this video will show you how to replace the transmission solenoid pack.
this can fix issues such as your car being stuck in 2nd gear "limp in mode"
I was getting a P0700 code
when I read it with a code reader I got..
P0770
P0760
P0750
which are all transmission solenoid error codes so I thought for sure this pack needed to be replaced.. unfortunately thid didn't work for me bu it might work for you .
make sure you do your research before performing this costly repair
BEFORE REPLACE SOLENOID PACK TRY REPLACING THESE (buy 2)
Transmission speed sensor: goo.gl/eQ4fXw
ISSUE WAS RESOLVED!!
I later gave up on trying to fix this dreaded P0700 error code and took it into the shop.
they said the transmission was fine, but it was low on ATF+4 so we filled it up, cleared the codes and drove halfway around the block for the code to come back..
they later read all the codes and the one that stood out the most was
P1758: Transmission Relay output ALWAYS OFF
other transmission codes were
P0750: low rev solenoid Circuit
P1734: 2C pressure switch
P1781: Overdrive Pressure Switch
P1733: 4C pressure Switch
P1732: Underdrive Pressure switch
the relay problem signified an electrical issue, so they charged me $90 to check all the cables and make sure power was getting down to the tramsmission. Power was NOT gettting to the transmission so they checked the Relay, The Relay was ok, but the TCM (Transmission Control Module - computer) was not providing power to the Relay. so they instructed me to just buy a new TCM
I went to this site: store.allcomput...
and purchased a new TCM. got it in the mail today 11/11/2013 and BAM!
MY JEEP RUNS LIKE NEW, now that it has a brand new solenoid pack and a new TCM all the Transmission codes are cleared!

Your transmission pan probably got warped by using a flat bar to pry it off instead of using a 1" scraper to "slice"the adhesion. You should check the pan on a flat surface and adjust it accordingly. Also, there is a magnet in the pan, and it's a good idea to use something like brake clean or parts cleaner to clean out the pan and shavings on the magnet. That spin on oil filter should have come off and be replaced while you had it down like that. Use a large channel lock pliers or filter wrench as I've seen on other RUclips videos. It's also a good idea to invest in a fluid extractor to suck the majority of fluid out of the pan before starting this job. It will reduce a lot of the mess. All in all you did a good video and explained the steps real well.
Great video, I am getting ready to do the same thing to my daughters 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The limp mode is showing D3 while driving around and after a diagnoses at the dealer and an estimate of $700 to do this I have been do some research and find that this video and other that I have looked at beneficial to my future repairs. Thanks for posting and keep up the good work.
THANK YOU!!! Your vid was 1 of 2 on RUclips that saved me a BUNCH of money and helped me fix my 2000 Grand Cherokee! I went from the black to the white connector (the newer solenoid - presumably a refined product since it's the same tranny, otherwise..). I did replace the TSR plate with the newer one (black to white), and according to the literature, the reason for doing so is that the reverse lights "may or may not work" if the plate is not switched out. I've always loved the powerband/shifting on my Jeep, and I've never thought that there was anything wrong with the tranny. I just started to get a Check Engine Light with a bit of loss of power, and then the vehicle would go back to working well and the light would go off. Now with the fix, going thru the gears is seamless! Like a sewing machine! I really liked if before, but now it's great! Thanks again for the video! I would like to add one thing that wasn't mentioned in the videos - when ya replace the new TSR plate, there is a little dowel that moves perpendicularly to the shifting mechanism. When you switch out the TSR plate, make sure that that dowel is in the long channel that runs in the same direction as the shifter. Mine had moved over a 1/4 inch and ended up in one of the triangular openings - once installed back, the tranny would only shift from park to neutral - no further. The dowel was in the traingle and NOT a few mm over in the shifting channel. Otherwise, I am SO thrilled with the fix and this vid was AWESOME!!! THANK YOU FOR MAKING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
doing this now on my 01 GC. 180,000 miles. First major repair, so I'm not too upset about it.Thanks for the vid!!
