This is why Zealand is my favorite FM guy, he actually puts some thought into very important aspects of the game like tactics, scouting, morale and doesn't just treat it as a clicker game. Even though I don't agree with some of his decisions (mainly on tactics), I respect that a lot.
I think it boils down to being aware of what's working and what's not and to create correlations between the numbers and stats on screen with results. That's it.
I think this might be the single best video I have ever watched on fm. Incredibly complicated and diverse sections of the game broken down simply. Bravo.

Holy mackerel, I need to check this out... Every month I praise every player training above a 7.80 or so, it can get monotonous. This could be a very welcome quality of life change. I still wish you could highlight multiple players and interact with them all at the same time. It would give me outrageously disproportionate joy to be able to highlight 15 players, and praise them all for training well with a couple of clicks. Maybe one day. Maybe one day...
I always seem to find a lot of joy playing a big, strong, good header of the ball alongside a very quick forward. It's a classic but I've had more joy with that than a pure pace strike force. That's my experience and likely because of how I set up, interesting to see how many people find joy with just pace up front.
Really good video here, fully agree about the progression timeline. Always find it odd when people ask if they should get players for a specific tactic whilst not having great players already. FM is quite easy if you just take your time and continue to make sound decisions.
Yea, i finally also created some good tactic which keeps the great balance between offensive and defensive. It's asymetrical 4-1-3-2 with wide midfielders on support or attack and inverted wings backs using roaming playmaker in middle on right side as defensive midfielder and central midfielder on attack, and the right back - inverted wing back on defensive, and on left side inverted wing back on support. The other roles don't actually matter too much.
I did a save as Southampton (trying to keep them in the league being realistic selling players and negotiating if a bigger team came in) in the first season my main goal was to stay up, and I played the same 442 diamond, with Che Adams playing as an AF/DLF, I went after Julian Alvarez as a striker who could be reliable finishing now as AF, and looking for good young players to develop, but due to the lack of money, other than trying to sell of the many many many wingers they have I ended up not signing many other players as I felt most of the team matched what I was trying to do (JWP on BBM, Armstrong as AP, Livramento as a WB, Walker Peters stepping in when 1 of the fullbacks got tired) I loaned some young players to get a feel for them but didn’t really sign them, I got Anel because he’s lanky and scored headers The next year due to success in cup runs, a solid PL finish, and cashing in on some of the options you have (VVD sell on, Mane sell on etc) I had a fair bit of money to spend, I noticed Barca rejected Demir, so I managed to get him for around 7/8 million, on solid wages in year 2 to play that AP role I also got Lucca, Omar Richards (baller for 1.5mil) Romo (DM - DLP), Djimisti for cheap, and another young loan for a Mezzala In the end mixed with Ward Prowses set piece ability, having Lucca, Djimisti and Anel we scored headers and got europe
Thanks for the content. I’ve recently just got fm22( I had lots of study so I didn’t buy it until now) I noticed when you start a new game you can’t get rid of all coaches and staff you don’t want, this used to be an option years ago and was handy so you could change everything at the beginning, now they want compensation for termination , suppose it makes sense in real world 😂
praising players match performances and training after a prolonged period of time becomes less effective on morale I think. give them a boost every now and then but not all the time.
I found one of the best things was have someone on the coaching staff with a very high morale attribute and take there advise. Sometimes the players don't react well, but you get good results (if you sneak a lucky win against a team, that you should beat by 4 or 5. He may tell you not to give a post game team talk. The players are expecting you to blow smoke up their ass and if you don't, they may react badly. But they will be more motivated for the next game).
Some homies have played this game everyday for ten years. Will they learn anything new from this video? Probably not. Will they take time out of their day to play this game? Most definitely yes.

I've never played with attribute masking due to the firm logic that if I were an actual football manager I would immediately be loading up FM to scout players anyway. Still need to scout for those hidden attributes, but attribute masking just makes lower league management an absolute slog.
Yep, I started to scout for the hiddens for the same reason due to Redru. Redru on paper with the masking off was an ideal wingback when healthy. The problem is he was almost never healthy and thus the 3K a week was like an albatross of a contract.
@Heberth R. You're probably right, though that's more down to my limited leadership skills and no experience above Scottish sunday leage football than anything. And you know there are multiple articles on scouts using FM as a recruitment tool, right? It's not that wild a concept
@@callummoore6440 They use the FM database for statistiscs, not for qualitative judgements about players. If you are the sporting director of a small English team and get an email from a Norwegian agent claiming that they have a great talent on the roster, you can check them and see for yourself what level he's playing at. Abel Stensrud, 20, played 25 matches and scored 22 goals for Skeid, a team that promoted from 2nd to 1st division (3rd->2nd tier) in Norway. That's something FM can give you, in English, faster than almost any other tool. You can also see that this was his first season in the senior team, having played for the reserves the year prior. What attributes he's got is largely irrelevant. Maybe you look at his height, but that's not always accurate in fm, and his weight certainly isn't. Occasionally, the attribute spread can give you some clues as to what kind of player he is, but not how good he is. This info is valuable to someone doing player logistics at real clubs. But it is initial info, not something that will make someone sign the player. It can be the basis for deciding that a scout should watch him, but that's all.
