Something messed up during my render...The stream\episodes are not that clunky of movement. Regardless, It does not take away from the emotion of the scene itself.
They did all the animation, sounds, music, production both pre and post, etc...
All Credit goes to them, I just pulled one of the most captivating scenes.

The red thirst, /the black rage thats a curse to the blood angels. His worried his going to fall to it. And he was sent to the death watch that has other chapter marines in it as he was struggling with the thirst.
@@liam1666 the thirst and black rage are different. The thirst is just a vampire like curse where the blood angels desire drinking blood. Its something even their primarch struggled with.
However the black rage is new. Post sanginous' death the gene seed was corrupted by the psychic backlash. Slowly all blood angels will start losing their minds, it makes them feel as though they were there. On terra, watching the death of sanginious with their own eyes. Seeing everything as horus. It drives them mad with rage and so they're sent to the blackwatch to die in battle. If they managed to survive after a certain period they're ritually executed. Typically anyway.
@@whitetiger5284 there is information that suggests the black rage existed before Sanginous, but after he was found and united with his chapter he pacified it, after his death it returned. don't remember specifically were I read/heard it but before Sanginous they were ruthless enough to make World Eaters go "chill brother"
@@archonfett Thats a new one to me, neat though. So that would mean it was modified by his death.
@@whitetiger5284 I think sanginous was having a meeting with horus and a commander come in and said they had a problem, another one had fallen so sanginous went and dispatched his son but horus either followed and witnessed what happened or he asked and sanginous told him, I have heard that story also
That "at last!" at the end made me laugh, that space marine is so sick of the drama and just wants to crack some genestealer skulls
He was like "oh my emperor please save me from this awkward situation".
The timing was too good to not be intentional
That shit had me dying lol
Tyro was one of my favorites he was the comic relief of the squad along with hadrael being to mechanical to give a shit 😂
Warhammer fans can't handle more than a couple minutes of storytelling at a time without violence. so we've chained down Genestealers at key points around the Hulk to avoid nerd rage. ~sergeant gideon
"Oh, AT LAST!"
Tiro is the most "bout that life" dude in the entire series.
Tiro is a fun character. I love the belligerent brute types.
That is probably why he is one of the 4% 😂
“LETS FUCKING GO! MOVE, OUTTA MY WAY!”
an immutable truth about combat....machine gunners are the angriest men on patrol and the happiest men in a firefight.....
He reminds me of Hevy from Clone Wars. RIP that man, he was a real one.
"BUT NOT ALONE!" i love the emotion in it its absolute perfection
For me the best representations of space marines are when they are at their most human. When they reveal that despite years/decades/centuries of warfare and loss, isolation from greater humanity and being conditioned to be killing machines that they still have hopes, dreams, fears and regrets is heartwarming and oddly inspirational.
An eight foot tall killing machine hacking their way through aliens is cool, an eight foot tall killing machine hacking their way through aliens while secretly being terrified that they’ll die alone and despondent, too much of a beast to be accepted by the ones they call brother is fantastic.
@@hoyinnyI totally agree 👍
@@hoyinnydamn that second paragraph is powerful.

It's just like in the real military the one carrying the machine gun is the angriest on patrol but the happiest in a firefight.

honestly one of my favorite things in 40K is space marines coming to terms with the fact that they do, in fact, still feel fear. And when they feel afraid, they have too few tools to deal with it.
Heretic. They Shall Know No Fear.
@@pauldraper1736
Youre right. They dont know it. Thats why they can fail when they encounter it.
The wisest of the Astrates know that the humble guardsman is braver than any Space Marine. They know and feel fear but still fight.
They don't quite feel fear, though they can still feel emotions similar or related to it. Such as dread, horror, despair, but not actual fear. Though some can recognise when they should be feeling fear.
There is an existential dread in a perfect being meeting a corrupted and broken reality. Something that is not fear, but could be worse.
@@cindermoth3421 dread, horror, despair, huh, what are those emotions all synonyms for? I get your point, though
Damn even the Chaplain is quiet. That's how you know it's serious
Which is funny because it's the Chaplain's job to put the marine at ease when they get like that.
"BUT NOT ALONE!"- Hurts me every time i hear it.
Gets me right in the "feels" too.
If you're ever in war and once the "heat" is over and the silence comes it's louder than any bomb or machine gun near your ear.
You absolutely breakdown and wonder what in humanity allows people to do this to each other. Never in front of your brothers because you are stronger being with them but when alone... it's terrifying.
You dont even need to know the full lore of the Blood Angels to "feel" this scene, knowing the lore only amplifies how powerful this scene is. To say im impressed is a huge understatement.
Damn, the writing on this is honestly awesome
Amen to that brother.
But the lip syncing is awfull
Was written by Richard Boylan, the same guy who did Helsreach - though he used the audio book for the audio (Jonthan Keeble voiced the entire audiobook).
@@FerreusVirwhat's the book called? And where can I find it?
@@rageofsaturn I don't think there's a book that corresponds with this show, though the one I was referencing was Helsreach, can probably find it on Amazon or Black Library. Also, if you'd like to watch the animated Helsreach, just search RUclips for it or Richard Boylan.
Can’t lie, I wasn’t expecting that one space marine at the end to break the mood with the “At-last” had me rolling dead laughing! I was like “Now that’s the 40k I’m use to!” Blood ViA Brotherhood”

