The better i get at guitar the more i apreciate Dave.
IVE JUST PURCHASED A Nux Voodoo Vibe BECASUE OF THIS VIDEO. THANKS DAVE !
I want a Dave T shirt that says, "I'm Eating My Own Hair" 🎸
Had a crappy day. Watched Dave. Felt better.
We will have tee shirts of Dave Simpson in 50 years time just like Hendrix we have now , Fantastic cheers Dave👍🏻🏴🏴👏👏👏🎸
They all sound good, but sweet mother of Jesus… that Nux sounds amazing 😮
Was a massive chili peppers been when I first started playing guitar so naturally i started watching David. it’s only now eight years down the road I realise how instrumental David was in my progression as a guitarist, thank you David
Awesome playing Dave, never get tired of listening.
BTW ... I have an original 1974 Shin-E Univibe Pedal , which I bought in 1978 ... and I have to say that the NUX voodoo vibe sounds very similar ... if only it had the external pedal!
Hello Sir Dave of the famous folk tribe "Danc-n Dave and the Gitchey Gitchey Goo's". Loved your 94' World Tour at the "Oct Ta Liber Festival in the Pine Shire of Scary Tree's.
Sounds great, Dave!
Nice video and demo Dave. This is exactly how uni-vibes should be demonstrated. You made all 3 sing.
They all sound fantastic :) My personal favourite is the fulltone mdv-3 deja vibe. With the rate the price is getting higher, I can soon buy a retirement house by selling it lol
I love the fulltone stuff. I have a 1998 hand wired big box deja vibe. I paid $100 in the early 2000s.
I just ordered the NUX VooDoo based on Dave's utter Joy with it. My main board has the Keeley Montrrey, and it's staying put there. The VooDoo wilp be going on a grab-n- go board.
Rotovibe for me Dave as you have full control as the other 2 need a pause to set.
Old is gold brother Dave, great playing as always ❤️
Great stuff
Voodoo vibe on 'blue chorus' setting is like woodstock in a box!
Thankfully I have all three so I don't have to go out and buy something this time. Not being in the room and listening to it on my computer (albeit with a good set of speakers) I couldn't tell the difference mate. Good video!
Hey Dave what's up my brother from a different country I love the blues riff that sounds great bro I love that. Its the reason why I'm so in love with strats they can b so versatile ya know anyway sounded great dude keep rocking In the free world.keep the vids coming thanks bro good to see ya always good im obsessed with ur channel I love it well thanks agian have a great day stay safe and in good health peace out bro hope to see ya soon
Katana, then Rotavibe, then Nux to my ears
I just purchased 2 of your Albums. Amazing music and artistry.
Thank you very much. :)
The depths.
Great timing on this video Dave, I’ve been watching Randy Hansen Hendrix videos and was thinking about buying a vib, after watching this video I ordered a voodoo vibe from Artist guitars in Australia
Hi Dave, what settings did you have on the voodoo vib?
I have owned many vibes but they all felt like they nailed one thing but lacked in another. I finally took the plunge last year and bought the Sabbadius Tiny Vibe '68 and my search is over. The perfect blend of thumpy throb with that almost detuned, liquid swirl.
It's expensive but I'm glad I bought one. The best vibe I've ever used.
Awesome review Dave. You're the only one who's demoed the voodoo properly. I was after exactly that thing where the vibe grabs onto and chews the guitar tone. Had sort of dismissed the voodoo from other videos I'd seen but your vid made me go for it - arrived today and really impressed with it. It does exactly that thing I was after and for a really decent price. I'd previously owned the deja vibe and was somewhat underwhelmed by it, especially considering the price but the voodoo properly nails it. Great work.
You've got me hankering for a vibe now but want something fairly cheap as usual 😁
Thanks Dave, like the Nux
Good enough for me, Dave. I’ve just ordered the Voodoo Vibe, and I’ve already got a Katana, so it’ll be fun to compare them in my setup.
Wow. That katana vibe is brilliant
I just bought the voodo vibe and I can't wait for it to arrive, I almost bought an mxr vibe for much more money, I'm glad for your recommendation!
Which one do you like more? Im thinking of getting the Nux voodoo vibe
My favorite Vibe ist the Fulltone Mini Deja Vibe Mk 2.
Fulltone Deja Vibe
i have a Boss V-Wah that has a Univibe setting which can be controlled by the sweep of the pedal and using the various intensity and drive settings on the rotary controls gives a delicious Univibe colour to the overall sound of the guitar. for all the Robin Trower fans it is great to throw in some Trower chords during a performance - it's a great pedal. 😁
My favorite patch of Jimi Hendrix is the zoom the expression petal. It always does all the songs the best!!! And you have on your board already!!
Man I love that sound..👍✌️
I've just found a little bit of heaven!