Make sure not to over torque the torch screws they break easily
Man, your car videos are very detailed like the way they should be. Thank You very much.
Great video even all these years later and the detailed description on your fix was extremely helpful. 10/10 sub
And my Jeep shifts a lot smoother now, Thanks for posting
Dude you are a LIFE SAVER!! Thank you so much for this video, you made me feel loads better and now I know how to do it!! ROCK ON BROTHA!!!
Thanks for taking the time and energy to video this process. I must admit working on an automatic transmission is kind of intimidating to me but your video made it seem less scary. ;-)
I don't know why people always say they're scared to work on these transmissions. I have no car knowledge and just went for it lol
I think you over tightened the first bolt, on the sensor plate. 35+10=45, not 40, pass 35 and put it to 5 on the line. Not sure how sensitive it may be though, 5 inch pounds is not much.
Gotta say man, I really like your videos. Great JOB!
3-4 shift. i had the issue and first i replaced the Transmission control relay which was the cheaper of the two choices that i had. I payed the $20 for the fuse and it took away most of the shifting issues, gave me back my RPMs and aloud the jeep to shift from 3rd to 4th gear. now i have slight slip issues so im now replaceing the transmission solenoid pack see if that fixes my issue
very helpful video,it helped me doing my jeep today thanks
Awesome job on the video and proper explanation in the process. THANK YOU
Thanks for an easy to follow vid for the repair. Awesome work
Video is well done. Thank you for putting it up. Good job.
Where on the transmission does it show whether its a 45RFE or 42RE I believe? Or is one transmission for a 4WD and a V-8 engine? Thank you for posting this video. It is really helping me, so far.
Hello, so would a bad solenoid cause hard shifting that I’m experiencing and also at times having difficulty engaging from second into drive as well? Thanks
Very informational video thank you. I think I'm ready to take mine now
Ya I'm definitely considering getting rid of mine as well. ....thing has been nothing but a headache since I bought it. .....never buy another one that's for sure. ....thanks again
I know this was a long time ago, but I am replacing my transmission solenoid like you did and I have a strange question. When you got the replacement solenoid, was it rebuilt/ remanufactured or was it new? I bought a remanufactured one on Amazon and I received one that claims "made in China." Now, when I opened it, it was in a ziplock bag, dripping with transmission fluid. I just thought it wouldn't be, and I suspect that it might have been a return. I just don't want to go through the hassle of putting it in to find out it is one that someone else took out of their jeep and returned it. I should have replaced it the last time I did a fluid filter change, but I was tight on money and then I started having error codes a year later, indicating the solenoid was on the way out. Anyways, it just seems odd that a remanufactured solenoid would be sent soaking wet with tranny fluid.
Backup lights went out 1st. Then no running lights. Searches are pointing to TRS for the backup lights. Will the TRS fix my running lights too? About 8 months ago it went into limp mode & shifting hard from 2nd to 3rd gear.
I replaced the sensor on the passenger side of transmission, and also the 2 sensors on the drivers side. That fixed 2nd to 3rd hard shifting. Never any other Trans problems with it.
2004 JGC 4.7 Transmission has RFE without number in front of it. 098 after the barcode thing.
One more thing, I had a starting problem the other day. It would turn over and almost start. Then it would start and run for about 5 sec. I unhooked the battery for a couple of hrs, and its starting fine at the moment. 0BDll reader with free APP says Reset trouble command MIL. Will get the paid for APP that will tell me more. P.S. I am having issues with drivers side window controls not working. Soldered black wire together. Still off and on with windows not working.
I wanted to say thank you for creating this video, I found the content excellent and your tone perfect too (aimed at the dumbass glass eye boy) - much appreciated video
Remember one thing, before you ever get under a vehicle on a hydraulic jack.
PUT A JACK STAND UNDER YOUR AXLE BEFORE YOU CRAWL UNDER THAT VEHICLE
Great advice, remember I'm no professional I'm just an average guy following online tutorials and making it visual for everyone
@@link375 looks like you put a jack under the vehicle
Jeeze...I don't want my time wasted listening to frickin safety briefs...I just want the work information. You did a great job lad.