I always play with attribute masking on, however, I get a real sense that the computer managed teams don't or that they have an ability that lets them scout hundreds of players and decide which are the best in a day. Good tips. Especially at the end. I'm finding that playing time is really a big issue in this version of FM Compared with previous versions where you could really rotate the squad a lot more without unhappiness creeping in. I've had to sell a few good players in FM22 due to Playing Time.

If I'm not winning first and second balls in game, I just instruct 'work ball into box'! I've won titles with it! Simple!
I made a 5wcb formation because I wanted to try the new positions in November when the game came out and I felt personally attacked when Z pulled out that timeline of save progression because I’m in 2030 and haven’t changed the tactic by more than 20% and probably still won’t because for whatever reason I am consistently making it too the knockout stages of champions league and just beat Man City to get to the quarters
I did the same, and I just changed my tactic in the start of the third season. The change was going form SS to AP in the 10 position, changing one DLF to AF and turning off "dribble less". My initial goal was to replicate a 5-2-1-2 my local team plays, which is a very pass heavy and possession oriented team with a distinct AF, SS and DLF trio up top. Double AF looks better and I had an issue with my wing backs getting atrocious ratings (I believe this is because they had low dribbles per 90, since they were told ot pass the ball rather than run with it). The SS only got good ratings when they scored and wasn't as big part of the build up play as I hoped. Now I stumbled across a great AP, that can't shoot, and made the change
hey does anyone know in what vid zealand explained how the american youth system works so that you can sign their players for free? i remember seeing it but forgot what vid it was
couldn’t tell you the video but in MLS we have a draft for university players to go pro and all the draft players load in on amateur contracts where you can sign them free in the fall (before draft in january)…they’re about 125 potential usually and 18-22 so can be good players in bad leagues
tbh I wish I had friends who play FM. most of them play fifa which is well you know. some others play wwe and NBA games which I can respect cause they just like those sports better. if wrestling is a sport
So.. vaguely on point.. is there a way of looking up the promises you made to the parent club for players on loan? That is, instead of just waiting for them to complain?
my only problem with fm is being able to stay in leagues despite your team not being good. like my team is sky bet league 2 quality in the championship I should have like -50% playing ability or something so I get relegated.
What's the link for the discord. I'm doing an online save and no matter what I do I've never been able to win Premier league or domestic Cup, just europa conference league, could do with some inspiration
I found it hard to start with to work out from the stats and highlights if my team played well or not. Easier now with xg, data centre and post match reviews. Still feels like so much guess work and trial and error (lots of error).
Hi Zealand, not sure if u will see this but I’m doing a levekusen save and I’m running the 4231 with a BWM next to a MEZ as the two behind the front 4, not sure if the MEZ will get in the game as much as I want but I want that midfielder to go forward more and be more of an attacking threat, is this a good role to achieve that goal? And also when playing tougher teams should I change this MEZ to something else
So, basically 1st year is kind of YOLO it right? I mean, I'm in Penafiel 2nd league in Portugal (FM20 20.4.4 or something) and I'm kind struggling finding decent players...
don't downplay the zeeland 4-3-1-2 (4-1-3-2 DM def). this tactic with 1, or even better, 2 carrielos is groundbreaking to say the least!! Yes I've used it and damn it works well!
I have a player the playing time is broken. He is playing almost every game even though they have agreed squad player and on different pages it says he is unhappy due to playing time being surplus but on his info page he says he loves the club and he is happy with his playing time. 🤯 massive headache.
0:29 1. I just become "Unsackable". 2. I don't really care about comparing to them. 3. NZ can't conceivably switch to the Asian Conference like Australia did anyway, so there are some constraints, there. But how should I pick players as a National manager? I can't buy players, and I'm stuck in my very limited pool of players. I can't build around Chris Wood and Winston Reid for more than 4 years.
So I've rebuilt Barca and I'm gonna say it... Stick to players from nations that play in a similar style to your club... Kessie was awful for me whilst Tonali is a beast (Italians + short passing works. Even though both players were 4*) Never underestimate Composure on the strikers too, I've got a wonderkid to 26 goals in 20apps with 13 finishing but 19 comp
14:36 and here is why Man Utd suck so badly this season. When Ralf Rangnick and the best player in the world Cristiano Ronaldo can't save you, you know morale is rock bottom.
I dont think I'll ever understand tactics I play against a stronger team, I won, I don't know why I play against a weaker team, I lose, still don't know why
You absolutely should not praise everyone's training every week. Do it too often and it'll have the opposite effect and annoy the players. Every two weeks at most seems to be a sweet spot.