Being a beginner in this crazy guitar world and I've heard u talk of Uni Vibes but I didn't actually know what one was 🤔 ( is it an amp? a pedal? ) .. my light was dim but now I am illuminated and I have never heard such a perfect sound 😁
Added to the 'fings wot I want' list of things I dream of having one day.
Thanks Dave you are a special vibe... had me creasing up you describing the Katana Uni Vibe at the start coz I had the same feeling on hearing the effect.
You are Boss ✌️✊👏
The Moen Shaky Jimi is one of my personal faves. The older versions do that weird rhythm thing, but ive heard the newer ones are more like a phaser. I wish it were a bit brighter, but otherwise it's honestly one of the best I've ever tried.
❤ sum uniV Dave
My all-time favorite effect. My first time using it was in my Digitech RP500 and I was so stoked that it had a vibe. I've tried the vibe in the newer Fender Mustang amps and in the helix and I wasn't too thrilled with how the effect sounded. I eventually got the Monterey Vibe. I am in love with that! Like everyone else, I'm wondering what the difference is between the Monterey and the Voodoo vibe.
i like my tc electronics viscous vibe , it beeing digital and the ability of tweaking it .
All usable but that voodoo vibe just got to have one!🙂👍🎸
I've wanted a vibe for a while, but my spending capabilities have always said no. I love mini pedals and when i saw this had a tap tempo function i was highly intrigued. After hearing your videos on the voodoo vibe you have sold it too me and i have just placed an order for one.
That NUX is actually really good. I am going with your picks in that order. Not big on those effects, but it is really cool played that way.
Well, I'm a Vibee chile, oh lawd, I'm a Vibee chile ...
Robin Trower ... very good with the univibe ... as are you Dave ....👍👍👍
I once experimented with my TC blood moon phaser and TC tremolo to create a poor man’s univibe…it worked but I’m looking forward to adding an actual vibe pedal haha. Nice jam and thanks for the comparisons !
Thank you for confirming that the voodoo vibe sounds good. It is also the most compact and the only one with tap tempo and stereo.
These are all supposed to be clones of the same circuit. I suspect the difference might be the placement of the LDR‘s and the light source. In which case the most authentic clone should have the same light and LDR layout.
From what I hear the most accurate clone is supposed to be a Fulltone Deja Vibe. The older ones from the 90s have an identical circuitboard layout. It looks like in the newer ones they shrunk everything that didn’t matter, but kept the same light and LDR layout. The new compact ones go for $300 in the US but you might be able to get an old used full size one for around $350.
Sitting in a giant field with tens of thousands of other people listening to the master play - no not Hendrix (though I wish we still could) but Dave Simpson. . Hopefully one day it will happen.
Katana of the 3 you played. My MXR M68 is my favorite, but that could just be because I'm so used to it.
I’ve had my rotovibe since 2001, absolutely love it and base all univibes on that. Bought the MXR uni-vibe a few years back and for the price it’s fine but not amazing. The Keeley Monterey has a wicked uni in it. Also the Jam retro vibe is probably the great one ever but it’s $$$$
I have the DLS Versa Vibe, stunning and lots of control options.
Hi Dave, Another great video. can you make a video how to adjust the trem of a Stratocaster? Best regards from Belgium, Rainer.
just ordered the Nux on a whim and am relieved to see that Dave recommends it. As a fellow Mike McCready fan I have the Rotovibe too and while I love the sound and the control of it I prefer to just step on a single button while playing live and needed something small to fit on my board. What I love about the Rotovibe which people rarely mention: It doesn't change your tone. It's not noticeable in these youtube demos but when you play through the pedals yourself, many univibes take away some presence resulting in a muffled tone, especially when playing more clean sounds. I got rid of some otherwise great pedals because this issue: EHX Good Vibes, MXR M68 Univibe , Moen Jimi zero. Excited to see how the NUX will perform with my rig
Wow, that NUX Vooduu Vibe has a Stereo mode and TRS jacks to run into separate Amps, for extra psychedelic trippyness at a good price, I might have to get one! ?
It's Saint Wednesday people of the tube !
...I need"Chewy",my Brother !!!...The Roto-Vibe?...I'm not crazy about the "highs"...
Man did he erupt in the beginning damnn
Ive always thought the Katana univibe kicks ass. So much so its the pedal I left out on my board to just use that one
I like the TriVibe DIY thing by RunOffGroove (it has 3 modes), except for the nasty click when engaging the foot switch. Available as a kit at some places for 20..30 bucks or so, for anyone who likes to solder ^^
It's the Rotovibe for me, all day long as you are hands free, and you can push through the sweep. The other 2 would be OK in the studio but the Dunlop is the one I'd use live and the studio. I had some Univibe presets in my line6 flextone3 Amp, and maybe, I don't remember if it was in my POD.2.0, but if it was it was probably crap, as were most of the effects in the amp that were factory setting which I edited as best I could and got a few usable effects, more so in the POD, which is a great piece of kit. I'd dare say the best product Line6 ever produced. I never actually used the univibe patch so I'm sure it was crap. I'm a Dunlop fan boy so I prefer their Crybaby, so their version of the Univibe wins for me, but I respect your choice Dave, you made them all sound great.