When he took off his helmet I was like "Ah shit, here we go!".

I love Tiro so much lol. I'm so happy he made it to the end
I may have something for you in a "few" days regarding Tiro.....just say'in....🤔
One thing I love about this is that it shows that they're not entirely emotionless robots... truly makes me think there is so much potential for a fully fledged Warhammer 40K/30K movie franchise or TV series. Even if it's just with high quality animations.
Well,at least the Blood Angels arent, some of them are
who knows, maybe Hanry Cavill will make one some day
Rejoice! For Henry Cavill's WH40k show has been greenlit! We may get what you ask for!
Kazarian expresses a deep depression of the heart. He loves his brothers and doesn't want to disappoint them, so he does the honours of joining the deathwatch. But that took away from him what stabilised him the most. Brotherhood. And he closes himself off, because he knows that he isn't what he once was and is afraid that his brothers might notice. Man.
good analysis, and I agree. He is hurt bad.
This was top tier Warhammer40k story telling.
YOU WERE HARVESTING GENESEED FROM YOUR LITTLE BATTLE BROTHER!
YOU WERE REVVING THE SHAFT OF YOUR CHAINBLADE
YOU WERE SHOOTING THICK WHITE FLAME FROM YOUR SKIN FLAMER!!!!!
YOU WERE UNLOADING YOU'RE BOLTER IN THE NAME OF OUR FATHER
YOU WERE LAUNCHING YOUR WHITE DROP POD FROM YOUR STRIKE CRUISER
YOU WERE SPARKING FROM YOUR POWER SWORD!
Tiro: “Finally, something to purge”
That right there is a a true devastator.
This is why I love 40k the dialogue is almost theatre like its perfect
He needed his brothers, and in that darkness he felt abandoned as they honored him and sent him off, to live up to that honor must be some weight, as inhuman as Astartes may be they can never be more than us
People acting surprised at an Astartes warrior struggling with internal emotional turmoil clearly don't know much about them. Look at the Universe they live in, look at the horrors they face every single day of their bleak and violent lives, what they have to live with, and that's even more so for a chapter like the Blood Angels who have the curse of the black rage to deal with. The've been taken from childhood, forged into living weapons, the ultimate defense against humanity, yet forever apart from it. The bond of brotherhood is really the only comfort most astartes really have. Now imagine even being denied that in a universe like 40k. If Astartes are emotionless monoliths like everyone's making them out to be, half of them wouldn't have fallen to chaos during the Horus Heresy.
Damn I didn’t think Space Marines got all angsty.
I thought they were super soldiers, seems abit odd how one of the space marines is upset over his brother leaving for a little bit... seems abit dramatic.
@@lolminer86 it's more the horrors he saw in the ordo xenos changed him, imagine being sent to deal with a genestealer cult with a single squad, or having to assassinate a Warboss on your own because some inquisitor doesn't understand even the angels of death have their limits, there's a reason deathwatch members succumb to their geneseed a lot quicker as well, he was fighting to keep the red rage in alone

