This song is the defining moment of me entering adulthood. I remember being introduced to the Postal Service when I turned 18, and this song was on a custom mix that my best friend burned for me as a farewell gift when I moved far away from him. It was the song that stuck with me the longest and looking back I define my life as before I heard this song and after I heard this song. And I love every emotion that hearing it brings rushing back
Was I your best friend?
Fantastic comment! Thanks for sharing that! I just found out about this song, as i was reading about The Postal Service at 5:30am, because i woke up and couldn’t go back to sleep. Lol. The Postal Service’s Give Up was that point for me in 2003 at 17.
Beautifuly said.
This is an interesting way to put it. There are few bands that I can say completely changed me. And Jimmy tamborello is 100% one of those artists.
Interesting enough this artists had always been my favorite but after a very bad an extreme dmt trip where I stupidly put dntel on in the background, it put a horrible taste in my mouth and I couldn’t enjoy the music anymore. That was until over a decade later this week when I randomly heard it and had that emotional chill rush over my body. I could enjoy it again. Literally one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Being able to enjoy something I love so much again.
Loovehly
I woke up with this song randomly stuck in my head this morning and then the NYT served me an article saying the Postal Service record was twenty years old this year. Still stands up. Thank you Ben and Jimmy
This song sounded like nothing else when it came out. I think it's more influential than people give it credit for.
“Life is Full of Possibilities” was such a watershed album for me, and every song still holds up incredibly well. Nobody has ever written a staticky banger as beautiful as “Dream”.
this is the best intro of all time literally
this and The Pink by Medicine
best outro too
That's a very direct comment! I disagree, but I love that you feel that way. It is great though!
Haha good one
Right up there with October Rust
Country fried potatoes and eggs and jam and toast and hillbillies and goat rocks and grassy gnolls and big troels foelman
The birth of the Postal Service :)
infuckingdeeed
I think it's still their best track, among many excellent tracks.
This song was in the deep depths of my memory and today I randomly remembered it out of nowhere.
Nina Ross lol same
I love when that happens
Nina Ross me af right now
It happens :)
Incidentally, that's what happened to me, too - five years later 🤣🙏
I have such a painful memory attached to this song, but I love it so much. 14 years later and I can remember so clearly.
would you please share it with us, fellow fans of this song?
Gibbard + Trombello = magic.
It hurts to think of all the work they should still be doing.
They were way ahead of their time, and still are.
Don't think that's his name
Ya, really wish they did more than Give Up and the few singles. They had such potential and were really ahead of the sound for the time.
I really miss them.
DENTL is one guy. Also, He is one half of The Postal Service so check them out.
It's TAMBORELLO.
November 2016, 16 years old, 10th grade, this song was unbelievable.
I've known this song since I was a kid and I always thought it sounded particular. Many years later I've become very attached and interested in the IDM music genre and artists, and one thing lead to another, in 1998 Dntel was making music that sounded a lot more like IDM, and it's pretty cool to see how that carried over to his future endeavors and his style of music. A track from my childhood, and now it's come back around. Also, funny that the amount of comments right now is my favourite number! Life is strange.
The best Postal Service song is not even a Postal Service song.
After so much searching, I found this beautiful track. :)
Wow this was my jam in high school.... now I'm 26
26. DNTEL, "(This is) The Dream of Evan and Chan"

I love the low bass line that goes along with song
Totally makes the song, especially that low note at the end of the bass line.
Now that’s all I can hear lol
I.........I can't believe I heard this live tonight..... thank you so, SO much for playing Pomona!!
I wish I could like this more than once.
thanks for uploading this, great tune
Such creativity!
still the best song of the decade
This is an incredible tune.
🧡 always loved this song.
A masterpiece. Incredible art 🥹
This is the dream of Darren and Natalie
Still wonderful
Too good.
This sounds like a Postal Service song, Tamborello's beats and Ben Gibbard's voice compliment each other like pancakes and syrup.
LMAO
😂😂😂😂
HAHAHAHAHA
Pancakes 🥞
You might call this... The Proto-Postal Service!
My college experience.
Best Kind of Earrape
It was familiar to me
Ben, can you please sing me to sleep every night, doesn't matter what it is just sing lol. I missed this song...
I LOVE CREATIVE MUSE-I.Q! :)
Everything started here. What? The Postal Service. In fact, this allowed me to discover Ben and Death Cab for Cutie. This song is WON DER FUL.
I couldve sworn this was death cab
Las vegas right ?
@mahilley No. Dntel is the guy that worked with Ben Gibbard (Death Cab guy) on the Postal Service Album, and this is Ben singing on this song, but they are different acts. Same singer, though.
I think I've been responsible for at least 200 of these views... within the past two days...
Listen to 4 by Aphex Twin and then this song. It all makes sense :)
your perception is so surface level
House hold choke hold
yr eyelashes tickle my neck with every nervous blink
Wow it does?!? O_0
DeanMarulandaScott it does what?
There's a movie about marijuana dudes starring an east indian man and a chinese man. This song is titled like the movie.
Can you please release this on 7" to coincide with the 10th Anniversary 'Give Up' release. Come on...you know you want to....its that or a 'Live on KEXP' 10". We await your offer.
so they were dreaming of an ambulance and not a video? okey
Your eyelashes tickle my neck.
They sound like Death Cab... is that Death Cab?
Indeed! Ben Gibbard sang this song along with Give Up by The Postal Service.
How old are you!? Sigh...
