I converted from Windows to Mac 10 months ago. I have been struggling to work with Pages all this time. I just learned so much that will be helpful. Thank You!
@@lynneturcotte5862 If you haven't already gotten the answer, it is in the *gear Icon* at the bottom, clicking on it should give you a pop-up menu with subtitles, PLAYBACK SPEED, and Quality. You can slow down OR speed up video incrementally. Very useful.
This is wonderful. Have used Adobe InDesign for 40+ years, but am helping a friend who is using Pages and I knew nothing about it. Going through Apple instructions was useless to me, I have to see where things are. This was absolutely perfect. THANK YOU!
Apple actually has never made ‘instructions’ for its pro apps. Rather, app Help is well designed to answer specific questions as the user runs into the inevitable dead ends. At first, I also felt frustrated by that approach, but now that I’ve run into scores of those dead ends, I feel the solutions that Help offers are a better way to go. The only thing Apple could do better is to make those solutions contextual popups within one’s own document. That approach, in fact, would be welcome in all complex apps as the solution right there IN the challenge really sticks better in my mind.
Your clarity of explaining is just gorgeous! Also I wonder why I never knew about so many things my Mac can do. Who reads a manual these days? We watch videos...
This is enormously useful, thank you! I'm in the process of moving away from MS Office, and am learning more about Apple software each day. I'd appreciate seeing something similar for Apple Numbers. Thank you again.
Fantastic whistle-stop tour! Yes, Gary, when you say at the end that you have a ton of video tutorials to help us get the most out of Pages, that's absolutely right. And I'd also like to mention your fabulous Course on Pages-as a former Word user, I learnt a massive amount from that course, which was totally worth doing and is still a valuable resource that I come back to whenever I need a refresher on any aspect of the app.
Pages is one of Apple’s great accomplishments. The moment the penny dropped for me was when I realized how many jobs of mine could be accomplished not only best but also easiest, in Pages. I have written and published technical manuals, made notes for everything from shopping to coding, posted illustrated comments for Twitter and working tutorials for my staff, and made build plans for every conceivable job. For the most part, its complex tools are easy to access, making all these jobs a relative breeze. Bringing outside elements into a Pages document is one of its standout features, so easy you’ll feel like you’re missing something. There is room for improvement in the area of cataloguing custom images and I wouldn’t mind a bit of macros capability.
I subscribe to a system for spreadsheets and word processing (guess which!)). But quite a while ago, I started using Pages regularly. The "other" will print envelopes, but it is so much easier with Pages (too bad I got a new Canon printer which refuses to print, for example, DL envelopes but that's not Pages' fault). It is much easier for me to use intuition with Pages than with the "other". Many thanks again.

In the doc, or on a printed page? For printing, just use a bullet character that is a box of some kind. For in the doc, Pages isn't meant for that. Use Notes or Reminders for that.
Thanks! Does anyone know why I can’t see the vertical ruler? It only shows de horizontal ruler so I don’t know when my images are on the center of the page, thanks!!

Hi I got question. I am using my Pages as a songbook, where I typed all my song lyrics, but I got problem, trying to make group of songs, for concert to change songs easily but looks like apple pages doesn’t have option where you can make groups. Is there any advice maybe I can use Apple shortcuts to program something like that.
Not sure what you mean by groups in this context. Do you mean each song is in its own file, but you want to view them together as one document? Not sure how to best do that. Just have to open each file as needed.
When I print a document from a website called Musicnotes which sells sheet music, my MacBook Pro chops off the title of the page. I have to use a work-around to get it all on one sheet of paper. I change the settings to 8 1/2 x 13 and print it on that size paper. Then I actually trim the paper on the top and make a copy. I get enough of it on a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper to make it look reasonably right. I shouldn't have to do this. I don't have this problem with any other documents.
