My TOP 10 Univibe Pedals!

- The Univibe is one of my favourite modulation effects. So I have quite a few of them in this video I'm comparing my 10 favourite Univibes. Well, 9 actually. Two aren't Univibes but can get really vibey. Those count als half. Which makes 10.
I'll be checking out each vibe pedal on its own and then with the JAM Pedals Fuzz Phrase after and in front of each pedal. Let me know in the comments which your favourite vibe is!

Thanks for the inclusion! There really are some amazing univibes out there
One of the best comparative videos I've seen. Was very helpful. Great playing too! 🎸
LOVE Uni-Vibe! Great video Sasha! Thank you.
i loved the pedals!! and the playing... whoa !!! nailed it !!! really great playing!!
This video is simply amazing ! Thank you so much for doing it and doing it well : Fuzz, before and after, great great work man !
Oh and amazing playing as ever ! Cheers
Lovely demo, and your starting tone is killer!
Sasha your playing is killer. Every pedal sounded brilliant.
Great video!! Helped my choose the Unicorn V2. Great vibe tones at a sensible price. 👍🏼🎸
That gypsy vibe has the goods!! Love how chewy it is. Fantastic playing throughout the demo, it really helps when hearing vibe pedals. Thank you!
It's $1k new wtf
@@benink5690I traded a couple of pedals in on one at Southern Guitars. Still paid $475. But, it's 100% spot on to a real UniVibe.
It adds a lot of low midrange and shaves off top end.
I didn't know I needed so many vibe pedals. This is perfect evidence that I do!
Wooooooooow!
I need all of them 🙌❤️
I miss around 4 of what you listed here ✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
I also miss 4 more 🤜🤛😄
About time...!! Great to see the Drybell on there.
Sorry it took so long
My favorite combo was the cornerstone aquarium with the jam pedals fuzz phase, love the clarity and cut, and explosiveness. Bad ass man! Thank you for sharing!!
I had a Cornerstone Aquarium and did not like it at all. It did not sound like the demoes of it whatsoever but like a Chorus. Thank God that Pedal Pawn let me trade the Cornerstone Aquarium for a Pedal Pawn Gypsy Vibe.
Watching this has fast-tracked my progression to insanity. They all sound very good, and several sound absolutely great. My favourites are those with a more asymmetric throb, especially the double throb “heartbeat”.
Edit: i forgot to say what an awesome video this is. Thankyou for making such a great piece - this is youtube at its best. I realise i’m 1 year late…
I ordered the cheapest vibe; tc electronic Viscous Vibe on Thomann after watching this :-)
Bought my first univibe and got it in the mail yesterday, earthquaker depths! I love it!
On to many more! ❤️
A nice comparison video. Great sound.
Amazing playing and tones! Love your fuzz tones without the vibes as well! Anytime I tried playing with fuzz myself it turned out to be a disaster, so it's nice to hear it can actually sound so fantastic. And then the univibe pedals add even more magic depths to the tone.
😅
Sasha, I love you. This is the best Univibe video on YT (JHS smells anyway). I will low key learn all the licks you use in this video, then take over the (gear) world, or simply just let you do it!😅
Cool demo! My eqd the depths and my new fulltone mini deja vibe gives me great tones and deep sounds ✌️.
Great tone and riffs!!!!!!
Awesome base tone! Adding the vibes; just made me very inspired to play ! Hopefully u have something on that amp, I will check, thanks!!
Love my Unicorn every day, you are right, the color is pretty rad ;) great video mate !
Hey great seeing you here man! Thanks a lot!
Ive been wanting to get a Uni-Vibe for a long time now. I was trying to hold out until i can spend the extra cash and get something in the higher price range, but ended up taking advantage of the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals JHS is having and purchased the Unicorn V2. 164 USD was too attractive of a price. Lol. I cant wait for it to arrive and play through my first real analog Uni-Vibe! So excited! Thanks for your fantastic video. Your playing is superb like usual and its a wealth of information hearing all these amazing pedals in relation to one another. Thanks for doing what u do.
Great video as always, Sasha!
