I always think of someone who was my best friend growing up, but the final 10 years of our relationship was toxic. He was the type of person to never follow, but always lead. In high school he was cool, but as an adult he became insecure. Primarily insecure with me being gifted in physics and math; something I discovered after him and the rest of my friends got into drugs and went to rehab. Turns out he is a narcissist, and functions best when people around him are at their worst. He'd rather sabotage others, including his best friend, than be happy for them and practice some humility. Took many years settling with him, then with other, less captivating friends before rediscovering myself. I've put a lot of meaning in these lyrics, and do think of this person when I hear this song. It hurts not being seen as a fully fledged human being by someone supposedly close to you. He only sees others as a subset of himself and doesn't like it when that ideology is challenged. It's a wonder to me why I stuck around so long, but it's a byproduct of being under the influence. Just in a different sense.

this album and louder now have some real gems imo.. you know the story with brand new's 77x7 too right?? Was always awesome to me to see them put their emotions on the main stage... two great bands for sure! "The [song] was written about a falling out between best friends. Lead singer Jesse Lacey had been best friends with then Taking Back Sunday guitarist/singer John Nolan (who has left the band) since grade school. Lacey's girlfriend at the time cheated on him with Nolan. John called Jesse, and the last words that Jesse spoke to him were, "You're as subtle as a brick on the small of my back so lets end this call and end this conversation" and hung up. That was the last time they spoke and then years later Brand New added it as lyrics to their song "Seventy Times 7" which is about what happened and his feelings toward Nolan. Taking Back Sunday then came out with the song "There's No 'I' In Team," which expresses John's side of the story. In "There's No 'I' In Team," he says, "What I can't regret, can't you just forget it?" which shows how he wants to get past was happened between them."
Although in the context of the song, it's like, "I've got a bad feeling--we're going to end up sleeping together", whereas I get the sense yours was more of the doom-laden variety...which turned out to be more accurate, in the scheme of things

I was 15 when I first heard this song. I was a sophomore in high school. I had a class with a guy I was kinda friends with in middle school and we became best friends and he introduced me to Taking Back Sunday, this was the first song he played for me. We stayed best friends through sophomore and junior year, some high school drama shit happened and we stopped being best friends senior year, we remained kinda friends after high school and through our 20s and eventually lost touch. This song always reminds me of him and those teen years when your friends are so important to you and how as you get older, they fade in and out of your life.
love this song to death. just graduated high school 6/3/20 and this song makes me feel like i'm a kid in a high school movie in 2004 and the credits are about to roll

really miss the guys who left after this album, this album and' tell all your friends' were so good, i liked 'louder now' and 'new again' to but the first 2 are my faves
The problem is there was a lull in rock music at the time. So it's easy to underrate this album because it was popular. Having dug up all the deep cuts from the era and with a broader context this is a historically great album.
Their first two albums are absolutely monumental alternative rock albums for the early 2000s. They defined the genre at the time and helped usher in a generation of awesome music. TBS and Brand New are two of my favorite bands
I remember i heard this song while i was shopping with a friend at a mall in Abercrombie & Fitch, i think i was in high school, sophomore year. we hang out, eating in, going to Spencer's, Hot Topic, Zen Garden, checking out some of my favorite metal band shirts, anime and Kpop stuff. It sure brings me back memories, how nostalgic. 2012 - present.
First song I ever heard by TBS and heard it on the radio. I then went out and bought the album, and eventually bought 2 more. It was a lot at the time for High School me
I love this song and band, been listening to them for 10+ years, but I wish they'd remaster this album. Playing this next to Senses Fail - Let it Enfold You, which came out the same year, Senses Fail's release sounds miles ahead of this in production.
Well the first album, in particular, was born of 5 dudes in a Long Island basement hammering out their influences with the simultaneous sloppiness + energy that comes from not fully knowing how to play your instruments...then placed on top of that, you had Adam and John, very very close for that brief moment in time, essentially opening up their literal diaries to each other, taking ideas, passages, words, fragments from them, and putting them together to create lyrics composed of their most personal fears/desires/dreams. Almost every element of that is entirely unrecreatable, unfortunately