@@jonssonftw the top 3 in the training email every week is usually fine because they're probably not the same players but every player every week has only ever caused problems for me
True, but it's always the 3 or 4 players that complain about it, the rest seems to be fine with doing it each week, and the general benefit outweighs the two or three unhappy faces imo at least
I think the "you praise me too much" response has largely gone with the recent updates to FM22. Most players are happy to be praised repeatedly even down to 7.5 or so.
Football manager 22 is a game that punishes lazy people. Lost a match you should have won? And you feel like rushing the game to play a weak team just to get that W? Do you have Xbox version at all?
QQ: how often should you change your tactic. Don't want opponents to get to familiar but don't want to be chopping and changing???
TLDW:
Win
This seems insanely helpful
I have been wiating for this. SIUUUUUUUU
3/4 isn't too bad for me. I can't be bothered to change my scouting methods though, I still get plenty of good players through agents and scouts
Awww, a video just for me, thank you
So.. vaguely on point.. is there a way of looking up the promises you made to the parent club for players on loan? That is, instead of just waiting for them to complain?
my only problem with fm is being able to stay in leagues despite your team not being good. like my team is sky bet league 2 quality in the championship I should have like -50% playing ability or something so I get relegated.
No?
Amazing video
Video Idea: Make a tournament with the best clubs and best countries
In unit washer dryer. Fancy
What is a Mandunited? Never heard of it. How does it sue?
Keep getting sacked for no reason, cannot believe. Hopefully you help me akhalam!
does anyone know how i can buy fm for cheaper i have it on xbox but feel like moving laptop
I put playing time happiness on my default tactics view. The second someone is concerned they get games until its back to satisfied
I have a player the playing time is broken. He is playing almost every game even though they have agreed squad player and on different pages it says he is unhappy due to playing time being surplus but on his info page he says he loves the club and he is happy with his playing time. 🤯 massive headache.
15:10 Okay Cortana
I can't build around Chris Wood and Winston Reid for more than 4 years.
only way i can think of is managing a team in nz and building up your facilities and recruiting to build the nation
@@timopeters995 I'm on Mobile, it's very restrictive. I already have less roles to try.
@@BrockMak well maybe its just not possible then 🤷♂️
Loans?
me who hasn't even got the game:
interesting
I just spectate the chaos
i thought i knew football, now i have an american teaching me sh*t about it! my world is upside down. jk love your videos man
So I've rebuilt Barca and I'm gonna say it... Stick to players from nations that play in a similar style to your club... Kessie was awful for me whilst Tonali is a beast (Italians + short passing works. Even though both players were 4*)
Never underestimate Composure on the strikers too, I've got a wonderkid to 26 goals in 20apps with 13 finishing but 19 comp
Good point! Best game I ever had was with Barca and at least 90% of the players were Spanish
@@michaeldr6070 all the Barca B team come through for you and then nust poach all the other youths?
14:36 and here is why Man Utd suck so badly this season. When Ralf Rangnick and the best player in the world Cristiano Ronaldo can't save you, you know morale is rock bottom.
Yes
No
@@SethGD Maybe
I don't know
@@dave21560 can you repeat the question
I at burger
I dont think I'll ever understand tactics
I play against a stronger team, I won, I don't know why
I play against a weaker team, I lose, still don't know why
I wanna see how fast you can win all 5 Champions Leagues in the game
You absolutely should not praise everyone's training every week. Do it too often and it'll have the opposite effect and annoy the players. Every two weeks at most seems to be a sweet spot.
Z been doing this for a while now without any problems whatsoever
@@jonssonftw the top 3 in the training email every week is usually fine because they're probably not the same players but every player every week has only ever caused problems for me
@@charles14273 Z been doing this for a while now without any problems whatsoever
He speaks alot of sense but he needs some humble pie kevie 7 time lollujo is better at FM
I thought it was the normal thing having attribute masking on, now it seems like it's kind of cheating to have it off
Well considering as soon as you bring a player in on trial you can see their attributes straight away - that's hardly realistic
I quit this game every game is 3-0 or more
football manager is dark souls of football games.just git gud
Nah, Dark Souls is theFootball Manager of action/rpg's. FM is the older title. :-P
I don't have any friends that play fm :(
Joe Croston is a snake? Is that like a spoiler because I watch the live channel and he didn't do anything Durantlike?
He wanted to leave to a better division
@@ToastedHamburgerBun That seems reasonable to me. I thought he did something like Javi did a few transfer windows ago.
Use the Editor. its how people get good at football manger. they cheat
Answer: Play the Xbox version
...what?
Football manager 22 is a game that punishes lazy people. Lost a match you should have won? And you feel like rushing the game to play a weak team just to get that W? It's time to just save your game then quit. Play it tomorrow with your head cooled down. Once the game upsets you, it's a snowball and it's over lol
i already get made fun of by my friends for playing fm so....
Well they’re uncultured
It’s easy, buy better players and play better tactics.
