Thanks for triggering my OCD, I now must go and remove that clutch/ oil pump cover and clean my baby, but unlike you, I WILL clean the dirt from behind the plastic chain guide near the chain catcher before reinstalling the guide. 😂 Top job Erica, clear, concise and informative video as always.
I have three Stihl saws, the largest is a O29 Super Farm Boss. I keep them clean. One of the three are very old, and today they appear to have never been used. They get pressure washed after each use. I don't spray near the carb. Remember, if water can enter the oil and fuel tanks, oil and fuel can leak from them from within. Also, I never let any other person use any of my saws. My father always told me, "If you don't care and clean anything you own." no one else will'.
I'm a novice chainsaw repair guy. Hobby mostly. I watch you for Stihl, "The Greasy Shop Rag" for Husqvarna and "Leon's Chainsaw Parts and Repair" for Homlite. Thanks for your informative videos, you've helped me a lot over the past year or so.
My weekend is made better when you post videos. Thanks for another chainsaw adventure. I’m glad this saw wasn’t another post-mortem examination. Chainsaw funerals are heartbreaking. 😀
I have an O44 that just lost a spring. It was my dad's and it has sentimental value. This video will help me fix it. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
We don;'t run our saws often but when we do we run them hard. I "try" to do a spa day at least once a year, with a thorough break down and cleaning with each saw. Great no nonsense video with a ton of info.
I must admit, although I like the saws to be clean, all too often they are put away to cool an the day/task is done. And less cleaning occurs than was intended. I do need to consider compressed air, however it a tight basement walk path, trying to keep the debris contained is a challenge. Thank you for the video, Ericka.
Thank you for posting this excellent video. I want to thank you for doing such a great job for your Roads team. This benefits everyone in your region. I hope the customer wants you to replace that top cover too.
Just Did The Same Exact Job Yesterday on The Very Same Model Saw Farm Boss The Clutch Drum Was Worn Out Chain Brake Stuck and Oiler Shredded and Cut By The Clutch Drum From the Needle Cage Bearing Spitting Out its Needles and Packed Full of Shmutz Like It Was Dug Up out of Your Saw Graveyard and Brought in For Repair 😩😭😭😭😭 But I Was Surprised It Ran Like a Timbersports Saw All is Back Together Again With Fresh Parts and Despite its Appearance Is a Great Runner and Cutting Saw It Just Needed Some Love ❤❤❤😇😇😇😀 And Resurrection A Splash of Holy Water and She’s Back on The Job 😇😀😊
Geez, my ms180 is mint compared to that one. Great videos, Erica. I watch all the time so I can maintain my equipment, and it's more fun when you're saw is in tip-top condition. Stay warm up there.. from WI 🇺🇸
It truly is satisfying seeing how saws/machines clean up, especially chains. Also, I love those little milk dud grime balls, get kinda sad when they breakup. Great videos, much love & support from California! 🙏🏽🧡
Hello, I am an industrial mechanic and I find your video very interesting and informative it is almost a mechanics course. Every time I repaired a chain saw I always checked the maximum speed and adjusted the high speed mixture as a consequence, I didn't see you do this adjustment is there something I didn't understand? Thank you for your videos!