"BUT NOT ALONE!". I found this character to be a little too needy, almost childish at first. It wasn't until watching it over a few times did I come to see the story from his side. Just look at the feels...
Where is the rest of this? Do u have a link for what comes next?
@@halserri Link in the description. 😀
It is easy to forget that they are children when their mortal mental development stops, then comes endless trauma, rage, indoctrination, deep/artificially-induced brotherhood, and horrors.
He was a little needy. Mainly because the red thirst and black rage was starting to hit him just prior to leaving for the deathwatch. There in the deathwatch he felt alone and isolated because he was around marines from other chapters who would not be able to grasp his situation. The isolation he felt during the time in the deathwatch left him emotionally scarred.
@@chrisroberts7000 Childish at heart is how I'd describe the Astartes, both Loyalist and Chaos.
Holding grudges for thousands of years, blind love for their kindred, a simple but constant need for aknowledgement, not to mention how Primach debates amount to "my dad could beat your dad" both in and out of universe.
Space Marine at the end was like 'thank god, lets pew pew pew!' 😂😂
A true devastator marine is always trigger happy
This may mean i listen to too many audiobooks, but i can tell that ALL of the good GW narrators voice the different characters.
1:33
I cannot not laugh at this 🤣
It is either "enough of this mushy shit, this emotions thing, finally i can shoot something!", or "oh my God, they are having emotions! I don't know, what to do...!(screech in the distance) O Jesus Christ, thank you! There is a problem i know how to solve- by blowing a fucking hole in it!"
I love how they all know it’s serious when one of them takes off his helmet to have a argument face to face with another marine
this show made me fall in love with blood angels even more.
I like how loose they are. Allot of the time they seem too stiff when in fact you would think they would be and should be more expressive in their movements. Really enjoyed that just by itself honestly.
Its accurate to the lore, too. The black carapace which connects the marines movements to their armor is directly linked to their nervous system, so every minor movement, shift, and shudder should be reflected in the movements of their armor. The death of hope trailers did a good job at this fluid movement as well.
Space marines are coolest when their veneer of superiority shatters and the horrible reality that they’re still just human peaks through. All those surgeries. All that training. All that armor. Still the same scared little children who were conscripted in adolescence.
You bring up a good point. Nothing in their training suggests to me they have any practical ways of "dealing" with life out side of "there is only war". Perhaps that is why the bonds of brotherhood run so deep in most Astartes chapters?
If you are a Warhammer fan this is a must. Very well done. Worth the price of subscription.

Powerful that line was. I think how it transitions to the next phase and it's ultimate conclusion makes it so very poignant.
Ankaeus doesn’t understand.
If you come back from the DW, you don’t come back the same. You have seen and killed things you cannot remember. The DW mind rape and wipe their members constantly after missions. The mere fact Kazarian even remembers himself is a miracle.
@@williammiller4768 for real? They wipe their memories? How does he still have knowledge about xeno’s etc
It’s selective wiping. Missions and objectives. The Watch brothers are forcibly molded into a working team in a very short amount of time. Some get so bent out of shape they never leave the Watch. They become unable to live their old life the way they used to. Kazarian is a perfect example of this. Aloof and detached. Once you serve, a part of you never leaves the Watch. The Watch stays with you. What it made you learn about yourself will never go away.
digging the saboteur-ish palette of just red and darkness
Its important to note that in the next scenes Ancaeus is notably softer and more caring towards Kazarion now that Kazarion's finally let loose his true feelings and fears, explaining why he's so noticeably distant after coming back from the Deathwatch. This really shows the brotherhood between the astartes.
Yes, that was one of the scenes that helped me see things from kazarions side. This show has a deep nuance if you are able to see it. Great comment.
i saw this and was like, wait, did someone make a really nice internet shorts like astartes.... my eyes have been opened, and ive now started to watch this and all the other ones on the site, the youtube algorithm has come through once again, only another 10k videos to go through before another gem shines through
Welcome to 40k brother.
Even though marines are modified alot they still have hate and love for each other
I felt like the animation lacked a little weight, and the mechanical sounds of them walking just seemed a bit off. But damn, the dialogue and the delivery really made me forget all that. Well played.
I'm pretty new to the 40K universe and damn! I didn't expect this much emotions from marines. Got me good
I've heard Johnathan keeble's space marine voice so much that I just immediately recognize him the moment he starts talking.
U know theyve been alive for quite a while.
Weird thing, but i like that I can recognize some of the audiobook narrator voices that GW uses in most of its audiobooks here. Specifically, John French and Toby Longworth. Love both of their performances for warhammer.
Get you a battle brother like Tiro
I think about the clones from star wars in this instance, that they all bear the same curse of their gifts but not alone and that they stand together.
It is one thing that always gets forgotten. Space marines have low deep voices. They shouldn't sound like a normal person.
Sounds like someone needs some pineapple on their pizza!
I don't think I've ever seen Astartes standing in awkward silence like that before
Jonathan Keeble VA got me confused for a second because of Helsreach and Grimaldus. Also why isn't that Chaplain stepping in to end the argument that's going on in the middle of a potential battle site.
God damn it, i mistaken them as the Death Company .
I can t see space marines having a chit chat on a mission like this
While I'm no expert, one example of this can be taken from Richard Boylan animated rendition of Helsreach. At this point I consider it lore. 🤓
Make seasons of episodes of this stuff. I would watch it all day every day.
Loving the heavily dubbed voice-over. Reminds me of watching b-movie kung-fu films as a kid, where the fun game was to turn off the volume and try to work out what they were saying based on how angry the looked. 😂
I bond with Tiro on a spiritual level. If its not for his quick readiness its def because he's ready to use that heavy bolter.
This short really shows just how much Space Marines value loyalty and brotherhood above all else.
He isn’t even upset that he is suffering from the Rage, as much as he is over his Chapter essentially abandoning him.
I don't think Kazarion thinks he was abandoned but had to do something alone and paid the price.
This was surprisingly well acted.
I hope the quality keeps up since the whole Warhammer+ thing just seems like a money grab.
They coulda made a deal with Netflix or something.
It depends on what you're gonna use it for. If you paint / play the game, you get a super cool mini for free that easily would have cost you what a year of WH+ would. You also get all past codices and rules errata, plus scans of every White Dwarf issue. So.....yeah, if you're only in it for the animation I would maybe wait til there's more content. Otherwise, might be worth it.
I agree they should license this to other streaming services to broaden the audience and get people interested in Warhammer.
Hopefully the show by Henry Cavill will do the trick.
A space marine confessing he has felt fear makes me feel bleak
Does it not take courage to admit fear?
@@Ride420Dirty yes especially in front of all his brothers but it just goes to show how powerful and all consuming the black rage is. To make a space marine feel fear again is incredible

