I feel like I have watched this video at least 2-3 times per year, for the last 2 years.. every time, I get something new out of it. Same goes for most of TPS showings. I swear they could charge for these videos, but we are SO GRATEFUL to be able to watch on RUclips. We love you guys! Keep on keeping on!
Hi guys, just wanted to say thanks for a great night out last night. Ended up getting dragged along to the gig by my boyfriend - when he said we were watching That Pedal Show I assumed it was something to do with bikes! Despite arriving to find the room completely packed, we accidentally ended up right in the front row (just in front of Mick) and both had a great time time. I will happily be dragged along to more of your gigs in the future! 😊
I just wanted to say, in reference to something in the last Comments and Questions video: This is my favorite guitar channel on RUclips BECAUSE you’re not the typical reviewer channel. I’ve played guitar for 16 years, and I’ve learned more about gear in the last couple years thanks to you two than I did in the previous 14 on my own. Even things that I thought I’d known, TPS has given me a clearer understanding of them, and I hope you continue on in the way you have been, because it’s why I’m always excited to see a notification for a new TPS video!
Not trying to be elitist by any means, but as a jazz player and sturdier of music, Rabea’s playing it fantastic. His knowledge of harmony sneaks through into his linear playing. Rabea is an INCREDIBLE player.
As someone who has owned nearly all or played a lot of all of those vibes this was a great episode showing the differences in the best way you can. Before and after Fuzz/drive is where the main differences are and you guys killed it.
Mick, that’s a Fulldrive 1. Confusing, yes, because there’s already been several different Fulldrive 2s and a Fulldrive 3. The other 2 modes besides comp-cut are Vintage (classic mid-hump) and Flat Mids. All Asymmetrical clipping. This video proves that we need a Fulldrive episode. Would love it if you guys could round up a FD2 Mosfet, an older push-pull FD2, the new FD2 V2, Fulldrive 3, and of course the FD1 you already have. Amazing pedals!
So, Gilmore had a Leslie and a Vibratone rotary, the Leslie caught fire on Tour in 1969 I think and he swapped it out for the Vibratone and never looked back, still has one of his first units that he was playing live up to about 5 or 7 years ago.
it's worth noting that Gilmour played "Shine on.." live throughout 74-75 with a Phase 90. if you play it through an original Bud Box, or '75 version..... it's THERE.
Your timing is magical. In the last 2 weeks I've re-watched your previous episodes on Vibe numerous times, trying to learn all I can after my recent Unicorn find. This - and an Ariel Posen record on the same day. My weekend is set!
Been thinking about this very thing: fuzz-vibe- or, vibe-fuzz. And I too concluded that the amp breaking up along with the vibe into fuzz or distortion is definitely the recipe for that gooey chewy goodness Hendrix/Trower magic. I appreciate the confirmation from two very capable guitarists.
I never liked fuzz, UNTIL I used it before my Keeley Monterey. The reason is that the "vibe" switch on the Monterey is wayyyyy to phase sounding to pass for a respectable univibe pedal but the fuzz on the pedal going first and then into the "univibe" part of the pedal. It makes sense since the Monterey does not have the photocell technology and therefore not really a good stand-in for a univibe. BUT..... A real univibe has the pgotocell technology for the modulation, preamp for tone the phase and the chorus. In one unit, the ingredient make up what we know as a Univibe. On a true Univibe? Slight fuzz AFTER the univibe pedal. Right now, I'm experimenting with the chain being: Guitar --> Phaser --> Monterey --> Origin Effects Revival Drive (the preamp) --> Source Audio Gemini chorus. It kind of works but needs a bit of fuzz for character after the chorus. I do like the dueling modulation provided by the phaser and the chorus near the end of the signal. Homemade for now but budget allows for 1 pedal so it will either be a good Univibe OR Browne Amplification Protein.
Long winded response before but now direct to your question........ Fuzz before univibe if the tone is too "phasery". With a real good univibe? Univibe before fuzz and even then not much fuzz at all.
@@davidsisto7694I had a similar setup to you (I ran a Monterey and a Gemini) and yeah, it's fun. Had a stock Phase 95 set to script 45, stacked with the Gemini was interesting. I sold the Monterey and scored a Jam Pedals Ripply Fall - what a revelation! If you like the sound of a phaser and a chorus stacked, that pedal is *it* - with the bonus of having a Phaser (the "Ripple" side) that can do a totally respectable Univibe impersonation. Not a cheap pedal, but it's going with me to my grave. The Gemini went on a small (mostly Source Audio) board for a stereo ampless rig with my preamps and IR loader
You guys are the best, I was looking for a supro trem vs univibe comparison, I think you're the only one who've done it on youtube, Great video as always. Cheers !
