*I liked the way these guys switched between pedals off camera leaving it to the viewer to guess which pedal they were using for the review... genius!*
Thank you so much for this post. I really enjoy the Uni-Vibe sound and its connection to Jimi. The comparisons were interesting. Seems like the Deja-Vibe is often overlooked by vibe pedal enthusiasts and yet it held up so very well in comparison to the other great sounding vibe pedals. Thanks again.
Yep, its always been a great pedal. Can't go wrong with any of them!
Love your vids Papa! Thanks for everything you do!!!
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
👏👏👏
4:10 Roto Vibe
6:41 Funky Vibe
8:57 Vibe Machine
10:38 Deja Vibe
12:34 Micro Vibe
14:07 Shootout
Thanks for that! I will add chapters now.
What a great review! You guys kick ass.
This summary is more for me, as I’ll be coming back to this video as I do more research and comparisons, and make my next vibe choice.
Dunlop Rotovibe 4:10
Sabbadius Funky-Vibe 6:38
Drybell Vibe Machine 8:55
Fulltone Deja Vibe 10:33
Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe 12:30
Thank you!
Thanks for checking us out!
Alright Papa, you've made me a happy man. Digging the team up with RJ and the pedals. Currently have a Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Univibe mini pedal and Earthquaker Devices The Depths vibe pedal.
Those are awesome! Have had them both myself!
Thanks guys! Love my Fulltone Deja-vibe MKII. Set the speed almost dead slow to get a beautiful, syrupy sound. It has an expression pedal input to control the speed as well. I put my fuzz before my UniVibe, but I put my overdrives after the UniVibe. Just how I like it. All configurations have their puts and takes. :-)
For sure! It's a great pedal!!
Wow! I can’t get over how Cool you guy’s are! Those Tats say it all. I can hear them in your playing.
Lol! Well RJ is the only one with the tats but thanks for checkin out the vid!
I really like RJ's playing. Thanks guys I'm going to buy my first vibe pedal soon.
Awesome! You will love it!
I could listen to RJ riff and jam for hours. Especially on a 'vibe.
The pedals sound awesome, but I'm noticing the amp sounds just as equally awesome. Thanks for the vid!
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
Brett another Great Video With RJ...
A Stache of Pedals How Awesome is That👍🌝🎸
Haha! That is a great title! Might have to start calling my demo videos that!
@@BrettPapa Ha Ha Nice one Brett..Copyright Free as Well Yaaaaaaagh👍🌝🎸
Very cool comparison fellas. I’m looking to buy a uni-vibe and you guys have definitely gave me some clear options.
Awesome! Thanks for checking us out!!
having the control, with the expression pedal, really adds something :) love them all....dam I love vibe. great playing!!
Thanks for checking out the vid!
Yes he really nailed that it takes you new places the others can't go, and it's a good vibe
@@dianathompson7597 yep!!
For me, (I have owned a lot of boutique vibes) the one I prefer is the Sweetsound Mojo Vibe. EPIC video!!! Cheers!
Yep, that is a great one too! That is the problem they are all so good!
Got rid of the Drybells....it was probably the best out of several that I tried but actually in a position to get a good one Are all the Sweet sounds consistent ?
Nicely done vibe comparison. Still loving my Micro Vibe.
I love that pedal too! Bang for the buck it is tough to beat!!!
Thank you guys for this video!😃
Sure thing!
I went with the Fulltone MDV-3 v2. It's the authentic circuit under a treadle. I love the option to jam it into full speed on the last chord and to dynamically slow the speed during play.
That is a great pedal.
You guys could get dangerous together! Very cool 😎. Great ideas and playing. Thanks
Thanks for checking it out David!
VIBES ALIVE!!!!! Love it!
YES!!!! Vibes rule haha!
you had me at rotovib pedal! that thing is pure magic
Haha! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for doing the shootout on Univibe pedals. However - in the future, please try this - keep the guitar on one pickup switch and play the same musical example at least at the first of the demo. There needs to be some control. And you might as well play Hendrix, because that is what we are all trying to get, whether we admit it or not!
