It is soooooo much easier to learn all these bells and whistles from your demos than plodding through a manual.👍 The quick green fox is exhausted now is going to take a break 🤣
Three minutes in and I’m already blown away by what I’ve learned!!!
This guy is the most informative on all of the internet re: the mac…. No relation here, and I’m not being paid… I just find every tutorial exactly what I want to know !
I agree. Gary is a Mac master and gifted teacher. Even when I know (or think I know) the topic, I always learn *at least* one new thing from his videos.
Always get great value from watching your videos, thank you.
Excellent as always, Gary. thanks for the valuable tips!
I did not know I could rearrange text in the thumbnails with the Section Break function. Great tip - Thanks!
I've just got into using Pages as a substitute for Notes. I was tired of occasional sync issues with Notes; the big problem being that there is no easy way to back up Notes, so when there's a sync problem, there's no way of accessing them. Pages saved to iCloud can easily be backed up and it's perfect for my needs: not as complicated as MS Word, more functions than Notes (more functions than any of the third party apps), easy to back up, etc. Using Shortcuts means it's possible to have a decent menu system which acts as a substitute for tags and Smart Folders in Notes. The point is: thank you Gary for all these excellent videos, they're really helping me understand the best ways for my use of Pages. Along with all your other Mac videos, of course!
Excellent tutorial. Comprehensive and very helpful. Many thanks!
Thanks very much, Gary, for this informative video! Always learn something new about Pages from your videos.
Great! I have wondered about the Template ... now I know. And watching this was a great way to cleanse my palate after watching the debate!
Thank you, Gary. Your instructions are second to none! I’ve written two novels and am writing a third with you making the process easier from a document management perspective. Pages is an elegant and powerful word processor for novelists.
Always makes me happy to see examples of "real work done on Mac"
thanks Gary, you just accelerate my writing
Great stuff, Gary! Thank you very much for all your fantastic videos. 🙏
Now I know I can get rid of all the writing Apps I've used so far: I can manage my content production via the native Apps. Thank you for your informative videos!
Brilliant video, so helpful, thank you Gary
Thanks, Gary. Another great ELI5 'how to'. I've used Pages for decades but I've never dug much past the act of simply typing in what I need. I feel like I'm 6 now. Except I'm almost 70. If I had a nickel for every minute I've wasted manually setting up my Pages documents... well, all I know is I'd have a ton of nickels. Thanks, again.
Awesome thanks brother!
Solid advice, Gary. I use Pages for literally everything except spreadsheets. It has come a long way through many updates, so much so that I don’t even do the start-with-notes dance anymore. Pages is a standout app from Apple, almost never closed on any of my devices.
One feature I would welcome would make all the settings changes - and there are many - needed to instantly toggle between white text on dark background and the opposite. The change is so arduous I can’t keep the perspective to choose.
Do you mean for the whole document? You can just create a template for that and use the template when you want it.
@@macmost What I mean is the ability to toggle a finished document between white background and black background, to decide which suits my mood. I am not talking about making that decision at the start. There is quite a number of settings that need changing to accomplish that on a completed document. Every style used on a black background needs changing. It’s quite a chore and I want instant results - back and forth.
@@artysanmobile If it is just for reading, I suppose you can quickly select all, change the color to white, then change the background color to black. If you aren't writing, just reading, maybe exporting as an ePub and reading it in the Books app would work. Never tried that.
@@macmost That’s WAY too much work. I want an A/B switch. And also, try it sometime. You’ll be surprised how many issues come up that are way beyond selection and swapping colors. It’s really a mess.
@@artysanmobile I'm still not clear on "why" you want to do this. But maybe some other app have a light/dark mode switch and fits your needs.
Fantatic as always … thanks Gary
This is a really helpful video. I've moved to Pages from Word - something I used for many years for business and personal documents. Pages isn't an intuitive for me as Word was but I'm getting there. What you've done here is pulled together a whole bunch of tips that will enable me to use Pages far better than I do now. Many thanks.
For no. 10, although the replace image function opens an open dialog box, you can drag a photo from the photo library into the open dialog box, and it will select the photo from within the photo library.