@@imgonnaputsomedirtinyourey8421 Nah I’m still pretty unhappy. I’m less happy now than I was a year ago when I wrote this comment.
@@TheWholeEntireCake sorry to hear that 😞. Don't worry. You are a car that ran out of gas on the highway but keep walking you are almost at the gas station.
id lose my voice AND my soul! keen show!
@@imgonnaputsomedirtinyourey8421 still chasing it lol
This is definitely one of the HS songs you blast with the windows down with infinity in the air!
Damn
I became a fan because of this song. My first TBS song.
Taking back Sunday would be the best alarm clock to start our day
love this song to death. just graduated high school 6/3/20 and this song makes me feel like i'm a kid in a high school movie in 2004 and the credits are about to roll
Born in the wrong decade
to hell with you and all your friends :)
Graduated 2021 and I agree😂😂
Awesome that the younger generation is still finding this music and resonating with it
My favorite TBS song. You guys are incredible and my youth will forever be marked by great music.
here I am, 2023, and still listening to this kind of music. And still love it.
I love this song by Taking Back Sunday!! I listen to it every day on my phone.
Going to a concert with your ex cuz you already bought the tickets. Such a good song
Its been over a decade ive been under your bands influence, still i never had a bad feeling about it.
😊
2020 and no matter what changes in my life I will ALWAYS come back to taking back Sunday
Completely forgot about this song. So glad I stumbled upon it again. Memories came flooding back
This was the first Taking Back Sunday song I heard and after I heard it, I knew that I would be obsessed with this band. Still remains my favorite Taking Back Sunday song
Same. Late night as a pre-teen watching MTV. Grew up on hip hop and R&B but this was a very cool song the first time I heard it
Same and I’m now 43 yrs old
I just left this same comment lol❤
Every Sunday was a holiday for a band that never happen before and It won’t happen again so imagine that.
really miss the guys who left after this album, this album and' tell all your friends' were so good, i liked 'louder now' and 'new again' to but the first 2 are my faves
Prolly the best outro ever!!!!!!!!
LOVE 💗💗🤩 Old time favorite
Still love this song in 2020!!
Every year ever
Yup
The problem is there was a lull in rock music at the time. So it's easy to underrate this album because it was popular. Having dug up all the deep cuts from the era and with a broader context this is a historically great album.
Their first two albums are absolutely monumental alternative rock albums for the early 2000s. They defined the genre at the time and helped usher in a generation of awesome music.
TBS and Brand New are two of my favorite bands
Truly one of my favorite bands of all time. Couldnt imagine 20 years ago that I'd still love them so much.
Still one of my favorite songs.
Take me back to taking back sunday 🥺😭
Listening in my Jeep Wrangler on the way to the beach. 2021. 🖤
I lovee Taking Back Sunday
This song will always have a special place reserved in my essence, and I absolutely LOVE the artwork/animation; very appropriate.
I thought it through and my worst brings out the best in you
Ah freshmen year of high school in the early 2000's ... Everyone updating their Myspace pages... Simpler times... Always will love TBS
It was a lot at the time for High School me
I miss those days, back when popular radio actually played good rock music, you'd hear a great new song and go buy the CD, those were the days.
Music will never be the same
this song reminds me of the local college radio station that played alot of this type of music back in the early 2000s, good times
Took my kids to their show. Boston City Hall show about 2002. About 10000 college kids showed up, mosh pit, my kids loved it. They were 6 and 8.
Joe Scola what a cool dad
This is such a great song
Who's here revisiting this gem in 2022?
....my worst brings out the best in you... great imagery
I used to listen to this everyday on repeat 😌
I just bought a band shirt. it´s about time. I really like them since 20 years or longer!

Mid 2022. And no, what I feel now and what I felt then wasn't a phase. Some things never change.

Twenty years strong tbs will always be played.
Tantos recuerdos de la adolescencia con esta banda, lo mejor!!
I have a good feeling about this
Why do I like this band so much😬😨
Cause i got it bad ...i got it baaaaaaddddddd !!!!!!
I'm an old lady and I like this tune
I love this song and band, been listening to them for 10+ years, but I wish they'd remaster this album. Playing this next to Senses Fail - Let it Enfold You, which came out the same year, Senses Fail's release sounds miles ahead of this in production.
2:17 - ❤️
Instant time capsule without being old
Fuckin blasting energy! Let's go! Wakes me up evertime
I'm looking up all the songs I used to listen to at like 11.
I thought of you, when my worst brings out the best in you...!!!
Never understood why they could never capture the sound/style of the first 2 albums anymore......
Well im pretty sure adam lost his voice and cant scream like he used too so thats why its all softer now.
Louder now us absolutely fantastic idk wtf you're talking about
Well the first album, in particular, was born of 5 dudes in a Long Island basement hammering out their influences with the simultaneous sloppiness + energy that comes from not fully knowing how to play your instruments...then placed on top of that, you had Adam and John, very very close for that brief moment in time, essentially opening up their literal diaries to each other, taking ideas, passages, words, fragments from them, and putting them together to create lyrics composed of their most personal fears/desires/dreams. Almost every element of that is entirely unrecreatable, unfortunately
2024 and I am still here!!
I'm non ironically love taking back Sunday
It's okay people we're all getting old together
Still under the influence
Omg the memories
I got a feeling about this
Yoooo! Soo many memories
2022?😗😏
Heller
2020 still jams..
Fred era TBS is the best, best synergy with Adam, the No Skips Era
how does this not have a mill... LOL