Richard Hardin and when the jack collapses and your head or chest gets crushed and you find yourself in the hospital don’t expect people to feel bad for your dumb ass.
You do realize he is underneath a vehicle that has plenty of room even if it does fall from the jack?
great video bro it help guide me thru replacing the pack on my 00 dakota
4:21 in and I nearly flooded over my living room.
Although i swapped out my old transmission for a new one(used from salvage yard) i think this would of fixed my inability to get out of third gear...I now get all shifts but still have the p700 code....smh..
+elio guetzbusy Did you ever try hard resetting the PCM/TCM? If not, regardless of what else you do or repair, with a hard code, it will stay there until reset by a scanner, or means of hard reset. Soft codes can go away when the problem is resolved, but hard codes stay there, just like their name would suggest.
OK I see..
@@MrFredboy Is a hard reset the same as getting it flashed?
Hey good video. Transmission man told me years ago never to change the transmission fluid in your vehicle. If you do you'll get about 3 months out of that transmission then it will be bad. If you've changed it all along that's a different thing it will be okay but you don't change transmission fluid like you do oil you're asking for trouble.
After switching the solenoid pack my Jeep won’t start again. It looks like the truck lost connection due to it won’t start HELP Any ideas
Does this apply to the main transmission sensor
Thanks so much for the video. Saved me a grip 🤜🤛
Question will this fix my first gear cause I don’t have first gear anymore
Nice job thanks for sharing 👍🏻
I have a 99 grand Cherokee 4.0 online 6. Do you know what transmissions came on those
I have the 45RFE transmission in my 99 Grand cherokee, I changed the fluid and both filters the other day, afterwards when i was about to go for a test drive the chek engine light came on and the transmission slams quite roughly into revesre and drive gear, and when to take off in drive i have to go up to 2000rpm before the car slowly is floating foward, I scanned it and received faulty code P1784, Does anyone have any idea what the problem may be?
My 2001 jgc 2wd. Stoped shifting it runs all the way to 2nd gear but does not shift to 3rd. Changing this would it help or should i get the whole transmisaion. Idk if it might b overfilled would it help if i took som fluid out?? PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU GOD BLESS.
Your pan started leaking because you used a pry bar and bent your pan, you can clearly see you bent it ..DONT DO THAT... YOU LOOSEN ALL OF THE BOLTS AND LEAVE 3 ON THE END OF THE PAN SO IT CAN TILT
Hello, so are all the solenoids located inside the "plate" you removed? I have a 99 Grand Cherokee 6 cylinder 2WD that suddenly will not go into I believe first gear. The mechanic that serviced my transmission told me that the solenoid that needs replacement is on the very top of the transmission. I hope that by watching this video perhaps it will help me. I really do not want to swap transmissions as I found out it will cost me $2,700.
I have a similar problem, however mine didn't
Show any codes. It's shifts super hard into second and third most of the time but sometimes it all shifts fine like there is nothing wrong. I'm thinking this could actually be my problem. There isn't any clunking just a huge lurch. It's a 02
I have the same thing happen to my 98 cherokee 4.0 did you replace the part? and if so did it fix it?
No I have not tried it yet. I haven't has a chance. I wish I knew
Its 1 plugin sensor on the passenger side. All the searches led to it. P.S. there are 2 other sensors on the drivers side also. I replaced all 3 of them and it cured the hard shift from 2nd to 3rd.
So my sister in law came and asked me about a p0750 code that popped on her 07 jeep Laredo. All the fluids are good think I need to change the low/reverse sensor pack and while I'm at it replace filters and oil?
my Jeep won't go in reverse it acts like it's in neutral but when I put it in drive it's fine napa told me it's the reverse band but the code reader said I have a bad tcm
Jster Smithson i have exaclty the same problem the garage said me its in the gearbox. :( 2700$ . if you have more information tell me thanks
45RFE has no bands. It only has clutch plates and pistons. Could be solenoid pack, TCM, or valve body, in that order. But you can check voltage at TCM harness to the solenoid pack connector to determine if signal is getting to transmission servo pack connector.
start to finish how long did the process take?