The best vibe I've ever played probably has to be the RWeaverFX Midnight/Violet Vibe, definitely worth checking out if you get the chance!
Edit: I get the feeling there's something very special about Vibes that run off of 18v.
Will do, thanks!!
Some incredible pedal's here. I own the Drybell ( I like it ) - but Nothing compares to the Shiftee Vibe = thick, hypnotic, liquid, underwater . . . THROB. Trust me. Awesome job with the video. Enjoyed it. oNe LovE from NYC
Thank you Sasha for this magnificent video! I had been shopping and researching uni-vibes so I could get that throb for playing Trower and Hendrix songs. The licks you used (bluesy) and the way you let the notes sustain, plus the length of time between tweaking the knobs, gave me a chance to hear what I was listening for. You helped me decide to get the photo-cell vibe and not settle for the cheaper modeling chip kind. I could hear how the JHS Unicorn had that curl in the depth knob that made the guitar talk along with that awesome throb. The Gypsy Vibe with the awesome throb knob had that same sound like the guitar talked with a voice, but it was far too expensive to buy. I purchased the JHS Unicorn which had a better price and I am getting my Jimi on. Thank you Sasha! Your demo video helped me tremendously! Rock On! Coy Jackson
I too had the Retrovibe… sold it to try others… then bought it again. I love it. I shall never part with it again. Thank you for the excellent video, subscribe!
Amazing, amazing, amazing, vibe is my favorite effect pedal, thanks Sasha you are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video. That Fjord had something else, something more, to me.
You deserve way more subs and views. Great playing and great production. I ordered the Argenziano a few days ago. I'm just at that point where I'm tired of dreaming of owning this type of gear, and have started buying it.
The point of no return
@@SashaIvantic And it's never felt better. I bought a 67-68 Arbiter Fuzzface, and a 67-68 Vox Clyde McCoy Script recently as well
Wooooo!! 🟥⬜️💪
Your playing is absolutely phenomenal! I literally forgot I was watching a pedal video. 🔥🤘👍
That’s a huge compliment, thank you!
Dude, I had this video on repeat, so good
...Sir,thank you for all your work!!!...I have a Fulltone (...the "Robin Trower" one, with the pedal!!!...Very cool!!!...)...They are "ALL" cool!!!...Much-love from Southern Illinois...Peace,my Brother...
Great collection! Love them all really. The Cornerstone is very intriguing. Love to try one out.
I’m currently using the Kingtone 1968. Two separate circuits, both with Chorus/Vibrato options, with speed and depth control. Has a little preamp to get a very vintage signal.
I’m saving for the Sabbadius 68’, or the Woodstock, as it has the expression and a killer preamp,, which can be bypassed, or kept on like the vintage units.
I’d compare Sabbadius’s to the Argenziano, or Pedal Pawn, just in a smaller box.
Argenziano gypsy vibe definitely sounds and looks the most authentic by a mile, there must have been some serious research and geekery gone into that build!
I have the drybell it’s great both pedalboard and wallet friendly!
great video..... love my magma !!! but a couple in there were super !!!
Fjord Fuzz Freia- no complaints there, sound cool with fuzz
Formula B Vintage Vibe mk2- best value, a bit more of a pronounced attack coming through in both the lows and highs
Cornerstone Aquarium- this thing is bananas. that signal could rewire neuropathways in your brain for sure
Argenziano Gypsy Vibe- makes me want to write an anti-war/violence musical masterpiece
I always enjoy your videos, apart from the pedals what does the rest of your rig comprise of?
Very nice channel man,I have the fulltone cs deja vibe ,think Robin trower use it seems smaller than the non cs version.
VERY COOL PLAYING!!!! ❤
That cornerstone Aquarium is other worldly! Wow!
but no tap tempo. essential.
@@peternorth6782not really essential when you have a knob or a pedal. It’s not that hard to dial in the speed on a vibe. Also the aquarium you have 2 speeds and a button you can choose the speed to which it climbs to the other speed which is a cool feature.
You have a fantastic touch to your playing. This is coming from a really picky fan too.