Just bought the Deja Vibe. If you have a 2 amp setup you can get an awesome stereo vibe effect by setting the Deja Vibe to Vibrato and running it into one of your 2 amps and a dry signal into the other amp. Huge stereo Vibe!!!!! Basically you are doing what the pedal does in Chorus mode, combining the dry and vibrato signals but split over 2 amps.
There are so many videos with jamming on gear and guitars etc etc etc... but Mic's jam at the start of this video was the best I have ever heard. Something about the sound he was using along with the feel he had... Dan said it best - "I felt that up my spine, man!"
I’m less than 2 minutes in and already I have Questions. I have the Fulton Mini-Deja Vibe 3 - and bought for EXACTLY that sound you have at the opening. It sounds nothing like that. No matter what settings I have I just can’t get that amazing “lub-dub” sound out of it. I’ve been thinking about selling it - so this show is perfectly timed! I’ll either keep it after this or sell it..and spend the next 2 months buying and selling vibes until one works. By the way - I think one TPS Episode should cover “How to keep a good marriage while still acquiring ridiculous amounts of gear.”. (I don’t have that problem...asking for a friend...). Back to the episode!!!
Tyler I just purchased the Fulltone vibe and I agree that the effect isnt as pronounced as other vibes Ive played with. Did u end up making it work for u or did u sell it?
@@Gern5838 Dang Tom - I missed this message! sorry. I do still have it. However - I'm using the Kingtone 1968 - I just couldn't get the Fulltone to work for me - and I'm too lazy to sell it.
Thanks for the info on the Fulltone Full Drive. I'm thinking of putting one on a new board that will probably also include a Sun Face (Love that pedal!), a Spark, and a Bad Bob (I love boosts/overdrives). Here's one for your Q&A. How does the Full Drive compare with the Fulltone OCD? Also, as for order of the pedals on my new board I'm thinking: Sun Face (I love that pedal!), Spark, Full Drive and Bad Bob. What do you think? I don't do that much stacking. I get best results stacking with the Sun Face. When I stack with the Bad Bob it tends to get a little unwieldy.
@@jolkraeremeark6949 Absolutely. Mick talked about putting a different one on the board on the last Q & A (and discarding this one). Hopefully, they can keep this one up for further reference.
@@neiledgson6737 Yes, and they could do the show every week from a professional TV Studio... IF they had unlimited resources. Poor (literally) Dan & Mick are doing the best they can with the resources they have. This was a cheap Amazon solution. I personally didn't mind it high on the wall between them... not sure why people freaked about it.
I once, by accident, had my vibe going into just one of my two amps, thus making it a wet-dry set-up with no vibe effect in one of the two amps. That gave me a very convincing Leslie speaker sound, which made me wonder to what extent the Univibe was originally intended to be used in a wet-dry set-up, given that it was designed to mimic a Leslie speaker.
I run a Mojo Vibe and a MD-500 on my board. MD-500 has replaced every modulation I had apart from the Mojo Vibe. I find that vibe is one of those effects that has so much personality that its hard to recreate digitally. My Mojo Vibe lives first in the chain before any dirt (after wah if I use a wah), which is where I like it the best. It behaves very well with fuzz as long as it is run in vintage mode. In modern mode, which adds a FET buffer, it must be placed after fuzz from my experience, but surely this will depend on what fuzz is used. The vintage/modern mode is set via internal dip switches. Vibe is an underated effect. Get one!
Great show guys. To my ears, the Retro Vibe blows the rest away. I just love the fuzz with it. Awesome playing today, too. As always, thanks for the knowledge and keep the tangents coming.
Guys your gig last night was amazing. The energy was immense and you looked like you were having so much fun. What an amazing drummer! Thanks for the photo by the way and sorry to accost you during your break! Looking forward to more.
Massively good show this week! there is a TON of information in here. How vibe's work, how they interact with fuzz, before and after drives. How they interact with pickups. This is now on the top of my playlist! It will take a while to dig in and get the real value, but that will be a labor of love. YOur care, concern, thoughtfulness and technical detail is just so helpful. don't ever stop. ever. (no seriously, become immortal and do this for a thousand, thousand years.)
Hi Mick! Switch your Dejavibe from the modern mode, where it has the largest sweep between highs and lows and is the setting you said you generally like it in because of that, to the vintage setting if you’re putting it before your fuzz. If you haven’t tried it already. It helps tame the treble problem with the fuzz you’re talking about.
I'm glad this didn't air last week as I was looking into a new vibe and I suspect this would have really put a spanner in the works! Looking forward to sitting down and listening to some glorious noise!
The Krautster is back!! Dan, where has it been? It was like an old friend from Pedal Shows past! I'm usually a traditionalist sticking to Fenders, Gibsons, and the like...but damn that is a beautiful instrument. And you play it so much differently than your other guitars!
