  • Hummingbirds are fascinating! I was able to catch an image of a hummingbird as it struggled with a cobweb on its beak. Amazing how hummingbirds can maneuver and still manage.

You have a really nice yard. Cob webs on their beaks is a good sign. They use them to solidify their nests. It means you might have a nest close by. Those little yellow pieces also open up to clean even further inside. Great shots of the birds. Loved this video.

Found out you can put Vaseline (petroleum jelly) around the Shepard's hook to prevent ants from crawling up. I put it several feet up and it worked like a charm.

Check out Robbie and Gary gardening easy on RUclips. They have hundreds of hummingbirds that they feed. If the birds are unable to use the perch because of where it's positioned Robbie will modify it or even make her own perches with wire. Flapping their wings and flying while feeding burns up a lot of energy. I really liked your video and camera work but I personally would not use that type of feeder because of the apparent perch problem.

Don't be too concerned about the web on the Hummer's beak. They will use their beak to tear down spiderwebs when the babies start to fledge. They will also steal a spider's web to put on their nests.
The adults will chirp, beep, whirr ~ that is not the same as the sound they make with their wings, and the babies make a sound that is kind of a click with a beeping trill to it. My mother and I always thought that sound was a parent call. We only heard it when a baby was distressed and it ALWAYS brought Adults! For babies, the big wasps were a threat but the adults drove them off.
We loved watching the adults fight for feeding rights and in the midst of all that chaos, the babies would show up. All the adults would perch nearby and wait. It did not matter whose babies were there, all the adults waited. When the babies were done, the adults resumed their rambunctious behavior! Too Funny for Words!!
    Here's a joke for you.
If you buy a $50 Hummingbird Feeder do you get a better class of Hummingbirds?
Nay, All Hummingbirds are High Class!
I have my fresh feeders waiting for first light when I will put them up.

Most of the videos the wife does. She sometimes talks too much and he's a man of very few words. They each have their own garden which are as different as can be. It's really funny. He is extremely methodical and she's kind of a hot mess and has come up with some great ideas of her own.

@@chrisnotap They are usually pretty low to the ground my cedar hedge is 10 feet tall at the highest, and they seem to have their nests at around head level, their nests though are really hard to find, they build them deep in a bush or tree and they are barely the size of your fingertip. You have at least 2 of them which means likely a nest, put out more feeders and they will come use honey in place of sugar white sugar is processed too much and raw honey has nutrients similar to the nectar they get from the flowers. Also plant red flowers.

But I'm actually not sure, if it's a good idea to feed wild animals with the same pure sugar that makes us fat and sick...
I guess on a regular basis that's as unhealthy for the bird, as it is for us.
In nature, the nectar they consume is way more diverse and contains all sorts of nutrients like vitamins, proteins, etc...