Excellent, as usual.
Accessibility is a game changer. Thanks Gary as ever a great tutorial.
Thanks for this video. Probably the most productivity-enhancing could be dictation. I really need to get in the habit of using it more regularly!
Honestly, as a loyal Mac user for nearly 20 years fumbling through photoshop and Indesign, finders many windows and settings, attempting Xcode.. and I didn’t even understand the basic concept of windows and keyboard shortcuts…and Mission Control!! you name it Gary made me passionate to learn my massive iMacs I have always insisted on but never actually utilised. just don’t even bother finding other channels now. Gary for Mac and Dan from ‘bring your own laptop’ for adobe. Life sorted. Gary you deserve millions of followers and hope your paid by apple to put these out because everyone else doesn’t even compare
Crazy how Styles can do wonders. But the best is the Accessibility version of Dictation. Thanks Gary.
Great video. Thank you.
Outstanding!
This is great Gary! I'd set some templates for special documents, but hadn't thought about making a basic template for everyday writing. Thanks so much. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Excellent, Gary! I knew and use every tip, except the ability to drag sections to new places. Thank you!
Fantastic. Thanks so much, Gary!
A very useful and informative video tutorial today! Thank you, Gary! 👏🏻❤️
Thanks again, Gary. Most amazing tips.
Very helpful. Thank you for sharing. ❤️❤️
Gary - really useful tips! Thanks!
Always great info, Gary. One thing I really loathe about Pages is Sharing and Collaborating Pages prompts to move the document to the Cloud.. Sometimes it opens the Cloud. Not always. But what is always does NOT do is actually move the document. I have also found that sometimes, not always. the shared document has a number appended to it. e.g. MyGreatBook becomes MyGreatBook 2, or 3 and so on. And Styles cannot be added to a shared document. I have reported this to Apple but no action has been taken.
Really great and very useful - many thanks!
Thanks for the many tips.
How nice. I didn't know about the dictation in the Accessibility settings as I rarely look in that area. I've always been a bit lacking in my Pages skills. Picked up a couple of excellent tools, today. Cool.
This is life changing info, thank you
Nice tips. I pretty much prefer using Pages over Word. I'll definitely take a look at Voice Control. Sounds so futuristic like "zoom and enhance" :)
Thanks❤❤❤❤
Nice Shirt! Thanks for this info. Very helpful.
Thanks!
Could you do one for numbers?
I've done many: ruclips.net/video/ggOG9U7EweQ/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/BXzcKmZ1uu0/видео.html for starters.
Oh, is there a setting to change punctuation commands in Voice? US punctuation, such as "period" and "parentheses" are not common usage in Australian English. We use full stop, and parentheses are {}, and () these are brackets.
You can't customize it, but perhaps it already does what you want if your language and region settings are different.
Thank you for this information. I do have a question regarding comments.
I’m in the process of writing a book using Pages that I frequently distribute (as I update it) by sending it as a PDF. Would Comments show in the PDF?
When you go to Export as a PDF (or Print) there is a checkbox for that very thing. Try it and see.
I have a question. When you change the font size at 1:09, the 'Update' sign highlighted in orange appears on the right side, but when I do the same, it does not appear. Why is that? Thank you!
Are you changing the whole paragraph?
No, I highlighted only part of the paragraph and then changed the font size just like you did... that's strange..🤔
Hi Gary, please forgive me for asking this here.
Is there any way I could use my iPad to monitor my iPhone 14 Pro Max while I use the iPhone as a video recorder?
I've searched and searched with no luck,
I would think they would connect, but I can't seem to do it without investing in a third-party app that is relatively expensive.
Thank you for any advice! :)
Apple just released this. support.apple.com/guide/final-cut-pro-ipad/set-up-and-use-live-multicam-dev619b965f2/ipados
@@macmost I'll check it out. Thank you!
Does it support Mongolian traditional?
Help! On my Mac, my Pages won’t update because it says this app was bought with a different Apple ID. (Years ago)
How can I fix that?? Thanks.
Delete it (from LaunchPad) and then get it again from the App Store.
Pages is awesome. Hate word.