Like Fuzz, the world of Vibe is filled with subtle flavors. I appreciate the Fuzz comparison. I know players have different preferences about where to put the Fuzz? It’s a totally different color each way. Great comparison!
Pedal Pawn, and last Vibe are by far the closest to an actual UniVibe sound? They’re the only ones that I preferred after the Fuzz. Again, great comparison!
Just want to let you know thanks to your review and channel, I have now purchased the Cornerstone Aquarium, Jam Pedals Retro Vibe, Fuzz Phrase and soon to be Harmonious Monk. Was in the market for a vibe and could not decide on one so I got both lol. Love the sounds I am getting and having so much fun with it. Sparked a whole new level of interest in playing again for me and just want to say… Thank you!!! (Retro vibe is on its way and can’t wait to experience it) I’m going to need a new (bigger) pedal board now! LOL
This means a lot me man. Comments like these keep me going. My apologies for making you spend money but I'm happy to hear you enjoy those pedals ❤️
@@SashaIvantic No apologies necessary, these pedals hold their value so well and it was money well spent!! Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the great work! Really appreciate all that you do! Cheers from Virginia and rock on brother!🍻🤘🏻.
Nice comparison video! Very consistent playing with each pedal! Personally I use the Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe and Fuzz is the Swollen Pickle. Great job.
Argenziano Gypsy Vibe all the way :) If I had to have a small board formula B would be my choice. My friends love a lot of options in their pedals so they would go for Cornerstone :) All of the vibes sounded good but for Jimi Hendrix sounds - A. Gypsy Vibe! Great Job Sasha.
PS. It's so cool that there are so many types of univibe now to choose from :)
Thanks a lot man! Yeah, there's is plenty to choose from!
Sabbadius 68’ and Mastermind are my favorites, with an actual preamp that can be bypassed, but I got a great trade for a Kingtone 68’, which has two separate circuits, instead of just speed control. One can switch between the two, using either Chorus or Vibrato.
When I got to try the Pedal Pawn Gypsy, the throb was similar, but the Kingtone is a small enclosure, with two vintage circuits. I’d like to have expression control, but one can’t have everything.
For a Vibe in a smaller sized enclosure, the Villanova from Mojo Hand FX is the best I’ve found.
Same size as the JHS, has a mix control, the volume knob can get it hairy, like a vintage circuit, with just a beautiful throb and sound.
I’m saving for the Sabbadius now.
The only ones I haven’t owned or tried in this video, are the newer Cornerstone and J Rockett ones.
Really, one can’t go wrong with any of these, it’s just a matter of taste.
I often put the Villanova before Fuzz and the Kingtone after, so I can get both sounds.
@@CorbCorbin What do you think to the Formula B?
great Review man! Drybell to me is the best. Most authentic with the smallest form factor. Cant beat it
Thorough tests.. thank you. Beer sent.
Haha! Cheers!! 😁🍻
What a list 👏 👏 👏
Enough variety ✅
Fuzz pairing ✅
Minimum talking ✅
What more could you want?
Well done 👏
🚬🥃🎚📻🎵🧲👍
Thank You. The Origin is a lot of FX in a Board friendly size. The Behemoth plug in model was nice. Origin for it's size & multi purpose use. Solid Demo. New Sub. \m/-
My MXR Univibe (Speed, Level, Depth and Vibe) is always the main and/or fall-back unit---hard to ignore, hard to fail, built like the proverbial tank. Maybe a little over-priced but always worth every dime. The uni-vibe built into my Boss ME 80 is also dead-on.
The Univibe was not to replicate the Leslie sound. It was to recreate the Radio Moscow signal that the creater heard from his home in Japan.
BMF just released the 915 Vibe unit this year that no youtuber has put much attention to. I'd love to hear what you'd do with it. Its a small footprint, with a cancel footswitch, chorus/vibrato, bulb build with a buffer option switch and expression out. Give that one a look if you feel so inclined to try ANOTHER! I love the sounds you got of the Pedal Pawn. Great vid and big fan.
Great job here! Thank you. I have the unicorn and don't see it going anywhere soon.
I have a fulltone custom shop mini dejavibe, sounds great
Svaka čast.