Haha
Love Hendrix, but I’m not trying to sound like him. I use a univibe to affect my synth signal
the pulse of the deja vibe disappears in front of dirt pedals...the Funky-Vibe slices and dices no matter where you place it..the most intense vibe on the market.I got mine! I was surprised how good the rotovibe sounded in this video.
Yeah I was too. Great sounding pedal. Sabbadius is AMAZING!!
Great video! Good job
Thanks!
Love both you guys. Some constructive suggestions: have a visual indicator of what pedal is being played, and have some “bookmarks” for each pedal in the timeline. Makes it a lot easier to follow. Thanks!
Great tips! For a while there it was just tough to keep up with all of the videos and editing. Got some help now!
@@BrettPapa Bottom line you’re both rock stars and I learn a lot from y’all. 👍🏼
@@BrettPapa
Brett- you da man! I dig your playing; Hendrix style.
Mmmmmm...... you should have just shot the video in real time and just pointed to pedal you’re using. 😅😅😅
I’m surprised you didn’t. You’re pretty Lowe Tech ! But that’s why we like watching your videos on RUclips.
I dig the blue plaid shirt. I had a couple like that in high school and I bought some new ones so I can look like the ‘stache man too !
Enrique Casal uses a fultone mv 2. Sounds pretty choice to me. Anything with a gas pedal will do to get that Who Knows sound.
I have DejaVibe #100, which I bought new in 1995. I've used it regularly ever since. To my ears, nothing else has ever quite equaled it.
I had two early ones as well including a stereo one! They were great!
I have one from 1998. I think it’s #968.
Ive got a deja vibe and have been looking for a hendrix fuzz to pair with it for about a year and a half now. Thank you on the tip for vibe first, next stop dunlop ffm3!
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
I like the funky vibe the best for sure!
It's my favorite. So good!
@@BrettPapa Trying to find a Helix imitation.
Hi Brett & RJ , The first purple moon from Carl Martin is also a blast , it include an integrated fuzz . Best cheap on reverb to check it out . Go on with this pedal pusher show , great 👍 think about some tone bender show 🎸
Thanks man! Thanks for the tips and ideas! I love Tone Benders!!!
The latest incarnation of the dejavibe mini is even better. Sounds huge. For the price it is unbeatable too.
Yeah I've been meaning to check one out.
You guys do great demos together! Been vibing on the Keeley Monterey for the past couple months myself. Cheers Papa!!
Thanks for checking out the vids!
I've got a modded Danelectro Chicken Salad. Rate Knob added, photo cel wrapped with foil, switch changed so it doesn't pop. I love it.
Sounds great!
I want to get mine modded. Such a great sounding pedal, especially for the $.
@@paulitik7 Two mods are easy, you can do them even if you aren't comfortable.
1) drill a hole in the top of the case where the trim pot is, you can then adjust it with a screwdriver whenever you want.
2) apply foil to the inside of the photocel, gives you a deeper stronger effect.
I am running a 4 cable set up on my board. Is the effect loop the place for a vibe? Especially as I have a fuzz going in the front, and vibe after fuzz was mentioned.
Cheers, great vid
Yes, all the Fulltone Deja Vibes since it went to the Custom Shop, CS-MDV-1 when he changed the paint from black to silver sparkle( July 2016, like mine ) have an expression pedal jack, as do the newest CS-MDV-MK II( September 2018 )
Awesome!
Deja Vibe and Micro Vibe were my favorites. The playing was fantastic.
They are both awesome!!
I have the MicroVibe on my board love it with fuzz or a little boost
yep~
Got the Deja Vibe few years back and it always on regardless of what I’m playing - love it
Other fantastic Vibes: Jam Pedals Retro Vibe, Electric Orange Moon Vibe, MJM 60's Vibe, DLS Versa Vibe, Black Cat Vibe. I have the Drybell - it's nice ( however ) the King of Throb is: The Shiftee Vibe = perhaps, Better then the original? Runs @ 24v. Nice Demo. Enjoyed this. Stay Safe everyone.
Wow and I thought I had vibe acquisition problems lol! Thats awesome. I need to check all those out.
