Thanks for this video Peter. Done this today on my E90,& I think you have helped me solve a rough run,bad idle issue which has been happening for months. A few different mechanics couldn't fix or diagnose it properly, but car is running much better already. Much appreciated!!
Wonderful and so simple, without over complicating it with the torque requirements when tightening those fastener bolts back. Just the way I like to do things. Thank you. You have a new subscriber. :)
Wish I had this much access on my 325i... I had to do half the bolts via Jedi mind-powers! Since I had to yank my ICV out on my way to the TB, I cleaned out my ICV as well. I was told that manipulating the butterfly on these fly-by-wire throttles was a bad idea, so I just sprayed a ton of carb cleaner in and let it air-dry (There are no torque settings for the TB bolts, by the way - I was able to remove mine with a screwdriver, so I just re-tightened them with the same tool. Any time there is a gasket in play, "too tight" is a thing.)
Yes, as they are electronic and not spring/cable activated, you are correct, it is best not to move/manipulate them. Just spray, clean around, wipe around but do not move.
I don't trust any BMW mechanic unless they have a Russian accent.....in my mind it's 1944 and it's Tank he's working on. But seriously, great video man
The idiot just broke the gears inside the throttle body. Look at the butterfly flap - it should close all the way. As he was pushing the flap he broke the alignment and probably gearing system inside.
Yea I watched the complete video just to see if it will start. 13min just to show you how to use a 10mm socket on 4 bolts. Ok now what about the plastic cams inside as he forces the butterfly open. That thing is done
nothing wrong with manually opening the flap, it is spring return, and no, the flap does not close all the way normally. I have done this to fix throttle errors on n42 engine, for now seems to work
Hello Peter, I have an E92 N53 enigine year2007 and i was wondering if you have to adjust some settings in the ECU after cleaning the throttle body? Or can you clean without moving the inside of the throttlehouse and just reinstall?
@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor I have another question Peter, is it a problem if I take the battery loose? I also have to replace a low pressure fuel sensor and I’m afraid when I leave the battery attached, I can get a fire or something! Or a fuel spill if someone opens the door of the car by accident! Thanks!
great video Peter, quick question my e46 getting codes 1632 and 1634, thinking in first trying to just clean it without uninstalling it with a Throttle body cleaner. Do you think if done properly will solve the issue of car dying while idle? I am going to try to remove it but it seems difficult to get to it. Appreciate, great content
Good afternoon friend Peter Finn. The malfunction of the trottle body makes the engine go bad in the morning, in other words, my BMW 320D E90 163 HP costs to start in the morning and I have already changed the spark plugs, battery and the pre-heating module and continues to catch bad in the morning. Best regards Joao Araujo
Thanks for the Vid ;) great stuff. i have a question, I have a rough idle when engine is hot, can it also be the starter? or should I only clean the throttle body ? thanks
Hi there Peter. That engine looks like the one on 318i. I own a 318i and I am encoutering some issues, maybe you can help with an advice. First one is regarding brake assist. In that way that when I press first time on pedal to brake, it's soft as usually, but if I keep the foot on pedal, like you would do at a stop light, or press a couple of times on pedal, it gets hard. When it gets hard, I have no brake unless I press very hard on pedal. The second issue is regarding the engine sound, idle or when going I have the feeling it's somehow noisy and sometimes unresponsive. The engine does not smoke, it runs round no iddle hesitations or hiccups. I replaced the vacuum pump on the engine, before I bought the car somebody installed the pump with silicone instead of using new gaskets, so I put another pump an new OEM gaskets. At the vacuum hose going to brake booster I get good vacuum, almost hurts if you put the finger there.
Pete good night i have a BMW 3 Series give mi some problem and when ever i start not getting anything from pedal these are the codes: 2CF9 2CFA 2DO9 2DID
by far, the best BM-double-V Throttle Body video in RUclips.

Ok and Thanks ! 👍👌
Hey Lacey. I got an E90 as well. Did you have an issue with pick up speed before doing the cleaning?
There's just something about that Russian accent that makes it so easy to understand every detail of what he's saying. Good job Peter
Silence your fingers with your D.Trump ass.
Clearly not Russian, but ok.
That is a finnish accent, i recognize it very clearly because im a finn too. In finland we call it ”rally english”
Yakadee
russian??!!!!....you re no doubt from USA xD
Best info on how to clean your throttle body

Made the job look easy, especially with those massive gardening gloves on.

Excellent work Peter! The throttle body was like new after the cleaning!
Yes
Is it ok to move the flap? I messed up my throttle or maybe I used the wrong spary?
@@donkeyunknown11 what do you mean you messed up your throttle body?

I agree. In this situation, what can we do to get it back ?

The video didn't show how to get to the throttle. What item to remove before we can see the throttle
Lol thé air intake

Good work !
What position should it be in when you take it off the car? Mine is open but will close when pushed in.

thanks a lot..
When we turn the valve manually by hand, is adaptation required afterwards?
No need

Yes you can!
Why would a starter have anything to do with a rough idle once warm. It is OFF.
