Alright so a few videos ago you were talking about The Fall terrain sets and mentioned a resin that was used for printing them. What was it? The results look good and I want to look up that resin but I can't find the video in question.
Mantic have made a gem with this game. With the PVC, which you clearly don’t like, it’s worth knowing that Mantic wanted people to be playing the game within 10-15mins of opening the box. It works. Very excited for the future if this game and I believe there’s hard plastic down the line
Can definitely confirm that a PVA "foundation" makes crackle paints crack much larger. Supposedly the same also happens with gloss varnish. I think it's not just about the moisture, since it also works that way on plain plastic bases. It seems more like the smoothness of the surface makes it easier for the crackle paint to slide and move around as it contracts, leading to larger cracks. In fact if you're using a fairly thick layer of glue/varnish, the cracks will be wide enough to let the surface underneath shine through. Very useful if you want to have e.g. lava flow peek through the cracks.
Fun fact this is like the third time Halo has tried to get into tabletop. The first was a small tabletop game from the early 2000s Then there was fleet battles and ground command Now theres this which is pretty cool. The fleet battles and ground command community has made a ton of cool Banished, Flood and iirc theres someone currently working on some prometheans

Halo Flashpoint is a very good skirmish wargame. This week-end, i ran 175 demos in 2 days in Geek Life Festival. Community was here ! 😊 And i love too this Elite !

For crackle medium. What i do is a layer of UV resin, colored how you like, then the crackle paste. A light amount will give you small fine cracking, medium amount medium cracking and so on. I also use crackle paste from High Miniatures. They also make a great basalt if you are doing volcanic terrain. Love the videos, keep em coming!!!
Really glad to see you picked up Halo Flashpoint Jay! I've been trying it out and loving the game with friends, it's been a good change from Kill Team. I wasn't brave enough to re base the models because I was worried about it messing with gameplay since the base sizes and model visibility are important in the game.

Halo Flashpoint is a great game, I've been playing it since launch and it is so fun. I only have the Recon edition but I can't wait for the Banished to get more fireteams released later this year!
Halo 2 is one of my favorite things ever. While I'm normally locked on to 40k I have absolutely no issues with the occasional Halo model. Keep them coming. I too would like to see some grunts and jackals. A hunter would be awesome.
trick with Crackle texture pastes is that you NEED it to dry downwards, instead of upwards. I know it sounds silly. But try use crackling textures on the paper or cardboard, something that will gradually absorb humidity. Thank me later. Also you can pretty much prepare your crackled earth in advance on A4 sheet of paper and just cut out segments you like.

I've been playing Flash Point now for several months (since release) and it is the most fun I've had with a skirmish game in a long time. Mantic have huge plans for it and I've seen it really take off in popularity.
I live AK interactive, I have the Wet and Dry crackle medium, they normally recommend gloss varnish but I want to try the glue option next time. I would love a video with a comparison between artist grade crackle paste medium and other major makers of other crackle effects,
I agree with Jay here; Phantom Menace is a movie that is fun to just digest. Luca's had a interesting idea of basically making the culture of that setting Renaince Europe, which is kind of themed in the senate and just how people behave in that setting, at least in the upper crusts of society. Luca's did have a interesting world that was colourful and vibrant. Edit: I love the video though! Made me feel nostalgic to my teenage years. Halo was my jam.
I love the Vallejo Mecha matte varnish. I use it on all my miniatures. I like the super matte finish, even over metallics. I also find the varnish to be virtually bulletproof.
💯 with Jay - as soon as they demoed elites, I knew I was in. Spartans have been fun and they take to slapchop super well but gimme gimme gimme those beautiful aliens and I’ll be a fan for years (jackals - no idea why but I’d buy a set that is all jackals. Did it for halo ground command, would gladly do it again for flashpoint). Oh and the gameplay is super fun too. There are few things more satisfying then getting killed by a lucky shot and then respawning next turn to exact your revenge. Stupid fun, highly recommend it to any halo/skirmish/mini gamers fans
The base size is used to calculate LOS. You draw an imaginary cilinder from base to the top of the mini to see if it's visible or not. Changing base size means changing visibility. (Minor nitpick)
I have found that the crackle paint depends on how thick a layer you apply. A thicker heavy layer of the paint will result in fewer larger cracks, a thin layer will give you lots of tiny cracks.
To take plastic minis off attached bases, put the base lip in a vice and use a chisel tip blade in an exacto knife. line it up on the base of the foot flat side down on the base top, and wack it with a hammer. Should cut straight through and flat.
Your explanation about the cracks is partially correct. Another factor contributed to the cracks size, the smoothness of the surface. PVA glue crates a very smooth surface so the crackle paint can slide more easily while it shrinks and create wider cracks, while on an coarse surface it is the opposite.
I really like how you edge highlight this mini but blend it so it doesn't just look like you slapped down some lines at the very end like 90% of minis do. Could you make another vid with a general tutorial?

The terain pack is really cool but in going tonpoint out 100lbs round is small. For context a 16 inch round from an iowa battel ship weighed between 1900 and 2700 lb.

The miniatures are well done, pity that are bigger than others. Furthermore, on Etsy there are a LOT of )unofficial) 3D prints that could be printed in various scales.
I'm hoping to pick this game up at some point, but yeah I would really like it expanded beyond the generic PVP game of Halo. It does look really fun though.