@@BrettPapa No man. This was Very informative. You guys did an Incredible comparison. I just Love that swirling, hypnotic, pulsing, psychedelic sound. I'm a huge Trower/Gilmour fan. I preferred the Sabbadius in your video = Less Phasey and More Throbby. oNe LovE brother.
I had a ton of vibes and feel the Drybell can do all of them with more bite.
Haha That your kid at 6:27? Great video again! I own the deja vibe and love it
Probably one of them lol! Deja Vibe is great. I loved mine I had the stereo version. It was epic!
Left out the best one... Jam Retro Vibe
So good. These are the one RJ and I had between the two of us. I love all the JAM pedals. They are awesome!
I have 'the depths' and love it!
I bet, its a great pedal.
Good job guys awesome content hope to see you two with ford thurston that would be great i think all the best 🇵🇭🤘
Haha! That would be awesome. I'll see if he is down to do it.
I’ve had a Microvibe on my board for probably 15 years. It’s so simple. Just does what you want it too.
It is a fantastic pedal!!
@ 7:15 dude with black cap is like “ Bet you can’t play this” 😂😂😂..then immediately is cut off by farmer guy in mid note bend.. SAVAGE ! 🥶🥶🥶
I've owned a bunch of vibes over the years... Micro Vibe, Jimi Zero, Deja Vibe, Vibe Machine V2... They are all great in their own ways but I always felt like I had to tweak and tweak and they never quite did what I wanted them to do.
This past year I pulled the trigger on a Funky Vibe (Tiny '68 version). It is an expensive pedal but sometimes you just have to go for THE ONE, rather than spending the same amount chasing the tones with other pedals. It's got the mojo, it's perfect for me.
Yep it's my favorite!
Used to have a sixtiesvibe, not bad but miles from the real deal. Thanks for sharing. Microvibe best bang for the buck
Yep its a good one!
Same experience - the 60s just did not do it for me. The Micro Vibe is not only the best deal, it is a serious nuts and bolts professional grade pedal. Any pro would not complain about it at all. I do not think I’ve heard any complaints about it. It really nails that original vintage tone. People do not latch onto it because of it’s price being so low. I would take it over all the others because it sounds like a vibe pedal and not some overpriced super-turbo version. Grear video!
I don't think I've ever heard a better recreation than that Funky Vibe! That said, I will still stick up for the Micro Vibe all day! 🤷🏼♂️😄 Hovering around $100-120 used? Yeah... all day lol
Yep for the money I think the Micro Vibe is unbeatable.
RJ, yes we can tell you’re a Hendrix fan - you sound fantastic. I’ve never heard the Funky Vibe before - sounds really lush. Wondering if you guys have tried the Jam Pedals Retrovibe?
Yep! Great pedal! Love all of their pedals!
I still think the voodoo vibe by roger Meyer is the sweetest. Opinions vary (roadhouse)
I hope I didn't seem insensitive. I really enjoyed the Univibe discussion. Thank you!
I use the Fulltone Deja Vibe MDV-3 and Fulltone mini Deja Vibe and Electro Harmonix Good Vibes all three are great and Fulltone Robin Trower uses
Yep they are all great!
You guys should add the Pedal Pawn Gypsy Vibe to the shootout. That is an incredible pedal!!
There are so many! That is the problem.
Hey Brett! I’m bored in quarantine and looking to change things up. What’s your favorite guitar pick?
I usually use the Tortex Flow picks. The yellow ones although Jeff McErlain turned me on to these and I cant remember the name of them for the life of me but they were just a touch bigger than jazz 3 picks. I think they are black rain or black ice or something like that.
Micro Vibe currently on my board, but I’m digging that Drybell Vibe Machine here 👍👍
It is a really great pedal!
The micro vibe is on my board after owning a few other boot-tik pedals.
Bought another Bob Sweet Vibe Unit- much better than the Microvibe. That being said , I sold it and got a Drybell. It does the vintage plus has more bite into dirt.
Ventura Vibe blows micro vibe out of the water
The Sabbadius is killer. Wish you guys had a Sir Henry by Tinsley Audio to include. Those are dialed in to an actual Jimi-owned unit.
What exactly is a Sir Henry by Tinsley Audio? Pedal or another effect unit?!