For the Emperor and Sanguinius!
The silence when kazarius took off his helmet
does anyone recognize the Chaplains Voice? it sounds so familiar, like he already spoke a space marine somewhere
He was the narrator for Devastation of Baal, Gareth Armstrong.
The sons of Sanguinius, pure of heart, but full of rage and a thirst for blood.
I like talking about my feelings too.
Ohhh at last sound like my dad listening to my problems in school
He is still wearing the shoulder pattern of the Deathwatch!
The Astartes are truly privileged to speak doubtfully like this to each other, especially with their chaplain present.
Imagine a random guardsman stating anything not entirely devoted to the Emperor or his squad. He'd eat a glove the size of his chest faster than he can blink.
Difference in ease of replacement. Marines are expensive and thus harder to replace. Thus more leeway.
Guardsmen... not so much :D
Even though it always says "And they shall know no fear" i'm pretty sure Fear is a vital part of survival.
Soldiers without fear would only get themselves killed, and you don't want that for the emperors finest
The phrase "And they shall know no fear" I think, is meant to convey a mindset of courage and determination in the face of danger, not the absence of fear altogether. The idea is that these soldiers are trained to confront and overcome their fears, rather than being paralyzed by them. In other words, they may still feel fear, but they do not allow it to control them or their actions. It's a mindset that is essential for success in high-pressure situations, such as those faced by soldiers in battle. I do however agree with you entirely.
@@Ride420Dirty Fully agree
i mean part of the point of the setting is the flawed nature of the imperium.
and part of the core of the space marines "story" is their trying to cling to a humanity that was ripped away from them. yes they can feel fear, but...almost never. essentially the only things that can inspire it are supernatural/forced states of fear, and yes it is a flaw.
Well this company has 96% of it's Space Marines dead at the end of the series. They are getting themselves killed, they are canon fodder after all, like ALL soldiers.

To add to all the lore related comments:
This is one of the very few examples shown of a battle brother surviving their tour within the Deathwatch and returning to their Chapter, and retaining the pauldron to show for it. I only ever see one example of it in 40k codex lore. One of the reasons i used that for one if my models.

I lack the context to decide if the writing/acting/situation is good. Astartes primed for something more like demigods.

I wish the blood angels would just give in to the thirst and go full vampire.
I can say that sanguinius always was for his sons whenever they feel the thirst if not him the battle brothers where they for him because they feel that same thirst,he was alone no brother of the angel was with him to make him feel peace of mind and soul, brother why did you die why..

You are the first person to point this out!
I know what you're saying, but it's not fear per se, as much as worrying about future things that may transpire. Also, I would like to add, "They shall know no fear." I think this applies to a situation where your life may end and still persevere in the face of that fear. This situation is more of self-doubt and uncertainty in the case of the black rage.
Either way, well spotted.
I’m glad they show some actual fear. Maybe not fear of death or the enemy (as I believe the statement was intended) but fear of loss of their loved ones and even themselves. I like this touch of humanity.
