    Thanks for another great video, Gary! Even though I knew about copying text, I watched it anyway, because I was sure I would learn something new-which I did. I never even noticed the delete icon, and also learned a few new things about the screen capture. This is going to save me a bunch of time. Thanks again!

    Great video Gary.... always providing info that we need. I just wanted to mention that I was trying select text from the system report. Apple, for some reason, has never allowed that. (The text version in the system report is not in spreadsheet format.) After taking a screen shot of the section that I wanted I was still having trouble getting all the text to drop into the proper column format that makes it easy to read. So I changed the brightness and got rid of the grey section on every other line and BINGO... I was home free. As a sage RUclipsr says: "Hope this helps "....(someone.)

    I use this function, but not all the nuances. So many little bits I was missing. Thanks Gary, more great tips. I also didn't realise if I clicked on the floating thumbnail I could work from there, I was always waiting for it to save.

      It isn't an app. It is a feature found in other apps. Follow along with the tutorial here to see how to use it.

    I cannot get your directions to work. Is my iMac too old for this feature?
    the Control, command 5 works but it keeps defaulting to the mark up tool.

    How do you do it for a webpage that is bigger than just the screen?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  5 месяцев назад

      If it is a web page, you shouldn't need to screenshot it. Just select the text you want and Edit, Copy.

    Sometime when I'm watching RUclipss I will click on the thumbnail of the video and it selects the type. Is there a way to turn this feature on and off?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  6 месяцев назад

      It is in System Settings, General, Language & Region. But then you wont' be able to use it. Instead, make sure that when you click on a video thumbnail that it is a plain click. If you click and drag a little, then you may start a selection.

    Haha I usually just screenshot, open in the preview, select the text and translate.
    One of the games I'm playing involving people communicating in Russian. I have to do that just to understand what they are saying.
    I just wish Apple will finally allow us to right away airdrop the screenshot to other devices without digging through so many steps.

    ...but why delete the screenshot immediately after copying the text and why not delete it after the copied text is pasted elsewhere?
    2 - Does the text capture work with all languages or only with English alphabets?

    • @davep6603
      @davep6603 6 месяцев назад +2

      You could delete the screenshot after you paste the copied text somewhere, which is what I have been doing. In fact, I never even noticed the trash icon.
      I guess it depends on your work flow. I take a lot of sceeen shots and frequently need to copy text. So in my case, deleting the screenshot immediately after will save me a lot of cleanup after. Now that I know about the trash button, I will start doing more deleted immediately.
      This is what is great about Gary’s videos. Even though I knew about copying text, I watched it anyway because I almost always learn something new.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  6 месяцев назад +1

      Sure, you can do that if you find that works better for you. It would work with all languages that Live Text supports. See www.apple.com/macos/feature-availability/#live-text