@@fender89s What exactly is Google ??
The best one by far I've found is the Earthquaker Devices The Depths pedal. Lush, authentic sound that plays well with overdrive/distortion.
Is a great one! I had it for a while and really liked it.
Me too..
Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe Plus and the Fulltone Deja-vibe MKII are excellent pedals...
For sure!
I have an original 1969 univibe, id say the funky vibe and the micro sound nearest to mine, that Micro has that uneven wobble to its sweep and that milky tone like my small stone phasers.
Both of those are fantastic! Micro for the money can't be beat! Funky if you got the cash.
Great video guys and great playing, I’ve watched it a few times😂 by the way do you prefer to run your FF style pedal intonthe vibe or vibe into fuzz? Let us know! Cheers!
Haha thanks! Glad you liked it. I actually do both at times. It is a different sound.
I would love to have a left hand Stratocaster body with that design! Did you have that customize or painted that way?🎸
Just got the Sabbadius 69. Absolutely delicious.
Sweet! Yes it is!
The BBE Soul Vibe. is a great sounding affordable vibe pedal.
It is!
Love these demos!!
Thanks for checking them out!
Sabbadius made a great job! Love it!! 👍 there’s another company that is doing good stuff as Argenziano the gypsy vibe pedal
Yep those are good too.
Expensive AF though lol
Ive had vibes going back to the early 70's. The Deja-vibe is the new staple. Ive had a Vibemachine as well but accidentally left it on over a weekend and when I got back to it on Monday it was weakened to the point of death. Dont know what that says about them but that's what happened.
Fulltone stuff is great! All of his pedals I have I love. Great stuff.
May have burnt-out the photocells, by leaving it on???
I have the red Drybell Can't lug a huge board around But the Sabadius had the real deal going on
Agreed!
Which ones is for you the best mini fuzz pedal on the market ? JHS, One Control, MXR or new Mythos ? Which model would be great for a first fuzz pedal to buy ? Thanks for your answer and help.Cheers from France 🇫🇷. bélo
Kingtone Fuzz Si
Beautiful sounds and awesome looking guitar too! Is that RJ's or yours Brett?
I can't think of a single pedal that is so closely associated with the sound of a particular artist. For me, I hear this effect and I instantly think of Hendrix or Trower. There's also really tasty vibe used by Audley Freed on the second Cry of Love album too.
It's RJ's. Man I'd love to get Audley on here!!
@@BrettPapa He's amazing! There's a fantastic interview with him on Truetone Lounge in case you haven't seen it yet. It would be awesome to have him on your channel and give up some of his secrets!
I've tried lots of vibes, my last was KR MEGAVIBE, US 700.00 but JHS Series 3 Phaser does the same job for US 100.00 and 4 times smaller !
They are all good!
I have my dejavibe on 100% of the time...that little switch for "vibrato" or "chorus" completely changes the sound. If you have it in "vibrato" its more of a straight sound where it adds a tiny bit of "swirl" to any tune...sounds great. Then if you want to go all out "Machine Gun" style you just flip it to "chorus" and there you go!
Such a great pedal!
Deja Vibe was awesome, so was the Funky Vibe.
Those two are tough to beat.
"IF" there is really such thing as ,VIBE INPUT/OVERLOAD!? Well, i'm just saying! I would never be able to pull the trigger on a purchase, if I was sitting in front of all these vibes @ once!! I would have to spend some time with each of them individually .P.s. Love the paisley finish on dudes guitar! Thanx.
Can't go wrong with any of them.
I thought that I was going to prefer the sound of the Funky Vibe & the Deja Vibe the most. However, I found that I liked the Rotovibe & the Micro Vibe the best.
They are all great pedals! Can't go wrong with any of them!
@@BrettPapa Agreed!
Pappa, i have the fulltone deja vibe. Can you help me with settings. Im a big hendrix and trower fan. Would like to set it and forget it. Dig the bridge of sighs sound. Learned that song from you :)
Yeah man I would set it on the chorus setting set the intensity at about 1 and then listen to the track to get the speed. Not to fast. You can look up rig run down with Trower and it shows his pedalboard and settings.
