , an Eric Clapton Stratocaster and a 1965 Fender Deluxe Reverb amp . Very Trower ish !!!!
Sounds amazing!
And great guitar player as well ;-)
Thomas Papoulakis Thanks!
-Mike
oh jeah. good demo. thx for the music in the first half. not just plinking some srings. wtg.
Thanks for watching!
Oh My F==== God~!! from MXR, Uni-vibe?!!! Let's go to the market```
I love the song around 3:00. What is it? I can't stop listening. Great demo btw, I'll have my hands on one soon. Had to sell my fulltone big box last year :(
Just a made up groove for the demo... Kind of a Hendrix thing i guess.. Thanks!
PrymaxeVintage first time that i come here to write a comment... but that song was just brilliant! i had to comment it
I'll stay with my Electro Harmonix Good Vibes Uni Vibe its Authentic all the way to the photo cells
Really nice demo, thank you.
It sounds lovely, but MXR really should have given it an expression pedal jack.
Dunlop makes that pedal. It's called the Rotovibe.
Urf! Excellent tones and jams, man!
Which do you prefer, this, or the EQD Depths?? :)
NICE !
Total flaccid hashback..
Univibe will always live on my board.. Tremendous playing also..
Are these the same as a rotovibe ??? Just like in pedal form?? Frick I love my rotovibe
What's the first song? It's veeery beautiful and relaxing!
Angie by The Rolling Stones
Does it still sell for $130? What part of the pedal chain would it go in? Say, if a person used the effects loop of the amp, and put some pedals there, and some going into the amp input.. where does this one go, and in what order for max effectiveness? Is this the very cheapest Univibe pedal?
Sounds awesome, Dry Bell Uni Vibes for 700 dollars? Sounds identical to my ears,
The first few settings did sound a bit like the thing but in general i wouldn't recommend this pedal if theres peeps that want the true bypass, especially since this one doesnt have the real photocells, although i find this geared towards pedal friendly peeps that want this for "chrous/phaser" type of sound.
Hi...Is this basically a Uni-Vibe with a chorus added? Also, one thing I am afraid of with something like this, although it sounds great in this video, is the dreaded volume drop problem. If this is a uni-vibe and chorus combined, I am guessing that it has digital circuitry to fit it in a box this small which means you run the risk of volume drop, but obviously that is not always the case.
***** They made it seem like it was a chorus & uni-vibe...I definitely know the difference between the two -- trust me. :) My current pedal board has more MXR than anything else, and the only boutique pedal it has on it is a Hartman Flanger. The only reason I got that was because I wanted an electric mistress that did not eat up 9x5" of real estate. So, in other words, the extra $100 was worth the space saved for me. :) I also don't seek vintage stuff (although I have a couple pieces). I agree, the snobby stuff is not necessarily the best.
The univibe always had a "chorus" mode.
I guess people say it’s the same pedal that was out for a while .....like it was a limited edition?? Hendrix face with red paint??
Well that was also MXR and it was pretty noisy....Lots of hiss in the sweep....
Before I get one for either GC or MF I have to hear one first in real time......I can’t take the hiss.....
Even the inexpensive (green) DE hissed but not as bad and was CHEAP.....
Problem with the DE vibe was way to much volume drop and no way to recover....
They even used photo cells instead of the FET deal.......
The first song sounds like something off the soundtrack for Silent Hill video games (which is a good thing)
pearl jam solo
I like the sound quality of this effect. But one thing I've learned is its not good to listen to this effect too much. It could literally give you Hendrixitis and Policia (aka Brain Wobble), impairing one's ability to come up with fresh and original ideas. Still a cool effect to have in your stompbox arsenal...
Yeh,but I can't play Little Wing yet.
I think they ask you to play it before your'e allowed to purchase it.
How does it sound on low strings?? I play 7 and 8-string, and want to know if the bass stays low or washes away?
Hey Mike! How is this pedal compared to the Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe? Which one is better for Gilmour/Hendrix stuff? I'm particularly interested on Gilmour's sound :)
Did you try the voodoo lab? I found it very muffling, didn't like it really. This seems to be more clearer, and the level knob is a nice touch.
We are Gruhak No, I didn't try the VoodooLab, but I think it is the only univibe at a reasonable price (besides this one, of course). Do you know any better alternative to these two without spending more than 200€?
I haven't tried the Voodoo Lab
when i click the Vibe button i engaged the chorus or the vibrato?
giugitzu vibrato
THE BEGINNING SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE A SONG I RECORDED A YEAR AGO. Great minds??
'nd... what about the Pickle Vibe from Lovepedal?
I bought one, but sold it in the first day… In my opinion, its a phase pedal, not a vibe effect.
+Rivas Pavlawski Pickle sucks as a vibe. more phaser IMHO
this or eqd the depths?
Not bad at all especially for the price & size. Not quite like the real thing but not quite the real price either.
Well, it is unmistakeably a vibe and i think it sounds pretty good. Would love to hear it trough a cranked Marshall though, and with a fuzz. The majority of vibe/phase pedals sound good clean, but i tried a couple of them as stated above and they didn't all sound that good
We are Gruhak
My favorites have been the MJM sixties vibe and the Jam pedals retro vibe. And the new Fulltone MDV-3 which I currently have. I had the Hendrix re issue Uni Vibe one of these last year and I sent it back. Also the Bearfoot FX vibe is very nice in that you get a lot of that "pulsar effect" at lower volume.Plus the Bearfoot fx vibe can run on a 9 volt battery if need be. I have a demo of the Bearfoot FX slow speed version up.
Mike, where would you put this pedal in your chain? Before or after dirt?
Probably before dirt
PrymaxeVintage
Thanks!! Your videos are excellent. I burned my whole data plan streaming your Memory Lane Jr vid last month!!
PrymaxeVintage and if i use it with gain?
But it's possible connect, in any way, to a foot controller ???????????
its the same as the jimi hendrix 70th anaversiry univibe without the art work
Yep, it sounds like a cross-between a Phaser & a Vibe, more of a Phase though.
yeah! thats pretty much what it is! I have the jimi one which is pretty funky but not a true vibe!
Is it 100% analog?
+Pedro Storms Why? Do you like the sound? - Then what difference does it make? Analog not always = good. Digital not always = bad. - I think it's analog.
+Pedro Storms It is analog.
Give me a break man... that song in the beginning is a rip off (well at least the major idea) of Guns N' Roses-Civil War... at least be fair and admit that is the same, just in a lower tempo and with the effect on...
Great playing. Horrid pedal
I think its gay
Yeah has nothing on a MetalZone.
Tim Satterwhite Well, on the other hand, maybe he is a homosexual and is rightfully comfortable enough about it to express his delight at finally finding the pedal of his dreams? Should we give him the benefit of the doubt?
Well his name is clit poontang
Well clint, i imagine since your GAY, everything sounds gay. Careful with those gerble's, i bet if they bust through the sock it could make your aids relapses feel like a sunny day in the park. Don't need your rectum fugged up, your partner will bail on you!!
I also thought it's good!