Having tried for a while to get that '69 vibe Jimi sound (and since given up on it) I think that sat here listening to this vid on my speakers that the Rotovibe sounded most authentic. Of course by playing then your ears will be affected by the feel as you play. They all sounded better I thought by not using the lead sound too? Everything is relative of course and using RUclips via a PC isn't exactly perfect for giving a proper opinion. I have tried two vibe pedals, the MXR version from a few years back and the Fulltone De-ja Vibe and neither cut the mustard. I didn't keep the MXR thing and though I still have it here, I haven't even put the Fulltone pedal on my board for years now. If I want that slightly vibey sound now, more for Bridge of Sighs than anything Hendrixy, I just use an old MXR Phase 90. Those old proper vibes are both ultra expensive as you say and temperamental. Thanks for the video as always.
I have a lovepedal vibronaut an early 5 knob model which i will never sell.. It's perfect & very tweakable & contians trim pots inside for bias, mix, drive.. I have tried monterey, mxr 68, shaky jimi, roger mayer voodoo vibe, & the lovepedal is my favourite, find one if you can!
DAMN THAT NUX SOUNDS KILLER!
Nux sounds the best to my ears
Damn im gonna have to try the nux voodoo vibe it's pretty cheap too has that great throb
The Katana has every thing you need effects wise just a bit of a pain in the ass going into the menus
I've got a 5 Cats Deep Down, which is a modified clone of the EQD Depths, and it sounds great. Really hard to dial in though
Rotovibe for me as an all rounder, then the nux to nail the hendrix vibe
Good shoot out Dave. I like them all but the NUX does sound very good. Just a thought >>> Ever tried blending a chorus pedal, vibrato pedal and maybe a touch of phase pedal, to get that sound ??
Danelectro cool cat vibe is a good low priced entry into "real" incandescent bulb univibes, preferably the later ones with the volume trimmer in the battery compartment. Picked mine up for £30 a few years ago. Lacks a bit in the low end throbbiness compared to my DIY univibe in a wah pedal though.
Interesting, I’ve never even messed with my katana univibe, my favorite effect as well. I’ve got boss md 200 univibe which is probably the same, but use my Jhs unicorn just because it’s easier to mess with, switch between rotary vibe and such.
I really like the Voodoo vibe by NUX, have a pretty effect. The Jimmi Hendryx univibe is so transcendent and magical, its a good travel hear her songs and what he has with your guitar. Maybe i try make a original Univibe clone in the future.
BandCamp is great by the way 👍
The Voodoo Vibe has some extra grease that reacts to overdrive/distortion best.
The Monterey Vibe is a great mini pedal too. 👌🏾
It seems like they stopped making the Monterey when the Voodoo was introduced. I've seen a few Montereys for sale, but the retail sites don't have them. Wish NUX would clarify because I loved demos of the Monterey and wanted to get one.

At that price point, the Moen Shaky Jimi was the best one I had. It’s got a similar sound as Nux Monterey.
There are still $50 new ones on Reverb. The used ones, are all higher priced than a new one.
Just get the one with Jimi holding a guitar, on it the face of the pedal, not the one yhat just says Shaky Jimi or the Jimi Nova, which is supposed to be a smaller enclosure, but two I’ve had didn’t sound the same, as the Shaky.
I mean, if one likes Uni Vibes, but not the high end ones, that are $400+, there are plenty of good ones for $150-200.
The difference is no preamp, which is one reason I don’t care for the one in the Katana as much. It’s similar to the one in Keeley Monterey and Dark Side digital multi effects pedals.
Playing with a band, it doesn’t cut through the mix like others.
@@sundaynightdrunk
They claimed it’s the same circuit, back when they first came out.
@@CorbCorbin Oh, interesting. I wonder if they had a problem using the Monterey name and just changed it with the same circuit in the box? They do seem to sound slightly different, though. Do you remember where you saw that it was the same circuit?
The Katana sounds best to me. I think you can control the speed with an expression pedal, which would be great. I personally use a Moen Shaky Jimi, I think it sounds full and chewy, without busting my wallet. Great vid Mr Dave!
I have set my Katana to control the univibe speed with the exp pedal
The Moen is awesome. It does that weird rhythm thing that most vibe pedals do not. I wish it were a bit brighter, but otherwise it's honestly one of the best I've ever tried.
If you add a chorus pedal with the rotovibe it might be a lot closer maybe a phaser with it
While I agree that NUX pedals are amazing, I’m using The Digitec Ventura Vibe.