I love the notes at the beginning of the show. It’s amazing how much I’ve learned about pedals through this show, thank you for all the knowledge and entertainment. You guys should do some blindfold challenges vs Chappers and the Captain. TPS vs Andertons: Blindfold Face-off!! 😆🤟
Pedal empire is a dangerous place!! I live on the Gold Coast bit gig in brizzy 4 nights a week Loved the vibe machine and they all sounded awesome with humbuckers and P90’s. As Dan said it is such an evocative sound Takes you straight to those old late 60’s early 70’s records
The Vibratone is the Fender branded Leslie model 16 with a single 10 inch speaker with a rotating drum in front, sending the sound vertically round the cabinet, David Gilmour has used both the Vibratone and the Leslie 122, which has the familiar rotating horn on top for high frequencies, and a down firing 15 inch woofer, btw, the horn and drum in the 122 rotate in opposite directions.
Thanks guys! Recently got an older version of the Vibe Machine.. after a trying some other options like MXR Phase 95 and Lovepedal Pickle Vibe I've decided (in a moment's decision after someone posted it for sale on facebook offcourse) that i need the real thing.. and boy is there a HUGE difference between the "wannabe" vibes and a real one.. WOW.. so warm and lovely. Anyway that is some of my vibe journey.. Thanks for a great vid as usual!
Loved the show this week guys! I've been watching TPS pretty religiously for about 3 years now, and can say the stuff you go over on a weekly basis is both inspiring and invaluable to me as a guitar player. Can't thank you enough for all that you do! I realize this question would have been better suited for a comment on the episode you did back in July on noise gates and suppressors, but my hope is that by posting it to this video you might have a chance to go over it on your next VCQ. I, like many guitar players am trying to reduce the noise coming from my rig. After re-watching your episodes on noise suppressors and VCPI, I having been attempting to troubleshoot the problem with the steps you go over in these episodes. After eliminating certain variables I am confident the majority of the noise I am still hearing is coming from running a wet-dry rig, with the ground loop coming from running two amplifiers and my isolated power supplies through the same power strip. Although this might be an extremely obvious problem to solve to, you briefly mentioned the importance of making sure to have separate grounds when running a rig in this manner but you never explained this concept much further than that. Could you please include in a video how you are getting the power from the wall to your amplifiers to avoid these types of noise situations? Are you using any power conditioners? Isolated power transformers? Anything of that nature that has an effect on how the power is coming out of the outlet into your amps? Thank you so much!
Q: Have you ever had an effect you avoided for a long time because of preconceived notions, only to find out it was the very thing missing in your life? Up until a few months ago, I had always written off "vibe" as vibrato (which is too out-of-tune and seasick for me). I'd been searching for the right modulation for awhile, trying rotating speaker (takes over the sound too much) and harmonic tremolo (not phasey enough). Then I heard Hendrix's "Mannish Boy" come on the radio. It was a eureka moment...VIBE!!! Just right for me in every way.
I have Dejavibe #0021 bought in 1994 which I've been happy with since the day it arrived, and also two of the modern versions from the last ten years. Have always preferred the Dejavibe before a fuzz face or overdrive. And wah/Dejavibe/fuzz face in that order if a wah's involved. Of course you can hook up anything any way you want. If you're interested in your first Univibe type pedal try a Dejavibe before anything else. At the price of a new one today (less than half of my original) they're a great value. Also a problem I have with reviews of the Dejavibe in particular and vibes in general is that they rarely set the controls near the way I like it which is (with a Dejavibe) Volume at max, intensity at 2/3 to 3/4, and speed according to the music. Often too fast or too slow. If I had the appropriate gear I'd do my own demo. But again try a Fulltone Dejavibe first.
Great video idea: go over Boston’s (Tom scholz’s) rig setup with the rockman! A video on trying to recreate the tone with it and with just pedals would be super interesting!
I definitely like the vibe first. I use mine before an Analogue Man red dot germanium Sunface and haven’t experienced any problems and I play into a Bluesbreaker that I keep cranked and use an attenuator. I think a Vibe works well first for the same reason a wah generally works best before overdrives.
I’ve gotten some awesome dimensional vibe sounds from my rig with the vibrato setting on my vibe, running wet/dry (with the vibe only on the wet signal). It’s like having a Jazz Chorus Univibe amp!
With Blue having been re-fretted and with the new bridge, with effects you clearly love, Mick's playing is on another level. It's a fantastic example of what Dan often talks about. How, when everything comes together it brings more out of a player. The playing on this show is always great, but on this occasion it's fan-bloody-tastic!
I almost bought a brownface 63 vibrosonic with a 15inch jbl. When I played it the harmonic tremolo was the most lush modulation type effect I have ever heard. Awesome show guys!!!