Wonderful comparison, thanks a lot! - Since your guitar tone is rather dark and woody I preferred the Unicorn and Aquavibe in this context. Having most of these vibes on my own, I would have liked to hear the Gypsy Vibe with less intensity. And yes, as a vibe afficionado you should get the Sabbadius Funky-Vibe of your choice; you won't regret it! :o) - I did not like the Weaver Violet Vibe, the Kingston 1986 is great! - And although it does not sport photocells, the Korg Nuvibe is extremely outstanding! - Happy vibrations!!!
drybell is on my board.... best vibe i have ever heard...
I have the vintage vibe and it’s spectacular, definitely not chasing a vine anymore!
I have the unicorn v2 . Definitely has to have a isolated power source or it's a bit noisy when disengaged . I do think it sounds good probably impedance sensitive as well . I am really really wanting the pedal pawn gypsie vibe bad it sounds amazing. That Fuzz your using sounds awesome
I fucking LOVE vibe pedals!
For an inexpensive option, I got a Nux Monterey Vibe that's versatile and sounds great on my small board. On my big board sits my personal favorite, the Fuzzrocious Electric Ocean, which has 2 phasers + fuzz in one awesomely painted box.
34:37 - 34:42 man the way your attack is hitting the strings on them bends right there sounds searingly good
Idea: How to enhance your Fuzz sound. Discuss: the amp setting, overdrives, Vibes, Octave up/down, delay…etc. How does hitting the front of a Fuzz effect the Tone? Illustrate some golden combinations, and how to get there.
How adjusting your guitar volume effects the whole process.
for me my two favorite pedals are the argenziano gypsy vibe which is the best and the vintage vibe from formula b which sounds really good and doesn't take up much space. excellent video as always, the best RUclipsur guitar ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🙏🏻
The Argenziano Gypsy Vibe or the Pedal Pawn Gypsy Vibe?
@@randomonlineactivity sorry I didn't specify. argenziano gypsy vibe
Thanks a lot man!!
I think the pedal pawn gypsy vibe has it for half the price.
Very cool.
That was incredible! What amp are you using?
I use the Uni-vibe setting on the Keeley Monterey. Add that octave down and it doesn't get much better than that
I couldnt get my head around the Monterey. I'm a bit of a Luddite so perhaps I just needed something simpler... Traded it for the JHS Unicorn which doesn't confuse and scare me, and I'm eenjoying that for the Vibe sounds at the moment
I'm a firm believer in the Hendrix style of Univibe after fuzz, but it was good to hear them compared before as well. Nice video Ivantic! Also, the Pedal Pawn Gypsy Vibe = 🤯🤯🤯🤤🤤🤤
Me too, although a lot of players prefer it in front of a fuzz so I thought let's include that!
@@SashaIvantic Univibe really great sounds in pair with FF when connected before it. Overall tone has such a nice dynamic boost with some sort of lush and hypnotic deepness in the tone and it doesn't sounds like a phaser as it behave when it connected after fuzz. My Danelectro do it in that way. I really like a tone before fuzz way more.
The Maxwell Strat sounds great.
I use Isle of tone and I have JAM harmonic monk, Dry bell V3 and VS audio Alchemy mk2 on my board.
R Weaver midnight vibe for me super organic with deep throb. Although just picked up a Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe TC (rare as a unicorn), pedal friendly surprisingly deep throb and very creamy for a non-optical. As far as this demo, The Gypsy Vibe does it for me.
Did you prefer the Pedal Pawn or Argenziano?
The Origin pedal has to be the bargain of the bunch: really cheap (compared to most of the others), great vibe, and amp simulation (= gain/overdrive) thrown in. I've just ordered one.
Didn't dislike any of them, but to my ears the Pedal Pawn Gypsy Vibe is the only one that might tempt me to switch from my original Fulltone DejaVibe from '95!
Hey Sasha, great video and playing! A little off topic, I notice that you both own the Cali76 and the Clearcomp 1078. I wonder if I were to get a new comp pedal, which would you recommend more? Thankss
Well it's safe to say they both perform a stellar job. I'm not a very die-hard compressor user so for me they perform similarly. At high compression settings the Clearcomp is quieter. Otherwise they do an equally good job.