My 97 grand cherokee sometimes get stuck 2nd going into 3rd.not always only somes times. I have to let off the accelerator then i hear a poping noise from rear differential.
Can someone please help me? I bought a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It ran ok for the first week other than it was misfiring #2 and reading a code P0505. It was also shifting hard when around 2000 rpm. Was going to replace the fuel injector when I saw that all of them were cracked down the side. I decided to replace all 6 while the fuel rail was off. I also had to pump the gas to get it to start, before and after replacing the injectors. My Brother put engine restore in the engine. Now it really runs rough, still shifts hard, and it is also shuddering, but the transmission light isn't on anymore and I don't have to pump gas to start it. It also says "zero codes". Why is it doing this?
What year was this jeep??
2004
The shop where I am going to switch the exact same part is going to charge me around $300 since I do not have the experience and tools or the space to do it myself I think I am getting a great deal. The code in my Jeep is P0700 and P0740 did the code for your transmission where the same?
Great video, very informative..
Great job. Thanks for the video.
thanks for this video. It helped a lot !
I have a 2oo1 limited can you help I am having same issue issue what parts do I need to order
So kinda off topic but what year transmissions and transfer cases can I use for my 04 4.0 part time select 4x4
Excellent. Thanks for sharing
Good video. Thanks for sharing.
Where did you get the sensor plate that you had to update because you have the black plug...thank you for the great video
it came with the solenoid
Thank you sir. again ...great video
Ever heard of a tripod, or second person to take video, so you have both hands free to work?
So was it the sensors or was it the solenoid pack??
It's like having John Malcovich help you with your car
lol, no worries I hate the sound of my voice too
No disrespect man. Malcovich is a badass. Plus your vid is super helpful.
I was thinking the same thing...like Quaaludes...but, I listen about that speed and the video, though not Cecil B DeMills, is very damn helpful. A+
hi, I have a 99 jeep grand Cherokee and it recently started not reversing would you happen to know whats the problem? thanks in advance.
4.0 trans doesn't tell you what transmission it is. Is yours the v8?
Did the input and output sensor fox it?
Is this the same torque converter
Great video very helpful
Jaki można stosować skaner do odczytania błędów ?
Right ! It is a very detailed and no BS video and I love the walkthrough it's actually very helpful but you kinda sound
Like ferris buellers teacher when he was taking attendance
And asking about voodoo economics , thank for the fix though
Worked great
My 01 wj 4.7 will not find anything over 1st in drive. 1st and 2nd work great if you manually shift the trans. you think the solenoid pack might be suspect? Im going to read the codes tonight.
Your problem sounds like mine today. Did you get it resolved? If so, what fixed it?
you are awesome man.
Will this fix the code I'm getting p0470?
What's the electric socket at the bottom left side of the screen between 9:04-9:20? I seem to have fluid leaking from this location and can't find any diagram to tell me what it is.
I believe that's the transmission governor pressure sensor. amzn.to/34oThaT
great video I have 2001 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 and it will not go pass 25mph I will check the tcm 1st and speed sensor but im not getting any trouble code any idea why?
Did you find your problem? Did you check your Catilatic converter??
did u do a quick learn after u did this
great video.. thank you
I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler TJ....It acts like its in neutral once the vehicle is warmed up.....quoted 3k to 3700 to get it fixed....would this possibly work on my trans? thx
It's possible if not it might be time to get rid of it. The 99 to 04models had a lot of issues
Great Vid! Thank you! I do have a question... Only here on RUclips do I hear about replacing the plate as well as the solenoid. I bought a new "white" solenoid to replace my "black" one, yet no one selling these knows anything about changing out the plate! And the only place I can find the plate to purchase is eBay. Is replacing the plate a "must"? THANKS!!!!