I'm a fair guitarist and utility musician. I am paid to play guitar and pedal steel but .... I'm primarily a keyboardist and Hammond organist by trade. I have 4 Leslies but usually use a Vent 2 coming out the Leslie socket on my Organ. The FOH deskman prefers the Vent. I always liked a Vibe, Phaser or Chorus on guitar better than a Leslie. A guitar doesn't have the harmonic content to really drive a Leslie. Its always sounds thin. I assume its because the guitar doesn't have the bottom end to drive the bottom rotor which does 80+% of the work. The cross over is typically 800hz on a twin rotor Leslie. Is 800hz+ is where the guitar really punches? IMO if someone wants a real Leslie the best ones for guitar are the full range single rotors like the 125 or an 825. The dirt and grind from a Leslie is as much a function of the organist's chord voicings and note selection as much as the swell pedal. The guitar just can't do it. Pedals I think sound better than the real thing in this case.
Hello chaps. Your shows, tangents and all, are a vital part of my week. 😁 My need list is a big lottery win size now, let alone my want list. Great gig last night. So great to hear immense guitar tones straight off the stage with no intervening PA. Lovely to meet you all. Looks like you might have had some fun. Keep it up. Cheers. Neil from Devon.😁
47:10 The Mojo Vibe does have an internal switchable FET buffer for more clarity and high end response. According to the manual, it's inside, because using it causes a pop. You might want to check your Mojo Vibe if it's currently set up on Vintage Mode.
Thank me later: guys, call Keeley -- The world needs an official Pedal Show Pink Floyd 4-note rotary vibe... Door Bell. The perfect Xmas gift for 2019.
@@Kevin-the-Just Thanks Kevin! But - I'm opposed to Strymon for reasons that shall remain unstated as I don't want to offend anyone on a TPS thread. I have a Digitech Ventura Vibe/VIbrato/Rotary and the Rotary on my Keeley Dark Side. They will do until I find my Rotary pedal.
sounds good in theory, but there seriously isn't enough difference between the RAT variants to make an interesting show that lasts an hour. sure, there are different features between RAT'S, but tone wise... you can't explore the difference between a White Face, RAT2 and Snouse and push it past 10 minutes. it's the same circuit for the same needs.
Ah man, I would happily watch a vibe show every week! It's like your ears taking a warm, soapy bubble bath with a happy end. Good to see the MD500 back on the show. Had mine a year, making some lovely sounds with it but still feel I am only scratching the surface of what it can do.
I had a few thoughts that I thought I’d post here, but Mark Hammer proved me wrong in his in-depth answer. 😃 So I’ll just give you an idea for a show (even though I guess you have enough of them already): In your VCQ you weren’t really enthusiastic about a show on cheap amps. BUT how about a show on old/vintage amps that are today sold cheaply but are really good. Then you could show us how to approach them in order to make them sound good. I mean, while the Sovtek is not really vintage, it is safe to say it is not a enthusiastically loved amp - even though it sounds really good on your show.
hey - remember too that Jimi ran those coiled cables and his wah' buffer knocked off a LOT of top end going to the fuzz face. MyGermanium fuzz faces hate being after a vibe. But youre running the deja vive - it doent have the univibe buffer.... Oh man, youre misng out - its amaaazing!
Your comment last week about people really just wanting a review to justify their pedal purchasing choices was so on the mark. Second show now that fully justifies my love of the Neo Ventilator. Awesome show as always. Love me some vibe and rotary and love me some That Pedal Show.
Dan don't take this the wrong way, I would really like to understand what you said (It is my ignorance not your explanation.), but what I translated from your explanation was "the signal comes in, 'Magic happens,' it's fascinating."
Murry In Arizona oh I agree I have learned a ton from that Pedal show but for some reason this stuff just went through my brain without registering. That’s why I said it was my ignorance. I am just several levels below what he presented. My hope is to get there one day, but for now, to be honest, Magic happens is enough of an explanation for me. :-)
perfect timing! i've been obsessed with the vibes for years, but the last two days have been homework days. even got my flanger hoax to sound rather vibe-y, playing along to you guys! thanks for this vid!
Looking forward to the new Callaham bridge video! I have a video series request: how to get specific artist/ album sounds (jimi hendrix, stevie ray vaughn, etc) I think it can be a good way to learn about guitar tones, its what I think about mostly with guitar tones, how do I get that great sounding tone on that recording
Me too. Searching for a New Strat Bridge that Floats and Stays in Tune. Mine is set; really good - (but) Always searching for Something-Better, with No Wobble in the trem-arm.
FANBOY TIME! I'm sure there was a second vibe show which Dan was in! "five awesome vibes" but there is never enough TPS so keep it coming. Never stop the tangents n banter. I believe most of us really appreciate the show because it is like when we get together with guitar mates n sit n drink n play guitar and talk crap for hours. It's a great show never change it.