Well done Sasha. They all sounded great to be honest. I have a H&K Rotosphere, a Deja Vibe 2 pedal treading model, a Deja Vibe ( both made by Fulltone) , Lovepedal vibes / Hermida vibes and more I suppose, but use whatever you can afford. It’s a great sound period. The Rotosphere operates exactly like the original, but she’s a phat girl.
Thicc is good 🍑
I have the Moen "Shaky jimi". It was like 30 bucks. I'm no vibe expert, but I really like it. Also the boss v-wah has a vibe that is so suttle I just keep it on all the time.
Vote for Jimi Nova, it does the job and for the price its decent. Way better than the MXR Univibe
OK...Univibe pedals. I'm in. I own the JAM Retrovibe....it's a dream come true. It always seems to be exactly what I want.....It's pushed a phaser out...and a chorus. I wish it had presets. And you need fuzz.....you always need fuzz.
The big silver box 18v Dunlop from the 90s is a really great uni vibe.
Doesn’t get better than the big silver box. Too bad the new MXR version doesn’t sound as good because it fits WAY better on a board!
Yea Kenny Wayne Shepard uses it. I would like to try one!
Honestly, they all sound good.. and a few sound about the same to me haha... I have a older big fulltone.. but been thinking about some of these other ones.. Pedal pawn... theres some others ive forgotten the names of.. Anyways nice video
Sounds pretty similar on record, but there's something about univibes on how they feel
I had Drybell v2 and it sounded amazing, but when i got Shin-Ei Vibe2 i never turned Drybell on again. It's like real vs emulation
Wall plug big univibes are reported to be even more real - better blend guitar and vibe into single musical instrument. Technically it's just better low mids response. What makes Shin Ei Vibe2 great is that it has many internal trimpots to adjust the bias - so i still hope to go into a rabbit hole someday and try to make it feel closer to wall plug univibes
What do you guys think of the Effectrobe tube vibe pedal?
also check out the dawner prince viberator
it''s my personal favourite
I miss here the Sabbadius. Sound wise I think it’s the most authentic today. I myself have the DryBell v2.
The vintage one to me was the bomb 💣.!! Really killer.. can we still buy that one ?
Argenziano ftw. Subbed
So Sasha what's your favourite picks mate? 1st, then 2nd?
The Viscous Vibe has a wonderful toneprint in mine - beats many other vibes.
Great to hear the Unicorn 🦄 with fuzz. I'm waiting for my Skreddy Juicy Pig fuzz to get built. I'm drooling 🤤 rn
I was so curious and anxious to see how she would sound before or after fuzz! Thanks for letting me know they both sound good in there own way 🙏🏾
Are you the guy that bought it the same day the J Rockett was released? Well, in any case, you don’t have anything to worry about. The Unicorn is killer!
@@SashaIvantic You said it. It sounds great, but then again, you make everything sound good. 😆
Any reason most univibe shootouts don't include the EHX Good Vibes??
I honestly thought the Unicorn had a musical quality that separates it from the rest… bought one based on this review. On a wait list, so I’m sorta excited!
Did you mention the name of that fuzz?
Totally killer!!
And as always… We’ll played sir!!!
Any idea what the difference is between v1 and v2?
@@peternorth6782
I believe only the size
I haven’t seen you demo a strymon flint. I compared the flint to the harmonious monk and thought it sounded better. What are your thoughts on the flint harmonic trem?
I had a Flint for quite some time! That was before I made these videos tho. It's a brilliant pedal, I prefer the optical trem from the Flint over the "normal" mode on the Monk, but I prefer the harmonic tremolo of the Monk over the Flint. Just flavours I guess :)
Great demo 😀
I too am a univibe enthusiast as I own around 10 myself.
Surprised my Full-tone DejaVibe MDV-3 didn’t make your list. It’s about as VIBEY as vibey gets. Even Sir Robin Trower uses one.
Again excellent video though, filled w plenty of tasty blues licks.