@@BrettPapa thanks brother
Hey Papa! Hope all is well!
Ive been through most of these pedals, and all have their special nature about them. I actually ended up with one of Bob Sweets (rip) 1st edition ultra vibe. Just an incredible pedal, and was wondering if you have had the opportunity to try?
No I haven't. There are a lot of great vibes out there. I was I had them all!!
I owned two of Bob Sweets Vibe Unit. That being said, I own the Drybell now.
I liked the Micro Vibe way more than the Deja Vibe. With the Deja, the vibe effect seemed almost to disappear (shallow?) with fuzz and I didn't like the little boost it offered. I did notice the Micro Vibe had this "zing" or hiss in the background tho.
Micro Vibe is a fantastic pedal. Always liked their pedals.
Where on your board would you recommend placing a funky vibe, after your wha and before a big muff?
I usually run it first unless the fuzz won't run that way. Although in the past I have put it behind the fuzz and had great results.
"Soupy low sweep." I've always referred to it as the "flat tire sound." Like you're driving on a flat tire.
Lol!
It's not a shootout🔫
until shaky Jimi joins the fight
There are some great univibes out these days, and some are extremely expensive. The Fulltone Deja Vibe still punches above it's weight class IMO. I notice a slight volume drop in mine, but nothing I can't comp with.
Yeah it's always been a great one!
Hi, I don't live anywhere I really even have the option to try these pedals or even anything similar...I have had a foxrox aqua vibe for years and I want to get a new vibe and am down to the sabbadicus or the jam retro vibe. If you could have either of those which would you pick up? I mean, money is a factor but id the sabbadicus is worth the extra money I could go that way...if you could have either what would you have? Or something else?
im also interested in these 2 specific pedals, from demos the retro seems to have a tiny bit more phasey-ness to the sound than the sabbadius but thats about all i can gather from the demos but that could be totally different when you get them in the room together...not sure. to be frank, i think i want the sabbadius to sound better because of how it looks lol which is silly of me but humans are weird.
The Sab is my favorite vibe I have ever used. Really a great pedal! Tell him I sent ya!
sabbadius is made in argentina..the best vibe
He makes amazing pedals!
I have a shin ei and a dry bell vibe machine. Both are incredible vibes. Tried about 10 others and wasn't a fan. Still want to try thr funky vibe and the JAM pedals vibe. Can never have too many pedals lol
All of those are amazing!
After a couple Vibe Units, a Microvibe and an MJM, I now have the Drybell. It is staying.
Mojo Hand FX Villanova Vibe is a great pedal with small real estate on the board
I'll have to check it out.
Nice Guitars. NIce Vibes Nice White Tara!
Thanks!
I have a real 1969 Uni-Vibe, which is great and these get pretty close. I use the Drybell V2 - all those trimmers on the side let me get a very exact reproduction of the original. So, I can take up way less space on my board and get the same tone, which is great - and not have to risk a real Uni-Vibe getting stolen/broken.
Sounds like a good plan!
I too have an original Uni-Vibe that I bought in the 80's for 50 dollars and I'm afraid to even plug it in.
If those guys tweaked the Drybell, they would be singing another tune. I owned a couple PE Vibe Units (Bob Sweet) sounded great. I just sold my second Vibe Unit that sounded great on clean guitar. It had good warble. I also had a couple other vibes, the Microvibe and the MJM. But, that Drybell...
I got the Drybell. I played it out of the box and wondered if I made a bad decision... so I tweaked the trimpots and got it matching my vintage styled Vibe Units- with more bite. It’s pretty righteous.
The trimpots put the Vibe Machine ahead of all those other pedals.
Pedal guys- if you dug into the trimpots on the drybell, you would have been WAY impressed.
@@grungebox Absolutely! My friend Shaun Klinger (a fantastic pedal builder himself) tweaked my Drybell to sound like his own amazing vibe and it really came to life!
@@ishancooper Would you be willing to share your settings? I had the thought to see about sending him mine to tweak, until I found that he's in Australia :P
Jam Pedals Retrovibe is epic
AMAZING!!
Gotta do this for rotary, pops!