I don't use pedals and am definitely not a fan of high gain, I like a nice clean tone and use the volume knob on the guitar when I need a little crunch, I'm mostly a rhythm player . I watch because of the entertainment value to start with, I've been subscribed for over a year now and I have learned a lot in addition to the entertainment and some ridiculous tones and playing. Over a year ago I got a Trio+ your recommendation sealed it, that's how I found you. I recognized Mick from Guitar Paradiso and started to look around. What the hell is Wet/Dry, Wet/Dry/Wet etc. next thing you know almost a year ago I bought a Peavey Classic 20MH online and they offered me a discount if I took a floor model from a store that was closing so I said throw in a Radial Big Shot ABY and it's a deal. I'll never go back to playing through just one amp again and that's without any effects pedals. I feel like I've got so much from you two that when the only D&M Drive in my city's only guitar shop that I'd been on the fence about for months was sold to a guy who was just passing through on a several hundred mile journey a couple months ago I had them order another in for me and I picked it up yesterday.
That being said what's the chances you could do an episode on how to get started with pedals ie: what type and length and how many guitar cables, pedal cables, battery vs powered, how many pedals before a board is a benefit, how many before a GigRig/QuarterMaster is an option, what type of pedals benefit from it most, if not using what order etc. If not an episode maybe a regular segment added to pick and mix or VLOG. I was lucky I had a power supply from the Trio+, I spent all last night trying to find info to makes sure it was compatible with no luck and so far have only used the pedal for a couple minutes to see if it works. What's the chance you will be getting a Pink Flow from Jam Pedals to try out? On the down side I had pretty much all the guitars I needed more or less and had the amps mostly covered too, except for a Hi-Watt kit and a Blues Breaker kit as well as cabs just need a Celestion Blue. Now I've fallen down the rabbit hole of effects pedals and can see spending 4 figures in multiple without any difficulty. Thanks, thanks a lot Dan & Mick I was just getting used to actually having some extra money in my bank account, oh well. The Schwang will be Awesome.
Back to the future: a response to 7th Jan's VCQ's Let us all breath a hearty sigh of relief that Mr T found the gainy amps video both reasonably entertaining and informative! Would that he were kind enough to share with the ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY THREE THOUSAND of us who adore this channel, what content it is he has found on RUclips which renders the mind-blowing sounds, knowledge, musicality, inspiration and entertainment here 'reasonable'! Dan's caveat that 'it's about the experience' cuts to the quick. There are those of us who for whatever reason are unable to make a racket as often or to the levels we would like. It lieu of that, TPS provides a wonderful fix, connecting us to the feeling and emotional gratification the guitar provides. It's not a huge stretch to suggest that PSVR3DVideos, with their stance that the subject doesn't need an hour of explanation, wasn't one of us who was physically and emotionally moved by Joey Landreth's playing (and singing) in the pedalboard episode. Or perhaps that they may have missed the point when Josh Smith distilled the equivalent of a semesters-worth of degree level tuition (typing from experience) into a few minutes when discussing improvising over changes. So by christ Mick, no. Remain courageous in your convictions that TPS will not be just another review show. Notwithstanding the increased sales your delightful preferred retailers must surely enjoy, the content moves some of us to revisit gear we already have and ASK BETTER QUESTIONS, be more inquisitive and find inspiration (as well as the salient point you raised - purchase validation!) in the equipment we already have. As JHS Josh pointed out (another powerhouse of an episode) it's about playing guitar. Even if everyone spent years gathering the awesome wet-dry-wet rig, when they plug in it remains a question of music. Yes, inspiration pours from the symbiotic relationship between player and rig, and it will be created all the more if those viewers mentioned above could but see the point: play your guitar, rather than collect new toys in the mistaken belief that having all the gear will give you any idea. More power to you Catherine, Simon, Mick and Dan. Long may your journey continue.
Hey boys! Another great episode. I just wanted to let you know how much my band appreciates the both of you, the work you both put in to make these videos happen, and the knowledge that you arm this community with. Its truly an invaluable resource for us and just wanted to make sure we thanked you for it. A few weeks back you mentioned doing an episode on comparing different fender twin amps. Mainly the red knob "the twin" amp and ofcourse the twin reverb. We would love to see this at some point, if you can make it happen. Best, Oak & Ash
Tim Halligan I did just that! Definitely sounds awesome (especially in stereo!) but am not using it as much as I thought (though I would still buy it again haha). I also kind of wish it had stereo in and out so I could fully incorporate it into my wet/dry rig.
The full fat Ventillator II does have stereo in out which sold it for me. Sound is the same but with more control. It’s a marvellous thing but both that and the mini have less value if you don’t run a stereo rig.