Thanks for sharing another great video. In an upcoming video could you show the end of the piston stop that goes into the spark plug hole - wonder if the end is hard rubber glued or wrapped around the piece of metal or if it is all metal. I usually use a piece of starter rope but the piston stop looks like it would be quicker to set in place and remove than trying to force a rope into the top of the piston. The condition of the saw is a good example of where some of the operators who have no investment in the tool they are using and no incentive to do proper maintenance so the owners (in this case probably the taxpayers of a municipality) don't have to repair or replace it prematurely but on the other hand good for business. Will also offer you a suggestion for when you are picking dirt and crud out from a chainsaw and it lands on the work bench such as you did in this video. Rather than using a rag to wipe the crud into a garbage pail which tends to drive the crud into the work bench top and any cracks in it as you press down on the rag you might consider getting a dust pan and brush set such as the Rubbermaid FG6C0100 (just an example) where the brush clips into the pan handle and hang it under your work bench in easy reach. When the need arises you can then brush the dirt and crud into the dustpan and dump it into the garbage pail, give it a quick wipe if necessary and hang it back up. You could also set down a piece of cardboard or an old cookie baking sheet to place the saw on so the crud goes on top of it rather than the work bench - only suggestions for an easier way to keep your work bench area clean. Have a great day.
I’m pretty new to Stihl repair, and this channel has already helped me countless times. Hoping for some tips and tricks for my newest issue if anybody is feeling helpful. Customer returned a BR350 after 3days and the boss caved and gave them a new one, told me to refurb the old one. I found the piston, plug, and exhaust caked in carbon, but everything else is pristine - looks like they mixed in too much oil. New plug, cleaned spark arrestor and muffler. Idles great, but at WOT it hiccups a lil bit. Can I do anything to clean the carbon from the piston? Any other advice? Thanks so much for any advice y’all have for me.
I had 1 of those given to me, blown up. Looked brand new but no compression. Upon inspection it had a lot of dirt ingestion. Whether or not those had air filter problems I have no idea. It's filter was a twist lock type & it was filthy on the inside as well as the carb was. I wasn't about to rebuild it as the cost was more than half the replacement cost. Just a heads-up!
I like to keep mine cleaned up, but when I get busy, I set them aside and don't lol. I have 2 ultrasonic cleaners, on small for small parts carburetors etc and a bigger one for cowlings and stuff. What's your take on ultrasonic cleaners? Do you use them at all?
Fine him $15 for abuse! Nice to see a real air filter instead of worn out foam or flocking! How do you crack an air filter element? Fine just went up to $25!
Hi Erica. At the 9 minute mark in the video, you said that you were taking it out to the door to spray it off and get it all cleaned up. Are you spraying it with some type of de-greaser or just using air? I have seen on another channel de-greaser used but I wasn't really sure if that was an OK thing to use.
Is there supposed to be nylon chain guide bumpers above the bar studs on the inside of the chain cover? I know on the MS290 there are four of them to help guide the chain in the chain case. Could be a possible reason for chain derailment?
Ah, most chainsaws do have a bit of sawdust and oil on them, it goes with the territory. On the other end of the spectrum we have people who clean the chainsaw chain and make youtube videos about how they clean their chainsaw chain, taking the anal retention to new levels. Each to their own.
By the sprocket wear the poor little thing has done all most nothing ! I have a o24WB that is 40 years old in a couple of months , its the saw i use for agricultural hedging and fencing, if you have ever done that you know ! IT LOOKS LIKE NEW COMPEARED TO THAT THING .
Love your Stihl repair videos and can't get enough of them. Greetings from Germany ❤
Awesome video, great work. Thank you