For sure!!!!
By tweaking the Drybell trimpots... it sounds better than all the others. Well, it does vintage spot on- and can get more bite if needed.
Yeah I love that feature of the pedal! It is really a fantastic pedal!
@@BrettPapa Yes, tweaking the trimpots made a HUGE difference. I matched the tone from my Prescription Electronics Vibe Unit and beyond. Lol
Hey, your videos are great and very informative!
Hi George, I've read a couple times that you really love the sound and versatility of the Drybell. Would you also recommend it for acoustic guitars, played rather clean? Thanks
What do you guys think of the New Shin-ei Vibe Bro or Vibe 2 pedals? I heard they are the best ones of all.
I haven't messed with those yet.
@@BrettPapa They are the original company the ones that JIMI used. can you test them with all these, and post it up?
Deja Vibe for me.
They are awesome! I loved mine before someone stole it! And it was stereo too!!!!
Does it matter what amp you have if you want to start a pedal collection? So far I have a couple of pedals, Cry Baby and a looper. My next add on will be a fuzz box, still researching the kind I want. I was thinking the BIG MUFF but there is a lot of fuzz pedals out there. My amp is a line 6. Can anyone tell me if this is a decent amp for pedals?
That will work.
. . . and the Vibe Machine has the "vintage" low-fi warm option too (like Funky Vibe, and Deja Vibe)
It is a fantastic pedal as well!
@@BrettPapa Yes, I couldn't agree more Brett, it is on my board.
You Guys Put off Awesome Vibes!!! But to be Fair to all of us Could you use a regular Fender Not the Jimmy Hendrix Soul infused Awesome im Never goina Afford Guitar!!! Maybe a Squier ... You Guys are the Best!!!
Haha!
Does Fulltone Mini Deja Vibe have volume drop? Can it do a slight boost or just unity volume at max?
Not sure on that.
It goes louder than unity for sure. I have the cream Deja Vibe and I always run it a bit louder.
Imho, the MICRO VIBE is very close to the original- if not the closest of the bunch. There is an internal adjuster screw that can make it more intense.
I had a PE Vibe Unit I loved, it was real clean and hi-fi. Sounded great. My old MJM 60s vibe was a bit lackluster claiming it was the “original” circuit.
MICRO VIBE- no volume drop, awesome sound; I have no plans to “upgrade”.
SEE UPDATE
Plus sound quality for price... hard to beat it!
Jarrett Anderson It could go a bit faster- I hear there is DYI diode that will make it faster.
Great value. I loved mine.
@@grungebox Interesting! I used to really be into modding but haven’t done any modding in quite awhile. May be a good excuse to break out Ye Olde Soldering Iron...
Update: I sold the MicroVibe... it was not doing it for me after a while. In purchased a 90’s PE Vibe Unit, but it much more dark than the 2000s Vibe Unit.
So, I wanted a little more. I purchased the Drybell Vibe machine v2. I was able to dial in a Vintage tone very similar to the Vibe Unit. The tweakable trim pots are awesome. You can get all the vibe tones out of it. I do think there the Vibe Unit may have sounded better on clean guitar tones, but I am sure I can dial it in further. The Drybell sounds great into a dirt pedal.
I really think that the Drybell is more versatile than the other pedals and can get “the” sound. The trimpots do a lot,
After all the vibe pedals I’ve owned, I think the Drybell is going to stay. It sounds great on single note lines especially.
Can you guys share what your OX setting for the Smallbox looks like? I have the same combination and looking for inspiration. ;)
I have the 57, 160, and stereo mic room, 25 punch cab with some wear on the speaker, with a touch of verb.
@@BrettPapa Thanks! I'll give that a try! :)
Is just me or the micro vibe sounds more phaser like on the swirl and the sabbadius (true univibe) is way more subtle on the swirl?
Both are great! I'd say the Sabbadius is closer to the real deal.
Sabbadius Funky Vibe!
Great pedal!!!
look up the classic amplification CV2 vibe its a good lower priced vibe with top notch sound.
Thanks will check it out
That gold strat is unreal
For sure! Sounds great!
Fan of Fulltone. Choices?