I bought a Callaham bridge for my MIM Strat, which costs half as much as a paid for the guitar (bought used), and I have ZERO regrets. It sounds and feels like a completely different instrument. Fuller and more even sounding in frequency response with better sustain. And I can actually use it without the guitar going massively out of tune. If you own a MIM Strat and crank the springs down completely, get rid of that pot metal block and get the Callaham replacement block instead of the whole bridge. Anyone who tells you that you can't tell the difference unless the bridge is fully floating is wrong. The Callaham with a tiny bit of float sounds way better than a fully cranked down MIM standard bridge.
Hope the gig went well last night! Wish I was in The good ol UK to watch you guys. I remember the old Univibe video. That video put the Buddha wah on my WANT list of pedals. Keep it up guys.
When you first turned on the Vibe Machine it sounded terrible! I have one of those, and it frankly, scared the shit out of me! I was thinking "No way mine sounds shitty like that!! (does it?)" lol Thank god you tweaked it, and got it MUCH better!! Those sneaky trim pots can be great, but can also be a disaster if they're out of whack!
Larry Lachmann I’ve compared all these vibes and more to my vintage Shin-Ei Uni-Vibe, and the only one that really compares is the Vibe Machine. It really chews up the entire sound. just think of the Machine Gun pick scrapes. Every other vibe seems to sit on top of the sound, for lack of a better way of describing the difference. Bottom line, you saved yourself thousands of dollars, because it’s virtually indistinguishable from an original, vintage Vibe. But I still can’t part with my original.
@@markwilliams142 I love mine, which is why I was so aghast when they first turned theirs on in the clip. I have the red version, which came earlier, and has less tweakability. I wonder if the one on the show was brand new, or if someone had messed with it earlier. I'm not 100% sure why you would need to tweak those parameters, I guess different guitars might sound better with different adjustments. You couldn't do that on the original Shin-Ei (I think). I don't have an original like you do, but of all the vibes I listened to, the Vibe Machine seemed the most like the real deal, so I'm not surprised by what you tell me! I also liked the sound of the mini Deja Vibe on the show.
Has anyone used the Yamaha rotary speakers that Gilmoiur used? the smaller versions show up for sale now and then and one day i think ill grab one . I think he used the Yamaha ra 200 s.
Excellent, boys! Mission accomplished! You've taken someone who never had any interest whatsoever in Vibe and made me curious to try one in my rig now! Up to now, I've always leaned toward Leslie over Vibe. The Vent sounded great. I've got a RotoChoir, which I like for the opposite reason that Mick likes the Vent... it has LOTS of knobs! With the RotoChoir (which I think is a HIGHLY under-rated pedal) I can EQ, add some drive, cab sim, switch between single drum and bi-amp with the horns, position the mic and adjust the top speed. I actually have a setting on slow speed that gives me more of the character of my '79 Deluxe Electric Mistress than any other flanger I've tried!
I can’t wait until you guys do a show on the new Strymon Volante. Binson AND Space Echo AND Studio tape all in one unit with independent head control. 🤤🥴
Joshua Boitnott me too.. at least 2 deco sales on the back of that pedal show on this thread alone. Much timeline love from dan over the years too! Send them one strymon!
Very good job guys. After logging in what seems like close to a million cyber-miles on YT checking out so many various gear videos, I am somewhat amazed that this is the first time I've ran across your show ( or is it?-hmmm?...). Anyway, really enjoyed it- fine playing, great amps, guitars and of course pedals. Most of all, the annoyance factor, that affects each of us differently on different levels, and according to which station we're listening to- was noticeably absent here, I found. Entertaining and eductional, quite a good combo.
Thanks for sharing the Vibe > Fuzz/Drive comparison! I’ve been struggling with my tone the other way round for a while now. Gave it a play right after watching your show and I’m a happy convert now. Just for laughs, I ran my Vibe into the front of my Colorsound and..........WOAH!......can you say amazing! ........by far the best OD/Dirt/Fuzz tone ever.....Epic! Will be tracking that tomorrow for sure! Keep up the good work in 2019 guys!
I'm glad you got the MD-500 on, as I'm considering it as a core part of a pedal designed to recreate my sound from the early-mid 1990s, only better (which was all Boss pedals). Oddly enough, the most used modulation effect in my rig from back then was chorus, but for chorus, I'm planning on a Digitech Nautila, whose chorus is unreal. But for tremolo and vibrato, the MD-500 is my plan. It sounded a bit harsh with the fuzz, here, though it sounded perfect clean, but as I said earlier, vibe isn't really my thing. If it *were*, that Jam Pedals Retro Vibe was really nice with the fuzz.
I mainly come here for the Associated Tangents, the pedals and playing are nice too but the tangents is where it's at.
Tangents?!? These gents aren’t tan..they white as hell!!!