This pedal is great and has many different options.
The Best Univibe Copy, is the Drybell Vibe Machine.
I’d have bought one if I used Univibe often, but I don’t.
Also, it’s expensive, $289.00 at Thomann’s..
You need to try it….
I think the that voodo vibe and the Rotovibe sound very similar . The Rotovibe probably just knicks it because of the expression pedal and coolness!
I love the Pedal Pawn Gypsy Vibe myself. I haven't tried the NuX though?
I have a few uni vibes including the one in the Boss MD 500. I can’t tell the difference between my photo cell vibes and the digital Boss.
Mine are the Fulltone deja vibes and Electro harmonix good vibes..
very good vibes
Deja Fulltone was just out of my spending budget. Voodoo vibe on 'blue chorus' setting is like woodstock in a box!
Hey Dave, i thought the Katana sounder killer. I actually have one and tbh, I don't why I don't use it more often? So, hows about uploading your toneprint, and help to change that? Anyways, keep up the keep up the good work, Also, I think the trio are sounding great and I'm loving the gig vlogs and stories too, so Hi, to them too, Is there a new album in the pipeline yet? x
I guess the word combination you're after is Noshing Buttery Chewy?
You should also check out the Kokko Vibe or the Mosky Ch-Vibe. Out of these three, I think the NUX has the best character but I like the functionality of the Roto because of the treadle. Hard choice, but I would probably go Roto since I'm not much of UniVibe guy.
A treadle flanger would be wild though.
LOVE vibe😎👍
My favorite is the DryBell, but too much $$$😐
The Boss Katana Vibe sounds great.
The VooDoo Vibe gets my VOTE for tone and $..$76.00...!!!😎👍
I agree with you, the Boss Vibe sounds best
I think the Rotovibe edges it. The NUX sounds cool, but sounds more like a modified phaser to me. However the way I like my pedals is as small as possible to fit on my compact board, so if I needed a vibe I'd get the NUX.
Dave ,Dave,Dave…… No What you want are the Sabbadius or Gypsy Vibe or Shin-Ei More $$$ but those are real Vibes Less money Digitech EX-7. Mosky Ch-Vibe or Jhs Unicorn v2 Tru-fi Ghost Vibe or Harmonic Tremelo Great demo Thanks always for sharing
Dave! I need your help, trying to figure out a tone. I'm trying to recreate Uli Jon Roth's sound in a live Polar Nights video. It's an older one (on Swiss TV) where he starts off doing a little percussive, muted strings 'soloing'.
How do you dial that tone? Sounds so good
They are good ✅. 👍☮️🌞🎸❤️
I’m probably gonna get a rotovibe asap, was also thinking about the jhs unicorn, anyone got any tips? Does the rotovibe have a photocell light?(meaning that is it a true vibe like the originals?)
Yeah they are all good. I'm interested in the Voodoovibe cos it's a pedal and i don't need to buy another amp as good as the katana seems to be. Have you come across the Korg Nuvibe? It's good but it's gotta be separately powered it won't work if you daisey chain it on a pedal board power supply. Something that doesn't get mentioned on any video review that ive come across. It's about 350 $AU which not bad for what you get cos it truly looks awesome. check it out on RUclips old son. Keep up the excellent work. Cheers mate
You have to go along with what the Univibe sends you, there is a learning curve to mastering the Hendrix Trower thing with the Univibe.
I find many players either have the speed to fast or way to slow.
You have to phrase your cords and notes to the correct speed of the modulation of the Univibe to master it I guess is what I'm saying.
I Love rotovibe this is classic uni vibe pedal. That's my thought;)
Have you tried de fulltone deja vibe, the depths or the jhs unicorn? Comments?
I LOVE MY BOSS RT-20!
I have Fulltone Mini Deja-vibe 2, but because it really wasn't cheap, is pretty hungry, is big and heavy I got the TC Viscous Vibe. (over here no one really cares about mr. Fuller getting kind of weird lately, me not being sure what I think about it) Wish I got MDV3 which has separate foot switch. I can get the Viscous Vibe sounding enought univibey to get me in the "Machine Gun / Bridge of Sights" zone - not just soundwise, for me it's kind of state of flow.
Out of these 3 I'd say I like the Voodoo Vibe the most.
Dave!! This is super off topic, well not super but a tad - I jus recently got this new pedal called the ‘freqout’ it’s a feedback pedal that’s actually crazy. Given I know you play at loud volumes so you probably get feedback w out even trying but still. This little thing is killer you gotta check it out please!
Maybe you're not aware Dave but you can assign an expression pedal to control the speed of the uni-vibe in the Katana. Of course, you'll have to dig into BTS to do it. I guess I ought to wait to the end before commenting ROFL.