Really one of your favs? I had the black fulltone deja vibe. It was a good pedal but it didnt have enough depth or throb so i sold it.
@@Airhead348 agreed. I even stood right in front of Trower here in Austin and I was disappointed with his vibe choice. It just didn't have the depth of his original Univibe.
I've gone through many clones and finally settled on the MJM 60S Vibe. I'm very happy with it, but it's character, like all of them, varies greatly with fuzz (always before), which OD pedals I'm using, where they're set, and then of course, which amp I'm using.
He said that he couldn't get his hands on a Fulltone
I want to try a new vibe (I was looking at Funky Vibe) but I have a Prescription Electronics Vibe-Unit, which seems like it never existed because there's barely an internet trace of it. I don't know if I need another pedal or will think the new one is much better. Wish I could test some others out before buying
Oh wow, I’ve never heard of that one! Sounds like something you should never ever sell!
What makes a good Univibe is the quality of the throb. To me the Vntage Vbe and gypsy vibe had the best throb. You never turn the Vintage Vibe intensity up all the way with the fuzz on so it is hard to tell which one is best of the two. It is a catch 22 also. The Gypsy Vibe has such great graphics but so large for a pedalboard. The Vintage vibe had two speed controls which is great. Gonna be a hard choice. Just wish you had turned up the intensity on the Vingage Vibe with the fuzz on all the way up.
Thanks for compiling all of these Sasha. Great jam.
I've been on a journey for about a dozen years now.
Let's see - as a kid (70s), I attempted to get there with a Phase 90. Nope. Back then, I was stuck with whatever was in the music stores. Original Univibes were already getting pricey with Jimi, Robin, and David's use of them.
Many years passed, and then it was, in no particular order - FOXROX Captain Coconut (fuzz/vibe/octave) a disappointment.
Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe (no photocells IIRC) a disappointment.
Viscous Vibe - didn't expect a lot and sure enough, it met my low expectations and nothing more.
Keeley Lovepedal - fun little pedal that was surprisingly decent for what it was (non photocell)
Sweetsound Ultra Vibe - Had high expectations for this one. Spoke with Bob Sweet for a while, just chatting away. VERY nice guy. RIP friend. Best of the bunch up to that point. I held on to it for about 3 years, but I just wasn't getting where I wanted to be. The Viscous Vibe and Lovepedal noted above were basically place holders until I found "the one".
MJM 60s Vibe - My current and favorite of all of them. I'm in no hurry to replace it, and I have a feeling that anything else I try is going to be on the same level as this, with only voicing differences that I might prefer in some settings and not prefer in others. It's also not terribly large, so there's that. Additionally, I was so happy to locate a '68 Leslie model 16 (same as the Fender Vibratone) a few months ago. Absolutely awesome! Pairs perfectly with my '68 Super Reverb, I could possibly blow the 30w speaker in it with the 45w of the Super, but if so, I'll upgrade it then. Anyway, that is all to say that the monster preamp pedal needed for the Leslie makes me averse to having another large pedal, like the Gypsy Vibe. But I really think my MJM can hang with anything on the market. I'm a Hendrix and Trower fanatic and of that style.
Extra: For some good old fun, I pump the univibe through the Leslie and vary the speeds of both units, and then stack some chorus, and modulated delay into the the mess. Haha, it's awesome fun!
Somehow, my wife doesn't seem to appreciate it as much as I do. Makes bandmates laugh, and then it's usually followed by a "alright let's quit screwing around and get to work!" lol
The new Cornerstone univibe looks incredible, but it’s €520 😱
Nothing beats Fulltone Deja Vibes..hand made and 💯% Authentic Michael Fuller is the best sorry to see him go after 30 years of brilliance...I have the Fulltone Deja Vibe MDV-3 and Fulltone mini Deja Vibe...they are rapidly heading towards the $1,000 mark and rightfully so..
Have you tried the Moon-Vibe MKII by Electronic Orange?
The Moonvibe is absolutely fantastic, if you haven’t tried it. Symmetry control is a genius feature, allowing you to find the sweet spot to suit your amp and pedals. It’s great.