Associated Tangents? werent they an 80s synth pop duo? :-)
I work for Associated Tangents but we're always straying from our company's mission statement...
@@billsherrington5996 Yea but they split and went their own way. Then they tried to reform as "Dissociated Tangents" but nobody came to rehearsals.
But can tan djent?
Rock On!🎸
Wow, you lucky girl! Here, in Italy, were I live, we're not so fortunate...😅
I love how Dan digs Micks playing so much!
I just wanted to say, in reference to something in the last Comments and Questions video:
This is my favorite guitar channel on RUclips BECAUSE you’re not the typical reviewer channel.
To my ears the Vibe Machine is the clear winner here.
I think Rabea is averaging 2 honks per week these days...
Matt Flickinger I thought he was abstaining from self-gratification?
The JAM Retro Vide stacks very well with my KOT and Echo System and Reverb. That pedal is magic.
I've been unable to make it stack poorly. It's magic, for sure.
The Retrovibe and Chase Tone are made for each other.
So, Gilmore had a Leslie and a Vibratone rotary, the Leslie caught fire on Tour in 1969 I think and he swapped it out for the Vibratone and never looked back, still has one of his first units that he was playing live up to about 5 or 7 years ago.
it's worth noting that Gilmour played "Shine on.." live throughout 74-75 with a Phase 90. if you play it through an original Bud Box, or '75 version..... it's THERE.
Script 90
Ah it’s the best time of the week again
Vibe is the only modulation I actually enjoy. I have a TC Viscous and I love it.
That is the same conclusion I came to exactly
Cheers !
The Fulltone sounds spot on. I have the Vibemachine-2 and had the Mojovibe but that Fulltone is exactly what I want to hear when I think about Vibe
The best part of this video is at 39:53 "Ahh Yeah..." I close my eyes and you are Austin Powers. Great guitar tone right there.
Db meter's new spot looks great!
I think that is a good compromise
Agree
@@jolkraeremeark6949 Absolutely. Mick talked about putting a different one on the board on the last Q & A (and discarding this one). Hopefully, they can keep this one up for further reference.
Can you get a meter with a sensor that is remote to the display. Can then see the readings but have it read the sound from the right place.
Thank you SO much for coming Marc. We had a blast!
Cheese and Grain, Frome. It was fantastic
As a middle aged dad rock loving guitar geek, that pedal show has become the main reason I look forward to Friday night's again.
I'm glad this didn't air last week as I was looking into a new vibe and I suspect this would have really put a spanner in the works!
Looking forward to sitting down and listening to some glorious noise!
Good stuff Guys, many thanks :)
Modulations like Phase, Flange, Univibe, Wah -- Before drives: smooth and warm, After drives: spikey, peaky, nasty. With a clean amp anyway.
Pedal empire is a dangerous place!! I live on the Gold Coast bit gig in brizzy 4 nights a week
Loved the vibe machine and they all sounded awesome with humbuckers and P90’s.
I have a Leslie #16 for sale ……… if you are anywhere near Portland, OR
Thanks guys!
Got a Keeley X pedal coming...Leslie,UniVibe,and some type of vibrato in a standard size enclosure...thanks for getting me even more stoked!
Oh Queso! This is the FD going into the Deja! LMAO 27:50 I hear it every time and laugh. Dan always finds a way to brighten our days!
Blue has been brought to a whole new level! It sounds freakin' great! @that pedal show
I’ve gotten some awesome dimensional vibe sounds from my rig with the vibrato setting on my vibe, running wet/dry (with the vibe only on the wet signal).
When you almost said “and I’m the Captain” at 1:53, I died laughing
I almost bought a brownface 63 vibrosonic with a 15inch jbl. When I played it the harmonic tremolo was the most lush modulation type effect I have ever heard. Awesome show guys!!!
I would have loved to See the voodoo lab micro vibe
Not a real vibe
edwin pringle how is the Micro vibe not a real vibe?
Worth the admission price alone for Dan lashing through all of them at once :) Great show
I'm a fair guitarist and utility musician.
I have the electro harmonix good vibes univibe absolutely love it
Going through the comments I realized what a great community this is! Thank you guys for that pedal show!
Absolutely! Just a wonderful bunch of people and we're lucky to have you on board!
Great place to put the dB meter!
Ha! Say hello to Maura for me!
@@Danh103663 Hiya,, Dan!!!
Roto-Sonic? I'm still set on either a Mini Vent 2 or, if I can find one, a Tech 21 RotoChoir.
Matt Gilbert
Have you considered the Strymon Lex? IMO it's not as harsh as the Vent and easier to power being a standard 9v centre negative supply.
Oh glory.... return of the Nik Huber!!! My favorite guitar on the show. Great episode as always.
