  • macmost.com/e-... Using lots of spaces isn't the right way to line up items in Pages or any word processor. Instead, use tabs. Tabs allow you to have columns of information that perfectly line up on each line. You can also have a character or underline fill the space which can be useful to create professional-looking forms.

    if anyone is wondering why you've already spaced out your words but they still don't move according to tab on ruler, make sure that the space between the words, you click on your macbook keyboard "tab." NOT the spacebar! on macbook, it's next to the letter "q." then you can open the rulers from view, do what he says to do, and your text will align perfectly. just saying this to clear any confusions!

    Hi Gary, I have to prepare lots of agendas and minutes in my job and my bosses are sticklers for consistency. I've been trying to use styles to set things like bulleted and numbered lists with consistent leading spaces before the bullets and between the bullet and the text but failing miserably. I also need to have different first line indents (or outdents) in some paragraphs but again cannot get styles to work. I don't really want touse a table structure unless I have to. Is there a video to help with this stuff?

    The only feature no one seems to talk about is: how do you automatically expand a Text Box that has more text in it (with the plus "+" sign). Adobe Indesign has this feature (just doble click any of the "transform shape boxes" / handles) but I haven't found anyway of doing it on Pages. Is it possible?

    • @macmost

      Just drag the bottom down. There's no "automatic" way to do it.

    • @macmost

    Im having a trouble when im trying to use tabs with an auto- numbered list. On the second item when I try to put a tab, the list becomes a nested list.!!
    Eg: Q1. Answer the following: 1x5=5
    So when im placing the cursor before 1x5 and pressing the tab key or try to set the tab position, the entire line starts shifting.

    Thanks Gary for a fantastic resource on all things Mac! 😄🤙
    I've been using Macs since there _were_ Macs but I always learn something new from you.
    My wife and I have each bought a MacBook Pro M1 Pro, and got an update to Pages which prominently announces a new feature of "2-Page Spreads". I can not find this. There has been facing pages for a while but nothing that I would describe as 2-page spreads. Spreads being facing pages with objects such as images, textbooks etc that actually span the two pages.
    I've asked the people in the App Store but they know less than I do. Do you know what they are referring to?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 года назад

      Maybe it doesn't mean objects that span two pages, but just the ability to view both the left and right sides. I don't think this is new to Mac Pages, but new to iPad/iPhone Pages, maybe?

    • @peterbreis5407
      @peterbreis5407 2 года назад

      @@macmost It specifically has it in:
      *What's new in Pages*
      Find out about the new features in Pages 11.2 for Mac.
      *Improved book publishing*
      Publish books with 2-Page spreads, optimised images and more flexible versioning.
      "Facing pages" returned to Pages in version 7.0 after a long absence, since Apple trashed the IMHO better iWorks version in 2013. Eight years ago.
      btw When do you think we will get feature parity with Pages '09?

    Hey it would be great if you could do WORD vs PAGES , I really wanna use Pages but couldn't

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 года назад +1

      That's probably not realistic. There are hundreds of features of each. It would be an hours-long video that would take me days (or weeks) to make. More to the point, what is preventing you from using Pages instead of Word? Word is a high-end pro tool that costs $$ and definitely has things Pages doesn't. But Word is also harder to learn and those powerful features aren't needed for most uses. Is there a particular thing you found that Pages doesn't do that you need?