Did you end up getting plate I have same issue
Great video! I used it to replace my solenoid pack on my '01 Grand Cherokee. Unfortunately I only got about 500 miles on it when the transmission stopped working all together again. Totally stuck in the driveway. It acts like its in neutral in every gear unless it is in park, which is what it was doing before I replaced the solenoid pack. I tried to research this problem on the different forums but could only find references to "limp-in" mode. But, I'm not having that problem because I don't have a third gear or any other gear.
I think maybe something is causing the solenoid pack to go bad. Could this be the TCM? Should I go through and replace input & output sensors, pressure sensor, TCM, and the solenoid pack (again)? I'm at a loss. Any suggestions would be a huge help.
I really appreciate your videos. After I get this tranny problem worked out I plan on pulling out the dash and replacing the small speakers and the A/C evaporator coil using your video. Thanks again Link!
it the gears are not shifting at all it is either
1. bad solenoid pack (again..)
2. some electrical problem
3. bad TCM
4. transmission needs to be completely replaced
I suggest you take it to a transmission repair shop and have them diagnose it, but don't let them repair it, unless of course it's something you can't fix. this is how I figured out that I needed a new TCM. I paid them $90 to diagnose it and about $300 for a new TCM
link375 Awesome. Link, thank you so much! I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and have it towed to a transmission repair shop for a diagnosis. Although, I have a feeling it could be the solenoid pack again because I tried to save money by purchasing a "refurbished" solenoid pack. I will certainly keep you posted with what I find out.
So I went to A great transmission shop that I've used in the past. I told the owner what was going on and he told me that it sounded to him like I had lost hydraulic pressure. I asked him if I could have it towed to his shop for diagnosis and he said that if I was willing to replace the solenoid pack that I might as well check the filters that I had installed when I did the work. He said that if I didn't use Mopar parts there was a good chance that the pick-up filter possibly slipped down from the transmission.
I went home and checked it out and it ended up being the small oil filter that screws in! When I purchased the kit the fitting was separate and I had to install it into the filter prior to installing the filter into the tranny. Apparently I stripped the plastic threads and it loosened up and I lost pressure. I purchased a better quality filter from Napa and the fitting was factory attached.
Problem solved. My '01 is up and running again. Thanks again Link. And thanks to Michael at Transcraft. And, unless it's windshield wipers, I'm using Mopar parts from now on!
glad you got it all working! yep I've learned my lesson as well using other parts with my WJ as well, Mopar is the only thing that this jeep likes
I'm not sure what you look like but I am picturing a young Allen Rickman.
I have an issue. I just recently purchased a 4x4 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The check engine light is one and It is stuck on 4 WD. Cant take it off it. As you drive, it makes sounds. Also, sometimes, when I start the car, the reverse gear doesnt kick in but D does. In addition, while pressing on the breaks, It stutters and jolts in the direction I changed the gear to go. This is all while I start the car, it doesnt do it all the time. I took it to auto zone and a code read that it needed transmission solenoid D replaced. Does this seem like the source of the problem or is it much greater?
The sound seems to be comig from the drive shaft
What problems and what code did you have? What was the transmission doing that you needed to change this out??
info in the description
What about the P2706
Im getting code P1899 and have no reverse lights and often get a no crank issue, this will solve my issue I believe????
No reverse lights could be the sensor that tells the ecu its in R... The no start could be a Crank position sensor ... Trans sensors will not prevent the engine from starting ...
Great help you safe me alots of money thanks...
i got a 04 overland and keep gettin the code 0740 tcc opened , my mechanic told me change transmission solenoid and trans fluid , filter and so far still getting the same code , any suggestion would be aprecciated.
Did you ever fix the problem?
Where did you buy the solenoid from?