A show on the different rats and alternatives like the T-Rex Mudhoney would be awesome
+1
I want a T-Rex Alberta 2, Moller, and Mudhoney. I freakin' love those Danish suckas.
sounds good in theory, but there seriously isn't enough difference between the RAT variants to make an interesting show that lasts an hour. sure, there are different features between RAT'S, but tone wise... you can't explore the difference between a White Face, RAT2 and Snouse and push it past 10 minutes. it's the same circuit for the same needs.
So I’ll just give you an idea for a show (even though I guess you have enough of them already): In your VCQ you weren’t really enthusiastic about a show on cheap amps.
Recently bought the RetoVibe, just to point out it has two internal trimmer pots inside for the output and intensity,
another killer show guys!
That Mini Vent II just kills. I can't "vibe" with any of the others 🤣
Every episode you guys put out is great, but the educational pedal questions episodes are where you guys excel. Loved this.
hey - remember too that Jimi ran those coiled cables and his wah' buffer knocked off a LOT of top end going to the fuzz face.
I have a video series request: how to get specific artist/ album sounds (jimi hendrix, stevie ray vaughn, etc) I think it can be a good way to learn about guitar tones, its what I think about mostly with guitar tones, how do I get that great sounding tone on that recording
simming check out the "sound like" videos from Andertons. Pretty informative and entertaining.
Thanks, thanks a lot Dan & Mick
I was just getting used to actually having some extra money in my bank account, oh well.
The Schwang will be Awesome.
thanks so much, yes, getting started with pedals, 100% going to do this
I love Dan's lack of poker face. It always clues me in on which pedals I really need to give a go
When Dan makes the >:D face my wallet hurts
Great vid thanks. Anyway you can do a close up of the pedals maybe at the beggining ?. Its impossible to see the small toggle switches on the pedals
Back to the future: a response to 7th Jan's VCQ's
Let us all breath a hearty sigh of relief that Mr T found the gainy amps video both reasonably entertaining and informative!
Love this Larry, thanks so much :)
The vent is the pinnacle of Leslie emulation. So happy with the ventilator 2
Best,
Oak & Ash
Note to self: buy Neo Mini Vent.
Tim Halligan I did just that! Definitely sounds awesome (especially in stereo!) but am not using it as much as I thought (though I would still buy it again haha). I also kind of wish it had stereo in and out so I could fully incorporate it into my wet/dry rig.
And DC-2W. Sell all other mods except Flanger and Vibe.
The full fat Ventillator II does have stereo in out which sold it for me. Sound is the same but with more control. It’s a marvellous thing but both that and the mini have less value if you don’t run a stereo rig.
this vid pushed me over the line
Yup. Bought one after this too.
Thank you for yet another outstanding episode.
jam pedals is king. more of a plug and play pedal. sounds glorious.

I doubt there's never been more of a keeper pedal than the Fulldrive 2. By that I mean the one pedal that has gone onto a board and never left.
Picked up a vibe machine after hearing Andy’s on this show. No regrets here... glad you got yours to sound better.
No JHS unicorn?
nickshall1 Unicorn toenails and fairy dust.
Iv been waiting so long for today and dan doing the univibe episode!!!!!! Hell yeas
Has anyone used the Yamaha rotary speakers that Gilmoiur used? the smaller versions show up for sale now and then and one day i think ill grab one . I think he used the Yamaha ra 200 s.
John F I used to have one- sounded amazing.
@@thebossandthebeestonstreet9493 Thanks i figured that. the tweeters rotating horizontally sound way better than the Leslie rotating vertically
I’ve got an RA200 and for guitar I find it to be the best rotary speaker. It’s a shame it weighs over 200 lbs making it impossible to gig with.
That was outstanding! Thanks once again for the ONE “broadcast” I actually wait for. Friday is TPS day!!!
"All you need is db. Db is all you need." - a new TPS shirt. :)
This will happen. If Strymon don't hate us too much to send us one. :0/
That Pedal Show if you can get access to a Binson to pair with the space echo for comparison on the show I think it’d be pretty legendary. 😁
That Pedal Show plus, I doubt they hate you! The deco video you made way back is how I justified buying it!
Joshua Boitnott me too.. at least 2 deco sales on the back of that pedal show on this thread alone. Much timeline love from dan over the years too! Send them one strymon!
3 Deco sales
Very good job guys. After logging in what seems like close to a million cyber-miles on YT checking out so many various gear videos, I am somewhat amazed that this is the first time I've ran across your show ( or is it?-hmmm?...).
Anyway, really enjoyed it- fine playing, great amps, guitars and of course pedals. Most of all, the annoyance factor, that affects each of us differently on different levels, and according to which station we're listening to- was noticeably absent here, I found. Entertaining and eductional, quite a good combo.
Cheers P, welcome!
Just here to comment about the dB meter. :-}
Shit. Now I need a vibe. Thanks guys :/