Treasure that saw! What an amazing machine they were
The missing parts make me think it’s one of those “I tried to fix it, but made it worse” kind of things.

Nice repair Erica😊
Lots of replacements of parts that really needed replacements.😊
Yeah I want to clean my saw now as well.
We don;'t run our saws often but when we do we run them hard. I "try" to do a spa day at least once a year, with a thorough break down and cleaning with each saw. Great no nonsense video with a ton of info.
My Stihl saw came with a Stihl brush and cleaning fluid. makes it easy to clean after a days work.
I must admit, although I like the saws to be clean, all too often they are put away to cool an the day/task is done. And less cleaning occurs than was intended. Another great video Erica - very informative and excellent camera work.
Am I the only one who noticed getting the bird at the 12 minute mark. LOL Great videos keep them coming.
Thank you very much!
Find your channel truly awesome, interesting content and well explained.thanks for sharing.cheers

Cool tractor in the background when you were starting up that saw♥
Another good video. Thanks! John from MI
I sure wished I had a woman that liked to clean my old chain saws 😊
Geez, my ms180 is mint compared to that one. Great videos, Erica. I watch all the time so I can maintain my equipment, and it's more fun when you're saw is in tip-top condition. Stay warm up there.. from WI 🇺🇸
Clutch issues with this chain saw that is in the right hands to get it fixed up and running again great job on this one Erika

Thanks
Well done, your very good, a joy to watch
A guy dropped of a Chinesium Amazon Schroder backpack yesterday, what fun that's gonna be!
Fun times....lol
Repair video is nice and very informative but hoping someday you’ll show us a bit of your racing hobby action and machine(s) 👍
Another satisfying job done.
I just saw notiffication. I'm getting ready for my CF training. I'll watch later. Cheers!!
If I was the owner, I’d make a lovely little Frankensaw and zip tie stitch that case piece

Wow …what an improvement….could you use a compressed air hose to clean it

Hi Erica! I beta lotta saws got a good clean after this video! 🤣🤣..🇦🇺🍺🍺
11:55…..Message to those who criticize your videos.
Haha, you caught that
Perfect, thank you ma'am!!!
Well done as usual!💪💪🍺🍺🥰🥰🤘
Nice work 😅.
Another good one, keep em coming!😂 What kinda grease do you use on needle bearings? I've been using white lithium grease made by Lucas.
Thanks!

Can you do a video on how to do a deep clean on a chainsaw?
Fine him $15 for abuse! Nice to see a real air filter instead of worn out foam or flocking! How do you crack an air filter element? Fine just went up to $25!
Who knows lol
My guess: the same time the engine cover got cracked..
BTW lots and lots of smoke too..
I bet that sawdust with chainsaw bar oil would be a great fire starter
Hi Erica. At the 9 minute mark in the video, you said that you were taking it out to the door to spray it off and get it all cleaned up. Are you spraying it with some type of de-greaser or just using air? I have seen on another channel de-greaser used but I wasn't really sure if that was an OK thing to use.
Can I ask which Stihl piston stop you use?
Great video, does the bearing on the crankshaft where the clutch bearing goes ever get worn so bad that you have to trash the saw?
Why do you use that paper air filter? On my MS311 the filter is the yellow one that can be washed...
i think it's just the newer model (on my 261 the old one was black , the new one white, and both can be washed)
@@gerbenkalkenvan846 On my MS311 was the style of filter just like the one she removed
That's sad
Is there supposed to be nylon chain guide bumpers above the bar studs on the inside of the chain cover? I know on the MS290 there are four of them to help guide the chain in the chain case. Could be a possible reason for chain derailment?
I’m not familiar with the 271, but I should think there would be. Looks like a spot there where one would go.
Hi do you have the part # for the clutch and washer and the lock clip for that 271
That chain catcher is toast! OMG he should be in OPE prison for all the abuse! Just curious, which OEM Stihl tools DON'T you own lol!
I got a question are all chainsaws produced nowadays amtronic? Thank you again I like road saw videos lol
Not to steal from her, but the answer is NO. I notice a lot of Stihl pro saws are either or. Ex., MS261 is regular carb, MS261c is Mtronic.
Looks like the waiting line is getting smaller!
I filmed this video last week...so much has come in since. So much, that I don't know if they will all be able to make it to YT.
I wanted to see you install the missing oil pump. I missed it
We didn't hear you fuss too much about that one
Ah, most chainsaws do have a bit of sawdust and oil on them, it goes with the territory. On the other end of the spectrum we have people who clean the chainsaw chain and make youtube videos about how they clean their chainsaw chain, taking the anal retention to new levels. Each to their own.
Erica do they give you amount do the repairs?

if you have ever done that you know ! IT LOOKS LIKE NEW COMPEARED TO THAT THING .
If only chainsaws could suit owners for such bad treatment they get. There will be more happy chainsaws out there working in the woods. 😂😂😂😂😂
That's gross
Hey what are your pricing...