Good thorough video brom
*bro
Ok I know this vids really old but I have a problem with my trans right now. Started with not shifting out of what seams like 3rd great. Code came up with the p0900 code plug a better scanner in showed p0950 “reverses solenoid circuitry low” or something like that. I replaced the solenoid pack like in the video.. but still won’t shift out of 3rd!? Could anyone give me a hand with what to check out before I go grab a junkyard trans? Thanks in advance!!!
You might have a bad TCM (transmission control module). That's what ended up fixing mine. You might be able to find a site that can sell you a remanufactured unit that's flashed for your vehicles VIN and mileage online somewhere or you can also get one at the dealer
link375 hey so I purchased one used online. Does it need to be flashed to my vin number or could I use one that’s plug and play. Thanks again for helping me out
It needs to be flashed. Take it to the dealer and have them do it
link375 hey link! Thanks for your response so fast! But do I need to take the truck itself to the dealer or could I just go and take the physical tcm to the dealer with the vin information?
Hi. I have code P1792 in my 99 Jeep. This is transmission code but i dont know what is wrong.
I have a 2003 jeep grand Cherokee .... when its cold outside its cuts off on my first complete stop and the RPM drops and makes the car idle low when i put my foot on the gas pedal. ... this only occurs once a day in the morning when its cold outside .... cant figure it out ....
check this out: ruclips.net/video/cPfFqTtV9b0/видео.html
I'm not sure if this is the same issue you're having
Curtis Bradley If your RPMs drop when you hit the brakes you probably have a leak in your brake booster or master cylinder.
Ok thanks will check that out
pls i hard 02 jeep Grand CHER 4.7 rear wheel when i shift to reverse i will hard a loud noise, and drive too pls wht could be the problem thanks
Check your fluid. If that doesn't fix it you might have to do what I did in this video
Check the universals in the driveshaft and the upper control arm ball joint above the rear axle. U joints can be checked by hand trans in neutral wheels chalked and e brake on try to twist the shaft and check for slop. The upper control arm on the top middle of the axle is a bit harder to check but generally need done at 170-200k miles. If you can attach a camera underneath you could verify the slop in the upper control arm on the rear axle. Also inspect all bushing in al the link arms and such while you are under there.
I have a 04 all time 4 wheel drive and evidently my jeep is stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear. Is it safe to drive it to get the codes scanned?
I drove mine around for about a week back and forth between home and work. your max speed should be about 35 mph. don't push it too hard or you may cause permanent damage to the transmission
ok. thanks
Do u know why I would be leaking transmission fluid from the trans and engine?
Take a white paper towel and put that on your oil drip and if it's red it transmission fluid, or yellow or black it's engine oil. If transmission fluid your front seal around the torque converter is leaking or engine oil it's your rear engine seal leaking or both
Great job!!..
Any one kept the same plate? I don’t see much difference
I got p0700 on my 2005 wrangler it won't go over 30 n rpm run high...
Your transmission is in Limp-in mode. Start off by checking your transmission fluid color and levels. If it's dark it's burned and it needs to be replaced.
After replacing the TCM did you have to reprogram it?
The vendor programmed it for me. They asked for the transmission type and the mileage on the odometer
quick question.....when you bought your TCM from that link you posted did it come ready to go? or did u have to get it flashed or whatever? thanks man good video
+Chuck Hollenbach I gave them my VIN and mileage and they flashed it before they shipped it out. The old one needed to be returned so they could refurb it and resell it.
Thanks for the info...I'm having the limp mode issue and already changed the sensors and dropped the pan but everything seems alright. ..I'm hoping the TCM will fix my problem
+Chuck Hollenbach I hope so. I ended up selling the Jeep after these issues as it never shifted the same even after doing all the work I did to it. Hopefully yours is fine, good luck!
will this help with 3rd gear from shifting late
+dave rig it should. Unless you have other transmission issues like the TCM
when I make fast hard right turns it slips out of gear then kicks back in gear after the turn
Can u clean one
Great Video....
Plz help. Has anyone had this problem???
I don't see a follow up video, so what happened??
Lol... I was thinking the same thing.
did it fix the problem
Torque converter clutch
